Hotel Botánico - Puerto de la Cruz

EXCELLENT HOTEL, BEST IN TENERIFE NORTH.

This is a truly 5 star hotel. Facilities, service, friendliness, décor, staff and breakfast were all excellent at a very reasonable price. The area is very pretty and clean but a bit too quiet and perhaps more suitable for the older clients and located in the cloudy part of the island which can be annoying.

This hotel is supposed to be 5* but is not offering a 5* service. We arrived at 11pm from a Madrid flight and there were no porters! When we left several times at 5am to go to other islands there were no porters and no functioning front desk - we had to check out the night before. The room service menu from 10.30pm had 5 items. It was almost impossible to get room service breakfast early and one of the receptionists said we could and another said we could not. Given the location of the hotel away from the centre of Puerto de la Cruz it is apparent that they have put in the fancy spa to give it an edge over other hotels. The rooms are quite nice although the small old television is stuck into the wardrobe wall and does not swivel so it is impossible to see when in bed! We were at the buffet breakfast once and certainly that is excellent but starts too late if you want to do anything else on the island. Before we went we contacted the hotel direct find out the price of a junior suite and to see if they had any deals on (as their web site says they do) and they did not even bother to reply. All in all it is really a fairly typical 4* 'resort hotel' with limited services, although most of the staff (with a couple of notable exceptions) are very pleasant. Having said that we would probably return since there is very little that is remotely nice in this part of Tenerife and if you are driving it is easy to get to the motorway/airport

A nice hotel, although rooms quite small and fairly basic for a 5 star hotel. Food was quite good, bar prices high (two to three times what you pay for a drink at a bar in town). Cliental a mixture of Spanish, German and English, fairly elderly and affluent. This is not a "fun" hotel, atmosphere pretty stuffy. The staff were very helpful, gave us some great restaruant recomendations.
