We stayed in Italy for 2 weeks. Only stayed 1 night at Hotel Margherita (but wish we could have stayed longer) and it was cleaner than 4 other places we stayed. The room was spotless. A small hotel with great views and a fantastic location. Away from the hustle & bustle of Positano, it is quiet. You can take a bus to Positano for 1.10 Euro and the bus stops on the small street directly in front of Hotel Margherita and drops you off at the main Piazza in Positano. It took about 15-20 minutes on the bus from Praiano to Positano. Parking & driving was crazy in Positano and there was no way we would have gone back if we couldn't take a bus. My son, my husband and myself stayed in Room #2 with a balcony & ocean view (also, hand-painted tile on the floor and in the bath, and vaulted cathedral style ceiling). Paying a little extra for the balcony & view was worth it. Gorgeous ocean view - it was just right there, as far as you could see in both directions. Also, the customer service here was very good. They personally delivered two pages of information about the area to our room. Gave us a bus schedule, sold us bus tickets and made sure we were standing at the bus stop - it's a one way street, so, be to the bus stop early in case the bus driver is early, if there is any traffic he can't wait. We ate lunch in their small restaurant and had sandwiches (5 Euro each). My son liked the chicken sandwich that he thought had french fries on the side, but the french fries came on the sandwich and that's the way he ate it. He thought that was fun. The menu for dinner looked good, but we were in Positano that evening. We swam in their small pool - the deck area would be great during the day, it overlooks the ocean. You are high up on the hill above the ocean, but the view is gorgeous. Their free breakfast included scrambled eggs, croissants, rolls & jam, juices, coffee, fruit, yogurt, cold cereal and it is served in the front lobby restaurant area. This was one of the be

The Hotel Margherita has a very welcoming atmosphere and provided a very comfortable and enjoyable base for our 5 days on the Amalfi Coast. The views from the room balcony and swimming pool are spectacular and add to the overall quality of the hotel facilities. Our room was large with good storage capacity and the bathroom was large, clean and modern. Breakfasts were excellent with plenty to choose from, and gluten-free bread was provided on request for my wife. The hotel also has a very good restaurant with a good range of meals, including a number of gluten-free options. The one downside for the Margherita is that it is up a fairly long hill from the main road through Praiano, and the walk at the end of the day on the Amalfi Coast was tedious. Having said that, the hotel will happily send a car down to pick you up and there is an infrequent local bus that stops at the door if your timing is right.

By far one of or the best hotel that we stayed at during this 3 weeks journey through 4 countries. While the room is basic (the bathroom is very modern and there's even like a spa bath. The rooms are spacious and clean. Ours had a view directly out to the water but not to the left or right, we were not high enough. The breakfast served in the morning is nice and just enough to get you through to a late lunch (this is good if you are touring)The restaurant on site is one of the best within all towns of Positano, Praiano and Amalfi. We ate there 3 out of our 4 nights there! This hotel is very accommodating in a down to earth REAL way. You are almost treated like family. It's a complete family that runs the place and while we were there Suella added 2 more (twins)... Suella's mom Margherita is a gem and so interesting to talk to! Andrea and Gennaro another added plus for sure!! Giovanna and Rocco icing on the cake!! So because I went on this site and trusted the reviews here about Hotel Margherita I made the best decision and had a worry free/hassle free wonderful time on the Amalfi Coast!

We would so happy to be in a tiny town near Positano and Amalfi. The bus stops right outside the hotel and we had a balcony room overlooking the sea. Perfect.

The hotel was very comfortable, our room had a super view of the sea. The only criticism was that we felt the food served in the restaurant varied from excellent to poor, which we did not expect for the price we paid.

Sehr schönes und gut ausgestattetes Hotel in ruhiger Lage. Tolles Badezimmer. Sehr freundlich. Toller Meerblick. Große Terrasse. Frühstück für italienische Verhältnisse top. Sehr gute Busverbindung nach Amalfi und Positano. Dort auch schöne Bademöglichkeiten. Einziger Wermutstropfen: Das angebotene Abendmenü erscheint zu teuer.

This is a great family-run hotel with lots of pride. They gave us free rides into town, all the Interent time we asked for and even stored our car (again for free) in the hotel parking garage for 3 days while we went to Capri. Could not ask for more. Twins are due in October, 2008!!!

This was the last two of 8 nights my wife and I spent in Italy after a transatlantic crossing. It was the perfect place to end our stay as all aspects of our stay here were Great! The Amalfie coast road bus stops right in front, tickets available thru the hotel at a discount, prepared tourist sheets at the counter, multiple languages spoken by the staff. Great food in the spacious restaurant. The view is amazing from the balcony. Parking is included and directly in front of the hotel or their inside garage. Beautiful tile floors and a relaxed atmosphere. There was a rooster that crowed at sunup each morning, so I marked it down a little for that, but I think I would have gotten used to it in another day. Then again, we had no alarm clock with us, so this wan't all bad either! We were usng a GPS to find the hoel, and it missed by a few hundred feet and made one wrong turn away from the ocean. Should have just gone stright another 500 feet and we would have driven right in front of it, which we did after one u-turn. No biggie, just continue straight ahead keeping the ocean alongside after you climb the hill - this will make sense when you're there, which I recommend you DO!

The nice thing is there there is a busstop in front of the hotel from where you can go to Positano. Besides the owner brings you to the center where you can get the bus to Amalfi. He also brings you to the beach. There is a rather good restaurant which offers you a menu.

we had a sea view room and this was great (not the case if you don't chose this type of room : the "normal" ones have no view and don't have the same charme. the staff of the hotel is a bit "cold" and doesn't really care of the clients of the hotel. but this is a nice place, quiet and charming.

We stayed at the Margherita for three nights and it was our favorite hotel. The rooms are spacious, very clean, great view. The staff is extremely accomodating and speaks good English. The bus to Positano picks up directly in front of the hotel -- very easy to tour the area from this hotel. We loved everything about it.

Andrea and Suela were wonderful hosts. They helped in so many ways, including taking us down the hill to get us started on our sight seeing. The bus stop outside the door was so convenient for a trip to Positano. The veiw from the balcony was awe inspiring. Best of all, as a small hotel, we were treated as friends. My high recommendation for a holiday on the Amalfi Coast.

The staff was very nice and very accommodating. They provided transportation to and from the bus stop for us. (The bus stop was at the bottom of a huge hill.) They even opened the restaurant early for us one night. The food was wonderful. The view of the sea from our balcony was absolutely stunning. I would definitely stay at Hotel Margherita again.

During a month long trip to Greece and Italy, the Margherita was the nicest, cleanest, most comfortable hotel in which we stayed. The view is incredible, the hotel is spotless, the staff is super nice, friendly, and helpful. The dining room is excellent with Margherita herself taking your dinner order during breakfast. We yearn to come back and we compare every hotel with this one.

Get an ocean view!!! The Amalfi coast is gorgeous! We stayed at the hotel just after the on-season had ended. We were welcomed by the staff and given rooms next to each other. There is computer access for a small fee and a nice common area in the hotel. The pool area and deck is suitable for sunbathing and cooling off. The included parking is key, and is one less headache to the exciting driving experience you will find on the coast. Praiano is less touristy than other locations. However, it is much more quaint and relaxing. The town is spread out on the hillside and though there are close by stores around, you won't find much of the bustling around like in Amalfi or Positano. The busses are easily accessible to the other places, and even with a car, we used the busses. For the bold and willing, you can hike to Positano or Amalfi, get your breath taken away, both literally and figuratively, and then take the bus back. We found the location giving us many options, but away from the typical tourist crowd. We ate at the hotel for a few nights and also in the town. The food was terrific, and the local wine is good and not expensive. Find another country to drink beer in, because even if you don't like wine, you will like it here. The breakfast was terrific, and the atmosphere for both occasions was social not only with the staff, but other guests as well. If all else failed, you could sit on the deck, look at the ocean, and not even imagine what your next cool experience would be. There is resort feeling to the area, but you feel like you're staying at your Uncle's condo, able to sneak in at a good value in a nice location. Renting scooters here is an option to get around, as parking isn't good. The adrenaline rush you get will exceed the caffiene rush from the cappucino. Cast danger to the wind and trust everyone to do the right thing, and you won't end up in the side of the SITA bus or over a cliff! There are many little towns to simply exp

Breakfats were excellent. I thought the menu del giorno was a bit pricy, for what there was, (e.g. one ball of ice cream for dessert)but it was actually around the same price as the few other places we looked at. As the summer season had just ended the small pool was covered up. We stayed in two rooms; the first had an old bathroom, but was large. They moved us (at their request) to a room with a new bathroom, but the bedroom was smaller. There were few shops or restaurants in Praiano, but I liked the place a lot.

We had a great stay at Hotel Margherita. We met a lot of fun people from all over the world. When we first arrived at the bus stop, a local vendor helped me call the hotel for them to come and pick us up (the SITA bus stop is down a steep hill - too much to walk up with luggage). Domenico picked us up - what a cutie! The whole family was super nice and attentive. The food was excellent as well. My husband and I ordered off the menu because the prixe fix was too much food for the both us - the food was delicious. And, tasting other people's dishes (we had dinners with a couple of other couples that we met there), the prixe fix food was also delicious. The breakfast is mainly continental but Margherita or someone in the family will come around asking if you want eggs. Also, if you needed to be dropped off at the bus stop (down the steep hill), the family was always nice enough to drop you off - I don't know ONE hotel/business that will do that for you. The family really goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable - very hard working people. I felt sad leaving because we had met so many nice people and we had such a fun time at the hotel. We enjoyed the pool a couple of times. Our room had a beautiful view of the ocean - worth every penny to get an ocean view room. We were more than happy with the location and the room, I liked the quietness of Praiano. Positano is a 10 minute bus ride and you can always catch the bus in front of the hotel (the hotel will give you a schedule when the bus will come by. Be aware that the bus does 1 1/2 loops before it heads to Positano. If you follow the schedule, you'll catch in on the loop that heads to Positano, otherwise, you get a short tour of Praiano - not such a bad thing either.) To me, this hotel felt like a youth hostel. Only in the sense that all the guests were so friendly and not afraid to get together to drink and eat. We would definitely come back!!

The hotel accommodations exceeded our expectations. The website is what really sold us on your hotel. Keep improving your virtual website. The reviews also helped us in choosing your hotel. Recognition also to Margherita for her public relations. Directions to your hotel could be better. A more detailed street map should be placed on your website. The meals were excellent. Coffee machine was also excellent. Margherita knows what Americans like for breakfast. (side note: waffles and pancakes could be added to breakfast menu as well). We had a very good stay at Hotel Margherita. They were more than happy to make us something extra for breakfast, or to accomodate our frequent request for ice! They even offered to bring some to our room. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean, the air conditioning worked and the balcony was very nice. It is a little bit of a walk to the SITA bus stop. The walk back is almost all uphill. It didn't really bother us, and I also think the hotel would take you down there if you requested it. They offered to do it for us.

First time in Italy and first time at Hotel Margherita - will definately go back to both! Hotel was friendly and welcoming, very relaxed and unobtrusive. My only wish was that the pool area was a little larger, but the views made up for it! We had a triple room which was quite spacious and very clean. Would have liked a little more variety on menu, as there was alot of fish (which I do not eat), but I am pretty sure they would have prepared something special had I requested it. Had my five year old daughter with me and hotel was child friendly. Praiano and Positano beautiful...

We had a great time and really enjoyed our stay. Margherita would come around the breakfast tables making sure everyone was happy and to offer anything else that might not be out for breakfast that one might like. We picked Praiano because it was between Positano and Amalfi. It was the more affordable of the area. I am so happy that we did. I loved it here. It is such a pretty place and the people are sooo friendly. It is a lot less touristy, and the views are spectacular. The pool is nice, and the deck is huge!!!! The breakfast was great. The staff were extremely welcoming and nothing was too much trouble - including looking up local events on the internet and driving us all (two seperate car trips) to local places of interest. Praiano itself is beautiful - quieter than Positano and Amalfi but having a good range of restaurants and an amazing nightclub at the sea front. Would recommend a day trip to Capri - taking in Positano on the way, also a day in Amalfi. Local bus links are excellent and cheap, stopping immediately outside hotel. Request a room with a sea view - its definately worth paying any extra - the views are fantastic.

Our room was nice, with a beautiful view. Unfortunately the walls seemed to be very thin and it was a bit noisy. However the food at the hotel was excellent and Margherita and the family were fantastic. They were very friendly and helpful. Praiano is a lovely little quiet town but if you want to get to other places along the Amalfi Coast during your stay it would be best to have your own transport. Although the local bus will pick you up right in front of the hotel, it can take a long time to get anywhere! We would definitely hire a scooter next time.

As Americans traveling to the Amalfi Coast for the 1st time, Hotel Margherita was an excellent choice. In fact it's much better to leave car parked during your stay, and take the bus which stops right in front:it avoids a lot of heart-stopping moments on the winding traffic-ridden coast-road.And in any case, you will not find any parking in Amalfi or Positano (unless at extortionate 3euros/hr) Bus costs 1 euro and goes direct to Positano;another goes down to the beach. Only negative note at hotel was dinner. we took it once, and, although not expensive (18euros), quality (compared to restaurants outside) was very mediocre. Chips soaked in oil, small portions and non-imaginative side-dishes.Not bad, just mediocre. Suggested restos are Alfonso and Armandino down at Praiano beach, just metres from the sea (buses run till late), and Al Gennaro (fantastic scialatielli allo scoglio and beautiful sunset over Positano and Capri from terrace) in Vettica (a 10minute stroll downhill,or wait for bus to Positano) Tip..to go to Capri, book a boat day tour from Positano (about 50euros inc alcoholic drinks), and ask them to pick you up from Praiano beach..it's free! Overall I would highly recommend this hotel for staying in; some reservations about the restaurant though.

Splendid 1 week stay. Highly recommended as a spot where you can easily travel (either by bus or by car, best by scooter) to the towns in the neighborhood. We even had free parking in the garage. This family run hotel responds to all your needs.

Our room was very clean and comfortable. The balcony overlooked the pool area and the coast which was strikingly beautiful and breathtaking. Signora Margherita prepared great meals and Mansuela was very good with sightseeing and directions. Thank you all for a memorable time in Praiano!!

We enjoyed our stay very much at Hotel Margherita. Dining area was wonderfully displayed with Margherita herself cooking our meals. The view from the room was breathtaking! Will remember this place fondly as Italy won the world cup the evening we were there. We were a little over budget for the one night including dinner but the beauty of the town was worth every penny.

The hotel is an excellent place to stay. Getting there (from Naples or Sorrento) is quite a long process. The best way we think is to take the MetroMare (commuter boat) between Naples and Positano then take the local bus system (not SITA) to Praiano which drops you off right at the front door. The train and bus combo was harder longer and more confusing to us. But the hotel is worth every minute and the food is great. Staff was extremely accommodating and gracious, the best we had on our two week trip to Italy. If you can't get a sea view, there is a lovely deck that overlooks the entire coastline and when we were there, there was never anyone using it! Our family of 4 (including two teenagers) had a great time.

While it is often difficult to select a hotel purely on the basis of internet reviews, we were grateful to have selected Margherita for our recent visit to the Amalfi coast. The owners and staff were outstanding and went above and beyond in the service provided. For example, the hotel provided us with a prepared schedule of buses connecting to ferries between Sorrento and Capri, and between Positano and Capri; and also provided overnight storage of our rental car when we went to Capri - all for no additional charge. It is the "little things" that turn a vacation into a great memory - thank you to everyone at Margherita for making this happen for us!

Family run business - very professional and helpful with local knowledge. Great view from our balcony and large room and bathroom. Staff spoke English well which made it easier to communicate and understand directions. A bus literally at the front door takes you to Positano - 1 Euro each way which made a day trip extremely easy. Highly recommended!

The Margharita is an excellent family run hotel where they are willing to do anything for you from parking your car to cooking your favourite meal. The views are amazing and the area great for walking. The village is not touristy but Positano and Amalfin are easily accessible by bus if you want that sort of thing.

Hotel Margherita is a very well run family owned hotel. Everyone was very friendly an welcoming and would gladly assist with any request that we had. If travelling by public transport to the hotel, contact the hotel to come to pick you up from the bus stop in Praiano as the hill to the hotel, with cases, is a long one. Once at the hotel, the public transport to Positano leaves from outside the hotel door. The buses are the best way to get around as they are frequent and cheap. The rooms were well appointed and clean. Breakfast was well presented and if what you want is not apparently available, just ask! The orders for the evening meal are taken at breakfast and whilst there is a menu, if you think of something particular that you would like, again just ask. All our requests were provided cheerily. All the meals were of a good quality and the house wine is more than acceptable. Praiano is a beautiful place to stay and not as busy as Amalfi or Positano. Would we recommend the hotel - YES! Would we return to the hotel - Most definitely. Good value and nice people.

This was one of the best locations and most welcoming hotels I have ever been to! I cannot wait to go back! The area of the hotel is secluded yet still close to things in the area. The people that work at the hotel are amazing! We felt like part of the family! We went in March and it wasn't as warm as I would have liked but there were no crowds for things. I think maybe May or September would be perfect.

For the price we were extremely happy. The rooms and matresses and pillows were very comfortable. Staff was very helpful and spoke good English. They were able to drive us down to the main bus connection. The menu was varied and we found great meals for Euro 30 for two. Location was up a steep hill when walking but there was a bus 4 times a day which stopped at the hotel door.

The hotel provides an excellent base for exploring the Amalfi coast. Life appears to go on in Praiano without the tourist trade, unlike Amalfi and Positano. It is well worth exploring the lanes (interesting shrines, cats, lots of steps, etc.), plus there is Piazza above the hotel (by a church) where you can catch a great sunset. There also seems to be some good walking up in the hills. There is a small pebbly beach that's free (but watch for glass), but the beaches at Amalfi and Positano are better. The buses are an experience, packed with tourists but fun nonetheless. I would advise getting a room with a sea view. We spoke to a couple who had a nice view of a rockface. Our room on the third floor was fabulous with a neat balcony and good bathroom with bath and decent shower. Room had a flat screen TV for those into watching TV on holiday. Internet access was available and I think you can get a broadband connection wirelessly if you bring your laptop via tin.it. Breakfast was good a plentiful. We stayed seven days and the variety was also fine. The dinners are also good and you can request anything special at breakfast (and La Brace down the hill and along the main road - by the other hotels on your right - is an excellent restaurant).

This was a lovely hotel with friendly and helpful staff with excellent English (for those without Italian). The location was perfect, there is a bus stop right outside the hotel with frequent local service to all towns along the Amalfi coast and the hotel was on the top of a hill and had amazing views of the Amalfi coast. It is excellent value for money, the rooms were great and I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone.

The location and views were great. The bathroom shower had so much mold we were afraid to use it. Fortunately, we were only there for two days. We ate at the hotel restaurant twice and then went elsewhere to eat. Our first day we tried lunch and dinner in the restaurant and we received the same simple menu for both meals showing only limited 1st, 2nd, and dessert courses. We saw people at other tables eating food that was not on our menu, but they were French and Italian while we were American. We had experienced this discrimination against Americans previously so we just started eating elsewhere. I will find someplace else to stay on my next trip.

We had the best time at this hotel. The view is gorgeous. The restaurant is great. Margherita would come out at breakfast and ask us what we wanted for dinner ,whether or not it was on the menu.(15 euros) Parking was free. You can take a bus to Positano. We met several people who took a cab from the Naples and didn't have a car. The pool was beautiful. The only room we've had with a flat-screen TV. Don't even think of staying anywhere else.

We were so pleased with Hotel Margerhita. The town was wonderful. The bus to Positano and Almalfi stopped in front of the hotel, very convenient. The breakfast was good, you have to ask for eggs, but they will make them anyway you like. We took them up on the offer of a price fix dinner and it was wonderful. One of the best meals we had on our trip. We are still thinking about that lemon cake!

We had a great stay! However it would have been helpful if the website mentioned the small orange bus which can be caught at the bottom of the hill to take you to the hotel. We walked!! Great views, and only minutes by bus to Positano, and 2 hours to Pompeii. Plenty of good restaurants, especially the one at the waters edge down the stairs. The seafood is definitely worth the long climb back up the stairs! Best seafood ever !!
