Hotel Charles - Prague

I was very wary when booking the two hotel rooms for myself and my colleague, getting great value for a 4 star Hotel so close to Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and the Famous Square but I liked the look and booked anyway with my fingers crossed. When we arrived we got a big welcome, the elegence and history of of the Charles Hotel said it all, our rooms were air conditioned, rooms clean and fresh, beautiful architecture and sophisticated decor reflecting the Hotel Charles character. The ensuite was immaculate, great shower, lots of fresh towels with Roman at the front desk more than willing to supply more towels, phone chargers or snacks. The safe in the rooms were easy to operate, the television had lots of channels and the mini and snack bars were well stocked. Breakfast was continental and I enjoyed it Petr was on hand to help us get whatever we wanted, even asking chef to fry some eggs for us. The Charles Hotel is a Hidden Jewel, very central, peaceful and welcoming. Roman was brilliant giving great advice of where best to get good value and make the most of Prague. Jim I will be back. The room was huge - certainly more spacious than I really needed, and a great improvement (even taking into consideration the price increase) on the hotel I had moved out of. It is well located for ease of access to the majority of Prague's tourist areas, and a short walk across the bridge to the main nightlife areas.

Hotels location was perfect, room was spacious and nice, reception´s staff were excellent doing far more than expected for your comfort.

The Charles is in one of the best spots in Prague, just a hop and a skip from the Charles Bridge and close to all sights on that side of the river. You can see all the sights in Prague by foot and really don't need to use public transport at all. We found the staff at the Charles to be utterly charming and helpful at all times. Breakfast was included, which was a suprise as we understood that we had booked 'room only'. Some reviews of the Charles have suggested the breakfast is average to poor. I would disagree and question what people expect. We found a varied menu of 3 juices, 3 cereals, a variety of yogurts, various fresh fruits, a variety of breads, meats, cheeses, 3 kinds of jam, butter, coffee and a range of teas. More than adequate. Our double room was 'compact' but clean and attractive. I would consider trying to book a suite if we went again. The nearby jazz bar is good, even if you don't go downstairs to the jazz. The beer and food is very nice. It is U Maleho Glena Jazz Club, Karmelitska 23, Mala Strana. For sheer decadence, hire a box at the Royal Opera House and catch a ballet or opera performance. Locals dress up which is nice. You can spot the tourists, in anoraks and sensible shoes! Visit the Cafe Imperial to view this elegant, restored example of a bygone era. The coffee is probably the best in Prague and the cakes are good. Try to sit on the left of the cafe to get the best view of the beautiful tiling.

A perfect location to spend 4 nights around New Year's Eve, just a block from the Charles Bridge and an easy walk to other tourist sites. Off the main street but noisy at times. Suite had a massive bedroom and living room, with excellent bathroom and faultless bed. Nicely polished, old style. Breakfast facilities a major letdown - too cramped and poor quality. Restaurants covering all price ranges are nearby. Good cafes and pubs.

Nice rooms. Great location. Poor breakfast on sunday.. but not the other days. Some desturbing noice from city during night, but not more than you can expect staying in the city. Good beefrestaurant in the same basement. Would choose the same hitel next time because of location.

Tres deçu par les commentaires Venere et Michelin sur cet hotel ( j'apprecie d'habitude beaucoup vos recommandations ) L'hotel est bruyant, negligé, Salle de bain à peine minimum, petit dejeuner limite ( pain meme pas frais, aucun choix ) Hotel restant cependant remarquablement situé pour visiter Prague. C'est le seul avantage.

We did ask for a specific room but did not get it.

Beautiful hotel. Room full of character. Excellent central location. Taxi to/from airport arranged by hotel with no problem. Only negative was that our room was above a bar which played very loud music until 4am.
