Room and balcony small but view fantastic as was listening to waves as fall asleep. Hotel situation on busy street so some noise from buses and cars but could offset by closing shutters. 10 min walk to beach. Hotel staff very helpful with restaurant suggestions and related issues.

This was a superb hotel - exactly what somebody needs to relax. The rooms at the top had the best views, house wine is superb & 1/3 price of exactly the same wine in the restaurants!! Easy walk down to the beach (on the roads) but would only advise the 327 steps down to the beach to the younger clientele. Restaurants moments away, cheaper restaurants are further up the hill. Get a chance - hire a scooter & visit Hotel Belvedere just outside Termini - breathtaking.

Positano is Paradise. We had a qaud room with a balcony and the view was breathtaking! The staff was welcoming and friendly. The hotel was 5 minute walk to the centre by the steep stairways and 15 minutes by road. Breakfast selection could be better. Would definitely come back to Positano in this hotel!

We could not have asked for a more welcoming entrance from Giovanni. Nothing was a problem with our stay and he was very helpful with organising tours etc. Breakfast served a great cafe latte with cereals, toast, pastries etc. as well as fresh juices. The Hotel is located right next to Cafe Positano which serves great food. I will definately return to La Reginella again

this hotel was perfect. we had a huge room (room 21) that overlooked all of Positano. The steps were right outside the front door that took you down to the beach and the sea. It was a perfect location though because you could walk around through the entire town. I was surprissed by how big the room was. we had a balcony with an amazing view and the bathroom was clean and awesome. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again if I return to Poisitano. oh- ask the big guy at the front desk where to go for dinner because the places that are not down by the water are MUCH better food.

The location was well positioned and our room had a water view & balcony. It was great to stroll down the steps to the town of Positano and then walk back up the road way to the hotel. The reception was excellent and the gentle man was very attentive and eager to assist. It was great for 1 or 2 nights with easy access to the town by foot. The building is very old and the rooms could do with a revamp but they're not bad. The bathromm was very small, definately needs a revamp, the hot water system was very noisy. Breakfast was fairly basic. We had trouble connecting to internet at the hotel - we couldn't, but did everywhere else we stayed in Europe.

We had two children 12 and 14 and the quadruple room (double and 2 singles)was spacious with a small balcony and the best view of Positano. When we stayed an extra night we were given a 3 room apartment with a lenghty balcony and the same beautiful view at the same price which was fantastic. If you are coming by bus from Sorrento, get off as you enter Positano or you'll have to catch a local bus back. The restaurant across the road Caffe Positano is delicious with the same awesome view.

This hotel was on a one way street but there was room to stop and check in. The reception helped us with our luggage and took care of our car for 22 euros. The room was great, and we had a balcony overlooking the ocean. It was clean and spacious. The breakfast was standard, a croissant and cereal but it was ok. The location was good as it was right opposite the stairs going down to the beach. Bit pricey but they all are in this area.

The decor of the hotel is a little run down and I felt the rooms were rather pricey compared to the rates of the other two hotels I had book during this visit to Italy. This was my first visit to Positano and I did not know what to expect. The price and shabby decor may just be the nature of the location.
Australia, Jun 2008
Having stayed in Positano before in a villa - this time round I decided to do it differently as I had my 71 year old mother with me. This was certainly the way to do it when there is only 2 of you. The hotel was in a fantastic location and as I had read the reviews I did request a room on the top floor which meant climbing a few steps but it was worth it for the spectacular views from our room which were over the township and across the water. This was one of the main things that I did want to have from the room and we got it. Spectacular! Positano is a fantastic place and I felt that Tony and his staff made our stay a very pleasurable experience. My mother, who had not been there before, just fell in love with the magic of the scenery and location - who wouldn't? I would also say that the prices are reasonable for the location and standard of the Hotel but as I said I have been to Positano before so new what to expect in relation to pricing. All in all I would stay again at Hotel Reginella when next I am back in Positano - and I will be back.

The rooms were very big and comfortable. Our only problem was the noise of traffic in the mornings but the view from our balcony compensated that !There were 3 ot us travelling,Dad,Mum & son,we were in Positano to attend our eldest sons wedding which was spectacular.

As the reviews indicated Tony (owner) was the consummate host. Very helpful with directions, suggesions etc. Hotel in an excellent location relative to the village of Positano. Just the right walking distance (10 min)and a 325 stair short cut to and from the beach. Second and third floor view rooms are excellent. Would not hesitate to stay there again. Small grocery store and two restaurants within 100 meters of the hotel. Recommend driving right to the hotel and then parking in the paid garage down the hill 500 meters.

We really enjoyed this great hotel in a convenient location. The staff is very friendly and helpful! We eat at La Terraza on the beach below and it was great with fantastic atmosphere! Great value for the money ... Do not expect American TV ( but this is any place in Italy...even if it notes Sat TV)

After traveling overnight it was nice to be welcomed by someone who was expecting us. We had mentioned initially that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary so they provided us with their most romantic room, and arranged a balcony table with a teriffic view at a charming restaurant just up the street.Location is everything in Positano, from your view of the surrounding hillsides to your proximity to the beach and local shopping. We had a great view & a resonable walk to "town" with several fine rest. nearby. The beds were firm & spacious (not the typical European variety), the breakfast was continental. They are located on the main one-way street which was convienent but noisy at night. We enjoyed watching people walking to & from town but we heard every scooter & trash truck. There are many quieter Hotels but understand they require dragging your bags up long, narrow stairways so pick your poison.I would recomend La Reginella as a good value overall.

I booked this hotel based on all of the glowing reviews. This hotel was nice but 350 stairs above town. The first room we were given was not that great and we could hear every noise on the street below. Also the shower was Terrible. The noise on the street started with the trash truck around 7am. The owner is very nice and knew that we were not happy, so he moved us to the third floor. The room on the 3rd floor was Beautiful and had a great 2 person shower.

The owners really take care of guests. We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The location is very good since it is right in front of the steps that lead you to the beach. The only drawback was that we had a room with a balcony facing the street, so the mopeds got pretty noisy early in the morning. I suppose a hotel that is more in the mountain and not right on the street would be quieter, but that wasn't a big detractor for me. The service and staff were always very friendly and informative, and the owner goes out of his way to provide any information you need during your stay. There is a handly baggage elevator which was great for us because Positano was on the last leg of our trip and we were tired of hauling our luggage up the stairs in all the hotels we stayed. Breakfast was good, typical assortment of pastries and jams and cereal, but the coffee was excellent. I would recommend the Reginella to anyone that wants to have a great stay in Positano.

We just completed a three week trip to Italy....I wish I had started here....I might not have ever left. Tony, the owner, and his son Enzo were great....Made us feel like we were visiting relatives. The view from our balcony was as it good as it gets anywhere. This hotel is living proof that the "Star" rating system is a bunch of BS. This hotel was rated 2-Star but I will take it any day over the three and four star hotels we stayed in all over Italy. Bravo Tony & Enzo!!!

My Twin sister and I had the opportunity to stay at Hotel Reginella and we must say that it was the BEST hotel we have stayed at in Italy . We were treated like royalty from the moment we entered this hotel until the day we left! The staff, the service and the owners were so wonderful and treated us like family and were always there to assist us in all that we did during our stay. The owner Tony Reginella and his cousin Mario were amazing and made sure our stay was the best experience we ever had in Italy . We definitively will go back and would encourage anyone to stay at this lovely hotel and enjoy the experience that Positano and the Almalfi coast have to offer! We plan to travel to this hotel and area every year and would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy the best Italy has to offer!

Large, clean room right on the street with upstairs balcony opening up to street and fantastic view. Early morning garbage truck pick-up noise is the ONLY negative. Very friendly, helpful desk staff and inexpensive lobby bar with a varied selection. The morning breakfast was very nice with excellent service. Only stayed 1 night which was unfortunate as Positano is difficult to get to and from. Town itself is set up for the tourist trade with a good selection of shops and dining options. Town has 2 directions, Down and Up!!

This was my first time to Positano, the location of La Reginella is ideal with being on the road for ease & convenience when arriving & leaving but also being close to the steps to get to the centre of positano and down to the beach / harbour. The hotel owners & staff were very friendly and welcoming and are always willing to help with any requests. The rooms are clean and our balcony had a fantastic view.

my friend and i stayed in positano for 5 days at the hotel reginella. positano is incredibly beautiful and warm, welcoming and fun. the hotel is 200 steps up the cliffs, so a porter meets you at the hydrofoil and offers to take your bags to the hotel for 18 Euro. we walked up the rest of the way. it would have been nice if the hotel covered this cost somehow. i liked the hotel very much. when we arrived we were treated to the best room, a very big one with a great view, at no extra cost. tony and his wife rosie were just wonderful. if you have any mobility problems, positano is just not for you, but if you can walk, everything is nearby.

Located on the main road in Positano so easy to get to and get luggage in. No step climbing involved and hotel staff run by husband and wife who were very pleasant, English speaking and arranged our taxi ride back to Rome for us in the middle of the night, loaded our luggage and even found us a room across the street for an extra night that we wanted to spend there but they were booked. Awesome family run hotel with clean, large, brightly decorated rooms with views to die for!! 4 girls stayed in same room with large bathroom and tons of floor space and closet space on top floor of hotel. Plenty of restaurants on main street near hotel but to get to beach area you need to walk down main road or many stairs! Not a problem for us but would have been for someone not wanting to walk a hundred stairs!! We loved this hotel and the people and would stay there again definitely! Breakfast included but very basic, continental style in small area.

We caught a LA Sita bus from Sorrento to Positano and got off at Bar International - we had to ask the staff there for directions but basically if you go down the hill opposite, to the shop, you'll find it. La Reginella is in a great position with awesome views. Our room is exactly as pictured on the web. We opted to have breakfast on the balcony on the first morning the extra 5 euro was worth it. The bed was uncomfortable and hard but otherwise i couldn't fault the place, position or staff. Our room was on the 4th floor so be prepared to walk a lot.

Location is great, in the middle of Pasitea Road and we had a window with a espetacular view!! But, they give us a room outside the hotel ( we weren`t aware of it), and that one was not so nice as the regular romms. Also, the breakfast was really poor, just bread and butterand gelly and milk and coffee.

Fantastic location in Positano and the family running the hotel could not have been more friendly or helpful, from bus timetables & taxi bookings to special Easter cake on Easter Sunday. Highly recommended! Definitely not a 2 Star place, more like 3 and service like a 5 star.

We just returned from our trip to Italy a couple weeks ago. I must say, La Reginella was a pleasant surprise. After leaving a poor B&B decision in Florence, La Reginella was one of the best choices we made on the trip. Compared to everything else we stayed in on our trip, the room was huge. The bathroom was also big with a nice sized shower (I'm 6'5"). La Reginella faces the sunrise and for some reason, the hotels on the other side of the valley facing the sunset seemed to be more sought after. However, we enjoyed having our cappuchino in the morning sun. The staff was also excellent, helping with directions and even booking our boat trip over to Capri. I didn't even have to ask. La Reginella is an excellent price to value in gorgeous Positano. We can't wait to go back and would stay in La Reginella again.

La Reginella was in a good location, midway in Positano. The view of our balcony was a treasure. The manager was very sweet and eager to help. I would suggest taking a taxi from Sorrento to Positano if you have more than just a carry on. The buses are extremely crowded. The hotel was a really good buy.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a lift for your luggage but not for people. So while helpful, you still have stairs to climb after you climb the stairs/hill from the water, but it's worth it. The terrace had a spectacular view! Breakfast was included but simple fair - croissants, bread, coffee, water. There is a restaurant on the water, La Pergoda (or something like that), that was VERY good and had live entertainment. The staff was very helpful in parking our car and returning it when we were ready to leave. I'd highly recommend.

This hotel has a very nice view of the bay (as I suspect almost every other hotel in Positano). Close enough to the beach and the shopping areas. The staff was very friendly, helpful with making taxi arrangements for us to see Pompeii and to get to our train station on departure. Although higher-priced than accommodations in other parts of Italy, it's probably fair for Positano. There was no air conditioning so we were sleeping with the windows open and hearing the street noise (but we still slept surprisingly well). Only other complaint: The paper-thin (literally) towels.

A fantastic hotel in an amazing location. As another reviewer said, this is MUCH better than a two star hotel. Not a modern hotel but very clean nevertheless. Try to get a room on the top floor, the incredible views are worth climbing the stairs for!! The only minus is that the hotel fronts the loop road in Positano and can be noisy sometimes when the boys are doing laps on their Lambretta's. Having said this, I would stay here again without hesitation.

This hotel was quite nice to stay at. For the quality and price it was a perfect match. As everywhere on the Amalfi coast I think the prices of the hotel rooms are very inflated for what you get. At least at this hotel we had a lovely view from our room. The room was clean but the beds were not very comfortable. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. Parking your car is a bit of a problem if you don't want to use the service provided by the hotel. To park your car costs 18 Euros/day.

Positano is Beautiful.. No matter where you stay, however La Reginella was fantastic, they parked our car for us (at a price). The best part of this La Reginella was the family who greeted us and took very good care of us. I had a slight mix up with the buses, so be wary of the bus and get on the right one.. I completely recomend to all this hotel. To top off the balcony is spacious and the most breath taking view I have encountered..

We found the Hotel Manager very friendly and helpful from our arrival to our departure. Positano is amazingly picturesque. The rooms are very spacious and had a lovely view over the valley. However there is some noise from the street in the mornings, but this is to be expected for most Hotels, given than they are located on the roads. If you want to get a feel for everyday life there and have the fexibility of being under your own timetable I recommend renting scooters for a day to drive Positano & see the surrounding areas. There Is a scooter rental shop across the road from the Hotel, where you will have to drive a monitored lap of the town to qualify for renting. The Hotel is located half way down the oneway system, so I suggest getting one of the town buses down to the Hotel. In all we had a wonderful holiday there and would definitely go back again.

Nice little hotel in good location of Positano. Breakfast unfortunately without view on the spectacular scenerie. Hosts are professionally nice (not very warm harted like most of the hosts on our trip throughout southern italy). Rooms were clean, inventary quite old. We couldn´t have a private outdoor dinner because of an ant-street across our balcony. The view was spectacular and we got everthing we asked for from our hosts. Positano is probably one of the most beautiful, most scenic and romantic places I have been. It's hard to find good 2 and 3 star hotels in this expensive area but the Reginella was a really good bet. After a trek down several hundred flights of stairs from the Sita bus stop we found this little hotel. (It is virtually impossible to get to any hotel in Positano without a trek up or down stairs!) We had requested a room with a view and this is certainly what we got. From the top floor the view was incredible and the room comfortable but basic. Our breakfast was adequate and can be served on the balcony in your room if your ask the reception staff the night before. The reception staff were very friendly however when we asked about times for boats along the coast to Pompeii and Naples the receptionist informed us that boats only went to Salerno and Capri. We were somewhat confused as we had seen the timetable, the day before, down by the harbour for boats to both Pompeii and Naples and when we enquired at the harbour again later we soon found out that there were 2 or 3 boats a day to these destinations. I thought we asked the question clearly but maybe they didn't understand us? Our only other complaint is the bathroom which smelt strongly of sea water (no idea why?) and the bathtub which was slightly over due for replacing. Other than that everything was fine. Grazie PS...Another tip is order a drink or two from reception and enjoy it sat on your balcony, the view is great and the price is much better that any of the over priced bars or restaurants around the area!!!

A good value, very friendly hotel with great views of Positano. Car parking arrangements which are a necessity on the Amalfi Coast if you are on a driving holiday are also excellent. The comments made in other reviews about noise levels I feel are slightly unjust. There is some noise from the road however once you are in Positano you will appreciate this something you will experience wherever you stay. Seeing the sun rise over the bay and feeling the sea breeze sweeping through the room as you woke more than compensated for any road noise! The photos on the web also do not do the hotel justice, we were very pleasantly surprised. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel!!

The best quality of La Reginella was the management. They made us feel so welcomed, and went out of their way to orientate us and secure reservations when we met difficulties. The breakfast was delightful.

excellent and friendly service from the family at the hotel especially tony, the owner. a family owned hotel since 1960. the room worked better for sleeping purposes when they moved a fan in and then we could close the exterior door and block the noise. the bathroom in this room was the best of our trip in italy. (19 days and many locations)

the location is great and I suppose the price is pretty good considering the cost of most hotels in Positano. Tony was very helpful. All was very clean. Right over the main street and very noisy but most of Positano is.

Too much expensive for a true modest hotel

La Reginella and Positano were beautiful! The only sad thing is the dramatic rise in prices for visitors to Italy in general since the switch to the Euro.

It was difficult to believe that the photos were what we were getting but they were spot on - spectacular! The hotel was immediately impressive for its cleanliness. Some details were not mentioned - the car parking system was really convenient, but needed to be reserved and cost 15 Euros a day (well worth it); there were 320 steps to the beach (fine for a family such as ours) and a further 65 to our room (we had requested a high room for the enhanced view); the views were absolutely spectacular at all times of the day and night, including from our bathroom!; the hotel map was much more accurate than Mappy or Michelin, which showed it much nearer to the main road; The main road is hardly busy by English standards, but is very narrow; every room has a balcony; breakfast is included; the prices for drinks in the hotel is cheap. You would have to know Positano to know what you are getting. The place is one very long, very narrow, street, so every building is on the road (which really has very little effect on the peaceful atmosphere), or is a walk off it. We ate each evening at Chez Black - watch the added cover charge which is in the total but not listed in the items. Driving in Italy is exhilarating, to say the least, and it really does take 90 minutes to do 40km to the hotel if you don't get lost.

The stay was overall very nice. The staff in the hotel were incredibly friendly and made us feel very comfortable. The slight disappointment was that the room looked very diffirent from the one on the website and although quite adequate did not correspond with what we were originally presented with.

We really enjoyed the hospitality and charm of La Reginella Hotel. Perfectly located to wonderful shops and restaurants. And moped rental just 10 steps from the hotel. A beautiful view from our terrace. Lovely high ceilings, beautifully decorated bathrooms. And the best cappucino and fresh baked croissants every morning. Two thumbs up!

the biggest problem was the street noise....which we solved by closing the shutters...but it would have been nicer had we been able to leave the shutters open... but the street noise was too much. also...the view of the sea was obscured by the ugly roof of the building right across the street. which was not the end of the world , but was definitely sub-optimal. otherwise...it was a great place to stay!!!

We are not married yet, but staying in Positano at Reginella Hotel has been like a marvellous honey moon. Welcoming has been excellent and the vacation too. Thanks to Tonino for the boat tour on last Sunday of the summer.

Fantastic breakfasts, friendly hosts who speak English. Balconies and views were great. Restaurants nearby. A perfectly relaxing holiday and I'd definitely return to La Reginella.

the price is quite high - all that for the great view over positano and the sea is a little bit too much. but the staff was very kind and everything went alright. public areas are very small - one could expect more space (e.g. a bar to hang out in the evening) for that price ...

I absolutely recommend this hotel! Our room had a private terrace with spectacular views. The owners are friendly and helpful. They recommended restaurants and gave good directions to sites. The croissants in the morning were delicious and the location of the hotel is perfect for enjoying Positano.

If you're staying at La Reginella, bring your earplugs! Between the motorscooters buzzing by below your window and guests returning late (very) through the echoing, uncarpeted hallways, it's tough to get a good night's sleep. Closing the doors and windows against the street noise is not a solution if it's hot out - no air conditioning. That's the only drawback, albeit a big one, to staying at this charming place. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms spacious and lovely.

Torneremo sicuramente..

Having vacationed periodically in Positano for over thirty years, I can honestly say that the hotel La Reginella captures the spirit and aesthetic of this enchanting city. Simpicity, sparkling cleanliness and the motif of the Amalfi Coast are part of La Reginella's charm.

Very good, even the croissants lived up to expectations. Best way to get to hotel is by the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento and then the SITA bus. It is quite a walk down the hill to the hotel so best to wait for the Positano internal bus service which runs every 20 mins.

This is a lovely hotel with one major downside. It does not have air conditionning and the rooms with sea views are situtated on the one and only road that goes through Positano. As a result you can't shut your windows b/c it's too hot but there is a tremendous amount of noise from the street. The owner says they are getting ac next year and if that happens this is a great little hotel.

We had a fantastic stay at La Regionella. The owner was very helpful - suggesting daytrips and the travelling back to Naples. Our room had an amazing view and the hotel has a very central location. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to go back.

We were given one room, which turned out to be unacceptable. We insisted on having another room. This one turned out to be much better. The hotel is a long walk to the beach, but you pass a lot of nice shops on the way. The view from the room was spectacular! For parking, it is 15 Euros per day. Be prepared to pay in cash.

Even if it is only a two star hotel it is very cute and clean. The personnel is very kind and you have always a good coffee in the morning. The view is wonderful. In summer it is quiet noisy but you can close the window and sleep with the ventilator on. The car park is very expenssive and we assume we paid higher prices booking through venere than other guests.
