Nettes italienisches Hotel - für ital. Verhältnisse üppiges Frühstück, die Zimmer sauber und die ganze Anlage sehr gepflegt; eventuell könnten bei einem längeren Aufenthalt (4, 5 Tage plus) die Zimmer doch zu klein werden - allerdings ist die Aussicht von den meerseitigen Zimmern (Achtung bei Reservierung!) fantastisch und die Lage auf der Insel insgesamt sehr günstig; nach Portoferraio sind es mit Auto ca. 15/20 Minuten. Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal; die Hoteleigner sehr nett! Alles in allem durchaus empfehlenswert.

Purtroppo davanti all'hotel ristagna l'acqua con delle alghe e ciò provoca cattivo odore nei giorni di poco vento. Non era possibile fare colazione all'aperto.

Un albergo che mantiene quanto promette, con un buon rapporto qualità/prezzo, un ambiente tranquillo e rilassante ed un personale amichevole e premuroso.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel very much, the surroundings were delightful & so were the people; but with the exception of the food! The breakfasts were fine, but the lunch & dinner we tried on different days, were both extremely disappointing. We received the impression that this hotel cateres for many groups & guests from northern Europe, so maybe the food reflected that, rather than more authentic Tuscan cooking! For any guests seeking high quality catering, we would suggest only bed & breakfast, as we had; which freed us to find other high quality restaurants in both Portferraio & other nearby places, rather then feeling tied to the hotel. For holidays taken whenever it might be more likely to rain, we would advise that guests take their own umbrella, as it is necessary to go out into the open air, to reach the eating areas, from guests' rooms. For this hotel a car is not 100% essential, as there are bus services, but certainly much easier if any exploration is planned. For the private secure car park it is also necessary to pay 7 euros per day, altho' free parking is available outside, depending on the season. The private beach is fine gravel, but is about 100 metres from the hotel. The weekly musical evening was very enjoyable & of high standard. We would definitely return to this hotel & the island, bearing in mind, our comments.

The hotel itself was beautiful, but very isolated. Our reservation was for 3 nights, but we left for Portoferraio after 1 night. The staff was very accommodating and understood that this was not the right place for us. There is no way to get to and from Il Mare from Portoferraio except by taxi (20 euros each way). We would have been unable to explore the wonderful island of Elba from this location without a car. This would be a great place to just relax and do nothing but sit by the pool.

A lovely quiet place at that time of the year. The retaurant was unexpectedly special!

We did not appreciate that the season on Elba started in late April so we were the only guests in the hotel. However the hotel staff were excellent and even got up early on the day of our departure to make sure that we had breakfast before boarding the ferry. The chef cooked for us personally every evening giving us two choices of starter, main course and desert. The breakfast was buffet style as in many hotels nowadays.It was strange at first to realise that the breakfast/restaurant was over the road but it appears as if this is the style for the majority of hotels on Elba. The location is very quiet and requires a car (secure gated parking area behind hotel). Pool, terrace overlooking the bay is as shown on their website and would be lovely when the weather warms up. I would go back but have seen what there is to see on Elba. If the weather is warm and you wish to be idle, Elba is great for a week. Our 4 night stay was perfect for the early part of the season.

The hotel was very clean. Our room was very small, but we had a very large balcony. The beach, however, smelled like sewage and did not have nice sand. The hotel is not in Portoferrario as the address indicates. The hotel is about 15 minutes outside of the town. The receptionist spoke VERY little English. In the end, we found out that we had received wrong information from her due to her inablility to communicate in English. The lobby, pool and rooms were all kept up very nicely. I would not go back to this hotel due to the location and digusting smell of the "beach".
