hotel with super flair in a very central location. stylish with clean rooms. very friendly and helpful employees. outstanding breakfast buffet in the idyllic hotel garden or classic room. better sleep with windows closed because of noise by individuals especially on saturday night by parties nearby or seagulls (maybe a problem on hot summer nights without airconditioning). all i can do is highly recommend it, a must for future trips to porto.

Bien situe, pratique ,assez tranquille.

A very good stay . The hotel is old fashioned with faded charm but well maintained ,in a steep narrow road , but most streets in Porto are like that. Location is close to main square & metro , the interior is eccentric, the garden is very pleasant and the breakfast room spacious. All of the staff were excellent , welcoming ,friendly, and helpful , with good English spoken . Breakfast was very good. The rooms are reasonably basic but are clean and airy and decent value for money. As a hotel stop for 3 or 4 nights this is highly recommended. First time in Porto , parts of the old town are run down but the parks , squares and riverfront are beautiful. best food we found along the river cafes , really good service at the Lapin. Church interiors are plasteresque and spectacularly over the top - but don't miss the wonderful interior of the bookshop in Rue des Carmelitas near the hotel.

A Hotel sending you back into the late 19th century. Well preserved ambience. Located very central, it is truely a sophisticated place to stay in Porto.

not an awfully warm welcome, but very professionnal and efficient. hotel very pleasant and with character (a little old fashioned which we like very much). very quiet and pleasant non-smoking room, with nice bathroom. excellent buffet breakfast. very conveniently situated in the proximity of Estacion Sao Bento. Map to reach the hotel a bit slimpy (the Rua da Fabrica does not start on the Avenida de Alliados as stated on the map). excellent Q/P ration.

The general surrounding area is a little seedy, but the hotel itself is nice and clean. The breakfast is very good, with good service in the dining area. The staff are pleasant and helpful. There was a little noise from the street early morning. The room was perfect, the bathroom a good size and in perfect order.

Beautiful spacious public rooms. Lots of quiet corners to sit if you don't want to use your room. Our room 312 was at the back of the hotel looking out on the roofs of Porto. Very very quiet. Good area and if you had any doubts the 24 hour guard of 2 policeman on the neighbouring Bank of Portugal would reassure you! Breakfast very good continental plus option of cooked English breakfast

Excellent hotel in very convenient location downtown; old hotel (since 1888?) with great old times charm in decor in rooms and public rooms (though facilities modern). Their web page should include more photos of public rooms with antiques! Superb breakfast--wide range of choice hot and cold, like a Victorian country house breakfast. Lovely little garden at back, with camellia trees blooming (in March). Room at front overlooked a street that could be a little noisy at night as people were leaving taverns, but no problem with windows and curtains closed. I highly recommend this hotel, which had been recommended to me by friends who had stayed there, and certainly plan to stay there next time I am in Porto. For smokers: smoking permitted in the garden, which is convenient and pleasant.

Although very well situated in the heart of old Porto, this hotel lack of maintenance in its bedroom. The efforts to have an excellent old looking of the breakfast room and an excellent breakfast offer don't hide the fact that the rooms need upgrading. For lovers of all places.

4 days in Porto. The Hotel was beautiful, a real step back in time, lots of different levels and grand staircases and seating areas with different styles of furniture, a pleasure to explore and look at. The Breakfast room was gorgeous and the food was plentiful and very tasty and satisfying, a delight to eat. The breakfast waitor however was very unfriendly, but worked hard at his job. On the whole, the staff were quite rude and unfriendly, which spoiled the stay a little, but there was one man and one younger bloke who were nice and pleasant. The staff were quite rude at times, however they were efficient at their jobs. My room had a tiny balcony with a view of the rooftops of the city, a delight, however the water tanks were directly above this area and were a little noisy at times.

Ci ritornerei.

We really had a good time in that hotel in Porto. The atmosphere is special with all those nice remains of the golden old days ("Jugendstil"). A special thing is the nice breakfast room; the breakfast was surprisingly nice for a 2 Star Hotel. Too bad that you can't eat it in the nice garden!

Stayed here 10/4/08 for two nights. Room 204. Paid 60 Euro prpn including breakfast. Excellent location just off Praça da Liberdade (the main square), a few minutes walk from São Bento station, and about 15-20 minutes walk from Ribeira and the riverfront. This hotel has been going for 125 years, once a grand hotel, and still retaining its charm and faded elegance, with plenty of character in its decor and antique furnishings both in the rooms and the communal areas. Attractive room with wooden floor, good modern bathroom. Many beautiful seating areas around the hotel. No a/c in room (not a problem in April). Our room overlooked the street, but it is a quiet side street and there was not much noise, (the works mentioned a few months ago have now been completed). Breakfast was wonderful, a buffet with an extensive selection including much fresh fruit, served in a really attractive room with a relaxed atmosphere overlooking the garden. The reception staff rather lacked charm, this was the one minor point which could be improved; breakfast staff were pleasant. There is no restaurant, but there are many places to eat nearby and in Ribeira - we especially liked O Restaurante da Alzira in Ribeira. Good value considering its attractiveness and central location. This was our favourite hotel in Portugal. Well known and popular, so need to book in advance (we wanted to return a few days later but it was full). Porto is a beautiful city and worth spending a few days in, as well as being a good base for the Douro Valley and surrounding areas.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Paris. I Have to agree with the other guests that the breakfasts are certainly worth getting up for and the interior furnishings are definitely of another age. I Would definitely stay Here Again. As for Porto itself, we found the city very enjoyable and cheap from a British perspective. The Ribeira area in particular is a fascinating jumble of narrow winding streets. In addition the people were amongst the friendliest we have ever encountered on our numerous trips abroad. In conclusion I would definitely recommend both Porto and the hotel to anybody. Ian Sidlow.

Great location and great breakfast. I reall liked this hotel. Got lucky with the room and had clear view from top floor over the old city. Unbeatable price/quality. Unfortunately there were few small ants but they were later gone. That didn't disappoint me as I loved the character & personality that the hotel has.

Totally inaccessible with baggage while street is torn up for relaying sewer. Once this is competed, this is a fine hotel, in the grand tradition (though somewhat aged in furnishings), easy to find and offering central location for upper city sightseeing, easy access to riverfront sightseeing agea. Very good breakfast buffet.

Great location off main square and within walking distance of main bus routes. Hotel was great - like going back in time, real faded beauty. The dining room is amazing and the breakfasts huge. Also nice to have a garden to sit in in the city. Only down side was that we looked over a derelict storage shed but beyond that was the Tower. Hotel staff welcoming and friendly. Note that they say they do not take credit cards but they do! (just some restricted)

An otherwise excellent 2 night stay was marred by the whole street outside the hotel being dug up (not a factor under the control of the hotel). Thus we had to carry 4 heavy bags ourselves some distance over rough bomb site like terrain to a taxi both when we arrived and when we departed. The road works fortunately suspended during our weekend stay were potentially noisy and dusty. The breakfast was the best we have ever had in a three star hotel and the garden and common rooms very peaceful and relaxing.

A very nice central hotel. Cosy, old-fashioned, but clean and well-run. Can be noisy as it is in the middle of town, not a problem for me as I can sleep anyway. Garden for a city hotel is not often very much, but this was a positive surprise, actually a large garden with trees and fountain, where you could sit for breakfast. Some people complained of the service, but as far as I could see, the staff spoke English and French and were very helpful. Perfectly situation in the middle of town. A bargain for that price!

We are a couple and stayed for 2 days in the hotel. The room and the bathroom (shower) were very small, but we heard that the rooms are all the same. The breakfast had a good choice of food. The garden is beautiful, but not much cared for. It could be a nice retreat after walking through the town. The bar is not really worth visiting, opens not before 4 p.m. and there is hardly any drinks (no cold water!!). But the situation of the house in the middle of the old town is perfect, the furniture and decoration worth seeing, and in relationship to the price it is ok for a short stay.

The staff member was helpful to find activities and restaurants. Our room had a balcony with a beautiful view, a table and 2 chairs too. The hotel is a little old so it's smell humidity in the hall, but its clean and smell good in the room. Very good area. Right in the old city. The train station is very close, not even 5 minutes by walking. The breakfast was a brunch and it was very good. Lots of choices! Very nice room. Internet didn't work in the lobby.
