This is located in the middle of downtown Pompeii which is a loud place at night with lots of street noise. Nevertheless, our room was clean and exceptionally large for a European hotel. Large lobby. Free parking immediately out fromt worked well for us, but there are not too many spaces reserved fro hotel use. We had to leave early in the morning so can't comment on the breakfast. Had to wake up the front desk attendent to check out at 5:30 AM. In sum total, a very good value for the price. Clean.

Perfect place to visit the nice city of Pompei. Clear, large rooms, nice staff, good breakfast. Parking can be dificult in busy times (we went in February, there was parking right in the hotel, but number places is limitd). Bit busy location, but close to everything>

The hotel is an old building in the center of Pompei. We booked a "suite" in the hotel. It was a small room with a double bed, a chair, a desk, the table for the suitcase and no space for anything else! They call it a suite (and charge it accordingly), because in the bathroom the bathtub is equipped with jacuzzi. The lady that runs the hotel doesn't speak english, so she had her employees chase us and force us to eat in the hotel's restaurant every time we dared to pass in front of the reception. She followed them around and expected every answer to be translated in italian only to show with gestures her disappointment when we politely refused. We felt so bad, that the last night we decided to have dinner there. They presented us with a list and we ordered tourist menus. At the check-out the bill was too high, so I checked it and the charges of the restaurant were not what it said on the list. They charged the dishes separately, insisting that they were not included in the tourist menu. After I asked for the list, they admitted that they were wrong and cut off the 23 euros they tried to overcharge us. And one last thing for those traveling by car: They claim that one can park in the hotel's reserved area. We did that and they had us move the car back and forth three times during our two-day stay without any obvious reason, since there was a big empty space with no other cars.

Nice room, very clean. Unfortunately the large bathroom had only a hand held shower head in the tub with no surround, so actual showering was impossible, so ask for a stand-up shower. No view, although there are some rooms with balconies. Very quiet. Conveniently located directly across the street from the Pompei/Santuaria stop on the Circumvesuviana train line (do not use the Pompei/Scavi stop which is on the other side of town). The mini-bar refrigerator was not working, so any cold drinks in the room were unavailable. Nice breakfast, weak cappuccino. Rooftop deck very pleasant, but the hot tub was not even luke warm. Many restaurants, supermarkets near the hotel. Local merchants were very accommodating. We had a great dinner at the President Restaurant, hosted by Paulo, the owner; our meal was cooked to order with many personal touches making the event one of the more special occasions during our travels in Italy. We took Rick Steves' suggestion and contacted the genuine Gaetano Manfredi to give us a tour of the ruins; he was excellent. If you enjoy fine food and love history, Pompei is one town not to miss.

The hotel is located quite close to the landmarks visitors would enjoy! The front desk staff was extremely helpful and easy to communicate with. The only comment I would have for improving our stay ... a family room for four needs a little more space ... this room is probably better suited for a family of three. Thanks for the help and lovely hotel.

Location is superb for Circumvesuviana train to Ercolano and Naples (40 metres from the front door) and an easy seven minute walk from the Trenitalia station. About 500m from the back entrance to Pompeii ruins. The cathedral is adjacent. Hotel was quite satisfactory, although we note that the superior room in the ´4 star´hotel was almost identical in size, quality of furnishings, etc, to the standard room in a 3 star superior hotel we had stayed in immediately previously. But then the price was identical too! The positives: room was good size, bathroom was excellent in size. Good quality funishings and fittings. There are only 3 rooms on the top floor together with a nice terrace with views across to Vesuvius and the mountains behind Sorrento. Negatives were prety minor and tended to occasional fawlty towers moments. It was the bell boy´s first day and he couldn´t find our room (!!!). We constantly had the restaurant flogged at us, although we stayed away after trying two very pedestrian meals and found better food elsewhere.

The first night we had a room that smelt of smoke and only had a high level window. We were very unhappy and complained but they were unable to shift us until the next morning. The next room was excellent and what we expected. The staff were not well trained in terms of resturant services, but they were polite and attentive (too much) and the food was good. We would stay again.

Whilst the hotel room and meals were satisfactory, the taking of a shower proved to be something of an undertaking due to the absence of a shower curtain and a wall fixing for the shower head resulting in a gymnastic attempt at shwering whilst keeping the floor dry. There was also an almost total lack of storage space, no shelving either in the bathroom or room and wardrobe space largely taken up with a non operational safe. Our experience however was reasonable, the meals being quite good.

The hotel have not responded to several users comments about the unsuitability of the breakfast food. Cakes and sweets are not considered breakfast by most people yet they continue to serve these. On one morning there was no bread and on another no Croissants. This was maybe because the hotel staff regularly popped in for their breakfast too. The tea had to be brought from elaswhere and was always cold. There was no tea/coffee making facility available in the room. The hotel rating is no more than 2 star. Yes it was clean and presentable but it is superficial quality. The shower leaked all over the bathroom floor and there was insufficient space in the shower to turn around or place yourself under the water. The Restaurant never had any one use it - expensive and if breakfast was any indicater then it was also poor quality. Its location is an advantage and disadvatage - it is central to Pompei and near the ruins but on a very busy one way stretch of the road system that is continuously noisy. The advertised roof garden was closed and other facilities unavailable. The "manager" prowled around ordering staff quite belligerently. All the other staff were extremely polite and upheld their "helpful" reputation. The car parking is on the street outside the hotel on the busy one way road - fortunately none of the mad Italian drivers collided with it. In short - if you can find somewhere cheaper your probably going to be better off.

We found the hotel to be well situated right in the centre of Pompei and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a parking space in the street right outside the hotel. The roof facilities were not available at this time of the year, but the views from the roof were very impressive. The room was clean, tidy and spacious.

The staff was extremely friendly and immediately made us feel very welcome. The hotel is beautiful and the view from the rooftop terrace is spectacular. Breakfast was wonderful. Even though the hotel is right next to the train station and it was right outside our room, I never once heard a train. This was my favorite hotel on our trip and I highly recommend Hotel Palma. If I return to Pompei, I won't even consider staying anywhere else.

Our complaints are: Because the weather was poor we had to spend a deal of time in our room and the lighting was not good for reading. The shower cubicle door needed repair because we flooded the bathroom each time we used it. It had a huge gap so the water leaked through. We don't really need a television but ours didn't work properly

Palma Hotel was very nice, and I think it's probably the nicest hotel in Pompeii...nice location, close to the entrance of the ruins. Great roof top deck. If I ever go back to Pompeii, it would be a day trip, but if I found myself there for the night; I would stay at The Palma. One last note, if it's important to you; ask if room has a shower or tub. We had a suite, jet tub but no shower...would have liked a shower! Vancouver, B.C. Canada September 2007

Very friendly receptionist, room ok for the price (this is Italy!), bath room a bit old and in need of repairs (shower door had a broken hinge). Room was on street-side so we heard the traffic in the evening and at night. Maybe they have rooms on the back. Breakfast was ok and service very friendly. Conveniently close to Pompei ruins so can recommend on basis of price to quality.

I found Hotel Palma to be a great place as a base as it is very central to the sights in Pompei and the Almalfi coast. The Circumvesuviana train station is right across the street, the Pompei ruins are just 15 minutes away and you can use the train to see Naples, Herculaneum, Sorrento and from Sorrento take a ferry to see Capri. If you want to see the Amalfi Coast you will have to book ahead for a bus tour or rent a car or private driver. Plus after a busy day you can relax on the rooftop with its jacuzzi and lounge chairs with a view of Vesuvius and valley right next dor to the Santurio church. I would stay here again if I return to this part of Italy.

Very nice stay for a young family (x2 children). The informative lady from the Ukraine was especially helpful. The Jacuzzi on the top floor was a nice way to end the day and the location was superb for the station. Reserved parking was easy however we were slightly disappointed by the centre of Pompei, the variety of stores and quality of restaurants as the excellent (extensive) Roman heritage slight and Vesuvius are a huge attraction for visitors.

First ever trip to Italy, Pompei is the perfect location as a base from which to explore the Naples area. Most people, we believe, visit the Scavi for the day, but they must miss so much, as Pompei town itself, with its beautiful cathederal and central square, is a friendly place, with reasonably priced family run resturants and a genuine Italian atmosphere. The HOTEL Palma is ideally situated next to the railway station and just a few hundred yards from the square. The rooms are well furnished, air conditioned and very clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Although English is not their forte it adds interest to the trip. The roof terrace is the icing on the cake! Just sit in the jacuzzi lapping up the sun with Vesuvius as a back drop on the days when you need a rest from the sight seeing! Using the Circumvesuviana rail network we were able to very cheaply visit, Herculanium,Naples, Sorrento and Capri, not forgetting of course, that we were only a short walk from the ruins of Pompei were it is advisable to hire a guide. EU students are eligable to free admission to all sites of interest with valid ID so its worth making sure you have it on your person. Our 16 year old son got free admission, that is well worth remembering. Finally, I must mention that I left my mobile phone in the hotel room on departure, which was found by the cleaners and returned to me by post the next week, what more could you ask for? We will definately be returning to Italy and Hotel Palma.

The hotel is located right across the circumvesuviana, so if you come from Naples take that instead of the FS train which is about 10-15 min walk (carrying luggages). The staff is excellent and very nice. They helped us set up a day trip to the Amalfi coast and recommended us to an excellent restaurant in Sorrento.

We went to Pompei as part of our honeymoon trip to Italy. The ruins were amazing. So much of how the ancients lived still informs our modern way of life. The hotel is right off the train station (make sure to get off the right one) and located in the heart of the city of Pompei, and the main church. The hotel staff and restaurant were excellent. I preferred the location of this hotel rather than the ones by the other Pompei train stop near the main entrance of the ruins. It's much more tourist oriented there. Hotel Palma is by the church and inside the main city area, with restaurants and shops. A side entrance into the ruins is close to the hotel and other than no maps being given out at the side entrance, I liked it better. Pompei compared to the other cities we traveled to was inexpensive. However, if you're looking to shop and enjoy a thriving nightlife, this is not the city for you. I enjoyed our stay very much but because it was smaller quainter city, and of course, the ruins and Mt. Vesuvious.

The hotel is for sure one of the best places to stay in Pompei. The room was very spacious and had a parquet floor, instead of the common carpeting. The Scavi are in walking distance. Recommendations for a good restaurant have proved excellent. There was a parking space for our car and the employees were very competent and friendly. There is no hurry at breakfast, so if you come in the last minute you will receive everything without any complains. Not so good: the bed was a bit too small for two persons. The heating was too hot. But outside it was cold at that time, so it was possible to open a window.

It probably the only place to stay in Pompeii. Just a 2 minutes walk from the surprisingly pleasant town square and all the better restaurants. It has a feeling that the standards are being maintained - at a cost of staff nerves in some cases, but it means that you are getting a very pleasant place to retire to after a days sighseeing at the ruins.

After warning the hotel of a likely late arrival we were very grateful to see hotel staff literally sitting outside waiting for us, with a reserved parking spot right out front at 2 am. The breakfast was substantial and staff helpful as far as finding local spots and the Pompeii ruins are within walking distance. Also the hotel is only 1-2 blocks from the central piazza. Don't miss the Naples-style pizza at the pizzeria across the small piazza right in front of the hotel.

The location of the B&B 1/2 block from the rail station meant that we were able to walk there, even with our heavy luggage. Air quality was good, and the streets were less crowded there too. Breakfast was fine, and the room was always well cleaned. Staff at the front Desk were very able with directions, and printed us a rail scheduel when we wanted to go to Paestum. Tedisco, a restaurant with excellent food for cheap is just diagonally across the town square. The entrance to the ruins is conveniently near too. We'd stay again, without hesitation.

Excellent hotel. Two problems however: the imprecise directions given by the hotel caused quite a bit of panic -- not warning us to take the line which arrives at Pompei (Cathedral), we got off at Pompei Scavi train station, the usual destination for tourists, but a few km away from the hotel. By 6 PM there were no more taxis, so getting to the hotel was rather tricky, and took us an extra 90 min. THe other problem was the very high strung manager, who became very agitated when we got to the restaurant 30 min late, having changed our minds about dining at the hotel restaurant. However the food was very good and we recommend it. The staff were all very nice and efficient and the room was lovely. All around, a very good hotel.

This hotel is a paradox; it is clean, spacious modern and even well located to activities, restaruants and the main Pompei Entrance; however, it suffers from unwanted noise of garbage being picked up at 4:00 a.m. and the bad habit of the reception desk personnel being chain smokers within the premises. I don't recommend this Hotel for the above reasons.

This hotel was very nice and in an excellent location. We could walk to the "ruins" of Pompei and we were within a block of the "town square" where all the people (young and old)gather to converse, shop, drink wine, eat, shop, etc. The staff at the hotel had our room available aarly and we had a parking space for the car next to hotel. The balcony was another nice feature for sitting out in the evening with a glass of wine and watch the people. The breakfast the next morning was fine as well. This was by far the best stay we had in Italy and Pompei was a "fun" place to spend some time. Just one other comment...I think directions (showing streets on the website)) to the hotel would be helpful. We were fortunate to find someone to assist us in going the right direction, so we had no problems.

The hotel and service are very nice, though a bit expensive. Breakfast was good. Our only problem was that it was about a 15-20 minute walk from the Circunvesuviana Train Station that stops at the Pompei ruins (and the entrance near the Forum of the ruins). (It is across the street from another Circunvesuviana Train Station, but that station did not connect to the line that stops at the ruins.) Other than that,a nice hotel.

The hotel has been renewed. The rooms are very spacious. The quietness is OK except that the TV from the closest room can be heard if played loud. Breakfast is fine. Location is close to one entrance of ruins and next to the center of the town, which is very convenient.
