Convenient central hotel at a fair price

When I arrived, the hotel was full with a large group. I was given a very odd-shaped room (#32). It had a long hall leading to the bedroom, with the bath off to the right as the room was entered. There was a wardrobe with only 3 hangers. I had to get more from the desk. The hall inside had a door covered by a curtain. One day, when I came back around noon, my room was wide open. That door was open and there was a stairway behind it. It appears they kept some of their supplies on a shelf over the stairway. I did not like the idea that my room was left open, perhaps for hours! The TV was on a desk in the hallway, and the frigo bar underneath could not be plugged in if the TV was plugged in! There were also mosquitos in the room, but I didn't complain to the desk about it, even though I kept getting more and more bites every night. Hotel has no elevator. Also, I had problems getting hot water in my shower, and sometimes, hot water came out of the cold water faucet in the sink. The first couple of days, breakfast food was rather skimpy. However, after the group left, there were lots of pastries and yogurt and fresh fruit. I guess the others were getting there before me and taking it all! Pistoia is a wonderful town with a fabulous old city center. Hotel Patria was in a great location. City is also a good place to stay for day trips to places like Prato, Montecatini, Lucca, Pescia, even Firenze. There are lots of nice restaurants near hotel, but avoid the over-priced San Jacopo across the street unless you like very salty, bloody steak. They have no concept of well-done meat.

A warm welcome and public rooms have character. However, bathroom smelt of drains and room was slightly shabby. Bed was too soft and past its best. Location is great but if you have a car, parking is a problem. Breakfast was good.

Pistoia ist eine reizvolle, von Touristen nicht überlaufene Stadt. Günstige Ausgangslage für Besichtigung anderer toskanischer Städte. Gute und preiswerte Restaurants. Angenehmer Hotelaufenthalt. Freundliches Personal. Problem ist das Finden eines Parkplatzes.

10 minute walk to the train station made staying the Hotel Patria a great homebase in order to travel to Florence, Prato and Lucca. Frank and Sebastian were very helpful (english-speaking) and great hosts. Pistoia offers beautiful historic buildings, wonderful regional cooking, not overcrowded by other N. American Tourists. I loved that you had to work at your Italian off the beaten track. Good Value - Breakfast included.

The hotel is in the middle of the center. Friendly and helpful staff at the reception. The bath room is very modern, the room spacious, but has some defects: Heating didn' work.
