Quiet and clean, quite good restaurant.

A very nice hotel, with a good restaurant and outdoor eating facilities. From the restaurant view over Pistoia. Quiet surroundings but eay access to the highway. We stayed for a week. The only comment I have is that the swimmingpool is open to the public so it can be crowded. There is always a chair available but maybe not the one you wanted to enjoy the sunshine.

As the grand finale of our Italian trip this hotel was a magnificent choice, everything about it was quality.

Though we had made our venere reservation many days in advance, when we arrived at 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon, the place was locked up tight and there was no one to open the door. Nor did anyone answer the phone. We rang and we called and, after nearly a half hour, someone from INSIDE the hotel came and let us in. Once inside, we noted that there were maids at work both downstairs and on our floor: Why couldn't one of them have come to the door? The person who checked us in was abrupt and rather rude, as if it was our fault for being there at that hour. (Nowhere is it posted that Il Convento is closed at mid-day.) Nor could he find our reservation. When I showed the venere printout, he gave us a room -- one of the tiniest rooms I've seen in Italy, a country known for hotel rooms the size of postage stamps. Since Il Convento boasts of its spacious rooms, I couldn't help but wonder whether the tiny rooms are reserved for venere customers, inasumuch as we paid a rate that was much less than the posted tariff. Apart from its ridiculous size, the room was very clean and well furnished, with a good bathroom. A tiny television was provided and, though the hotel advertises the availability of movie channels, what they DON'T tell you until you're inside is that you have to PAY (from 7-10 euro, depending upon what you want to see) to use the movie channel. You also have to PAY 7 E to eat breakfast, and since there's nothing even remotely close by, you're pretty much stuck with that. For what we got, the place was a ripoff, one of those typically Italian bait-and-switch games. In the summer, when you can use the pool (I wonder if you have to PAY for that, too) and the grounds, it might be worth it, but not in winter. Il Convento hinges a lot on being in the Tuscan "countryside" and being an historical building, but then they make you pay more than it's worth to stay there. If tourists stopped frequenting places like this, maybe they'd learn to reduce their rates.

I very much enjoyed my stay at Il Convento and would recommend highly. One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in and excellent value for the area. Beautiful location. Best with a hire car as taxis are expensive.

Our welcome here was cold and unfriendly. The desk clerk did not even offer to help us with our luggage or show us to our room. He made us feel as if he was doing us a favor by allowing us to even enter the door of Il Convento.

The only real trouble is that you hear almost every sound in this Hotel. A child crying in a room somewhere down the corridor, people whispering in the corridor, every toilet visit of your neighbors etc. The reason is proberly the construction materials: stone and tiles. No easy solution.
