Staff - friendly, helpful, volunteered information about the city. We asked about the history of the hotel and the staff gave us a printed summary to read! We didn't expect that because we asked in passing. Room clean. Hot water available the whole day. We were even offered a room upgrade. All places within walking distance. Central station. Tower of Pisa. Excellent breakfast Excellent place.

Faded turn of the century old world hotel and such a treat to stay in such a heritage place. Service and surroundings were excellent but don't stay here if you like modern/minimal hotels - this place is hundreds of years olds yet still has good air con, showers and old fashioned service

I arrived on a late flight but was there in minutes from the airport and found the reception person very welcoming, even at that hour of the night. I would describe this hotel as faded glamour - it isn't super modern but it is clean and has lots of character. This hotel is in a good location for exploring Pisa quickly before moving onto somewhere else becauue it is half way between the Leaning Tower and the Central Station and an easy walk to both. I was a bit worried about sharing a bathroom when I found there was only one on a different floor, but it was empty when I needed it and clean. My only criticism was there was a lot of noise form a bar downstarirs which went on well into the night, so it wouldn't be great for a light sleeper

I was a little bit scared by some comments I read before to book, but I had a feeling that this Hotel would have offered something special and I was not wrong. Three words to describe this Hotel : History, character and elegance of a time which will no longer return. This hotel is NOT for "Facebook" generation...but for people who still have a mind to think, a heart to feel and eyes to enjoy the beauty Alla lettura dei alcuni commenti, prima di prenotare, ero molto scettico circa la qualità e serietà dell'albergo, ma qualcosa mi diceva che invece avrei potuto trovare qualcosa di magico e non mi stavo sbagliando.

This is a very nice hotel. We found a good deal and enjoyed the stay. Especially nice were the historical surroundings and the breakfast with good options. As this is a nice hotel, I had a feeling that the staff is not used to have backpackers like us around, and I think it might have shown a bit in the service. We were not dirty or noisy or drunk, but the older quests seemed to recieve slightly different service.

This hotel is located on the side of the Arno and is easy to find. The bus from the airport makes it easily accessible (a short walk on the way to it from airport, or right opposite for the return to the airport.) The rooms are not as nice as the public areas. We had no shade on the central light for example, just a bare bulb and we had to ask for someone to come and clean up some sticky stuff left on the floor (which they did promptly). There is a super lively cafe - good value and with great food, in a little square behind the hotel - La Vineria and that is a good reason to stay here. It is quite noisy because the road outside is busy. We had a side room, but the noise from the road was still quite loud.

A very old-fashioned hotel but attractive. Our room was very old-fashioned and small but very adequate for the purpose. Its floor was not carpeted. The public rooms are very attractive and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel's position right on the Arno is a bonus. The bed and the breakfast at 80 euros was excellent value. Go to eat at Le Repubbliche Marinare on the other side of the river.

One night in Pisa- This hotel is gorgeous! So many of the public rooms look like something from a film set in the 1800's. This history here is quite rich. I expected an older hotel to look dated and not so retro chic as it was! This beautiful aesthetic was in the lobby and many other rooms that you were free to explore. Piano rooms, telephone rooms, etc. Balconies on every floor you can walk out and admire the Arno River just below. The location is superb- being on the river is very romantic in the evenings--it looks like Venice or Florence but less crowded. There's a bustling piazza a few meters away which is great for drinking with locals at night. And in the day time you can easily walk to the main sighs in ten minutes. However, the actual room we stayed in did not reflect this style. It was a very simple, basic room. Not particularly romantic as you would expect seeing the lobby, the public rooms, etc. However, it was quite comfortable and even had a little air conditioner wall unit which was a very happy surprise. There was a small tv. I had gotten a very good rate here on Venere of 60 Eur for a double with a shared bath. But we had our own bathroom in the room after all! Love it when that happens. The breakfast was another big treat. The rooms used for breakfast are so charming and the Italian style buffet is quite good in my opinion. They made fresh cappucini to order (or whatever hot beverage you want) , delicious There was meat, cheese, cornetti, fruit, nutella, etc. The staff was very helpful with maps, calling us taxis, etc. The front desk felt like 4 star treatment, especially when I compare to staying in an actual 4 star hotel in Rome and getting rather gruff service at that desk. I did, however, notice a couple was arguing with the staff about not liking the hotel and wanting to cancel their reservation without penalty because it was their honeymoon and they weren't happy here.I was very curious, I almost wanted to ask them why they di

This hotel is very old, and has some lovely public rooms, but our room needed complete refurbishment, and peeling paint is not "atmosphere", to me. The service was very good and friendly, the breakfast was very generous, our room was spacious. We paid 150 Euros a night to have electrical wiring that seems dangerous; when I asked for a hairdryer and then asked to be shown where to plug it in, the young man suggested the bathroom, because the plug available in the room was broken - but he did bring a new plug. The bath was ancient, and drained extremely slowly. The toilet flush gave out. The television had 2 channels, even the Sky box had none in English. The woodwork was peeling. The furniture needed reupholstering. At 150 Euros a night for this, I thought the owners were laughing all the way to the bank. But the staff were very friendly, and the location is very convenient.

It was a really interesting building to stay in. There is a description of their history in the room asking for patience with the age of the building, but it's in a great location on the river (sad that we didn't have as great of a view) and there is a roof top terrace where we went to sit for a little bit one night although it was a little chilly. And it's right between the train station and leaning tower. (closer to the train station there is a great pizza place called Pancino's--cheap and delicious!) We just stayed one night and took the inexpensive way of a room without bath. There was a sink, closet, desk, tv, and big window in our room and we weren't far from the bathroom but the shower was up two floors..we're used to sharing though. The best part was the breakfast. We always travel on a budget and try to make the most of included meals and this was like waking up to a free market. Different cereals/granolas, brioches, individual nutella speads and pate, cheeses and meats, fresh fruit, yogurt, biscotti, sparkling and flat water, juices, quality italian caffe or tea that is prepared on request.. the list goes on. For the ritzier crowd, they have an aperitif hour as well (complimentary snacks) with cocktails for sale in the ground floor room.

This hotel is excellent. I can't understand the negative comments. In terms of price, quality and friendliness of staff and location i was very very happy. I would not hesitate to use this hotel again. I would say that the breakfast is slightly short on quality for the price pqid, and that rooms on the front of the hotel suffer from traffic noise and people noise. However, I asked to change rooms at it was no problem at all. The decor is tasteful and traditional, and the rooms very clean spacious and kitch without being tatty. It's 1à mins walk from that sation and as central as it is possible to be. The photos of the hotel in Venere are quite poor and don't represent the hotel well; it's muh nicer in reality. I loved it here.

Once we got to the hotel, it was fine but trying to get there with all the one way streets in Pisa was extremely stressful. It was fun staying in this old-world hotel, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone traveling by car. They have a tiny parking lot once you finally get there. If you go by car it is essential to contact them ahead of time to get driving directions. The staff was very pleasant. The room was very spacious, but the bathroom was tiny and very old-fashioned.

The first room I was given smelled so bad I asked to be moved, I am not sure what the smell was, like moth balls gone bad. The second room was not smelly, but through the night it got incredibly cold and noisy. I was lucky if I got 3 hours consecutive sleep. I ended up with 2 pairs of socks on, pyjamas, a caridgan and 2 blankets. The noise seemed to be coming from an alleyway. The bed was really very, very uncomfortable. It seemed really old and sagged badly. I have a lower back problem and the next day I was in pain. Breakfast was about the only good thing about the hotel, good range in the buffet breakfast. It is centrally located between the train station and the Duomo. The room was very basic. Really bad 1970's forminca furniture, old tiled floor which looked like it needed a good scrubbing and a tiny showerroom, which flooded when I used the shower and had to put a towel down to stop it overspilling into the bedroom. I think it was very overpriced for what I got in a town like Pisa, in comparison with what I had paid in Venice and Florence

The river front room was noisy, but we were aware of this issue when we booked. Our room was on the 3rd floor, and it wasn't a big issue, lower floors may. Room was quaint, perfect for one night; the bathroom could use an update, Only had a hand held shower head, would have liked a wall hook to make it hands free. The room was small by American standards, typical of other 3 star hotels I've stayed in Europe. Good breakfast buffet included and they have a lovely top floor terrace where they will deliver refreshments. Wifi in lobby area only for a small fee. Employees spoke English fairly well, and were helpful with recomendations and calling a taxis.

My wife and I stayed one night at The Royal Victoria and found the old world charm and antique furniture delightful. Our room was very clean and spacious and had a marvellous view of the river. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fine just don't expect to have the same breakfast you are used to at home. Unfortunately I can't say we had a quiet night, this was not the fault of the hotel but the noise of revellers in the streets outside went on until 3 or 4am. At 5am a street sweeping lorry started work and after that it was the morning traffic. The hot water in the bathroom was not very hot, however we still felt that the hotel was good value for money and we would definatley stay again, next time we would ask for a room at the back, hopefully quieter.

Well, i would say it was rather a Museum than a Hotel :P The First impression with the friendly welcome of the staff kept up to the end of our short stay at the hotel. Hotel was very neat and clean, full of antiques display, We liked it very much. Only 1 advice to others, do not use the phone in the room !!! I did not understand, how come they could charge me 50 Euros for 3 international calls for few mins? Its totally robbery. Anyway, the Garden at the 4th floor was very romantic. If i dont count the telephone bill, then the hotel was quite impressive and noteworthy.

We enjoyed our night here - it was such an interesting building, breakfast was excellent and it was about a 12 minute walk to the Leaning Tower. They looked after our bags and advised us when and where to get the bus to the airport - from almost outside the hotel, for 1 euro each, takes about 15 minutes if that. We had arrived by train from Florence the evening before and walked to the hotel, which was about 20-25 minutes and quite an effort with bags. Could have taken the bus if we'd known.

The hotel in regards to service and friendliness of staff, certainly lived up to our expectations. In addition, the hotel had lots of charm and history to it and was in many ways classy. There were a few minuses however. We payed top rate for what we thought was their best room. But apart from facing the river, the room was not too impressive. The rooms could need a renovation. Not that we used the TV, but it was tiny and generally hidden by the footboard of the bed. The shower was impractical and flooding the floor with every shower... Facing the river the hotel also faced a busy street with cars and tons of people on it late into the night. Some Sound isolation on windows and walls would be a good idea. :)

The hotel has its own charm and a friendly professional staff. The room was nice, the breakfast continental and quiet good. The interior of the hotel is worth a second look and the terrace on the fourth floor a real highlight. Being well situated close to the center of Pisa, our biggest problem was to find an acceptable parking place for the car, as we didn´t want to pay 25 Euros per night for a place on the hotels carport.

A good value hotel on the banks of the Arno, midway between the railway station and the main sites of Pisa. Very convenient for the bus to the airport, which goes from just outside. Staff were very helpful indeed. We opted for a room with a shared bathroom to save money at the end of our holiday. This was not as convenient as we'd expected (shower was two floors up, and toilet on our floor had no lock), but there seemed to be little demand for the shared facilities, so it was fine.

Nice hotel a bit old-fashioned, rooms more old-fashioned than public areas but clean and provided a really good buffet breakfast with lots of variety.

After two weeks in the Apuane Alps, we had a weekend in the Royal Victoria and we LOVED it. Great 19th century atmosphere, lovely rooms, friendly and very competent staff, great breakfast in the most atmosheric dining hall you can imagine, and all that for reasonable prices. The only hint to future guests, which I guess to be valid for all Pisa hotels: bring some lotion against mosquitoes, we woke up with bites all over...

La chambre que nous avons eue était vraiment petite et sans charme. De plus, la fenêtre de notre chambre donnait du côté de la place Garibaldi, lieu de rencontre des jeunes la nuit, d'où ma faible note sur le calme.

Great loccation, particularly if you had one of the rooms at the back which were very quiet. Wonderful public areas (we expected to see people in victorian dress), but the bedrooms themselves were more basic. The buffet breakfast was very good indeed and served in a lovely room by charming staff. Pisa is a great location for a few days - the leaning tower is spectacular and the baptistery and cemetery wonderful. Lots of great restaurants, churches and open spaces. The bus from the airport is straightforward and stops right outside the hotel. You can walk to the station in 10 minutes and go easily to Lucca and Florence.

The Royal Victoria is a wonderful, old and fascinating place. We booked a room with a view of the river and it was lovely to wake up and look out of the windows. The hotel is full of history and atmosphere and the reception staff were very kind and polite. The room was clean and spacious and calm. It was very interesting to walk in the many spare rooms full of historic paintings, pictures and statues. We had three lovely days and nights at the oldest and most interesting hotel in Pisa.

This is a charming hotel with a old world grandeur and elegance. Everything about our stay was fine, the rooms, the staff, the breakfast buffet with a large selection served in the beautiful dining rooms... I just don't understand why they are running what is really a low- to mid-range holiday hotel in what with a bit of investment could be a 4/5 star establishment!

We experienced a wonderful finale of our Italian holiday in this hotel. History is seeping out of its walls but comfort is applied for its visitors. Only the elevator was difficult at times to manouvre in because of its miniscule size. Our room at the front of the hotel gave us front row seats to the spectacle on the bridge, which we came to see, but it also kept us awake till the wee hours. We can recommend this hotel highly to anyone visiting Pisa and Lucca.

The Victoria is in a time warp and we love it. We paid 25e extra for a front room overlooking the river, well worth the extra.Good breakfast. The hotel is in a great position for access to both sides of this wonderful city. If you go to Florence be there by 8am! After 10am you can't move for tour groups. Good restaurants near the tower. Watch out for extras on the bill and check wine prices before ordering, one restaurant charged 2e for a glass of wine another 2e.

What a beautiful hotel, it was absolutely glorious, fantastically placed over the river and really good value for money. Just be specific when you book however because when you read the info it says rooms with Air Conditioning are available on request, we didnt ask for aircon and ours didnt work, it was very noisy where we were, and the only breeze we could get was with the window open.

Prebooked through venere and got a very nice room with aircon for 85 euros. We returned to the same hotel and hoped for a nice room again, but the hotel was almost full and we got a much smaller room with a fan for 80 euros. Due to a bit noisy neighborhood, we had to have the windows closed and the room got very hot and uncomfortable. The breakfast which was included in the price was real nice. The hotel was otherwise very beautiful with a large terrace on the 4th floor. The score on General review and Quality vs price is based on my stay on two different occasions.

The hotel was beautiful - a treasure trove of wonderful rooms to explore. Our room overlooked the river, which was wonderful, as we happened to arrive in time for a parade and boat race that only occur every four years! Breakfasts were adequate and the hotel was well situated, half-way between the station and the main attractions. We had a wonderful time, thanks to Venere and the Royal Victoria.

This was our third vist. Once with teenaged daughters, once with a friend and this time just the two of us. Each time we stayed in different rooms. The two rooms on the top floor next to the roof top terrace is probably the most spacious. The staff managed to manouvre the car through the market from the garage for us. Breakfast is excellent with fresh fruit ect self served in a beautiful dinning room. It is an elderly building with creaks but has recently been renovated and has wonderful memorabilia on the walls. It is neither the Hilton nor a youth hostel, but it is right on the river and a short walk through the main streets to the Tower. There is a museum on the opposite side of the river worth visiting, and it is interesting to take a long walk on both sides of the river.

A great hotel. The room was very large and my only criticism would be the smallish bathroom. the roof terrace was very welcome and a lovely place for a glass of wine at night. walking through the hotel you go through massive recepption rooma and it is like walking through a country house.

Our room was very large, light and overlooked the river. Although it was fairly basic it had lots of character. Perhaps our only complaint was that the shower recess did not drain particularly well and it would have been better with a screen rather than a curtain. A very interesting hotel with lots of history. It was very nice to see some of the rooms set up as they would once have been rather like a museum. There is also a small but very nice terrace area for guests. We had a very early departure so our breakfast was pretty basic - some packaged cakes, biscuits, coffee and orange juice. We would definitely stay here again, the hotel is in an ideal location and very easy to find.

Staff were pleasant but this is an expensive tired old hotel which needs a lot of money spending on the bedrooms. The management seem to use "age and character" as an excuse for poor standards. A lot of the funiture is just old and shabby, it is not antique.Breakfast was very average. It needs a complete revamp, and it can still retain its character.

The room was basic to say the least. The door wouldn't open and the lock had to be replaced, the furniture was old - not charming old, just old except for the cheap melamine bedside tables. The tiny shower was horrible and the general feel of the room something akin to a retreat house in a convent at triple the price. On complaining we were told that it was our fault for having booked a standard room! At 80 euros a night (including the 10% discount) we were just thankful this was only one night. The contrast was more evident as we had just spent 5 nights at 90 euros a night in a hotel in Bologna with a gorgeous suite and luxury bathroom incorporating its own TV. We are frequent travellers to Pisa for one night on the way to the airport - sure we can do better next time.

This is a beautiful old building with lovely high-ceilinged rooms, in a perfect location on the riverside, convenient for the railway station and the tower (both about 10-15 minutes walk). We had a very nice double room with en suite; the only slight negative might be on the bathroom which was perhaps a bit small and, well, had only a shower not a bath. Breakfast was good by continental standards I would say.

The Royal Victoria's location is very convenient. Santa Maria della Spina church, Domus Galilaeana and Campo dei Miracoli are all in walking distance. We had booked a standard double room but upon arrival we were told we had been upgraded to a better room. The room was spacious with a very high ceiling. The excellent public rooms and the museum-like interior are worth seeing. The breakfast was very good and service was excellent. The hotel was a charming and memorable place to stay.

We loved our vaulted ceiling with its painted panel, the tiled floor, the traditional furnishings. Bathroom facilities just fine. Stairs and hallways delightfully antique. A wonderful old building! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good. Riverside location very pleasing, and convenient for historic centre. Inevitably noisy on New Year's Eve, otherwise our room was quiet.
