nice and enjoyable stay

This was my first visit to Pisa. I stayed at this hotel because I thought it would be really interesting to stay in a converted monastry and not your typical hotel. I arrived at 1 in the morning and was given my key and directions on getting to the elevator. I got a room without a bathroom for 60 euros because I was only staying the one night. 60 euros seemed a bit expensive for what I was getting, but still it was a good stay. However, I couldn't seem to find a communal bathroom on my floor that was unlocked. The next morning I went down for breakfast right before it closed and there was still an excellent assortment of pastries, fruit, meats and cheeses (which would have been even better if I'd woken up earlier). They allow you to leave your luggage as you sightsee, which was nice. It is a fair walk to the tower and can be difficult if you're not used to the small side roads.

We stayed twice in one week at Santa Croce - Monday to Tuesday and Saturday to Sunday. The first night was very good- clean and quiet - and I would have entered 8 and 9 in the ratings above for everything. The second night, the hotel was full and we were given a grubby room at the front. Obviously the beds and bathroom were clean but the walls were in serious need at a repaint and the areas around the handles and switches were dirty grey and chipped. All night a dog howled opposite so it was impossible to sleep. When I mentioned this to the staff in the morning it seemed to be a problem that was well known but nobody seemed interested in doing anything about it. However, to end on a positive note, breakfast in the cloisters is wonderful. I would return to the property, but only on the condition that I had a room at the back of the cloisters.

Very pleasant atmosphere. The walk to the main attractions of Pisa is nice - if you break it up with a visit to the excellent art gallery. Get a taxi back.

Exceptional environment in an old convent. It was worth the stay. Nevertheless it could have been a much warmer experience (restaurant?, furniture in rooms).

Really beautiful and peaceful hotel. It was an ancient monastery that has been nicely refurbished. Room was plain but clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Lovely cloister with a bar to sit at on the evening. Only trouble was the air conditioning device (it was a bit noisy). Anyhow, I would come back again and definitely recommend this hotel.

Dissapointed as our room for 1 night was "bumped" by the hotel, we arraive to be told that we were now staying somewhere else! We ended up staying in a single room rather than be palmed off somewhere ele. Poor service from the reception team. Real shame as it is a great hotel with lots of character, excellent location, good breakfast.

We booked here for two nights and left after one. We were given the choice of a room for the disabled or a small cage like room with no windows. The water from the shower flooded the bathroom and the remote control for the tv did not work. This is not really a hotel, more like a hostel. The site is used by the university, they have offices and students attending classes. There are no facilities for guests and the staff had no interest in helping out in any way. Just to get them to open the gate for the car park was difficult. Rooms well air conditioned and quiet. Walking distance to centre of town. Lined up for breakfast with coupon, was nice sitting in the cloisters.

The location and the building (an original XV century monastery) are wonderful. I booked and stayed in a cell with no bath, so I decided to accept some discomfort, which was absolutely tolerable. Breakfast was good, sitting outside in the patio very pleasant, and the free park availability a good plus. The wireless connection was not available in my cell, and was weak also in common areas. This is the only point needing improvement (a few more antennas would do the job). For the rest, it was a wonderful stay.

Lovely old building but the rooms and public areas are looking a bit tired/in need of a face lift. It seems to cater for the conference/student/university market and the general hotel facility rooms are very basic. Breakfast only is catered for. The area it is situated in is close to the city but again very run down, walking back through the graffiti sprayed streets is not that pleasant. The staff are english speaking and reasonably friendly. To the back of the hotel is a kindergarten, so pretty noisey throughout the day, street noise is pretty bad at night, with the added suprise of the convent bells pealing early on.

Santa Croce in Fossabanda is a former monastery of the 14th century. The rooms are not luxury quality indeed, but OK, and the atmosphere of the location is very beautiful. I recommend the hotel and would return to it whenever I will come back to Pisa. One or two public computers with internet access are missing, but would be fine.

We only stayed one night in Pisa. The hotel was a short, perhaps 10 minute, ride from the airport. The place is clean and austere, new bathrooms...they have a simple breakfast which was adequate, and the staff were helpful and nice. They had a van we took to the leaning tower area and they picked us up in an hour for a fee.

The hotel was lovely, although we didnt really get to see it in daylight as we arrived at 11.30pm and had to check out at 6 am. There was no problem arriving so late and checking out early, we paid in cash in the morning on leaving. The room was spotlessly clean and the hotel seemed really quiet although it was strange the bathroom was bigger than the whole bedroom but this was also very clean. I go to pisa all the time and would definatly stay here again.

Mostly liked the atomosphere of the old cloister. It´s really great in a city like Pisa where you are surrounded by history. As other travellers mentioned rooms may be perceived as "sparse", but I didn´t mind because it fits the atmosphere of the old cloister. Also found breakfast fine given that in Italy it´s usually not large. I would definitly like to stay here again and would recommend it to anybody. It´s a real gem. And price/quality-relationship is extremly good. Bear in mind that the hotel is not direclty in the city center, but an about 20 mins walk (slow walker) takes you there. And it´s only about 10 mins per car to the airport.

I know Pisa well and also many of its hotels. Santa Croce is an excellent choice, especially if one wants to avoid the crowds. The location is good, i.e., quiet and romantic with easy car park, altough it is a 15 min walk to Ponte di Mezzo (the center of Pisa). The location, i.e., the buildings of the convent converted to a hotel, is impressive. Facilities are clean and sufficient. It is a pity the staff, except cleaning ladies, has little interest in their jobs. They seem to be jobbers, who await the end of duties. In sum, a unique setting that could be first rate if a bit more professional effort were made with service.

Excellent location, peaceful and cool - quiet and efficient air-conditioning. Easy parking and short walk into town. Room decoration and bedcovers very spartan. Would be more welcoming and with some pictures or wall hangings, and re-painting of ceiling and walls (water-stains in our room).

We enjoyed our stay immensely, it was just as peaceful and calm as expected. And the restored building and courtyard was very beautiful. Good quality breakfast, and although there was no dinner available, the staff ordered pizza for us, which was fine. We chose it for quietness, but missed some more shops or eating places in walking distance. Maybe they were closed because of holidays. A bit difficult to find by car from the airport, but well marked with signs once we got near. We Norwegians liked the air-conditioning

We've been there one night and left from Pisa Airport the following morning. For our purpose it was OK, but not spectacular. The pictues look nicer than the rooms actually are. (its more "hostel"-style than hotel). Big plus is the absolutely secure (walled-in) parking area! Big minus is the non-existent sound-proofing for the rooms. You hear everything from neighbouring rooms! Breakfast was quite good and included. Price/Quality was acceptable, but I'd rather stay somewhere closer to the center next time. City center is 15-20 minutes walking distance.

Charming hotel, ca. 10 mins to walk to the city center, 15-20 mins to train station. Taxi to/from airport 8-12€. Due to monument preservation rooms aren´t changed much compared to their former state, so no carpets, extensive insulation, rooms are therefore quite noisy - neighbors can be heard as well as anyone walking in the corridor. So don´t forget earplugs! Would overnight there again.

Our stay made a nice change form the regular hotels we'd been using. Very atmospheric and good quality breakfast in the sunny courtyard area, and free parking made the higher price (than we had been paying) worthwhile. Our room was in one of the oldest part of the building. It was clean but small and by modern day standards 'dark'. However it was full of character, very quiet and the bed comfortable. It will help if you can (forgive me) enter into the 'spirit' of things. A late night drink over looking the central square and breakfast in same the location are memorable. It is also within walking distance of the railway station and the city centre and an easy taxi ride from the airport.b There isn't a host of places to visit/eat & drink in the immediate vicinity but for a short stay - its different!

The room is a bit noisy as I can hear people walking and dragging luggages at midnight. In terms of location, feel it's a bit far from the city center, esp. when it's not easy to get a taxi from the street at evening time. But the receptionists and service people there are friendly and helpful.

I arrived late at night, but I was still a little surprised that I had to lug my heavy bags across the courtyard and find my room myself in the dark. My twin bedroom was spacious and clean but shabby and in need of redecoration. Whereas I accept that the building is a converted convent, the decor is particularly spartan for the price in my opinion. My room was located on the ground floor in an annex to the rear of the main courtyard - maybe the rooms overlooking the courtyard are nicer - I don't know. The courtyard is absolutely beautiful - and is the most striking aspect of the hotel. It was delightful to sit under the cloister for breakfast. Breakfast was fine, without being spectacular. If I were to stay there again, I would be more choosy about the room. My preference would be to stay in the Hotel Victoria on the banks of the Arno.

This place has a very peaceful atmosphere. 13th century convent converted into a comfortable hotel. I would have liked it to be a bit closer to the main sights, but apart from that, it was a very nice place to stay.

Although not on a main route, the Hotel Santa Croce offered good value and service. The staff were very welcoming, and courteous. The main attractions of Pisa were within walking distance, and it was enjoyable stay. Pisa is a lovely city, and we will be back.

We stayed in St. Croce for a longterm Weekend and enjoyed it very much. The hotel is absolutely reproachless and the relationship between price and quality is nearly great. The rooms are quiet and clean, with exception some single rooms in front near the street. The cleaning personal does their work unnoticed and thorough. About the breakfast there is nothing more to say !! The Taxi from the airport to the hotel costs € 6.00. To reach the old center of Pisa you just have to walk no more than 10 minutes, but overall you can take the bus to reach the station or the busstation. From there you can take the bus No.2 to Marina de Pisa and direction Livorno. It costs € 1.70 to Marina.Between Marin and Tirrena ask for the Raggae Bar. Dont't miss to visit the little Pizzeria nearby.Leaving the hotel you've to turn right and right again. At the corner between Via Silvio Luschi an Via San Michele Degli Scalzi you will find it. Only 2 desks inside and 3 outside, but the best pizza in Pisa, also for takeaway. The result of all is that we must have to visit this nice hotel and locations. (Forgot the leaning tower!)

This is probably one of the most unusual B&Bs - the photos tell more. We loved it because of exactly that. The location a few minutes walk outside the town wall is no problem if you don't mind walking a bit. Breakfast may not be everyone's cup of tea (lots of pre-packaged cakes in addition to toast), but we loved eating it in the back garden. So if you're after something a bit different this is the place to be.

Some pro's some con's The pro's; very nice building with real atmosphere, refreshing after too many standard rooms and standard hotels, friendly staff, good bathroom. The con's; rather small room, on inside court should have been quiet, but for a rockconcert in the neigborhood, lasting till well after 2:00 in the morning, sleep was interrupted by numerous mosquitos, so bring a repellent, late arrivals kept us awake to 03:30 by a lengthy and very loud conversation in the inside court (where are the times that you could throw the contents of your chamber pot at them?) Airco did not work. Overall, a very recommendable place, fun to stay, we would certainly go again.

no bar for Drinks or coffe. Only a beverage automat. But personal couldnt change for coin. Bad service in a lovley location with dark poor rooms for this price. The windows in the room are not convienent to open an very small.

Very nice hotel. We were 5 people (whole family) so we needed 2 rooms. Best price/quality ratio for our whole Italy trip. I'd definitly stay in this hotel again if back in Pisa. BTW, very nice restaurant nearby, the Bela Napoli.

The hotel looked exactly like the pictures. It was a very peaceful place. The breakfast is simple but very filling and you get to sit in the courtyard to eat which is great. Contrary to some other reviews the staff were very helpful, happy to give out maps and recommend places for dinner and aperitivos along the Arno. Hotel easy to find and only about a 10 minute walk from 'down town' and the train station. (Pisa is not that big) The hotel is not on a main road but if your room faces the road you do hear some noise from the Vespa scooters that zip past. Italy is full of scooters there is no escaping them....

Everything was entirely satisfactory. There was no danger of missing breakfast as the hotel bell sounds at 7.30am. We did not see this as a problem however. Breakfast in the cloisters in the sunshine accompanied by birdsong was definitely a highlight.
