Hotel Reviews Alessandro Della Spina

GB, Oct 2009
A fine hotel with smart, helpful staff and spotlessly clean with good secure off road parking. It is close to the station though, which means it takes a good 20 minute on foot to trek into town, maybe half an hour to get to the campo dei miracoli. I guess Pisa is expensive for hotels, it still seemed a little pricey despite the good quality and warm welcome. We'd consider staying again, but would seek out something cheaper first.

Indignant and shrill office staff misrepresented WiFi and then attacked customer queries about it. A fine facility in a great location ruined by angry and poorly trained staff that seems not to understand that normal hostels, let alone hotels, now offer reliable internet at little cost to their customers.

The hotel was excellent. We chose it based on reviews on Venere, particularly for the quietness, and we were not disappointed. The room was spacious, clean and very quiet - so much so that one morning we nearly missed breakfast we slept so well. Air-con in the room worked well, and was definitely required, it was very hot in Italy when we were there. Some of the trattorias in the area are not so good, but the receptionist gave us directions to two excellent restaurants, each within 5 minutes walk - Lo Schiaccinoci and Galileo. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The area itself is not perhaps the most exciting (but maybe that's why it's quieter than some parts of Pisa) but it was safe enough and very handy for the railway station from where we were able to take trains to places like Lucca, Florence and Viarregio for the beach. If we are ever in Pisa again I would definitely choose this hotel.

everything was very good, great welcoming, rooms very comfortable, great decoration. We spent an excellent stay at your hotel. We just had some troubles to find your hotel, it's not very well indicated, it would be easier with more sign posts.

very spacious, pleasant room with large balcony. clean, well appointed bathroom. overall, a very pleasant stay - we were very pleasantly surprised by the room and the hotel in general. Breakfast, however, is very continental. Also, the hotel is near main city station, therefore, the area may seem a bit shady at night. however, we had no safety/security issues while walking at night. The city center/tower is 20 min by foot.

This is an excellent small hotel very close to the centre of Pisa. Excellent place in all respects. Pisa is not an easy place to drive in, but as long as you follow the signs for the hotel you can find it - it's all one-way! Parking in the hotel grounds was also easy. It is a 5 minute walk to the main shopping street and about a 15/20 minute walk to the Leaning Tower. It is about 5/10 minute walk from the station. It is on the right side of town for the airport. I would definitely use this hotel again for a short break in Pisa. Ideal in every way. English-speaking staff.

Very nice small hotel with large clean rooms. Location is within walking distance to leaning Tower and shopping district. Small parking area in back of hotel very convenient and secure with CCTV. Streets surrounding hotel not particularly interesting or clean but hotel site very nice.

First visit. Very convenient to central trail station. However, some specific directions to station would have been helpful. We got in at about 10pm and wandered a bit in the dark. Very easy to get there once you know the way. The desk manager sent us to a great local pizza place down the block for a late night snack-it was all locals and very good value. Very nice breakfast. Good value. We would definitely stay there again.

Very good hotel to stay in Pisa. 5mn walk from the train station (very convenient when you come from/go to Florence!), in a quiet street. 10-mn bus ride from the airport. 15mn walk from all principal attractions of the city. Good welcoming and the personnel is always willing to answer your questions. Beautiful and spacious rooms with all facilities. They deserve their 3 stars!

Hotel Alessandro Della Spina was a good choice for us. We were travelling by train with several medium sized bags and wanted to be close to the station and not too far from the main sites, this worked well,we both enjoy walking and the 20min walk to the tower etc was easy and enjoyable and gave the opportunity to see many interesting buildings and places on the way. The Hotel was very good, the staff helpful and mostly spoke good english. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

I stayed in Pisa 7 nights, traveling alone. It is a nice city with about 2-3 days for sightseeing and /or relaxing. I used it as a base for day trips to Siena, Lucca and San Gimignano. The hotel is a ten minute walk to the Pisa Centale train station. There are some good restaurants nearby.

This is a very nice small hotel in a nondescript neighborhood several blocks from the train station. My room was 90 euros which I thought was a very good price. The bathroom was large with a nice shower. There was space for shaving gear etc. The bedroom had a TV with BBC World News, no CNN. A good inexpensive restaurant was two blocks away. The Cathedral and leaning tower are a 5 euro cab ride across the river.

We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Alessandro Della Spina. The room we stayed in was quite large and the bathroom was an unusual shape but very clean and spacious. The staff were all very helpful and friendly to us. The surrounding area was clean and safe with good eating places close by. Only thing I could fault is the breakfast which were very very basic for the price we paid. However that did not put us off and we would recommend this hotel and would stay again if we were ever in Pisa again.

We only stayed in Pisa for one night and this accommodation was perfect for us. It was close to the station and only about a fifteen minute walk to the leaning tower. We chose the hotel as a base for 3 days to explore Pisa and the surrounding area. On the plus side, the hotel was close to the train station, was clean and relatively comfortable. Breakfast was pretty limited but just about sufficient to start the day. The area immediately surrounding the hotel is pretty grim - with few bars and restaurants to relax in after a day sightseeing.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the room was super and it was very nice to have a balcony, although not much of a view. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the hotel was perfectly presented and clean. Breakfast had a good variety, although it would of been helpful if the juices had been labeled. The red was the orange juice. The location was within close walking distance of the train or bus station and close to the town centre, ideal for what we wanted. It was a little bit further to walk to the tower, but not an unacceptable walk. If I ever needed an overnight stop in Pisa again, I would choose this hotel.

We only stayed one night- prior to early morning flight. Pisa probably deserves nore than an overnight stay. The historical centre looks more interesting than the main shopping street which was a great disappointment. The hotel kindly recommended and made a booking for a restaurant in the older quarter nearer the river and this was excellent. This is a small hotel and does not have any frills - but for a short say it was fine. Clean, and air conditioning was very effective.

This hotel was quiet, clean and friendly, ideal for the three days we spent in Pisa. The room was smaller than we would have liked and there was no bath in the bathroom but the shower was ok. Breakfast was sparse and although there was a bar they did not have gin and tonic. The area around the hotel wasn't very nice but despite the negatives, we would stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Having stayed at the Alessandro della Spina last year we were disappointed with the attitude of staff. Arriving slightly early at 1.15 check in 2pm we had to leave the cases in the lobby area and told to come back after 2pm. This was fair enough but could have been said in a better manner. On going out on the next morning after handing in the key were shouted to on leaving the hotel to ask what time we intended leaving the hotel. We had every intention on leaving well before the 12 o'clock deadline and again was a valid question but could have been done in a friendlier manner. Would psooibly look for another hotel next time in Pisa

The hotel was extremely convenient to the train station, very quiet, and a short walk to through nice shopping streets to the Tower. This hotel was ideal very close to the railway station (no more than 5 minutes walk, turn right outside the station, along two blocks and then up two block, hotel on right hand side near end of second block)and was quite grand inside, beautifully decorated, and with lovely wide corridors. Our room was on the first floor and was large, with air conditioning, and the en-suite bathroom was large and long, and contained toilet, bidet, sink, shower, shaving point and hairdryer. Breakfast was from 7 until 10 and was well stocked and regularly replenished to the end. Staff were polite and friendly and spoke good English. The were more than happy to look after our luggage after we had checked out, until the evening when our train was due to leave for the airport, allowing us to sight-see unencumbered for the rest of the day. I would recommend this hotel without reservation.

Nice hotel in an OK neighborhood, not much to see or do in Pisa besides the area around the leaning tower. Hotel was clean and offered a nice breakfast. It was impossible to keep the shower from leaking out onto the floor. Personally I would recommend stopping in Pisa for two to three hours and then moving on but if you need to stay here this is a good choice.

Stayed 1 night in Oct 07. It was an easy walk from the station which was our main criteria as we were heading for Pisa airport for an early departure the following morning. I am sure many of the customers do the same thing which is a shame as this hotel is very good. The surrounding area as you walk from the station is a bit rough (as in most cities) but the hotel is an oasis of calm and light. We walked to the main sights in about 20 mins which was quite an interesting route. The room and bathroom were excellent. The breakfast buffet was OK. I would recommend this hotel for a longer stay.

This is a very good little hotel, with friendly and effecient staff. It is well appointed and ideally located for arrival at the railway station - five minutes walk- and only minutes by taxi from the airport. However, be prepared for a fairly long, if interesting, walk to get to the main attractions such as the leaning tower. On arrival it seemed to be located in a rather run down area but in the end this did not detract from the overall quality of the hotel. We did not feel unsafe getting around at night - but this is a difficult perception to evaluate when travelling in a strange town. Looking for a good restaurant not far from the hotel? We would recommend the Galileo - ask the hotel for directions as tourists would not find it easily in its off main street location The Italians eat there and it is very good value for fine food and service - booking may be necessary and you should have your phrase book handy as the welcoming staff were not all well versed in English.

We stayed here for one night. It's just a 10 minute walk from the train station which is really convenient for train connections across Tuscany, and for getting to Pisa airport. It's about a 20 minute walk from the Leaning Tower and main attractions. Although the area is not the best as it's close to the train station, we felt quite safe. The hotel was very clean, modern and the room quiet and comfortable. Staff were very welcoming Breakfast was continental as in most Italian hotels, and was good. I'd recommend staying here and would stay again!

Very clean and comfortable. Solid furniture. Liked the electric shutter. Would have liked a remote control for the Aircon but that's being picky. Breakfast substantial by Italian standards. We were very pleasantly surprised when we got into the hotel, the outside doesn't seem that wonderful but it is hidden behind unimposing buildings. The interior of the hotel is wonderful, the rooms were probably the best we stayed in whilst in Italy. Spacious, clean, very nicely decorated and comfortable. Secure parking is an added bonus and the walk to the tower etc wasn't very far at all and enabled us to see more of the centre of Pisa on the way.

What a brilliant stay! I was a little worried about booking this hotel as it is quite close to the train station. However, even though the area is a little rough around the edges, my friend and I never felt unsafe walking alone in the evenings. The proximity to the station (5 minutes' walk!) proved to be an immense bonus as we were able to hop on trains to Florence and Lucca with a minimum of fuss. A taxi from the airport late at night cost only €8. As for the hotel itself, the twin room ensuite was huge, spotless and very quiet. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, especially Chiara who had been assisting me via email before our arrival as well. Breakfast was continental, tasty and filling with excellent espresso on demand! The only negative thing I can say about the Hotel is that it would be nice to have a bar where clients could have a drink after dinner, since we did not want to stay out too late by ourselves and there were limited restaurants etc in the area. Pisa itself isn't much to rave about, but as a base to explore Tuscany, this hotel is a MUST and I will definitely return. GRAZIE!

We were a family of four, two adults and two teenagers. The hotel was lovely, my children's room (twin) was very pretty and spacious but the double room allocated to myself and my husband was palatial! Huge and very nicely furnished with windows on two walls and a terrace around two sides. It was the Magnolia room - worth asking for! The location was not so good, although it was in line with what we expected, given the comments by other visitors - the area mainly residential and not very scenic, but OK. A longish walk to the main areas of Pisa and the Piazza dei Miracoli but we didn't mind. All in all a good hotel for the price and I would definitely stay here again.

Room was modern, well designed. television, safe and mini-bar all in one slim cabinet, very neat. Electrically operated metal exterior screen over window kept out the strong sun. Bathroom largish, mostly tiled, spotless, recently fitted out I would guess, and water hot. Air conditioning efficient and quiet. Breakfast adequate. The hotel is within walking distance of the station and well situated for a short visit to take in the tower (take the no 4 bus from the station if it's too hot to walk it all). There is an excellent Italian restaurant within 100 metres or so which name I have forgotten (begins with B). The hotel will know it.

this is a really lovely hotel ideally located for both the bus and train stations. It is about a 20 minutes walk to the Tower but is very pleasant. This is a beautifully maintained hotel with helpful, friendly and professional staff. It is in a quiet area only 10 minutes from the station. Most (if not all) rooms have a balcony which is a bonus at this price. The surrounding area is a bit bit shabby but safe. All in all an oasis and we'll stay there again if we go to Pisa.

The hotel is a short walk from the station, (bus stops are even closer). We had a little difficulty in finding it as not quite where shown on map. First impression outside okay, and on a small quiet street. First impression inside very clean, very good decor, very tranquil, nice greeting. All public areas are lovely, with good attention to detail. Walls are rather thin, so a bit of noise intrusion from other guests. Everthing worked well, and staff were helpful and courteous. The breakfast spread was good. We enjoyed our two night stay and had no problems getting around Pisa to see the sights. It's a very nice town and would very much like to go again and we would stay in this hotel if possible.
