Stay in gereral was expected. However thought wifi was free, but there was a nominal charge. Only bad thing was the furry mold growing on the walls of the shower... A very small shower - not a healthy situation. Front desk staff was very nice and helpful.

The hotel is not as modern as I expected, in fact it is an old hotel. However, this was truly compensated by its marvelous location, which is very close to the Tower of Pisa. The surroundings of the hotel is also very nice since it is protected by ZTL zone so not much traffic (as guest of hotel you can enter the zone).

VERY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY AND LOCATION SUPERB AND ROOM VIEW WAS AMAZING WITH TOWER AND CATHEDRAL IN FULL VIEW.CLOSE TO AIRPORT AND CENTRAL STATION WHICH MAKE PISA AN EXCELLENT STAY FOR CONNECTIONS TO VIEW FLORENCE, LUCCA (AMAZING) AND SIENA. ALSO CONNECTIONS TO MILAN (BIT FAR) AND ROME.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND ALSO THANK U VENERE FOR ALWAYS BEING TRUE IN DESCRIPTIONS.

Grand in this case is more a name than a category but the hotel was up to its four star grading. It was ideal for visiting Pisa as it was just two minutes from the tower and we did indeed have a view of the tower from our room. The Cathedral site itself is wonderful but as it costs £25 per person to visit the buildings themselves they need to be. This hotel provided a good breakfast and had a good restaurant though many cheaper ones are just yards away. The public areas were good and it was possible to sit and relax in the hotel.

Their roof top terrace was under renovation but they allowed us to use it anyway. Amazing views of Pisa. The hotel is so close to the leaning town you can almost touch it! We used the garage parking which we felt was safer than the street. Better directions from the highway would have really helped. Our stay was July 2010

Pros: Location, front office staff, decent breakfast, very easy and cheap to reach from the airport or train station Cons: Hotel needs some renovations, room could be cleaner Overall positive stay in outstanding location, next to Leaning tower.

The hotel was well situated, but not at all sound proof. We couldn't sleep because of the street noise, as well as the hallway noise (we were next to the elevator). The furniture in our room seemed worn out and the bathtub was rusty; the hot water was barely trickling from the shower. The breakfast was mediocre. It did not deserve the four stars.

This hotel was right next to the leaning tower and easy walking distance to everything! Ideal if you want to be in the center of things, but be SURE to ask for garage parking because there is nowhere to park. Room was clean and confortable and the staff was friendly.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The room was cleaned perfectly every day. The air conditioning was very welcome, but a little noisy at night. The location could not have been any better, with the leaning tower just outside our window. Then there was the most friendly barman Bob, who was the closest to a typical English gentleman, that we have met in Pisa.

Fantastic location (you could even see the tower from our room)and yes the view from the roof terrace was breathtaking. Unfortunatly it was only April so breakfast wasn't on the terrace but fortunately it was beautifully sunny so we spent a lovely couple of hours reading in the sun up on the terrace chairs. Until the volcano ruined our homeward plans we agreed it was the most stressfree short brak ever - the airport is so close, Lucca was perfect and close enough for a lovely day out by train, relaxing restaurants very close by and a great hotel - Perfect Pisa!!

We stayed in a very comfortable room with a fabulous view of the Duomo and the Leaning Tower. Staff was efficient, service was good, breakfast was tasty and everything worked smoothly. We would definitely stay in the same hotel should we return to Pisa.

We were pleasantly surprised that the Hotel looked like the pictures...although there could have been a better picture of the outside of the hotel. Our window looked out at the Dome and the Tower...fabulous! The room was clean and cool. The English at reception was excellent.

Our room/bathroom at this hotel was huge for European standards. The staff was more than nice-even found the best time for us to catch the train. After a week in Italy, this was the best place we stayed and I would return in a heartbeat!

This is without a doubt the worst 4 Star Hotel that I have ever stayed in! The rooms were dark, dingy, tiny and filthy. We refused to stay in the first room we were allocated which was dark and dingy and had a view of a wall - which was about a foot away from our window! We were then allocated another room, which was marginally larger and at least had a view - that is if you get the plastic shutter that covered the window to actually stay up. The ceiling in the hallway had a hole in it, through which you could see filthy pipes and daylight - stuff of nightmares! Oh and I know the Italians aren't famed for breakfast but the wrinkled ham, stale bread and undrinkable tea and coffee were a new low! Please, please take our advice and don't stay here!

I was extremely dismayed to find that my last night and most expensive room booked during my 7 nights in Italy was the most disappointing. The room was small and dark, the bathroom with open shower made the floor wet and slippery. The breakfast (continental) disappointing from a 4* hotel. I overheard a lady booking an additional night which was 51 Euro cheaper than mine! I thought I was getting a great deal from Venere!

This property is listed-even inside their hotel- as a 4 star hotel. Which century? I would give it no more than a 2 star. Greeting-polite acceptable-but not warm or friendly. No assistance or offer to help with bags to the room. Room large with some 1960's musk oil scent piped in to cover up who knows what! Room faced the street and for such a small town atmosphere, auto noise was loud all night. Bathroom clean but shower felt like it was stabbing you with every pulse. Plastic cups were so cheap thin and brittle that they cracked when you took them out of the plastic. Left the air on all night to drown out the street noise and about froze. Blankets in the closet were gross and dirty looking. Slept fast and prayed for a earky wake-up call just to get out. No bellman to help in the afternoon arrival and definitely no help at 5:a.m. departure. Elevator doesn't have much longer life! Requested a taxi at 4:30=took forever for the front desk to get past the annoying phone wait and request cab service.Take this property off your list or demote it to no better than 2 stars!!

This hotel is totally run down. The room smelled. It hasn't been updated since the 1950's. The paint is peeling from the outside and the sign is falling off the roof. Yes, it may be close to the tower, but it was the worst hotel I stayed in during my one week stay in Italy. Be warned.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the absolute worst hotel I stayed at during my entire 3-week trip through Italy. Upon revealing that I was traveling alone, I was immediately relegated to second class citizen status. I was sent to a horrible, dark room, with dirty walls, window A/C, and a fabulous view of the hotel's dumpsters. All of the wood around the desk had been ripped apart by people using the desk as a botle opener. The hall carpeting looked like someone had vomited all over it, and the walls were hideously dirty. I honestly could not stay in a room like that, and went down to the front desk to protest. I was given a slightly better room, with a view of the Duomo, and parquet floors instead of the filthy carpeting. Regardless of my being transferred to a better room, I should never have been given the first one. I had purposely booked a double room precisely because so many hotels give single travelers the worst room in the house. Still, the hotel does not, in a million years, deserve a 4-star qualification. It is dirty, terribly run down and all of the staff, from the front desk to the management, needs to be fired and replaced with more competent people. It is truly surprising and disappointing that such bad treatment of guests is becoming so normal in Italy.

The general external appearance of the hotel is not 'Grand' at all. The building needs painting and the rooms were clean but needed refurbishing. The night we stayed there, it was a fiesta so the room was noisy but well situated for the tower. The breakfast was only ok with cheap orange juice and the worst coffee we have ever tasted ! The only good thing about the hotel was it's proximity to the tower and the cathedral. Scarcity of taxis was also a problem in terms of trying to find one from the station to the hotel and from the hotel to the airport. The hotel should ensure that guests are aware that if they are leaving on a saturday morning that taxis are not allowed in the same street because of a market taking place.

What a dreadful hotel. How can it be a four star rating? Possibly, its conference facilities? In a 1970s time warp - dirty carpets in the corridors, net curtains in the room were grey and the shower didnt really work. Only good thing it was within a stone's throw of the Duomo, baptistry and tower. Don't stay there.

This was our 'splash out, last night in Italy' hotel. The service was fine and rooms were clean and well equipped. The location is excellent and we had a good view of the Leaning Tower from our balcony. The roof garden is just a flat space but with great views. Our room fronted onto a busy street but the lilting Italian conversations going on below (we were on the 5th floor) were not too intrusive.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the hotel as I have read some mixed reviews on other websites. But I neednt have worried as we had an absolutely brilliant stay. The main thing that makes this hotel so perfect is the location. From our window we had a prefect view of the tower and the rest of the square. The walk from the front of the hotel to the square took 2-3 minutes. The other thing to mention is that the hotel has one of the finest barman Ive ever met, if your ever in Pisa stop in and have chat with Roberto! The hotel itself would probably be a 3 star in Britain, some of the decor looks a little tired and being so central there is sreet noise at night. But none of this detracted from our stay and I'd reccomend the Hotel Duomo to anyone.

Excellent hotel, although you do pay for the (superb) location. It is as close to the Leaning Tower as the description suggests, and there are some decent restaurants nearby. Bit of nightmare to get to by car through the one way system, but we timed it perfectly and parked right on the street next to the front doors! Breakfast is above average and staff were very helpful. Request a room on the front with a view if possible, and try and get up to the roof terrace at night for the fantastic views of the Tower and surrounding area.

I chose this hotel for its proximity to the Leaning Tower and it's airconditioning for July. It was perfect. The bathroom was poor and not clean either, the shower flooded the room- but it was beautiful pink marble. The whole place is a little oldfashioned but I liked it. The staff were good and apart from no proper desserts the restaurant wasn't bad at all and the breakfast was good. Pisa is a funny sort of place and this hotel made the best of it apart from the Tower which is stunning.

The hotel is a little worn around the edges, but overall the accomodations were very good. The mattress was firm but comfortable, and the room was clean. Plenty of towels, and large ones, too. Full breakfast in the morning was more than ample. The view from my room was of a neighboring building's rooftop, but, hey, the hotel is only about a block from the Leaning Tower. You can't beat the location. At 105 euros, I think it was a good deal, and I would stay there again.

The hotel is very conveniently located people at the reception were not very friendly and not very prompt, they were arguing between them all the time. they did not have any maps of the city or places to visit, it is a very beautiful city, i could have stayed for a month or even more. I do not know how do you give stars to a hotel, but we had better 2 star hotels in Florence. The price was very expensive, for what you get, breakfast was good, waiters were ok, not extremely friendly but serve you with courtesy.

Great hotel. Ideal location for vacationing. I will stay there again if I am in Pisa. We did have one problem - When checking in, the key to our room did not work, so they moved us to anohter room that was not as nice. We noted later that our original room seemed to be occupied. We were only there one night, so it was not a big deal.

The primary benefit of this hotel was the location. We were put into a top floor room overlooking the Duomo. Also, top floor terraces gave beautiful views of the Duomo/Leaning Tower and city. The walk is a few meters. The hotel could have provided better Italian coffee for breakfast services. True double beds would be nice for couples (instead of twin beds placed together - typical in Italy). If visiting the Duomo Plaza in Piza... this is probably one of "THE" places to stay - assuming you request a room with a view on a top floor... If returning to Piza we would stay there again.
