Concerning archaeology, there are many areas worth to be visited, such as Cava Barbieri and Romitorio, Buca delle Fate and Grotta del Beato;
Regarding nature, famous are the Creta Senese and the wide open spaces, ideal for hiking and biking.
Historical highlights are the medieval castles (Monticchiello, Spedaletto, Castiglione d'Orcia) and lots of churches (Pieve di Corsignano, the ancient name of Pienza, Sant'Anna in Camprena) lying in neighbouring areas.

It is easy to reach the top of the Amiata mountain, where in the fifteenth century Pope Pio II loved to spend his time and where he bought the white fir-wood girders to build Piccolomini Palace and the other buildings in Pienza. Together with the architect Rossellino, he tried to realize his humanistic dream of an ideal city: Pienza, the same place, where Gloria's purpose today is to welcome her guests, offering them an ideal accommodation provided with every kind of comfort.

My wife & I stayed for one night and were entirely satisfied with the hotel which is on the main road into Pienza but was quiet whilst we were there. It is located within easy reach of the historic town centre and provides good value for money

This is a great hotel for exploring Southern Tuscany. It is about a 5 minute walk from the historic walled part of Pienza. It is on the main road heading toward Montepulciano, but my room was on the back side facing a quiet area of houses. My room had a door opening onto a nice patio area with a table and chairs that I think is shared with the 2 adjacent rooms. The two ladies working the front desk are very charming, friendly, competent, and helpful. I had a very spacious room with a very comfortable bed and reliable hot water in the shower. Good breakfast of various salumi, cheese, and pastries. Venere needs to update the location map as I was pleasantly surprised at how close it is located to the historic walled part of town. Also be advised that the free parking is not on premises but either in the free lot across the road, or in the surrounding streets in a residential area. I never had to walk more than 100 meters from my car to the hotel though. All in all an excellent hotel for exploring Pienza, Montepulciano, Montalcino, and the rest of the Val D'Orcia region.

We have spent 2 nights in this hotel. Good rooms with a very enjoyable private garden-terrace. Very hearty welcome from Mrs Gloria Bernini and family who have been extremely helpful when we met problems with our rented car. The only drawback is 'potential noise' from the other rooms or from the steet since insulation is unsufficient.

The hotel offered fine service with very comfortable, clean rooms. Breakfast was particularly memorable with very attentive service However, the hotel is situated on a main thoroughfare and rooms facing the street are subjected to noisy traffic.

From Florence, from the A1 motorway: exit at Valdichiana and proceed in direction of Torrita di Siena until reaching Pienza.
From Rome, from the A1 motorway: exit at Chiusi-Chianciano Terme. Proceed in direction of Chianciano and Montepulciano until reaching Pienza.
From Siena, from the SS2 Cassia road: drive to San Quirico d'Orcia. Then take the SS146 road to Pienza.

By train
The hotel is 40 km from the Chiusi-Chianciano Terme railway station.

By airplane
