The hotel was an excellant value for what we paid and the hotel location near the escalater to the city center was very good. Our room was quite large and very quiet. We only stayed one night but we were very satisfied with all aspects of our stay. The breakfast buffet was very good except that the coffee out of the machine was not very good. As have others on this site I would recommend to the hotel that they invest in an alternate method of making their coffee. However, that one item was the only negative thing I have to say about our stay at the hotel.

Located conveniently at the main bus station of perugia, this gem of a hotel is worth ever of its four stars. the room we got was spacious, breakfast couldn't be more complete (though the bread selection might not fulfill every wish of a german ;-), and the htel offers a quiet, small basement pool with attached fitness room for relaxation after your endless walks trough perugia's city. it's location, slightly outside of the main hubub of the city, is actually a great advantage: the hotel automatically becomes starting and ending point of your walking rounds.

Desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Perfect location for exploring all of Umbria and Perugia especially. Quiet locale. Beds alittle firm, room decor more like a 3 star but very clean. The best european breakfast buffet I've ever seen/had, included with rates.

The staff at the front desk were fabulous and helped us settle in as quickly as possible when we turned up early. I had booked a quadruple room but were allocated adjoining double rooms which was much appreciated. The breakfast was great and the kids loved the hotel. The pool was just a little too cold for me!

We enjoyed the hospitality of the staff at the hotel. We stayed 4 nights in Perugia. It was our first time in Perugia. My parents had a room and my husband and I had one with our one year old. My dad stated he killed two cockroaches in his rrom. However, I did not see any in ours. The breakfast was decent, but the towels smelled like lamb. It was weird considering it was a 5 star hotel. It was a 10 minute walk to the center.

Wonderful hotel with great access to the center of town. The staff was excellent and the breakfast was great. Our room was a little small, but it served us well. We had a nice view of the foothills. When I saw that our hotel overlooked the bus station I was a little concerned, but it was really a non issue. Using the escalator system we were only 5 minutes to town center.

I highly recommend this hotel which is located at the base of the old town. By keying in the hotel's location on our GPS we had no problem driving straight to this property. Parking is very convenient since there is a large public underground parking structure across the street from the hotel. Reception was highly competent, knowledgeable and accommodating. Communicating in English was no problem. Our corner room was tastefully decorated and had two balconies with view. The room included wireless internet and a bathtub with jacuzzi. Compared to hotels Rome, Florence and Venice, the price is a bargain. Approximately 10 years ago the hotel, built in the 50's, was shut down for two years and completely renovated, consequently the interior throughout looked new and modern. The old town center was reached by walking one block to a subterranean series of public escalators that traverse the remains of an old fortress that was built over centuries ago. This was an adventure itself since you can wander about the lighted remains. At the end of the maze you arrive onto the main street of the old town. Although we only stayed one night, the experience couldn't have been nicer.

As someone who lives and has travelled extensively in Italy I am always wary of the four star tag as it generally leads to raised expectation and disappointment. Whilst this is an Italian reality that to a certain extent applies to the Sangallo I was still pleasantly surprised by its location, comfort, welcome, and value for money.I found the room clean comfortable and as modern as I have ever found in this bizarre but beautiful country. The staff were helpful and polite though I rarely needed them. I found the pool and gym a welcome bonus and certainly beyond criticisim...it is rare to find an olympic sized pool in Italy! Best of all for me was location. Whilst it is not in the centre it is as close as you can get and the journey on the escalators was quite genuinley a highlight for me. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to explore Perugia. If you are disappointed here Italy will be lost on you. For value for money versus comfort its as good as it gets and I mean that in the best way possible. All things considered I'd think twice before booking anything else in this small but very fun city.

A good choice for driving into Perugia... easy access..also easy access to the tourist area itself with none of the noise...but if you want to be in the center of the action stay at the Brufani Palace.Bkfast really good...staff very helpful as well at the Sangallo.

This was my 4th stay at the hotel (since 2007) and again we got the room number requested - which I think is a great plus (you really feel they care about you). The only problem was the remote control, with which we had "a hard time"! Overall a very pleasant stay - will be back !

Exceptional property very modern and updated business class hotel as represented. We had very technologically sophisticated rooms with large wall mounted flat screen LCD TVs, excellent individually controlled reading lights (3 sets) over the bed and a key controlled electrical and climate control system-we were very comfortable and it was hot! and very unusual modern shower jacuzzi tub combo in the bath. Friendly English speaking staff went out of their way to be quite helpful and restaurant recommendations were spot on. Nice buffet breakfast in a pleasant restaurant. These folks try hard to make you feel welcome and help with ideas for visits to surrounding sights such as Assisi and Deruta. It is quite evident the people here are proud to be Umbrians and Perugians and are proud of their city and surroundings. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. Parking is across the street in a very clean nice covered lot, but safe crossing is easy through an underpass. Its a hike up to the old town, but 5 sets of escalators make it much easier, and you are then just like the locals, who park in the same lot and walk up to go to restaurants and cafe's. The lobby is a showplace of all the excellent products produced in Umbria, with tips on how to find what might interest you. We drove out for day trips and this was quite convenient as parking came with in and out privileges-hotel desk clerk walked to the cassa with me and helped us set this up. Really enjoyed staying here and would do so again in a heartbeat. For those without a car, the main bus depot is out the back door and across the street, over the parking lot.

On arrival (a couple of hours early) I was able to book in and freshen up in my room before going out to explore. The staff were very friendly and helpful and gave me excellent directions and a map to follow to the centre of town. Perfect positioning - a very short, 5 minute journey up the several escalators and into the underground city (which was amazing - if I'd stayed elsewhere I may have missed this). Up the final escalator and into the centre of the old town. I was blown away by Perugia - the scale of the buildings, arches, towers, huge and imposing, alleyways and steps, up and down, hidden passages and amazing views. I picked up an excellent guide in the hotel foyer and followed three of the suggested walks in the three days that I was there. Plenty of stops for refreshments - good food at good prices and plenty of wonderful gelaterias!!! I was able to pop back to the hotel after my daily walks, spend an hour or so in the pool (the water jets were bliss after a day spent on my feet), shower and nip back up into town for another gentle stroll, an aperitivo and some dinner. I was really happy with the position of this hotel and on leaving, was pleasantly suprised to find the train station to Umbertide (my next stop) was another easy 5 minute walk away. I'm planning my next journey (with my husband and kids this time) and would definately stay at the Sangallo again.

Good hotel with spacious rooms. Able to park our car at a nearby parking station for 9 Euros. Hotel is located on a busy intersection at the bottom of the old town centre, so it was easy to find, and easily accessible by escalator. Reception staff kindly placed a bottle of complimentary champage in our room as we metioned it was our honeymoon at time of booking. Not great value for money, but suspect that was due to time of year (July - during Umbria Jazz Festival). Breakfast had a good selection of cereals, bread, cakes, eggs, cheese and ham, but no fresh fruit, only tinned. Only disappointment was with the in-room amenities - no shampoo was supplied. For a 4 star hotel the basic soaps provided seemed a little cheap, but only a minor complaint.

At check-in clerk was abrupt and condescending. Not informative or helpful. At check-out staff was extremely rude and kept us waiting after starting our check-out procedure, stopped to help Italian guests who were after us. Very poor front desk staff (worse we experienced in Italy. Food at breakfast buffet was very mediocre for a "4 star" hotel and served only canned fruit (no fresh fruit in Italy in May?) We would not recommend this hotel to anyone

Reception was a bit cold initially. My Venere reservation indicated check-in after 13:00 but the reception clerk informed us that it was after 15:00 and the rooms were not ready. Fortunately, a room was cleaned up quickly and we were permitted to check-in. No further issues with other members of the staff. Breakfast was good. Location was good next to the escalators (4 escalators) to get to the old city level.

This hotel was perfect for my needs. It was close to the train station where my train to Perugia stopped, and right next to the bus station that I left from. The hotel staff were very accommodating. I arrived early and they switched my room to enable me to check me in early. The staff were very helpful with travel arrangements in the area. The restaurant, however, was a disappointment and I would not recommend it. It did not feel like Italy and I doubt an Italian would ever eat there!

We stayed just one night here, but would have stayed longer if time permitted. Hotel location was only a short walk to the escalator that took us to the heart of the old town. Our room had a nice view. Room and bathroom very large and nice. Room had great amenities including web hook up and web-TV for those without a laptop. Bathroom had a AC converter. The only downside I could find here was the parking which cost 9 euros and was a bit of a walk. The Hotel exceeded our expectations for the price we paid.

I thought it was an added extra touch that when we drove in - the front desk offered to take our car to the parking lot - as it had been a long day and they wanted to make it easier on us. Thanks again for the extra added touch. All employees were very friendly and the location was great. As far as the low rate on quality of service--We did have a problem with the rather poor AC. Ours was broken, but even when repaired it was not very cool.

This is an American-style hotel. It has large, clean, modern rooms and is well located for visiting the historical center of Perugia. The breakfast is excellent. There were two annoyances, although neither would prevent me from staying at this hotel again. The electrical system is the most peculiar one I have ever encountered. I eventually found out that it is necessary to close the bathroom door in order to turn on the bathroom light. I never found out how to turn off the bathroom heater (short of turning off power to the whole room). The parking is reasonably priced, but although I am used to tight Asian and European parking lots, it is one of the tightest I have ever seen. The parking lot control system failed with my car inside and a technician had to disassemble the gate to let me out to catch my flight out ofr Rome which was departing in 4 hours.

Good quality hotel at a good price. Not in the very centre but only about 10 mins walk to the main street and all the restaurants and main sights. It's a curious walk to get there, up four escalators and a short stroll inside the city walls. Rooms are OK, compact rather than small. Reception staff are very helpful. Breakfast is not so good. It's a reasonable buffet but the service is variable and the bread could be used to shoot elephants! The hotel is surrounded by roads, but the traffic is not too busy and the rooms are quiet. Overall we would recommend the hotel for it's value.

Closeby the 'scala mobile' and the old town, room was extremely spacious and the bed enormous, really good. Also, very friendly staff, parked the car from the front drive and bring it back for departure, helpfull to give tips and info for sightseeing, etc... really good! Only drawback is that there is no bath tub in the bath room, only a shower, and if you are a smoker it may be advisable to ask for a room with a balcony so you can smoke outside.

The map on the web site is misleading. The hotel is not actually in the old part of the city but is easily accessable to the old city by a series of escalators which is quite an interesting way to approach the city. The hotel is quite modern. If you are seeking "old world charm" this is not for you. If you like all the modern comforts, this is it.
