About Hotel Locanda della Posta

During the second half of the 18th century, the 'post office' entrusted with the collection and transportation of people and documents, was situated in the famous Marchese Palace. Within a short time, the building became the Locanda della Posta, the only hotel in the city of Perugia. It's noble origins ensured it quickly became regarded as the highest expression of Perugian hospitality. Famous personalities of the time, when stopping over in the the city, always stayed at the Locanda. In 1786, the hotel was host to the poets Heinse and Goethe, in 1802 to the philosopher Humboldt, in 1824 to Frederick II of Prussia and in 1833 to the author Andersen. Of course much has changed since then and the hotel has recently been completely renovated. But the 'old world' charm, the exclusivity and the uniqueness of the Locanda della Posta remain.

We enjoyed our stay in Perugia very much, it is such a nice town. Staff at the hotel were very helpful. Be warned about taxis at the train station! It should cost about 10 E from the Perugia station to the hotel. Try to negotiate it out before getting in the cab.

Location is perfect, but in my estimation this is no longer a 4STAR quality hotel. The place shows signs of wear in both the rooms and the common ares---lobby is horrible. Breakfast was a pleasant experience. Most front desk personne were thoughtful, but understaffed. Arrived late in the evening and had to drag our heavy bags up the entrance steps.

This beautiful hotel in the best part of Perugia (for visitors) was a terrific value for the money. I was delighted and very comfortable.

Directions to the hotel cold have been better for a person with a rent a car. We had GPS and it took us through a maze till we got completely lost in the back alleys. Simple directions to the main square, park the car, and walk 1 block to the front door.

The hotel was all rather 'tired' and shabby

The staff was extremely unfriendly and unhelpful, especially compared to many other hotels in Italy. There was a cold feeling about the hotel and its staff. It is also VERY difficult to drive to the hotel as it is not on a street and there was no advance information given to us as to where to park. It turns out you have to park temporarily in a piazza and run to the hotel to have them call the garage people.

We had a delightful stay at the Locanda della Posta in Perugia. The front desk manager, Francesco, was helpful with recommendations to local restaurants and provided useful feedback on expressions in conversational Italian. We would stay there again on our next trip to Perugia. Steven Schlossstein Princeton, New Jersey ***

The location was great straight out onto the main stret. We had a room overlooking the Corso the double glazing meant there was no problem with noise.

Very hard to find with car. No street names posted , it took an hour to find once at town. Otherwise it was good. Great location to the escalator.

The room which did not face the busy street was quiet. The location was good. Beyond a cursory answer, the staff was not eager to provide help with getting around and dining. Everything seemed to be too much trouble. The entrance and adjoining rooms were elegant but not welcoming. No one seemed to use them.

I was in a single room (105) which was small and dark. When floors above me flushed or used water, the drain pipe was outside my window. That said-- others I talked to said their rooms were bright and airy with a lot of space. The breakfast room was small, but the attendent Maria was friendly and helpful. The lobby area is small and the furnishings and rugs a bit tired.

La Locanda della Posta is a fine hotel, with extremely qualified personnel. There were very few guests I imagine, because we did not see anyone in the breakfast room, and the result was a bit gloomy. The breakfast room is lovely, but I was sorry that all the room had been redone in a modern non-descript style. However, our general experience was excellent.

La Locanda was, in fact, better than advertised. Centrally located, well-kept and run with a warm and inviting sense by all concerned, La Locanda was first-rate and great value for the money. The breakfasts, by the way, were generous and full of variety.

We thoroughly enjoyed out stay at the La Locanda della Posta and found the staff to be outstanding. The hotel was charming but a bit tired and could use some refurbishing. The location of the hotel was incredible and we even extended our stay one night. We would highly recommend this hotel.

It was an excellant facility except for the lobby and the bar which were very poorly presented. it needs refurbishing, and somebody to take care of the guests while they are there. I think you need more staff to take care of the guests.

the property is on a pedestrian road - the parking is poor and the noise is loud.

It was just a little difficult to find the hotel. There were not signs near the hotel. I wished the more detailed guidance about location on the site. But, on the other points it was a very nice hotel! The stuff was very kind.

We drove up and saw the sign to the hotel but could not find the hotel from the piazza while in the car. Finally my wife got out and walked down the Corso Vanucci. This information would be helpful for drivers.

had booked a twin room, got there and there was one bed, they said they had no other rooms available. one towel in the room. were unable to get anything other then an extra bath mat. when leaving in the a.m. elevator did not work and we were on the 4th floor, one person is disabled so that was very difficult. overall we were not happy and that is too bad because the location and hotel itself were lovely.

Although right on the Corso Vanucci (great for people watching) the hotel is small and quiet with lots of character and charm. The staff are lovely and make you feel very welcome! You get a real sense of the history of the place (Goethe and Frederick II of Prussia stayed there).

This was a splendid hotel and one of our favourites in the Umbrian region. The rooms are spacious and stylishly turned out and it is well positioned. I would advise anyone visiting by car to contact the concierge in advance or on arrival so he can assist you with parking that is provided by the hotel; a bonus in a hill town like Perugia. It definitely gets a thumbs up.

This hotel is in a great location and we had a wonderful room on the backside of the hotel as we requested. The major drawbacks were the lack of service to get into and out of the hotel with our heavy luggage. No one seemed to be available to help us get up the entryway stairs when we arrived but magically appeared after we had accomplished it outselves.

While the hotel staff were friendly, very helpful, and knowledgeable, the hotel itself was a bit run down. In my bathroom, I had to rig up a system with an elastic hairband to get the shower head to stay upright. I informed hotel management of the problem when I arrived, but it was not fixed during my 3 day stay. My hairdryer went out on the first day, and that was promptly fixed however. The hotel is in a pedestrian only street, conveniently located and easy to find, but both the websight and the hotel could have been clearer about how to handle temporary and overnight parking issues. The breakfast room is sweet, with an old world atmosphere, but the bedrooms are definitely modern in feel. In terms of pricing, the double rate seemed a bit high for late November. The first 2 nights, I was by myself, and the room was just under $100, which seemed very reasonable for the accomodations, but the third night my husband joined me, and all of a sudden, the same room jumped to $170. Overall, it was a mixed experience: the staff were great, but I'll be trying out a different hotel for my next visit to Perugia.

Wonderful, once we found the hotel. Had a hard time finding our way to the general area, then finding the hotel once we were there. The staff was very helpful in recommending a restaurant/making reservations. The tile painting in the bath was beautiful. Bathroom was very spacious.

The room we had was spacious but had dark wall coverings, which made it a bit gloomy, especially in the day time. The bed was very comfy, but the noise level from the street was bad. We had to keep the windows closed at night and use aircon, but I would prefer just opening the window if it's hot.
