Hotel Pinhalmar - Peniche

one night on 05-02-11. Spacious and clean rooms. Close to beach walk and nice pool area. 5 minute drive to town and restraunts. About 1 hour drive to Lisbon/Lisbon Airport. The staff is friendly and helpful and provided a very early breakfast for us. Down side is that sea veiw rooms get can get the smell of a nearby water treatment facility. The woods view rooms were lovely.

We had only one night in Peniche on our way from Porto to Lisbon in a rented car. The Hotel Pinhalmar is a modern, spacious, clean property located on the beautiful rocky Atlantic coast with a view of the lighthouse and a short distance to the beaches, shops, cafes and restaurants. It is operated by a Portuguese family who recently returned from Canada. We had a reservation for a double room with a "forest view" at 65 Euros including breakfast but agreed to upgrade to a "ocean view" for 10 Euros additional. That was a mistake. There is a sewage treatment plant located about 100 yards from the ocean side of the hotel and the sea breeze carries the odors right into the room. The offending plant cannot be seen as you approach the hotel because it is down a steep hill from the roadway, hidden in a ravene. The hotel management claimed that the odor was due to an unfortunate combination of repair work at the plant plus unusual wind patterns at the time, and that this was the first time this had happened....Hmmmm. This accounts for our low rating on the hotel's surroundings. Despite this issue, we had a nice day exploring the cliffs and relaxing on the beach and watching the surfers and windboarders. A tall sailing ship came into close view. We later enjoyed a good fish dinner and dessert at a small restaurant close to the old fort. The next morning we shopped for souvenirs and explored the old fort and its museum before pushing on to Lisbon and home to Philadelphia.

lovely hotel but a stiff walk from the bus station!!!!

We will certainly go there again. Location outstanding, staff great. We loved everything except the coffee at breakfast which was disgusting.
