Hotel Reviews Roncevaux

Excellent situated if you come by train (as we did) - just take the funiculaire, and it is the next hotel from the top station. Near to tourist office, Chateau, city centre etc. We got a room towards the street, which is best in summer (it´s the north side of the house), but not really quite. If you have problems with stairs, there is one irritating step before you get to the elevator.

The help and competence of the front desk was of the highest quality

Room furniture and decoration are a bit basic and old-looking, but comfortable and practical. The staff were really kind and welcoming. Extremely well situated to visit the town centre.

A well-located, friendly, and efficient hotel. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff are wonderful.

The rooms are spacious, clean and the one we had was quiet. The only negative thing to say about the hotel, was the parking facilities, as they where working in the backyard, it took us some time to find a parking space. Nice staff at the hotel.

The icon corresponding to this htel at the web page is misleading. It has nothing to do with the real place. The staf is very nice and kind. This is the best point of a regular hotel.

Parking is extremely difficult in the centre of Pau - this hotel has its own courtyard car parking which is a big bonus. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious (if in need of redecoration)and a four-poster bed was a nice suprise. Well positioned and overall value for money.

An excellent hotel. Free parking in the centre of a french town! Very helpful staff. Not easy to find from the internet map (not helped by road works into the centre). great value for money

Front desk staff were excellent - friendly and welcoming. Breakfast good. Standard of decor in rooms and some public areas is deteriorating (lights not working/decor starting to look poor)and money needs to be invested to preserve hotel standard. Cleanliness in the rooms was not bad BUT - check the top of the lift mechanism to the right side of the lift on the third floor. It was very dirty and I do not think this area has ever been cleaned - what other areas are the same? Would we stay again? Perhaps - but not until we had checked with other hotels in Pau to see what was available for a reasonable price.

The Desk Clerk on Saturday and Sunday 29th and 30th of October was the most helpful hotel employee I have ever encounted. She gave us advice on what to see and do in Pau assisted us with forward booking and even parked the car for us. She showed utmost friendliness and willingness in her service to help the guests.

We stayed for our anniversary and found the hotel and staff excellent. The only down side which would of had a greater impact had we been travelling with our children would of been the noise between the rooms. A guest who was coughing woke us early. This said it was a nice place to stay and everyone we met was friendly.

We were pleased by the hotel's close proximity to the station and the enjoyable route to get there - via a short funicular and a pleasant, tree-lined walk across the square. As a property of age and character, the hotel is very charming to look at - yet the modern interior of the reception area lends it a clean and business-like appearance also. The welcome was at once warm and efficient. Happily, the bedroom was also in period character - a triple room, but easily spacious enough to accommodate the extra bed we required as we have two children. Imagine our delighted surprise when we discovered that the matrimonial bed was a four-poster! On exploring the area we discovered that the Roncevaux is ideally situated for a visit to the castle and old town with its huge variety of restaurants. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and hope to return there ourselves.

Although booked "blind" on the internet, we were very pleased with choice. Nice quiet room (We were at the back overlooking a courtyard, I believe the rooms at the front were less quiet, but this should be expected for a central location. I would return

The Roncevaux was perfectly situated in the middle of Pau and with investment and management could be a good hotel. As it is the standards of maintenance are appalling and I could not recommend it

Overall it has been a lovely stay at the Roncevaux and the staff are very helpfull.! Only one thing I'd like to highlight that the mobile phone shouldn't be allow to use in the breakfast area as some customers are quite noisy...

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel, it was in the centre of town which is exactly what we wanted. Your web site helped us to find a hotel that matched our needs exactly - only a short stay but it was excellent
