The hotel was superb! We were treated so well. They owners are very friendly and hospitable. The room was perfect. It had a very limited view of the lake, but it was a 3 minute walk to the actual shore, so no big deal. It was still pleasant sitting on our balcony. And their adjoining restaurant was excellent. We ate there for dinner and then for the following lunch. We highly recommend la Vela. We were there at the end of September; we had the town of Passignano sul Trasimeno virtually to ourselves and the weather was still excellent.

We were based at La Vela for 5 nights as we were travelling by train. The hotel is very well maintained and the rooms are clean and of a reasonable size with small fridge, safe and ample storage space, there is also a balcony. The bathroom, although clean is not the most comfortable to use as the shower is situated in the middle of the bathroom with just a curtain round it and the floor gets all wet. There is a restaurant adjoining the hotel which serves good food and is very reasonable. The hotel is not too far from the train station so it is convenient for travelling to Assisi, Perugia etc. Passignano is not a very big resort but there are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from and there is a nice friendly feel about the place. There are regular ferries from Passignano to other resorts on the lake. We had a really nice stay at La Vela and were made to feel welcome by the owners, I would recommend this hotel if you wish to stay in Passignano.

I agree with all the previous positive comments - a really great hotel. One slight point - the top floor front rooms do have a lake view but this is only a glimpse over the rooftops. We enjoyed the view all the same.

All comments on the website concerning La Vela are absolutely right, this is an excellent hotel with wonderful warm Italian hospitality from Sylvia and her team in an ideal location. We loved it.

I spent a very enjoyable week here. The staff were friendly and helpful, while the food served in the restaurant offered great choice and value. The hotel is very convenient for the railway - although I was never aware of any associated noise - enabling me to explore further afield quite easily. It's also only a short stroll to the centre of the resort and the lakeside. As a solo traveller, it definitely made a nice change to have a room with a balcony. There was a good mix of nationalities while I was there, with Italians probably in the majority, which I liked - I prefer not to stay at hotels where all the guests are fellow Brits! I'd be very happy to return.

We liked this hotel so much that we recommended it to several other travellers over the next two weeks in Italy. We would return in a minute, and hope to in the future. The family running La Vela made us feel we were guests in their home. The food in the restaurant was delicious. Passignano sul Trasimeno is a wonderful, relaxing lakeside town, with an interesting contrast between a more modern town area and an older, very interesting medieval section. We enjoyed two lovely days of a more relaxed pace in between visits to busier cities of Siena and Florence.

Excellent hotel, very clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good variety and restaurant next door good quality and value. In quiet area with easy access for town centre and lake. Wall between our room and next door was a little thin and on some occasions we could hear our neighbours talking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would have no hesitation in staying again if we return to this lovely area.

Nice hotel, good location, friendly welcome. Underground parking is a little tough to negotiate. Don't feel pressured to eat at the hotel restaurant, as there are plenty of great options in town. A great summer vacation place, with nice views off the balconies.

Fantastic value for the money for just the rooms alone. Easy walking distance to everything - the town, the lake, and the train station. The staff made my stay even more enjoyable - they were excellent English speakers, and pointed out all the good places to see, do, and eat in the area. Whatever I needed, they did everything they could to accomodate me. I felt right at home, and I would love to come back. Be sure to reserve the rooms on the top floor.

An excellent week's stay near the lake. All the bars cafes etc are close to property, with the attached restaurant serving excellent food at reasonable prices. The staff at the hotel are polite and very helpful, suggesting places to visit etc. The hotel is perfectly situated to visit Assisi, Gubbio and the villages around the lake and the beautiful Umbrian countryside. An excellent holiday.

This hotel is locted extremely well for outvisits to most hilltop cities in central Italy. The owners and staff are extremely attentive to there guests. The only drawback for us is that they do not have bathtubs (vascas), only showers. Other than that, one couldn't ask for more in a small hotel in a beautiful village on the banks of Lake Trasimeno.

The hotel is not a modern one, but very nice and quiet. The room was big and clean. There were two bathrooms in the room, but both small and not comfortable. The staff is very pleasant. Good continental breakfast. Definitely nice place to stay (good value for money)

We found that this hotel represented excellent value for money. The proprietor and his wife speak very good English, which does help when you don't know much Italian! They were friendly and helpful and let us park our car there even though we arrived before the nominal check-in time. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble - my husband was delighted to be furnished with an extra pillow upon request. The hotel is in a convenient location; it's easy to walk into the centre of Trasimeno. There is an excellent hotel restaurant, that is also open to the public and we noted that there appeared to be several Italian regulars, which we took to be a good sign. After looking at various menus, we chose to eat there rather than in town and felt amply rewarded. I would unreservedly recommend this hotel.

Absolutely lovely small friendly hotel. I was given the choice of two rooms - one of which was a double - at no extra charge. Guess which one I chose. The adjoining restaurant is excellent with a very good and varied menu and a discount for hotel guests. The hotel is situated very close to the old centre of Passignano and the railway station making trips out to all the lovely hilltop towns of the area very easy. I will definitely be back.

This hotel was wonderful! The lodging was clean, the room was large, and the bathroom was very nice, and all for the low price! The property is not on the lake, but only a very short walk from it. The breakfast is served in the hotel's bar, so the cappucini are real (no Nescafe!) and unlimited, as well as the generous food options. The entire staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to give us directions and maps to assist us during our visit. Parking is in an underground garage that can only be accessed with a key, even by pedestrians - VERY secure. The only not-so-great point: the towels are the thin, cloth kind and not terribly comfortable. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel. Much nicer and less expensive than our hotel in Assisi the night before, and a relatively short drive to many tourist cities.

We had two rooms, both very comfortable. The staff was warm and friendly; and the breakfast was tasty and plentiful. The hotel is located in an area convenient to restaurants, the water front, and local shops. We stayed two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lake Trasimeno is also a good base location for exploring other mountain towns. We drove to Umbertide and Cortona with no problems at all. We will definately stay at La Vela again.

We found the staff so friendly and helpful. The food at the restuarant was brilliant. The rooms being air conditioned was just wonderful in the hot heat. The staff could not do enough for us. Being so close to the train station and to the town was convenient. This was our best accommodation in Italy!!
