The hotel staff were not helpful and ignored my original request. The room was booked as a wedding gift to friends but the hotel wouldn't charge MY credit card on their arrival and demanded credit card from them despite me having emailed the hotel to explain the whole situation. This entirely defies the object of the gift in the first place. Very disappointed in the service.

I have returned to this "Residence" for a second stay in two years and can fully recommend it (the shower / toilet facilities, if they are included in the room, are a little quirky in that they have been retrofitted into the old, very spacious rooms and this could be a concern for anyone needing privacy in front of those they share a room with).

It was a bad start to our European trip. The residence has a creepy feel to it. The toilet was always absolutely filthy. Rooms were tiny and there was blood on our sheets, which we cleaned off ourselves because we didn't want to speak to the staff who either could not speak English or were unfriendly. Overall, keep away

The Hotel was adequate for our needs as we spent most of our time out exploring Paris. The location was excellent. We knew in advance that the rooms and service were going to be fairly basic. I was a little anxious in advance about the realities of a lack of toilet in the room buit the shared toilets were clean and close to the room so this was not a major issue. The noise from the corridor and surrounding rooms was quite loud at times, but thankfully not at particularly unsocial times.

Our room was lovely, beds were comfy and the shower and basin were clean. Slightly awkward was the fact that the shower isn't separated from the rest of the room, since I was with my brother, but we just sat on the balcony. Floors in the corridor were rather noisy, but there weren't a lot of people wandering the halls anyway. Beautiful location right across the road from the Luxumberg Garden and an easy walk from the station. There's even an elevator to get up to the 4th floor (though it's quite small). I would definitely stay here again if I returned to Paris!

Great location. If you are on a tight budget this is a better choice. But if you weight over 200 lbs you might not fit in the shower cube, it is indeed the smallest shower Ive ever seen.

My mom and I stayed here for 2 nights. There are lots of metro stations close to this Residence. It is very close to Luxemburg, the area is very nice, the people in the cafe downstairs are very helpful. The owners of the residence also gave us maps, and helped us with printing off our flight information. The place was very clean. We had no problems using the toilet out of the room. The shower does have a glass door but we had no issues with one of us having to leave the room as the shower faces a wall. The balcony was small but nice. There is a lot you could do around the area. Very nice place to be and good price.

Residence Du Palais Was Awesome. We would stay there again! The neighborhood is amazing-very lively and full of great eating/shopping without being overly touristy like other spots. Very close to public transportation. The pension itself has very nice. Perhaps some would consider it quite humble (it is definitely not fancy), but we found it to be a very homey and welcoming respite after hectic touring days. The owner's 2 cats always 'welcomed' us when we returned.

The Hotel Résidence du Palais I generally liked. Excellent hotel surroundings, very benevolent staff, reasonable price are the main advantages of this hotel. The microwave in a dining room was very useful to us. There were only two lacks in the hotel – bad cleanliness and too small shower cabin for my adult son. But the room was cleaned after my remark. I recommend this hotel as an excellent budgetary variant and because you can go to many of historical sights on foot.

Very cozy, clean little room with a beautiful view of the city. Across the street from the Luxemburg Gardens. Next door to a very nice bar/cafe in a lovely neighborhood with patisseries, small markets and cafe's. I was traveling with my teenage daughter and felt very comfortable with the clientele that the hotel catered to as well as the friendly helpful staff. They were very helpful in giving advise for navigating the city.

It is what you would expect for the price you are paying. The location is right on the park. They offered 3 free hours of wifi. Also - there is an elevator. I believe the majority of the building is residential. Entry way is a bit dark and the office would be difficult to find if arriving at night. (it is on an upper floor)

We stayed three nights in a double room , with the smallest shower we've ever used. Toilet was in the hall, a couple of rooms down. Very quiet. Plain, small, but the price cannot be beat (60 euros per night for both of us). Bed was comfortable; would have liked more and/or bigger pillows. Even had a TV, and wifi we had no problem accessing. Great location, right off of the Jardin du Luxembourg, in the 6th, near Vavin - wonderful neighborhood. Do not pay the 5 euros for breakfast - terrible coffee, and not much bread. Go out to the local cafe - for about the same price you can get a much better deal.

Our room was clean, compact, and cheery. The bed was very comfortable! When we opened the window and stepped out on the balcony, we were treated to an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower and its light show in one direction and Sacre Coeur in the other! The location was great, near 3 Metro stops, restaurants, shops, and pastry shops. A great bargain in an expensive city. Perfect for our needs.

The Résidence du Palais provides excellent value for money. It is in a good, quieter area of Paris, near the Luxembourg gardens. The Metro is not too far and there are several buses you can use if you don't want to use the Metro. The staff were wonderful and most welcoming. The room we stayed in was adequate for two people. It was clean and warm (perhaps a bit too warm). The hallways need a bit of attention (a bit of paint or new carpets would do), but considering that the reason to be in Paris is to experience the city and not to stay in a hotel, that is a minor issue. The floors (especially in the hallways) were very creaky, which could bother some people. Always bear in mind that you get what you pay for. There is no point in expecting high standards when you pay budget prices. My overall recommendation is that Résidence du Palais is a fine place to stay for one or two nights, but I would not recommend a stay there for more than three nights. I would happily return to the Résidence du Palais.

Be aware this place is NOT a hotel with a traditional foyer & reception area and you need the code to get in when the door is shut. This is sent to you by email. Breakfast time period a bit short ie weekdays 0745-0845 and quite prompt. Could do to extend a bit later as people ARE on holiday! Lovely area around residence though especially the Jardin de Luxembourg. Good metro connections close by and easy to walk to Left Bank; Montparnasse.

Front desk reception locked and only available about 8 hours a day and, except for the first day, very unfriendly and sour. Walls paper thin. stayed awake all one night listening to next door neighbor talk on the phone. Shower so small, I literally almost could not fit in it. No lock on the community bathroom door until the the 4th day. Location excellent, price fantastic, though 2 euros/night more expensive than we had expressly agreed to, view great, and double pane windows kept out the traffic noise. Unfortunately, with no air conditioning, the window had to stay open most of the time or I would have suffocated. On the whole, it was less than I expected, but still fine for the price and better than a hostel.

The residence was in a great location, by the Jardin du Luxembourg, close to great cafes and nice shops. I had a single room that was quite large and had a nice old cupboard in it. Breakfast was basic, bread, jam, butter, coffee from a machine. I thought that they could improve on several details. 1) Provide Fresh Coffee 2) Provide an efficient toilet paper dispenser in the shared bathroom in the hall. The one they had was one of those made of tin with a big roll in it. The paper kept on breaking off and getting lost inside when I used it. When the roll was empty, which happened twice in my one week stay, it was not replaced until the cleaning lady came by, which could be the next day. I think that at times like that, one is supposed to use the other toilet at the opposite end of the hallway, but there is no sign indicating that there is another toilet. 3) The bread ran out on two occasions at breakfast and I had to ask for more. 4) There was no light by the bed to read by. There was a small lamp on a table, but I had to do some repositioning with the extension cord and place it on top of my suitcase. Also the switch of the lamp was broken, so to turn it off, I had to unplug it. In spite of this lack of attention to details, the place had a certain welcoming atmosphere about it. The man who works there regulary (the owner?) was very friendly. Although the weekend man seemed a little distant and uninterested in providing a friendly service. I would stay there again, but mainly because of the great location.

Overall for the price you cant go wrong here. The toilet light is on a timer which is far too short. The lights turn off after around 20 seconds and seeing as the switch is not within reach of the toilet you end up feeling your way to the door. The cleanliness of the shared toilet facilities also left a lot to be desired. I think that this was due to inconsiderate other guests though, and not the hotel as the actual room and bathroom were very clean. The views from the top floor are great but due to location I dont think that the other floors would have anything like it. There is internet available but only if you sit in reception as they have no wifi. There are private apparments on each floor too and the first night I stayed there was a party in one of these that went on until the early hours of the morning. With reception not available after 8pm there was not much I could do as the people holding the party were very rude and refused to keep the volume down. A vast majority of the main tourist attractions are within walking distance of this holtel. The nearest metro (Notre-Dame-des-Champs) is just a couple of hundred meters away. There are loads of cafes and bistros in the vicinity and the Jardin du Luxembourg is right across the road. All in all for the price and location I would recommend this hotel to other travellers looking for cheap accomodation.

Although i know paris well it took me a while to find the hotel as it is located behind a courtyard behind a door of the street. the owners spoke no english whatsoever and so it was difficult to communicate that my room still had someone staying in it as it had not been cleaned etc this was at 4pm on checking in. as i needed a taxi at 2.30am when checking out for my connecting train there was no facilities or people to help with this, i had to leave my key outside their closed door as there was no facilities for checking out. for a first visit to paris i would not recommend this residence. the view from the 6th floor was worth the initial hassle of checking in, other floors would not give you any view at all. for my business purpose it was cheap and so central, would not use it for leisure visit however. the site stated that you could pay extra for breakfast but im not sure how you would get that as i didnt see anyone in the building for the whole 3 days that i was there and the owners did not offer any facilities once there. The toilet is on the landing which i had to try all the doors to find out which one it was as some of the rooms are actual private homes - this didnt go down to well.

This is a great budget stop. There are very few amenities with the rooms. However, while we were there the rooms were being updated to get flat screens (not too shabby). The service from the hotel staff in terms of friendliness and informativeness is unparalleled in Paris. Besides, who comes to Paris to just sit in a hotel room? The best part is that it just outside of the Jardin du Luxembourg, a great place for family fun and relaxation.

This pension is in a wonderful location near the centre of Paris. Our room was clean but tiny, and there was a small shower and washbasin in the middle of the bedroom. If you need privacy to shower, this could be a problem. The room doors are more like cupboard doors than anything else, and the single loo at either end of the corridor was often occupied which led to us dashing up and down the corridors trying to find a vacant loo. If you can't manage stairs, forget it- there is a lift which will accommodate two people but you have to climb a small flight of stairs to reach it. Our last night there was rendered hideous by some very young and noisy Americans partying in the room opposite. After another guest had asked them to be quiet without success, I went over and made my feelings clear, and they quietened down, but it exposed how thin the walls were. So a great location, great price, but there are several drawbacks to staying here. City tax isn't included either, so expect to pay 0.30 euros per night per guest extra on top of your Venere quote.
