I was there with 3 kids for one night and can fully recommend. Pros: location, metro in front, restaurants around, room spacy enough for 4 persons, nearly no street noise when window closed, friendly reception. Cons: difficult to park a car in front of the hotel when arriving - but parking garage offered for 18 Euro per 24h (noon-noon only), very small elevator, cleaning behind the multifuction sofa which was used as bed can be improved.

The pictures on the webside lie. This is hardly a so-called design hotel or boutique hotel but more of a re-done late 18th century town house complete with wall-to-wall carpets in garish colours throughout. Actually, the whole place is like a nightmare from the worst days of the 1980s. Do not stay here!

If you don't mind taking the metro everywhere, this is an excellent, quiet hotel with good breakfast offering much more than the standard croissant. And convenient to Monparnasse station.

The best thing about this hotel was the metro stop directly outside the hotel so it didnt really matter that we were on outskirts a bit as you could always get anywhere in 20mins. The hotel itself was ok, website showed nice rooms but our room had wallpaper coming off the wall and beds were quiet low too, on the first night we kind of felt quite itchy which subsided the 2nd night so not sure what went on there, kind of felt the mattress could do with a hoovering!!! Our room was at front so it overlooked the road which was very busy and noisy every night so you couldnt leave the balcony window open when room heats up (no air con), sirens were constantly going & lots of police cars around so not sure if it was because there was something going on that weekend that i was oblivious too. Reception staff welcomed us when we arrive but never once told us about facilities or where dining room was so we never ate there. The stairs were very winding and lift extremely small - not for the Claustrophobic!! There is a nice Steak house around the corner and late opening supermarket where we bought our breakfast and stored in the mini fridge each evening. Also about Paris in general, i wasnt aware all the shops closed on a sunday so we had no retail therapy whats so ever, best to research where you want to go and what you want to do / see before you get there. And, if you've never been before i recommend the shuttlebus to and from the airport, well worth the money

It is really costeffective for an expensive place like Paris. It's directly in front of the metro station and just next to a couple of brasseries where you can have breakfast for the half of the price requested by the hotel.

The hotel was nice and good enough. With a subway entrance right in front, so good located to move through subway. Rooms are small but cute. Problem was the parking. They don't have a parking and sent us to one two-three blocks away. The guy in charge there, first, didn't speak a word of english or spanish and second aparently there was no room in the parking and since he had no way to communicate, he ended up nervous, yelling and he even spat at me. I guess, by the looks, that he insulted me badly, but I can't really tell, since i didn't understand a word of all the screaming, though i got scared and left quickly. Pretty nasty all scene. At the hotel i tried to get a complaint sheet but they didn't give me one and the only explanation was that 'French people are not like this, just people from Paris'. Apart from that, the hotel was fine, old, but painted with bright colours and clean, although never a boutique hotel as i know them.

Great place to stay. Right outside of the metro/tram/bus station and in a good neighbourhood. They clean the rooms every day but most of the (friendly) employees hardly understand english. A small hotel that was great for its price(~67/day). I wouldn't give more than that though. Given the prices i will prefer them again for sure :)

This Hotel is very good!!! The staff is nice and the rooms are clean! One of the best things is that the Metro station is just in front of the hotel. And there is a supermarket next to it so you can buy your things to eat for example the brakefirst there!!! so did I because the brakefirst in the hotel is a bit expensive (12€). This hotel is a very good choise if you are intrested in cheking out the city and see all the sights. And there is a free luggage room if you are already checked out. The price is good and the hotel is very clean and with lots of flat screen tv's in there quite modern.

Close to mini-market, Mo station, restaurants, etc. Easy to find. Spacious, clean, functional rooms. Friendly employees. Although the hotel is on a busy boulevard, windows provide an efficient noise protection. The only - is the internet connection, that the employees didn't manage to set up for me, but this was a temporary problem. A nice advantage : Int. access is free, which is not common in Paris hotels. Let's hope it will soon become as natural as providing hot water... I recommend ! PS: I didn't try the breakfast

We stayed at this hotel for one night. Everything was fine. The staff were friendly and helpful, allowing us to leave luggage before the check-in time and again after we checked out. They also kept my computer in a secure place. The location is great - a few paces away from the Metro for access to central Paris and with restaurants cafés and shops in the immediate area. The room was perfectly adequate - clean, warm and not noisy with everything functioning in the bathroom. The free wi-fi connection in the room was a great bonus. All in all a great place to stay if you don't need to be in the tourist centre. We shall be back.

The hotel is perfect located in front of the metro station. The facilities in the hotel were much worse, I excepted from the advertising on the web-sites. My room was very noisy, I heard people running up and down all the day (and night), because the elevator was so small and a wreck. The TV set did not really function. The night was cold, the blanket reminded me more of a youth hostel equipement, clever covered with a nice small piece of textile for a photo. The squeaking bed must be smaller than 80cm, not speaking of the depressing view from my window to the backside of the house...

I have stayed at 50+ European hotels so far, this Hotel was excactly as described plus some (given the room rate): awesome decor in front entry and lobby (I took pictures for the wife back home), clean, close to train station, taxi stand across the street, inside room had very low noise from outside, several types of restaurants and bakeries near by, friendly staff at front desk who spoke English, room size was typical European hotel room size, periphique is only 300m away if you are traveling by car. Only 2 items I was dissappointed in was couldn't get wireless to work from 5th floor room (note I gave up after 2 tries and verifying with front desk I had the right codes) and couldn't turn TV volume up very loud (bearly hear it, but then again what do you travel to France for to sit in a hotel room at watch TV!). Overall these are minor compared to everything else and I would stay here again.

We loved this hotel during our recent stay in July 2008. The rooms and the bathrooms were nice and clean. The ambience is very nice and there is a nice lounge close to the reception. The staff was very helpful and gave us all the tourist information on various places. There is an ATM, a metro station stop, a general grocery store and some restaurants right outside the hotel which was very convinient. There was only one downside that the hotel rooms did not have a fan or air condition. This was specially a problem in the month of July when its really hot outside. But we managed to work around it by keeping the windows open. I would definitely recommend this place.

The receptionist was fantastic, he really went all the way to help us. Rooms were nice, big enough, clean and had extra pillows. Really nice waiting area. A wonderful place to stay! A great value, as our nightly bill was inexpensive and this was by far the nicest hotel we stayed at during our time in Europe. The hotel staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. The only downside is that the hotel is situated on the out-skirts of Paris and is far away from the tourist attractions. Fortunately, the Metro is right across the street and is very easy to navigate. I would highly recommend this hotel!

The hotel is fine for Paris if you do not want to spend more than $150 per night. It is clean and the room is not small by Paris standard. The elevator is so small, it can take one person with two suitcases or two people with on suitcase. So be prepared to carry your luggage up and down the stairs. You could hear people from other rooms sometimes. The location of the hotel is pretty good, right by the subway and tram. There are places to eat nearby as well. That is a plus.

Paris was our last stop in Europe and we were excited to stay at this hotel as the pictures made the place seem very cool. When we arrived, the lobby was as promised, but the room (no air conditioning!) was terrible. We felt deceived by the pictures online as our room looked nothing like we expected it to. There was someone sanding wood directly below our window, which we had to have open in order to breathe. We were so disappointed that we decided to cancel our stay there and move to another hotel. The best part of the experience, however, is that we were only charged for the night of our stay. We didn't have to pay any fees in addition, such as a cancellation fee or early departure fee. It's cheap and there's a reason why!

Tiny and inadequate lift was a problem for some of our party. The Hotel tried to give us rooms other than the ones we had booked. No extras such as tissues, not enough clothes hangars in room and had to ask several times for more. Reception area closed at 11p.m. and had to wait a long time for someone to open up. He was rude and said that we had rung the wrong bell. We had rung the bell indicated by the sign.

The picture of the outside was just as seen. The room was clean. It was on the front of the hotel it became quite hot as it was too noisy to open the window. I would return if I wanted a convenient stop off in Paris on a limited budget.

This is a great, funky hotel. Although it's quite south of the city centre the Metro stop is literally outside the front door so it's easy to get everyone in Paris and a nice quiet retreat to come to at the end of the day. Well, I say quiet, but the walls are paper thin and - well it is the city of love after all... But this didn't bother us and there is a great brasserie next door, as well as a patisserie on the other side. There isn't much else so you'll probably not spend much time around the hotel Staff were excellent and unlike other hotels in Paris, were very friendly and accomodating. The lift only takes 2-3 people and is tiny, but in its own way is an experience. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any young couple like us looking for a long weekend in the capital

My female friend and I were not expecting too much from the hotel. Admittedly, we got surprised by the tidiness of the place and above all, the staff kindness and politeness, very different from the customer service experience we had at restaurants, although I speak French. The French monsieur at reception who took after us was definetely a gentleman. We just have one thing to complain about: no air conditioning in the rooms. Weather was lovely, but since the place is located just beside one of the busiest roads in the French Capital city, we couldn't leave the windows open for some fresh air. But despite all that, I still recommend it.

Room and stairways were a bit shabby (handle loose on bathroom door, curtain hanging off rail, old carpets & needed a fresh coat of paint) but the room was spotless and cleaned daily. Shower was good - hot & powerful! There was constant traffic noise & sirens all night & we needed earplugs to sleep. The lift really is tiny - and we are quite small ourselves! The location is great for the metro and shops are nearby. The staff were friendly & spoke good English (& tolerated our bad French!) Overall, quite good value but wasn't really as good as we were expecting. Probably would stay elsewhere next time.

While some people have complained about the size of the room, elevator etc., this is more a reflection of (most likely) a North American bias towards a general standard that does not exist in Europe outside of Airport Merriot's or 300 euro a night 4 star hotels. I travel to Paris quite a lot and was shocked at the value, location and standard of this hotel. Yes, the elevator is small, but the location (right outside the metro and 10-15 minutes to the Spanish Quarter is excellent). To add to that, Porte Orleans is an affluent area - with the beautiful old university buildings and parks surrounding it. If you are like me and are left somewhat disgusted by the so called "culture" of prostitute filled Monteparnasse, then this is the hotel for you. The rooms are larger than almost any other 2-3 star hotel in Paris and the staff are courteous and helpful. I have since been back twice to Ideal and would not hesitate to return.

I stayed 3 night in this hotel in february 2008, with my wife. The hotel was pretty good. I didn't have breakfast (I bought some delicious croissants in a market near the hotel) because it was too expensive. The room was clean and not so small. There were TV with italian channel and also wi fi access for my pc (for free). I don't speak french but it was easy to understand each other with english and some word of italian. The metro is in front of the hotel, so it's perfect. I think it was a 2 stars (there are 2 stars on the room key) but, after some works now it is a 3 stars hotel. I suggest you to stay in this hotel and visit the splendid Paris!

It is OK if all what you need is a clean and reasonably comfortable room to spend the night. The lift is very small and slow, so it may be a problem if your room is not at a low floor . The subway exit is just in front of the hotel and this is great when you come back from a whole day spent sightseeing! You can eat with 20 euros at a good brasserie next door. You can have a better breakfast than that offered in the hotel for the same price at a nearby bar.

Unexpectedly good hotel for this price, unexpectedly large rooms for Paris, surprising convenience to subway exit. Great! Will use this hotel from now on in Paris

Hotel A L'Ideal is a nice, small hotel. Although quite some distance from the center of Paris(apprx. 10 minutes via subway), the hotel is right in front of a metro station (Port Orleon), quite convenient. The room is spotless clean and the staff is ready to help and suggest to make your stay memorable. Be warned: No airconditioning. We were there during spring. I cannot imagine how hot it can be during summer..no fan even. If you read other reviews, the elevator is a problem. On our second day, they fixed it! It is small, slow and makes a funny noise when it reaches the 3rd floor but it is working. If you stay here, bear in mind, it is far from the center. Nothing much to do around the hotel but you can find cafes, resto and a convenient store around the corner. Worked great for us!

Sweet little hotel. Absolutely nothing fancy but everything clean as a whistle and surprisingly spaciou. The room looked exactly as pictured on the website. The most outstanding aspect of the hotel was the desk staff. Joanna was remarkable and made us feel welcome. The location is a little out of the way but the Metro stop is right outside so getting to/from was a breeze. good restaurants nearby (actually right next door). Really pleasant experience.

Nice stay (3 nights). Location was at least as expected. Very high price/quality ratio. Metro station just beneath the entrance makes this hotel strategic for sightseeing. Breakfast prices far too expensive.

2 nights in paris, L'Ideal ok if like us you or happy on the metro. If not prepare for a lot of taxi journeys. Not much doing in Port d'orleons so you will have to travel. Apart from location then , hotel was very economical.

We were put on the 5th floor and the lift stopped functioning the next day and was not repaired for the next 4 days(till the day we left). We had to walk up and down with our luggage.

I was a bit disappointed that on our first visit to this hotel we were put right next to the lift and being new years eve people arrived throughout the night and every time someone used the lift (which by the way is the smallest lift i have ever seen in my entire life) or came up the stairs we heard everything. Our bathroom was absolutley spotless, to be honest i think it was fitted before we arrived, it looked like it hadn't been used before. The room was warm, sometimes way to warm to be in and we had to have the windows wide open. I think for our first time they could have made a bit more of an effort and give us a quiter room. The access to the shops was excellent, anything you need id right outside, really really good. A taxi to the Eiffel Tower is about 9 euros (£6) so that's not too bad. In all it was ok.

Nice Location, close to Metro-Station. Easy acces to the city. Rooms are not big, but there is enough space vor a short vacation. The Front Desk people are very friendly and helpful - thank you again! Nearby are some shops and restaurants, but some of these restaurants are not as good as they should be - so be careful! Summary: for visiting Paris this is a good place!

Room was clean although a little small, the location of the hotel was not too bad. However, the metro station is directly outside the front door, so this is a definite positive. booking through venere we got a much better price than if you had walked in from the street, so that was also good. breakfast can be a bit frustrating, depending on the other guests staying at the time, as you must almost fight them for the last croissant or some milk to put in your tea. we were on the seventh floor, so the day the elevator was not working was a bit of a pain. the staff were friendly and helpful but i do not believe there is an internet facility offered which the website claims. Finally, the most important point is that i do believe the hotel offers good value for money, so if you are on a fairly tight budget in paris, this could be the place for you.

Anybody there spoke spanish, so I couldn't understand what meant: "multilengual". Otherwise, everything were quite well, according to the price. The breakfast wasn't included in the price (7€/day) but we didn't take it there, because the breakfast room was very busy.

An excellent room for just sleeping. Airconditioning/fans not available so it got very hot. For the price, this is a perfect spot to sleep. Although noisy outside, the rooms were very quiet. Metro is right outside the door. if you want to hang around in the room this is not the place, but for a clean and no-frills bed, this is perfect.

Overall it was a very good experience with the hotel, quiteness and cleaniness, but the best thing was the location, you get out of the metro station and hotel entrance is 5 meters away, which was really time saving

The room for 4 people was quite small. The elevator for the hotel is exceptionally small, slow and scary. There must have been a hospital near by because the night and early morning air was pulsating with annoying loud siren screeches and very loud traffic noise. Combine that with the oven that the room became in the sun and it was very uncomfortable. The rate for the room was fairly cheap, so you get what you pay for.

I was pleasantly surprised by the kindness of the desk clerks as well as the general look and atmosphere of the main entry hall. The rooms were very clean and two of the three were quiet (we stayed in three rooms due to room availibility). The third room being near the stairs was not quiet at all and I had some trouble with the noise the first night. The price was reasonable for paris in its peak season. Highly recomended for tourists on a budget. It is far from the center of mainstreem tourist activity but there is plenty to do in the surrounding areas if you look hard enough. The perk is that prepared food and groceries are a tad cheaper because it is far from the tourist action. Great hotel.

As its name mentions it, the hotel was ideally located just in front of the metro station but a little noisy. We were woken up by the trains in the morning, and there was a lot of noise during working hours (the hotel is being renovated at the moment). The personnel was not very nice, especially the night auditor who never said hello. The lift was ridiculously tiny and very scaring. Only one person carrying two bags could take the lift, the other person had to climb up the stairs. Luckily our room was on the 1st floor. It was just perfect, very clean, completely refurbished and the bathroom had just been renovated. We didn't have breakfast there as we found it a little expensive (7 euros) but there was a boulangerie next to the hotel. All in all, we enjoyed our 2-night-stay there. It was just perfect for tourists like us who spent their time visiting Paris ans only needed a comfortable bed to sleep in and a clean bathroom to get washed. We recommand it to young couples like us who don't want to spend much on accommodation and keep their money for shopping!

This hotel was really handy (right on the Metro line) and had restaurants, supermarket, chemist etc all in walking distance. There is also public parking close by - we left our car locked up for the weekend and Metro'd everywhere. Breakfast was real basic - you get in, eat, leave - no time for chat. The rooms were clean and quiet - nice hotel.
