Hotel Reviews Sèvres Montparnasse

Ecuador, Sep 2009
I've been to Paris several times and stayed at low cost hotels in the Montparnasse area. Sevres Montparnasse was a nice surprise. It's really near Falguiere (M 12) and Pasteur (M 6) and on walking distance of all Montparnasse connections, RER in Port-Royal and Denfert-Rochereau, and had all services nearby (markets, laundries) -- rooms were clean, comfortable and staff did their best to please us.

This was our first stay, and hopefully the last. The room was clean alright, but very small, the decoration was awful (and old) and the reception desk a little too insistent on us leaving the room on time (several phone calls and knocks on the door). The bathroom was tiny and taking a shower without flooding the rest of the bathroom downright impossible due to a faulty shower curtain which was never repaired although we asked several time for it to be fixed. At 75 euros a night (65 on w/e nights), there must be better deals than this even in Paris. Certainly not recommended for a romantic w/e, more like a place you end up at if everything else has failed.

In general things were OK. The lady at the reception was friendly and my room was basic but fine for one night stay in Paris. The carpet on the floor was dirty and needs replacement. The lift is very tiny and if you travel with lots of luggage then this will be a problem. I like the Montparnasse area and the hotel location is excellent. There are 2 metro stations only a few minutes away from the hotel.

An excellent stay for anyone who wants an excellent balance between price and quality. The rooms are very quiet and extemely clean, and the basic things you need (a bed and a good bathroom) are provided. It is also very close to several underground (métro) lines. Certainly recommended!

Cheap hotel, small spaces - loby, elevator, halls, rooms (but probably this situation is also common to 4* hotels in Paris), well positioned: 2 metro station nearby - Falguire (50m -up) and Pasteur (100m -down), even not too far walking distance to downtown of Paris (abt. 25-30min. to the Louvre, 20-25 min to Eiffel Tour, 15-20 min to Luxembourg palace and gardens etc.), relatively quite area. Old furniture and vinyl painting, sooner refurbishment will be welcomed - at the entrance door they have puted some scotch tape to grip :-) A negative impresion on the first day, however good impresion at the end - having in mind all the aspects specifically to Paris hotels and the price/quality ratio, I think is a reasonable place to stay for those with a short budget. And you shoud visit Paris and surrounding areas after all...

It's very close to Metro station Pasteur, which is a transfer stop. The hotel is quite small, but has a tiny elevator, so you don't have to bother dragging heavy luggages up and down stairs. Not so good noise isolation.

The room is need to be re-newed. The most annoying thing about our room - the window is opening to main street, and it is very noisy during the night, cars and motorcycles won't give you a chance to sleep well.

this is possibly the dirtiest place i have ever stayed, we stayed also in calais 2 star but totally the opposite to this one, walls and floors where stained, and splattered, the bed had a dip in the middle, so we roled to the middle, the whole hotel was dark and in need of a complete refurbishment, we dare not eat there as it seemed a dirty place , and to totally take the pineapple , the hotel picture is another building not the hotel, do yourself a favor and sleep in the metro train staion

We just needed a hotel room near the Montparnasse train station and thats what we got. Welcoming was okay. Our hotel room was very small and hot. When we left the window open, it was quite noisy outside. I think that the price was a little too much for the room that we got. I was satisfied with the room as it met our bare minimum expectations. This hotel is only good for those who want to be near the train station.

My ground floor room was somewhat noisy -- I could clearly hear other people, and every few minutes there was the faint rumble of the metro (which didn't bother me). Older, slightly worn decor, but clean; no unpleasant surprises during my stay.

Shabby & neglected are the best words for this hotel. The pix are not representative - they must have used special lighting for the interior pix as the rooms shown are actually dark & dreary. Exterior pix are not OF the hotel but taken FROM the hotel. This was NOT my 1st visit to Paris but 1st time in this hotel. Chose it because of it's proximity to metro stations, Mont P. station & the price. It was good for these things but that was all. When we 1st arrived, I almost cancelled the reservation right then. The front door was broken & poorly repaired with duct tape - & not recently. The interior is dark & shabby. Carpet is worn completely through in many places & a long dead plant in 1 corner the only decoration. Decided to check out the room before deciding to go elsewhere. The room was tiny - altho normally so for Parisian hotels. We had a room with 2 twin beds & an added cot. Had to step into room & shut door before 1 could get around the added bed. The room & bathrm were very clean & as we only needed a place to sleep after long days of sightseeing, I decided to stay. There is no a/c so be forewarned if traveling in mid to late summer. Key must be turned in each time you leave the hotel. Nothing tells you food is not allowed in the rooms but the rather cranky desk clerk will when you bring some in. I wanted to laugh & ask what difference it could possibly make to the shabby decor but refrained. The "mini-bar" is actually a tiny refrigerator that only a few drinks will fit into. Room lighting is very poor. 1 dim light in 1 corner & the 2 lights on either side of the bed had bulbs in them that were FAR too strong - blinding at best & a fire hazard as they become so hot that they will literally burn you if touched or would cause anything touching them to burn or catch on fire. Quietness was normal, closed windows help but if it's summer, you'll need them open for ventilation & the noise from the street will then be a huge problem. Area is good for shops - grocery

Fridge and bathroom were mould-infested (schimmelig) and smelly! Employees did not really care about that, getting rather angry about the complaints. I could not expect a four star hotel, they said, but from my point of view, cleanliness has nothing to do with luxury. It stayed dirty until the end of our visit. At least the Eiffel Tower was visible (a piece of it) from the window, but the uneasy feeling of a dirty surrounding remained throughout the stay.

Fantastic value for the price. Room was small but you would expect this of Paris and it was warm, clean and comfortable with functioning hot shower, clean towels and hairdryer, pretty much all you require if you're spending most of your time out and about enjoying Paris. Great location right between 2 metros, good local restaurants and bakeries so really really good value for a private room. Metro to Eiffel Tower about 5 mins, Hotel de Ville about 15 mins but both walkable if you don't mind it taking a bit longer.

Request a room towards the back, front rooms are noisy despite double glazing. Avoid rooms 6 and 7: ground floor and very noisy from street and hall! Staff friendly and helpful, their English is limited! Curtains need a wash, walls all over the hotel a paint job, but the bed was clean.

The hotel is in a great location. We had issues with the toilet (water kept running after flushing toilet). The staff were all very friendly and helpful. My wife and I had a double @ bath. Although the bathroom surfaces were clean the overall room was beyond "well worn". The wall paper was covered with various stains and splatters. We walked up the dark interior stairway before someone pointed out the light switches for each floor. I've backpacked via euorail 4 times before so I know whats out there. I would pay more before I would settle for this again. I would of changed the second night but the cancellation policy wouldn't allow it, I asked right after seeing the room.

Two of us needed a place to stay for one night. We chose this hotel because it had decent reviews and a decent price. The girl at the front desk was very kind and helpful, but that is probably the only plus for this hotel. Our room was quite dirty with brown stains on the walls and just dirt and grime pretty much everywhere. I was there in September and it was still too warm at night to shut the window. The street outside is EXTREMELY noisy. There are motorbikes on the road 24hrs a day, so don't expect to sleep much with the window open even if you're a heavy sleeper. The pictures make this place look nice, but there must be hidden rooms because my room was dirty and the bathroom was tiny (not like the one in the picture). I wouldn't stay here again.

Sucio e insalubre.

Very pleasant reception but the smallest lift imaginable, one person + 1 case if you were lucky. Reasonable size double room on 3rd floor facing an inner courtyard, so we could leave windows open and it was still quiet. Unfortunately cigarette smoke drifted in at regular intervals from the courtyard, as staff took turns poisoning themselves. Good size bathroom with instant very hot water for shower. Wifi was good but not secure. Nice neighbourhood very close to two metros and a large number of restaurants and cafes. We can recommend the Indian one just across the street for quality and price, and Café Pasteur at the end of the street too (turn left as you come out of the hotel). We would stay there again without hesitation

We arrived at 11am and they asked us to leave the luggages and turn back for the check in at 2pm when they finish cleaning. We could enter in our room at 3pm. The room is little as in many parisan hotel so it wasn't a surprise. We have chosen a cheap hotel because we've been all time in the city so we needed it for sleep and shower. The double bed is just french bed (1 and half sheet). Anyone of the rooms falshes the toilett you can hear it noisyly. The cleaning lady changed the towels and cleaned the room every day (we have left the windows often opened when we left, we have found always our values all right) but there was a disgusting dirt on the door and also on a part of the window (hope it was chocolate!). By the description of the hotel it was really easy to find it (we took the Orly bus at airport, don't wait the long queue at the ticcket office of the airport, you can buy the ticket also on the bus). Very near to the hotel there are 2 metrostation (you can reach different lines) and is really near to the Montparnasse and you can arrive everywhere if you like to walk. It was not our first time in Paris and I think for this price can be found better.

We thought we got what we paid for ... reasonable accommodation at a cheap rate in an ideal location for our needs. However the plumbing problems were annoying and were eventually solved by moving rooms... this was achieved after the poor housemaid had made various attempts wo clear toilet with an oversized plunger .. we were very embarrassed that this was part of her work duties. The reception staff were excellent and we found many suitable restaurants nearby. The train station was handy and it was an easy walk into the centro of Paris. Because of its location and price we would use this hotel again.

Although we did not expect luxury only having paid 55 euros a night, we did expect certain basics which were not forthcoming. Two pillows (i.e one each) would have been nice and when we asked for another pillow we were given a pillow case full of sheets. (no spares available in the whole of the hotel!!) Also a bath towel each would have been good. A shower head that could be attached to the wall would have been a bonus rather than having a shower being a two person job (if the shower had been big enough this could have been quite fun. Our room was on the ground floor and we realised why the room was so cheap. The Metro runs just below the hotel. The line was abusy one with trains going past every half hour or So. The plumbing was not good, everytime someone used the water we were subject to the noise of the cisterns/water tanks filling up. The second night was even worse............ Still no pillows..............Metro still VERY regular. To add insult to injury we werekept awake by the night porter on the phone (VERY LOUDLY). At 1am I got so annoyed that I went out to ask him to be quiet and was asked by him to keep it down as I might wake other people up! I'm afraid I reverted to Anglo Saxon, Still he did keep quiet from then on. In summary sub basic services for a basic price you pays your money you takes your chance (and we did)

Nice hotel - for the price. We were lucky to get a room (47) with a view of the Eiffel Tower! The neighborhood was nice - very close to two metro stations, a lot of restaurants and a supermarket. Pick this hotel for the location - not for the service provided. The room was all but quiet (there's a lot of trafic on the road outside - including ambulances) and the rooms are not luxurious. Unluckily the toilett at our room didn't work properly as the water was running straight through. The staff was not able to fix this so we had to make temporary fixes. Although the condition of the room was not the best imaginable we had a good stay. The location of the hotel ment, that we didn't spend much time in the room and compared to the price the quality of the hotel was allright. So: Choose this hotel if you want to enjoy Paris, not if you want to chill at the hotel for days.

We were very happy with our stay at Sevres Montparnasse. We are a large family (small and older kids) and booked 2 triple rooms. We arrived in Paris very early in the morning, and were able to leave our large quantity of luggage in the lobby area (easily monitored by front desk staff) for most of the day while we visited the Eiffel Tower. We did the same thing for check out since we left late in day. Both staff members we dealt with were extremely helpful and pleasant to work with. The rooms are definitely small, but we managed fine. Our first floor rooms gave us great wifi access. Given the price of everything else in Paris, these rooms were a fantastic bargain. We felt safe, and appreciated the very easy access to the Pasteur metro station. Great location, overall great experience.

Whilst the bedding was clean and the room tidy we were put off by blood splatters/smears on the ceiling and on a wall behind the bed. I ended up cleaning the blood off myself because the staff were unable to, lacking the 'specialist' equipment, we were told.

We enjoyed our visit to Paris, however we did not enjoy this hotel. We expected the room to be small, and it was however that is totally acceptable for a room at this price. We had several problems with the hotel and the staff. For the room itself there were some serious leaks from the room above us, such that everytime the shower or bathroom was used by that room, a stream of water would run down the wall of our bathroom and partially flood the floor. That was annoying but tolerable. When checking out, the hotel gave us a rate that was a little different/higher than the rate quoted on Venere. I had written down the original rate and discussed it with the desk clerk, but he had his rate schedules and argued that they never were adjusted and that my rate was not possible. This was only a small difference, but not a pleasant end to the stay. As a last request when leaving the hotel I asked the desk clerk to call a taxi. He agreed, but then never made the call. As we waited in the lobby, worrying that we might miss our train I asked him about the taxi. He said he would call, but hadn't yet - he was waiting for me to give a secondary confirmation (I suppose that the original request and the fact that we were sitting in the lobby with all of our bags packed was not a clear signal of our intention to leave). In the end I hailed a cab myself as he got busy with other things. The area was nice, with a great little Italian Tratoria up the street, boulangeries and patisseries nearby, numerous other restaurants and shops, and it was only half a block from a metro station! It was also nice that within a couple of km were several children's parks, great for our 2-year old. While I might try the neighborhood again, I would definitely choose a different hotel.

The area is relatively good. The rooms are small. The elevator is very small. My booking at venere.com did not include breakfast, but in fact the hotel was offering breakfast and it was included in other bookings. I would not stay in this hotel if it was in Thailand for example. The price 70 EUR was too expensive even when I compare with Japan (Kyoto) or Korea (Seoul) even with USA (Cambridge) or Singapore. But I guess I can not expect anything better in France at this price.

A group of 11 stayed here for a hen do. The location of the hotel was fantastic - just 20 mins walk to Eiffel Tower and main attractions. Whilst basic, the hotel was clean and staff friendly and fantastic value for a group booking - around £30/per night.

I would recommend this hotel for such guests who are not oriented to the top quality of services. It is pretty enough for such people as I. I have been there with my wife, and we were very satisfied with the location and even the small room was not a problem for us.

We wanted somewhere fairly central while we explored Paris for a short time. This hotel fufilled this need. The decor was rather tired and the lift was a squeeze even with our 2 small suitcases but the staff were helpful and we enjoyed our stay.

I recomend this hotel. It's close to the center, 30 minutes walk, close to the transportation and near Luxembourg gardens. It's a great deal.

4 nights: hotel could do with a refit or general clean-up - bit shabby in places. BUT it was clean, central and comfortable. Small room, tiny bathroom but very hot water in shower. Only English channel on tv is CNN. Didn't eat breakfast in hotel as so many cafes and bakers near by. Good Indian restaurant opposite. Hotel is also opposite childrens hospital and ambulance station so chance of sirens at any hour day or night.

The price I payed was different from the one Which was indicated at the moment of reservation. The location of the hotel was good but the spaciousness of the room was very unsatisfactory. It was a double room but the bed was for a single person!!

Well, if you are looking for a shower, do not come here. You will get a tub with a shower head that you will have to hold while you TRY to take a shower. The bed was a little itchy the first two nights of our four night stay, but my fiancee and I didn't think much of it until the third day. That was when he and I developed rashes from whatever was living in our bed. We had a snag in our follow-on travel plans and were in desparate needs of some help from the hotel staff, however, the hotel staff was extremely rude and not helpful at all. We loved our first trip to Paris, but we did not love this hotel. Do not stay here. You will be sleeping with bedbugs.

the location is great, very close to the Metro and the bed is comfortable. These are really the only Pros. The rooms are very small, run-down and not very clean, very old. The bathroom shower curtain dirty and the toilet needs to be flushed 3 times, in both rooms we had. The rooms are warm, with a dusty heater with plenty of spider webs. For about 115 $/night /room, I would not go back.----------------------------------------- La posizione e` ottima, a pochi passi dalla Metro, i letti sono comodi.
