Wonderful place. Highly recommended! We appreciated the excellent service from Emile and Moustafa at the front desk. Marvelous people. This hotel is in a very good location, convenient to gardens, jazz, the University, good food, wine, flowers, cheese, the metro, and the sights and shopping. We will return.

We have been previously to the Observatoire Luxembourg and it has maintained its standards. Good price and comfort in a pleasant area convenient to Central Paris. Next to RER B and so convenient for airports and Eurostar but a bit harder to access the Metro. Try the bus from the front door.

If you are visiting Paris first time this hotel is the best choice because to reach hotel from CDG very easy. Get on RER from airport get off Luxembourg station and you are faced with the hotel.Bingo... And thank you venere...

We stayed in one of the "corner" rooms (the building is V-shaped, it's the end building in a row of buildings, and it's at an intersection of 2 streets at an approximately 30 degrees angle), which turned out to be (in my opinion) the best option you'd get in this hotel, because you have the chance to know both sides of the building: the one on Blvd. St. Michel, and the street at the back, which is a quiet, small street, with a very nice view. Actually, come to think of it, another advantage we had was being on the second floor, which allowed us to enjoy the view of a very nice garden across the back street. For us it was the best possible location: Quartier Latin, 2 minutes away from Jardins de Luxembourg, but not in the most busy or noisy of the areas: 5 minutes away towards La Seine, begins a busier and more crowded portion of Blvd. St. Michel. But some people might be looking exactly for that. I think we got a better sleep, than if staying somewhere closer to the river (on Blvd. St. Michel), being at the same time very close to all the action. Room size was reasonable, but the bathroom was unexpectedly big, almost the same size as the room. And very clean. Staff is very helpful and friendly. I'd definitely recommend this hotel as the first choice while (the first time, at least) in Paris. We had a first class experience here.

The best feature for us was Venere´s suggestion to take line B of the RER metro to Luxembourg station. As we exited the escalator of the L'abbée de l'epée exit, the hotel entrance was gloriously just about 100 yards away. That made taking the subway excellent even with the suitcases. On the way back to the airport there´s no downward escalator but it´s only one flight of stairs down which you have to lug your luggage. When we registered, the hotel screwed up our type of room and we got a standard superior room instead of the deluxe type that we had booked. It was TINY but livable and clean. We only found out by chance on the third day and decided to keep it, not move all of our stuff, and save the extra Euros 60+ a day; we were only there to sleep after all, but if we had to do it again we would stay at the deluxe as it´s really tiny. We followed the advice of not buying the hotel's breakfast. There's a minifridge which we used to store our breakfast-feasts stuff and we always take along a coffe maker when we travel, since I'm a coffee junkie. All of our breakfasts consisted of smoked salmon, french cheeses, delicious hams, prosciuttos, and other such meats, yogurts, fruits, french breads, brioches and pastries which we bought the day before. If you don't mind not eating cooked stuff (eggs, etc.) it´s MUCH better value than paying the Euros 13 per person (we did need the coffee maker and the converter though). There are several supermarkets, bakeries and fruit stands within one to two blocks of the hotel. It´s a bit far from most of the tourist attractions we went to but Paris' bus/metro system is outstanding so we'd stay ther again if need be.

This was our first stay in Paris and we were at the Hotel for 3 days. We would have no hesitation in going back again. Staff were very helpful and courteous. We were allowed to leave our bags in their secure luggage room even though we arrived too early and we did the same on our departure.

Generally this hotel met all my needs and expectations for moderately priced Parisian hotel. My room was clean, but let down by a half full glass, a half full mineral water bottle and an empty bottle of wine on the cupboard by the bed.

This is a standard three-star Paris hotel, which implies small rooms and, for people like us who like to actually open a window, slightly noisy streets (if you are like us, be sure to book a room on the quieter side of the hotel). However the staff at the reception desk was extremely helpful and friendly all of the time, and we particularly liked the combination with the Paris brasserie downstairs - much nicer than a hotel breakfast room. Unfortunately the brasserie cannot be recommended for dinner - we tried it once but didn't really like the food - but there's lots of better options around the corner.

Excellent hotel, we booked our stay on a Monday and stayed on the Friday. Hotel very close to all attractions but far enough away so as not too much noise. Staff made us more than welcome and we we very impressed with the cleanliness of our room. Would definitely stay at this hotel again. ****

We had a great stay at the Obervatoire Luxembourg. As other have said, the location cannot be beat - it's so close to the RER line and walkable to many other areas of interest, but quiet enough and away from the highly-touristy areas. The staff were all so helpful and friendly. The room was smaller than we expected, but was clean and had a nice view. And who wants to spend time in your hotel room in Paris anyway!
USA, Sep 2008
The room I had on the first leg of my journey was recently renovated and quite attractive. However, it was too crowded, with a large padded stool, and a chair with arms that could not be tucked under the desk. The room I had on the second leg of my journey was in need of some refurbishing; dingy wallpaper, etc. and also was crowded with superfluous furniture that took up much needed space. This made negotiating my large suitcase difficult. That being said, the location, staff and ambience were fine. When I could not contact my son, who was in another room, via the hotel phone, the desk clerk offered me another room until the phone could be fixed. I declined since I did not want to bother to move from room, but appreciated the offer. Overall I enjoyed my stay (a total of 4 nights)and would definitely stay again. The view from both rooms was delightful and I enjoyed the geraniums blooming in the window boxes of the hotel.

The room is a bit pricey and lacking charater; the breakfast is much too expensive, but the attached restaurant was reasonable. Being only a few steps from RER Luxembourg, it is a great place to arrive after a long flight and get some rest. For longer stays, as I did, I'd move furth down St Michel to cheaper places closer to the center of the Sorbonne district.

The hotel is right next to the Luxembourg RER station and also opposite the Luxembourg garden. Its a bout a 10 min walk from the Pantheon which is also nice. I chose this hotel after a lot of research and based on the places I wanted to visit and was not disappointed. I must add that this was m second stay at Paris. Proximity to the RER meant we saved a lot on the taxi to the CDG airport. Rooms were clean and nice. Its on the quiter side of Saint Germain. The only downside, not too many good places to eat down the road. you had to go the Boulevard St. Germain for that. Overall, a nice hotel where the room sizes are bigger. However,if you want to be in the middle of the hustle-bustle of Paris, this is not the place for you.

I've been to Paris on busines about ten times and on pleasure once. I spent my last night in Paris on this trip in the Observatoire Luxembourg. I booked my first three nights in another hotel, but that other hotel could not accommodate a late change in plans to add a fourth night. In comparison to Observatoire Luxembourg the other hotel charged less; was more centrally located; had much more interactive customer service, nicer decor, and free internet service; charged less for phone calls and was more recently renovated. Please understand that the Observatoire Luxembourg was a fine place to stay. Everything was functional and there were no surprises. I know from first hand experience, though, that the ratings in Venere can be used to find a substantially better hotel experience at a slightly better price than offered at Observatoire Luxembourg.

Decent hotel for the price with extremely knowledgeable and helpful desk staff. Walk to Latin Quarter is a little longer than the website says; it is about 12-15 blocks. Purchase internet through a card @ the front desk. Even though kept very clean, there were some small gnats/flies in the bathroom ceiling / airconditioning unit - not indicative of the rest of the property, which was very acceptable.

Picked this hotel site unseen from the internet. Very spacious and clean for a European hotel room. In an excellent area of the Latin Quarter. Close to Luxembourg Metro station, but far enough away from the Euro-Punk, Bohemian areas closer to the Seine. Overall an excellent experience. I will call here first on my next trip to Paris.

First time to Paris and hoping to have a lasting memory, well, this hotel did just that by telling us when we arrived on our 1st day that our room was not available and we had to go somewhere else for the night. After a long flight from Canada we still had to truck our luggage to somewhere else and then bring them all back the next afternoon wasting a lot of our time that could be spent in Paris. Then, on the last night, they offered me free breakfast at 7 am the next morning knowing that our shuttle bus was pikcing us up that morning at 6:45 am. The lack of sincereity was totally obvious and the manner of that staff (never got his name) was absolutely horrendous. He also lied about the air conditioning, the one in my room was not working and he claimed that they were out of order and would be fixed the next day, it wasn't. Then I found out that the room across from my had AC and it was working, so he lied about the AC not working in the building. Never ever stay in this hotel again and we don't recommend it.

This being our first visit to paris found this to be a great hotel to use as a base to explore the city. easy access to all public transport and many local restuarants nearby. rooms are small but perfectly comfortable. our room was on top floor at rear of hotel so nice and quiet. i went for room only option as there are so many differant places nearby to get a nice breakfast although on a lazy day i got breakfast delivered to my room and was not dissappointed (simple and plentiful just what we needed to drag ourselves out of bed). This being the only hotel we have visited in paris we have no point of reference but had great stay and enjoyed our time here.

This hotel is well worth the price. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and I loved my "single superior" room. My bathroom had a full sized tub and a lovely view over a large garden. The bedroom overlooked the subway station entrance on blvd Saint-Michel(direct trains to the airport!)but was so well insulated that I heard no noise from the street. If you don't want the 13 Euro full breakfast in the hotel's private breakfast room, you can go into the public cafe and order from the menu a lovely Continental breakfast for around 7.50 Euros. There are numerous other good cafes and restaurants nearby, also. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, and would stay at this hotel again.

The RER station is right next to the hotel which very convenient to CDG airport. I booked 2 nights for a single roon 105 pre night and it shows 210 total at my booking doc. At the day I checked out they charged me 210 per night. After I explain that 210 is suppose for 2 nights, then he told me:"you are lucky because the room you stayed was 210 pre night". This was my 3rd time travelling to Paris, and the first time I've ever stayed near the Latin Quarter...I'd never stay anywhere else! I'm a bit of a hot-head, so air conditioning is important to me, and this place said it had it, and it actually did have it (unlike the last place I stayed in Paris, which said it did, but Le No). This hotel was great for us. It had just enough space and was very clean, bright and cheery. The room faced a quiet side street so noise was never an issue. We had a double bed, tv, minibar, desk and bathroom with a hairdryer (always a plus!) We traveled in winter and the heating was more than adequate (actually a bit warm). The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel was less than a block away from a main Metro line and just a few blocks away from the main Latin Quarter area full of restaurants and shops. We would definately stay here again.

The location is one that I mostly love in Paris so my opinion to this is strongly biased. The position of the Hotel is almost at the front exit of RER B line as the train is coming from Roisy CDG airport, the other end is almost 300m away. That means easy access to any part of the city and the airport. We visited, me and my wife, the city for tourism, we walked a lot in many places but we enjoyed to have morning chocolate and dinner in the area (at a distance of about 1.5km from the hotel) and returning on foot back to the hotel. There are, indeed, many very good places to go at moderate prices (excellent dinner for 2 persons and a bottle of good wine at about 80-120 euros). We discover them using a city guide for locals. The hotel is good, warm and clean. Unfortunately rooms are not very spacious, an obvious consequence of the old buildings of the area, but contains all needing things (refrigerator, safe, small table etc.) and all was in very good condition. We mostly used this hotel as a place to rest and sleep and if I combine the price the location and people in it I thing that it was a perfect choice.

The hotel was excellent. The desk at the hotel arranged a Taxi for us to the airport and provided good service. The room was small, but recently rennovated with nice drapes and fabrics and had a nice newly renovated bathroom. The location is near the Luxemburg Gardens and the Luxemburg RER station, but a bit of a walk to Boulevard Saint Germain. We had dinner at the Fish La Boissonnerie located at 69 rue de Seine which was excellent and we highly recommend the restaurant. The breakfast buffet (not included in the room price) at the hotel was good as well.

The hotel is situated perfectly, quiet surrounds and within walking distance from the latin quarter for meals. We had a lovely room at the back with french windows opening onto a large private garden with fountain, just lovely. The brassiere was not open, (closes for part of the summer), therefore we had to have a nightcap elsewhere which was disappointing. Room was AC and soundproofed as described on net. I took my 14 year old grandaughter to Paris for a week. When we arrived at the hotel, we were informed that there was a problem with our room availability. The wife of the room occupants was taken to the hospital and had to stay there longer than expected, so our room was unavailable. However, the hotel personnel had already arranged another room at a 4 star hotel just down the street. Observatoire Luxembourg staff helped us get our luggage to the other hotel, which was lovely. After two days, both hotels moved all our luggage to the Hotel Observatoire Luxembourg while we were sight seeing. The location is superb - a metro/RER station on the corner and a lovely restaurant connected to the hotel. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

We were prepared to pay a bit extra for our Paris accommodation so we opted for a premium room rather than standard. Our room was tiny so I would hate to think what the standard rooms are like. Maybe the size was pretty normal for Paris. However, in saying that, the decor was lovely and the bathroom was big and quite new. The bed was only a double rather than a queen but it was one of the most comfortable hotel beds we had in Europe. The location is great. Right near the Luxembourg gardens and the Metro station. If you have alot of bulky luggage or otherwise need space, this is not the hotel for you but we found it to be great.

I had two problems when staying at the Luxembourg: #1 The room they gave me was either still occupied or not cleaned yet, we walked in to find the bed undone, garbage and a couple of bottles of water. We freaked out and closed the door thinking there may be someone still there. Had to go back downstairs and the lady didn't really believe me at first (Like I come here to make up stories) she said she'd like to go look but she couldn't because she was alone. Thankfully they had another room and that one was clean and ready for us. #2 upon check out, they charged me more than what I had reserved under. Again I had to prove it by giving them copies of all the printouts I had from Venere and an email confirmation from the hotel itself. If I didn't have these printouts I would've gotten overcharged. The hotel in general is quite nice and in a great location, the rooms are very very tiny but at least they have a full bath which is quite nice. Great views from either side of the bldg. I would probably stay here again. I just hope next time I don't get a used room and get overcharged!

The Hotel Observatoire Luxembourg was an excellent hotel, the staff was friendly, helpful, and the rooms were comfortable and well kept. The location was wonderful, very near the beautiful Jardin de Luxembourg (but a bit far from the metro---so we got a lot of walking in). Travelling as a family of four with two teens, we rented two rooms. With the size of the rooms, trying to squeeze into one definitely wouldn't have worked. However, the rooms were comfortable for two and about the size expected for central Paris. The bathrooms were larger than normal. The rooms and hotel were clean, quiet and well kept (really liked the marble in the bathrooms), although things looked like they were starting to become a little dated. The staff were excellent, spoke english well, put up with my french and went out of their way to make our stay very pleasent. Finally, the location was perfect. We felt very comfortable (safe) walking in the area, the hotel is an easy walk to many of the sites of Paris and is just across the street from the main Metro line.

Stayed here after checking out the comments of others on this site. We have stayed in Paris before and loved this location, across from the Luxembourg Gardens, next to the RER stop, and within walking distance of the Latin Quarter, Sorbonne area, NorteDame, etc. We love to walk the streets of Paris always finding something interesting and felt safe in this area day and night. The room was small as are Paris hotel rooms, but the bed was comfy, the bathroom new with instant hot water and the room decor very tasteful. We had a lovely garden view and the staff was informed and helpful. The desk in our room had a glass top that covered a Map of Paris so it was easy to check our bearings before leaving the hotel. Paid 13 Euro/person/day for breakfast (expensive, but very good) and 99 Euro/night for our room. The hotel charged us 145 Euro for the first night and 106 Euro for the last night without specifying the charge up front. We assume that the extra charge was to cover the cost of the reservation service. The total cost was as specified, but it was a shock. We would have preferred that both the Reservation Service and the hotel would have specifically noted the charge up front and not buried it in the total price. We would recommend the hotel and now that the Euro/dollar ratio is less than in April '05 the hotel is a better value.

Great setting, friendly and welcoming staff. However rooms are small due to the narrow corner setting of the building and tarrif is quite high. Worth a visit though and we would go back.

Superb value for money hotel in very good location. While our room was a little on the small side this was more than compensated for by the excellent standard of servicing and overall cleanliness. The reception staff are a credit to the hotel for their helpfulness and courtesy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wold strongly recommend this hotel.

I am happy to respond, however, please keep in mind that upon arrival we were upgraded to the sister hotel Relais St. Jacques. We were delighted with the hotel. The Observatoire appeared to be a nice as the Venere description, but we only saw the lobby. The answers above are for the Relais St. Jacque which we loved. KL

Wonderful small hotel; professional, friendly staff; best location. Breakfast was expensive at 13 Euros. This is an odd comment, but the wall paper in our room was fabulous, with a warm, sunny glow even on rainy days.

A very welcoming place, with helpful staff. Our only quibble would be that the bed was a little too soft for our tastes, but, all in all, when we go back to Paris, chances are that we will stay here again.
