Located on rue Faubourg Montmarte and ideally placed for the central shopping areas, the Opera and Gare du Nord. Nice locality;plenty of antique shops. Hotel is painted in striking primary colours. I would certainly stay there again.

I have stayed here before but was very disappointed this time. The rooms are dark and dingy, the furniture old and cheap. I was appalled to find that the shared bathroom covers eight rooms, a ratio that is hardly acceptable. It does not warrant the cost.I would not stay here again. The area is extremely noisy and the eating places nearby are not very inviting, there are better areas in Paris and better value.

The most nice staff I have ever met compared to all the previous hotels I have stayed. They are super nice, and clear all your worries, and provide you the warmest help whenever you need. The location of the hotel is wonderful, walk to most famous shopping malls within 10 mins. And walk to subway within 2 mins, and walk to the airport shuttle stations, within 15 mins. Supermarked, walk within 3 mins. Monte Carlo, make my trip to Paris shining! Thanks for the supor service they provide to me, make my trip safe and nice!!

We had a very pleasant 2 night stay in Hotel Monte Carlo. The Hotel is a 15 minute walk from Gare du Nord, perfect for when you arrive by Eurostar train. The 9th arrondissement offers good bars, bakeries and shops, and Montmartre is only a 20 minute walk away. Two metropolitan lines close by for easy travel through town. The room was clean and tidy and quite stylishly decorated. It was quiet as far as outside noise was concerned, but the hotel doors have heavy locks so that we occasionally heard a door slam in the hallway. Otherwise very comfortable. The staff was friendly, helpful (they made us a reservation at a restaurant) and patient with our mediocre French. Considering the modest price we were very positively surprised. I would definitely go back on my next visit to Paris.

I had an incredible stay at Monte Carlo! The hotel is extremely helpful (they speak perfect English, as well; it was my first time in Paris), has a nice breakfast available for 8 euro, and is in a great location for walking around and seeing the sites. The rooms are not large (at least not the one I was in), however, it had everything I needed, and was perfect for my stay.

There are very kindness staff at the hotel. I talked 3 people. A man told me slowly and using easy word. He was very helpful. I booked single-room share-bath share-toilet. However, they changed fortunately to the room with the shower. Shared toilet is very clean. But near room's sound(TV,talking, door) is little noisy. They have a small area to drop off our luggage for few hours till your check-in. Free luggage storage till our check-in. Each bag must not exceed 90cm x 75cm x 43cm (35.5ins x 29.5ins x 16ins), including the handle, pockets and wheels for the free allowance to apply. There is good Wi-Fi system. I tell you an advice that you have to upgrade your driver of radio system in your PC. I could not use this hotel's Wi-Fi system because my PC is old one. So I upgraded my driver at another hotel where my friend is staying. Nearest station is "Le Peletier" metro 7th-track is going to Musée du Louvre. It will take 15 minutes on your foot. But it is little danger at the night.

Perfectly clean and central hotel, with the only real negative being the absence of air conditioning, and despite a cooling tower in the room this made for extremely uncomfortable nights in the Paris heat.

We loved our room-very clean, nicely decorated, small but very satisfactory bathroom. The room was very quiet except for noise in the hall when neighbors came home-couldn't hear them once in their room. Desk staff was very friendly. Although the breakfast was expensive (10E for croissants, bread, juice and hot beverage), it was fresh and good. Would recommend hotel and would return.

I found the room a little cramped, but it is Paris afterall. The room was noisy at times due to renovations going on and i think a discount should have been offered for the inconvienence. The ensuite bathroom was a good idea, after a long day walking the city who wants to wait for a bathroom. the bathroom was not completed as far as i could see, no towel racks or shelves and the shower could do with a door or curtain as water leaked onto the floor and into the bedroom even after a short shower. I did not like the fact that the front desk takes payment for my complete stay on my arrival and bills my credit card right away.I have travelled all over the world and this is a first,i would have checked out the room first but was not thinking straught after just crossing the atlantic. But that covers the negative aspects, the staff were great, friendly and very helpful, very good location.

Really fantastic place. Small room, but in my opinion not overly so at all. The noise from the street can be a bit much, but that has nothing to do with them. If you have a street facing room, you get a nice view and street noise - that's how it is. Extremely clean, very good location. Not bland, charming design and wonderfully helpful staff. The value of this hotel is really excellent, I can definitely recommend it without hesitation.

It was great for the price. The staff was really helpful. The area is just wonderful, there's so much to do. It was really hot in the room though, and my furnace was turned off, so I'm not sure where the heat was coming from, but it was uncomfortable when sleeping. The internet only worked in the lobby as well. Other than that, the place was great.

Overall, the Monte Carlo was great. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Good location, near Metro stop. I stayed twice. Wireless internet didn't work in my first room on the fourth floor, back. Overall the hotel is in a great location. Metro at 50 mt, lively but quiet place, supermaket in front, Grand Boulevards and Opera in 10 min walk, etc. However, the wellcome was very unpleasant: they asked all the payment in advace and they didn't even allow us to go to the room to leave the luggage and take cash. They pretended credit card immediately. Regarding the rooms: very nice and colored but quite basic (there is no mirror and the cupboard is an open one (no doors); the shower tends to flood the bathroom cause the curtain is too light. Overall is a "nice 2 stars in a great location" but with the price of a 3.

The smallish room was perfect for a single traveler. I opted for the cheaper, shared W/C, which was fine. Toilet and shower down the hall were kept clean and I never ran into the problem of either being occupied when I wanted to use them. There is a sink and vanity in the room. Nice staff (for the most part). Good location - within a short walk from a Metro stop, and within walking distance of good areas with shops, cafes, etc.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights at the Monte Carlo. The staff was welcoming and spoke excellent English. We had a room with toilet and shower which was necessary for me since I'm 6 1/2 mths pregnant. The room was small but that was to be expected in a large older city, similar to the rooms you'd find in New York. The entire property was always clean and the staff friendly. The area is very nice and close to most of the places of interest or otherwise a 10 min. subway ride away. Romantic with lots of charming local shops all around. Excellent location!! We actually walked to the Louvre Musee, 35 min. stroll. There is an equalvilent of a convience store facing the hotel for all your immediate needs. I would definitly recommend this hotel and return for another stay.

In a convenient, rather than fashionable, part of Paris - but handy to a series of Metro lines and a 20ish minute walk from the Gare du Nord. The street itself has a number of restaurants of various price levels, especially south of the hotel, and the neighborhood has a higher-than-usual concentration of Asian restaurants. The front desk staff was very welcoming and competent (and spoke good English, for those to whom it matters). The room was small, but larger than most of its London equivalents at which I've stayed; it was very clean, and well organized. The shower and toilet were across the hall - small (esp the shower room) but spotless. There is free wireless access in the lobby, but not in the rooms. All in all, a cozy place to stay especially for a night or two. I didn't have breakfast - it looked fine, but perhaps not worth 7-8 euros when there are so many good cafes/boulangeries etc in Paris.

My second time staying with the Monte Carlo. My stay was for 9 nights. Thomas and Oxana is very professional and courteous to all the guests. Wifi is availble only on the 1st floor- strong connection. Shared bathroom and toilets are cleaned throughout the day. The only downside is the stand in shower is smaller than the normal. There are plenty of places to eat around the area. Would return again in the future =)

I love the location. Minutes in a taxi from Gare du Nord (Eurostar) / Gare de l'Est (Eastern destinations), and within walking distance of Moulin Rouge on Boulevard de Clichy. Some fantastic streets around the area with food markets, cafes, etc. Also possible to walk to the river (healthy 30mins). Friendly welcoming. Staff very efficient. Room a little small (as is normal in Paris), but very clean, with modern fittings including small flat-screen TV. Shared bathroom was a little strange, although much cleaner than many built-in bathrooms over the world. For the price, and even more so considering I was visiting during the Rugby World Cup Semi Final weekend, this was brilliant value for money.

I really like this hotel and thought it was a good deal if you are looking for a place to more or less sleep and then venture out in the city. My husband and I had a room with shower and toilet, which were clean. The room itself was rather on the small side; I had no problem with that, but my husband would have enjoyed more room. The staff were very friendly and helped us with our questions and requests, their English was good. The 9 Euro breakfast is a bit pricey, but it is a buffet and it has a lot of choices. We just eat a lot and could therefore have a smaller lunch. One of the best things about this hotel is the location. You are right in the middle of restaurants and bars and there's plenty of them. Two subway stations are close by and Gare de Nord is not far away. Like someone else mentioned, I would spend the 10 Euro for a Taxi to the hotel, since the roads in Paris are confusing, at least for a first time visitor. I did request a room facing the back when I booked it here on Venere and we did get one, which was nice. I would stay there again for sure!

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights. It was for 85 Euros per night for a double-room without toilet and shower. I was a little nervous about that at first but the common shower and toilets turned out to be excellent. Everything was clean and tip top. The staff was also very welcoming and helpful and could speak good English. We also asked for a room facing the back, that was no problem. The only complain we had were a bit noisy neighbours but that can be expected in any hotel on a weekend. We arrived with the Eurostar train at Gare du Nord and walked from the station to the hotel, 10-15 min. Excellent location, I would stay here again.

Hotel is in a great location, close to Metro station and easy walking distance to most major places eg Opera, Gare du Nord, La Fayette, Monmartre. We also walked to the Louvre and Arc Triomphe due to the Metro Strikes. Theres lots of cafes, small shops, food shops in the area, no shortage of places to eat at. The first room we stayed was very noisy especially with the street cleaners early in the morning. When we returned to Paris we stayed in a room at the back of the hotel and it was very quiet.

I've recently returned from a very enjoyable 3-night stay at the Hotel Monte Carlo in Paris. I highly recommend this little gem of a hotel to anyone seeking affordable accommodation, excellent customer service, and a perfectly located base while visiting Paris. I was lucky enough to get a room in the back corner of the top floor of the hotel, so street noise was not an issue at all - extremely quiet. I had a double bed, with no ensuite facilities, for €70 per night. The rooms are quite small (and, unfortunately, not very soundproof) but the size of the room - and the rich, warm colours that the entire hotel is decorated in - only adds to the charm of this hotel. The cat motif is everywhere in the hotel (which I loved); it's a shame the cats are no longer in residence. There was always fresh towels and sheets provided, and a pleasant, fresh scent would prevail after the room had been cleaned. The room itself had everything needed during a visit - telephone, heater, flat-screen TV, in-room sink (with shampoo & shower gel provided), and a safe where you could lock your valuables away and not worry about them being stolen. This is, however, a very safe hotel as is the general area around it. The shared facilities were always fairly busy but the shower & toilet was kept extremely clean; I heard housekeeping cleaning them at various points throughout the day. The bed in my room was incredibly comfortable and you seemed to sink in, yet be firmly supported. The staff at the hotel are very firm about check-in time - they will not allow you to check in prior to 15:00, but if you do arrive early they will hold your luggage at Reception while you explore Paris until check in time. A cold buffet-style breakfast is provided each morning, which is absolutely delicious. I did feel, though, that €9 is a little steep in price but there is a wide variety of food and plenty of it. You can get a cheaper breakfast in the area around the hotel, but it will be Continental.

This a comfortable, non-nonsense, cozy hotel. The staff was always pleasant and helpful. An easy 10 minute walk from the Opera, and a block from the Cadet metro, this hotel is very nicely situated. This place was perfect. We needed a place to stay for only one night. My friend and I had a double room with common shower and toilet on floor. I am always nervous about sharing restrooms, but this was the cleanest I have ever seen. The room was nice and cozy with enough space and a sink in the room which was very convenient. The employees were very helpful, nice, and welcoming. We arrived early that morning and they held our bags until check-in that afternoon and also held them the next day until our flight that evening. The location was great as well. Close to metro, and plenty of places to eat nearby. I highly recommend staying here. My only regret was not having more time to actually spend at the hotel in its wonderful environment.

Rooms leave much to be desired but service and attitude of personnel is very good. Very helpful and courteuos. Excellent response to requests. Surrounding environment is very good. Rooms not too insulated from exterior sounds but are good enough for just sleeping. Not much room to move around though. But o all the things I value is the attitude of the personnel especially the front desk and cleaning people. Very, very good.

This was a great choice. 350 Euros for 7 nights in Paris is a steal in May. Great central district with everything easily within walking distance and a metro 2 blocks away. Lots of tourist focused restaurants on the street, but a few gems within 4 blocks as well. Great bars and shopping nearby as well. Staff was very polite and helpful. The hallways need new carpet, but thats about the biggest problem. No curfew, Engloish spoken (or they would meet me partway with my broken French). Shared bathroom was always clean, towels always changed. Small desk and a sink in my little room - perfect size for taking in the city then coming back to unwind and do a little painting. One note: I would recomend taking a taxi from Gare du Nord if you have never been to Paris though, as the Paris street maps can be a little confusing at first. Would absolutley stay here again.

I had booked the rooms for 4 nights. Overall the location is great and the rooms are clean. It can be a little confusing being listed as shared/public WC. Noise level was not a problem as I stayed at the hotel in December 2006. The owner Thomas is a great help too, offering great advice and recommendations. This owner operated hotel is very detailed and meticulous too. I misplaced my phone and went back later that week and 1) They knew who I was, not even to have to look at the computer for info 2) Called house service 3) Took down my new contact information in case they do find the phone. Would be returning in the future Lindsay C.

We stayed 5 nights in Hotel Monte Carlo, it's really a lovely place. And the free internet access is especially convenience to us. But the only problem is the heating system seems not working very good, it's a little cold in winter.

The Hotel Monte Carlo was the perfect place to end a 3 week trip to Europe. And at 39 euro a night, a bargin. Yes there was some noise from other rooms, but hey, you are only using the room for a place to sleep. I didn't try the breakfast that is offered for 7 euro. But the location is perfect!! I walked everywhere from the hotel. And there is every kind of store/service on the main street the hotel is on within a 5 minute walking distance. I highly recommend The Hotel Monte Carlo.

Hotel Monte Carlo is top, I loved it. Thanks to the staff my stay was even better. I had been following the internet opinions of previous Monte Carlo guests and am far from disappointed. The hotel is centrally located with easy access to main city sights and transportation to and from airport. Well kept room, comfortable, pleasant and even cosy. Generous breakfast to begin well the day. Clear and uninterrupted internet connection for free. This is true catering well beyond its two-star category, a worthy recommendation.

This is a hotel just to sleeep. The rooms are very clean and the staff is friendly. Is the best option to stay in a "low-cost" hotel.

The hotel was very clean, and this includes the shared toilets and showers. No complaints really, I was pleasantly surprised. My room was facing the road and was quite noisy. On a positive note, it was also relatively spacious. I stayed there for two nights, could leave my luggage there on the day of departure, and best of all: I could walk from there down to the river Seine (Louvre, etc.) and up to Montmatre as well as to the Gare du Nord. It's never more than, say, 20-30 minutes on foot, which for a capital city I think is really good. Would definitely recommend and stay there again, although with young children it could be better to have own WC (just for practical reasons). There was a wash basin in the room, though!

Regarding the price, you could have expected a quiet room which was not the case at all! Poor climatization! Fortunately, the staff managed to give us a quieter room for the second night!

Room cleanliness somewhat iffy; great location around the hotel and reasonably close to good sites for people who want to walk around. Less good for people wanting to depend on the metro to get around. The elevator was out of service for some hours - I wouldn't necessarily depend on it being available. Reception staff was amenable but not particularly friendly.

Good quality/price ratio. Had problems with accepting the VISA card (technical problem) so I had to pay with cash. The room was 3x4 sqm, had shower/toilet, TV, big bed (for 1 person :). Breakfast for 7 euros, acceptable, not too many choices. Overall I am content with this hotel, I would go there again and I would also recommend it.

Old carpets with cigarette holes. One bathroom for like 15 rooms ! Doors are paper thin and you can hear the banging. Alarms went off 7:30 am Sunday morning for 20 minutes because of burnt toast. I was up on the fourth floor. Staff don't seem to able to explain where the buses are.

We found the room small but sufficient seeing as it is only a 2 star. The bathroom was minute but newly tiled and very clean. The accomodation served it's purpose. The proximity was great and we managed to walk to many viewsights and metro was close. Only gripe is that we could only check into our room at 3pm - after a long flight , that was a bit disappointing.

Really good for the price you pay! I had some trouble confirming my reservation with one staff member whose English wasn't very good but the other people were very helpful and nice! I was woken once by someone's TV in the morning but it was ok. Generally I really liked the place and would definately recommend it!

The staff is friendly but they all seem to be very very afraid of something (the boss maybe?). They looked very scared all the time. The hotel is quite cute with two beautiful cats living in the lobby. The whole hotel smell of fungus, so if you're allergic don't stay here. Besides that everything is ok. The location is perfect. Close to at least two subwaystations on different lines. Walking distance to Montemarte. Rooms are clean enough. It's worth the money considering the prices in Paris and the location of the hotel. But don't expect anything extra. Remember that they charge extra for the breakfirst so eat that somewhere else. If you're travelling on low budget, like us, this might be the solution.
