This was a beautiful old building, Hausmann style and had an attractive lobby with seating and TV and internet booths. Just no smoking area unfortunately for us. They are planning to furnish the outside courtyard for that purpose. The breakfast area smelt musty as did the corridors-not enough ventilation. The lift needed servicing and there was no outdoor area . However, across the road is an excellent Cafe with the BEST cafe meals we had in France. Open from 7.30am until late, that served our eating, drinking and smoking needs very well. We loved their welcome too. Metro, trains and buses all easily accessed from Hotel Magenta, altho Taxi drivers were displeased taking us to Gard de Nord."It is easy walk!" 2 of them said. Ha, not with my heavy luggage!

We had a triple room, small with very little closet space. This is expected for Paris hotel though, and for the price, we were very happy with the room. Location was convenient to the Metro. Breakfast was good. Elevator is helpful. Free internet access with multiple terminals in nice lobby.

We had only a one night stay. Welcome, beds and breakfast were appropriate in a way, that we were satisfied and could concentrate only on our planned visiting program. The distance to the Gare de L'Est was only 5 minutes walking. The hotel offered the possibility of storing the luggage prior to check-in and after check-out. This means that we can recommend the hotel without any restrictions.

A little expensive for the area and quality of the hotel. The room was a little noisey, I could hear people in the rooms above and next door talking. Good breakfast though. The staff were friendly and spoke good English. Check-in time of 3pm is a little late in my opinion. You can leave your luggage in the luggage room though. Close to Gare de L'Est and Gare du Nord (15 min walk). The closest major metro station is Republique.

Decent location, a 10 minute walk to Gare Du Nord and about 6 minute walk from Gare de L'Est. While the room was not exactly spacious, it was adequate. The rooms were quiet. A good selection of channels on the tv. A good selection for breakfast and generous breakfast times. Check in time after 3pm is a bit of a nuisance if you arrive early.

We stayed fm May 30th to June 1st 2009. Old building totally renewed but rooms & bathrooms very small ( premium room ! so imagine standard and individual ). Expensive if not booked in advance. Breakfast is the best !!. Close to subway Jacques Bonsergent and 10 min fm Gare du Nord (ideal to come/go fm/to Charles de Gaulle ).

I stayed four nights at the Hotel Magenta. Very welcoming staff, although the "few steps" from the 6th floor lift to the 7th floor was actually a winding flight of stairs! The hotel is very convenient for public transport - the Metro and the bus stop are very close, but be warned, when you go back to the Gare du Nord the bus doesn't drop you at the front, but round the back and I made the mistake of going down in the nearest lift and finding myself with no exit unless I had a metro ticket so I had to go back up in he lift and belt across to the escalators. After that it was easy to follow this signs to Eurostar, but I did arrive a bit breathless. I had a large single (705) with shower. The wardrobe was a bit tricky to access and the mini-bar very expensive (€3 per soft drink), but I could get BBC Worldwide on the TV. There was a safe and a freestanding air-contioner lurking in the wardrobe, but as it was April I didn't need it. Would definitely go back, but probably not on the 7th floor!

Glen Covarrubias y Familia (VENEZUELA)

An excellent hotel, with very quiet rooms, very well sound proofed between, with the only noise cominng from magenta bvd. The rooms are excactly as shown in internet photos, the public areas as well. The breakfast was perfect, in quallity and in quantity as well. I believe that it was a perfect choise, and if I return to Paris I would very much like to stay there again. The only thing I recomend to the hotel management is to put an automatic logic system to the elevator.

The blowdryer was not working and it took them long to repair. Also, I was a bit shocked when out of nowhere a guy entered my room without knocking. It was the repair guy and he entered without informing me before hand. It was scary because I thought a stranger had access to my room. And it was around early in the morning and I could have been still sleeping that time.

Overall, my stay at this hotel was very good. The location is convenient for both the Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est - about a ten to fifteen minute walk (though, a more difficult if you have lots of luggage, as it is uphill from hotel to the stations). I would certainly stay here again if I was coming/going via either of the stations. It is also a short walk to various Metro stops. The room was very clean, especially the bathroom, which was very spacious and one of the nicest bathrooms I've encountered in an affordable European hotel. The room itself (a single) was tiny - not much room to walk around, but that was fine, as I wasn't in the room much. I had a single room like the one pictured in the photo...it's pretty accurate, though it does make the room appear slightly more spacious and airy than it is. Breakfast was fine, but crowded, and it was difficult to find a seat two or three times (I was there for six nights). I wasn't thrilled with the restaurant options in the immediate area, but that could be because I'm vegetarian. I think that if the location is good for you, and you want a clean, reasonably-priced place to stay for a short or longer stay, given the location and cleanliness of the hotel, it's definitely a good choice. It served as a very good base from which to explore the city, and it was nice coming back to my tiny but nice room at night.

Did not give high rating for public area of hotel as it was under refurbishment at the time of our stay (Nov 2008) but this in no way affected the overall high quality of this hotel. Location is excellent - only 10-15 minutes walk from Grad de l'Est and Gare Du Nord railway stations. There are many restaurants situated in the Place de la Republic which is a few minutes walk down the Boulevard de Magenta. In fact the quaintly decorated Harmonie Bar right opposite the Hotel provides excellent value food.

I booked the hotel because it had aircon and a lift.I was given a room on the 7th floor, in the hot roof, which did not have aircon only a blower. the lift went only to the 6th floor so I had to walk up a long flight with my luggage.I am 72 years old and try to avoid such things. We have spent almost a week in Hotel Magenta and in overall we are very satisfied with the service received. The hotel is located in the centre close to the Gare du Nord railway station, which is very comfortable if someone visit Paris by train. The hotel was really nice and clean with internet facilities at the hall and wireless in the rooms. The rooms are cute but a little bit small, but its most like a standard in Paris. Breakfast was excellent for a good price. (incl. in the room price) Staff was always helpful and has a good knowledge about the city.

This hotel was a marvelous discovery and I recommend it unstintingly. I will certainly stay here on any future visits - the staff are knowledgeable, helpful, and service oriented. The breakfast was an ample buffet with splendid coffee (and a fine range of teas); the bathroom was immaculate and had forcefully running water even on the top floor. The quality outshone that of similarly priced hotels I have stayed at the 15-20 times I have been in Paris before. And wireless internet for free! A couple of blocks from Place de la Republique; less than a block from nearest metro; 2 minutes from Gare de L'Est, and 10-15 minute walk from Gare du Nord.

The hotel was ok. Compared to the price and location in Paris, I think it was good. In general, I have to say that this arrondisment is not a highlight and for a romantic weekend you should better stay in St. Germain, but since we wanted to be quite central to Montmatre, Opera and Marais, it was ok. If you walk, it takes you around 45 min. to Louvre, 30 min to Centre Pompidou and about 15 to Place de la Republic -but the bistros and restaurants there I wouldn't recommend, so in the evening we always took a taxi to Marais or Opera. The breakfast was ok, nothing special. But anyway, if you're in Paris, the most of your time you spent in the city and therefore it was a good stay.

We stayed in a premier triple room which was just completed the renovation. Therefore the fresh paint smell was very strong. We were at the 2nd level where only 2 rooms were occupied including ours, the rest of rooms (more than 4) are still undergoing renovation. Most of the staffs in the hotel were nice and helpful, but one lady in the front desk was unprofessional. Breakfast was nice. Over all I think we will stay there again if we are in Paris, as it's convenient location and nice staffs. Hopefully the renovation works will be finished soon and no more smells.

We had a very nice triple room, taking into account that hotel rooms in Paris are always a bit tiny: we did not have to move the bed to get to the locker. Breakfast was very good (fresh fruit salad, various sorts of bread and croissants, Müsli, "English" breakfast). Very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back again.
