It was great location - easy to get with metro whatever place you want (closest metro to hotel is Menilmontant around 100m from hotel). Pay attention that you can book room with no shower and toilet. Even if you have them in your room you can hear very well those who are using common toilet (their going to toilet, door cutting at the time you sleep). Room and bathroom is very very small. In our room we didn`t have wardrobe (strange for me). Wi-fi what they promissed I couldn`t catch.

Facinating Pere Lachaise cometary just up the road and lots of small restaurants with character in the neighbourhood. Metro very close by. Our room with tiny en-suite (number 2 off the stairs) was very noisy and difficult to get into, but there are probably quieter rooms. Great bakery right next door (Croixant aux almands is yum!)

Les Chansonnier is a lovely small family hotel, a friendly place to stay with a typical parisian vibe, and close to the most alive neighbours where you can try the real alternative and bohemienne cultural life of the capital. Altough well connected to the city centre (metro is just 5mins walk) the hotel is in a quiet and cheap district, with many bistrot, nice cafè and markets. The Hotel Cafè downstairs is charming, with exotic furniture, music in the evenings, cheap drinks and the owners'cat sweetly welcoming guests.

A good location, close to the metro, canal st martin, shops, and the price reflected what you got. We had problems with the internet connection not working in the room. Also the double bed had a lot of roll-together happening. But overall we were quite happy.

Our stay at Les Chansonniers was excellent, staff was great, rooms were very clean better then we expected for the price and location. When visiting Paris this is a great place for the price. Also, for all you Jim Morrison fans this hotel is only 10 minutes away from the cemetry where he is buried. Location is great for all you travellers who like to take the metro it is right outside the door.

- The rooms were quite small and smelled of smoke, even though it was a non-smoking room. - Located very close to a metro station which made it easy to reach from the airport (CDG) and easy to reach the city centre and tourist attractions. -The bathroom ran out of toilet paper and was not replaced for a full day. -Lots of restaurants nearby and a really good bakery right next door.

This was a perfect hotel for us. Very cheap for a great little french hotel in a lovely part of Paris. Two minute walk from the metro and we walked to notre dame/pompidou twice which took only 20mins and was a great way to see more of Paris you might not see otherwise. My sister and I stayed for three nights and the staff were very helpful and very friendly, the room was small but clean and warm, the bed was comfortable, with a sink in the room. The shared bathroom was fine there was never much of a queue for the toilet or the shower and everything was kept very clean. The bar on the weekend played live music with local French people making us feel so welcome. The local bars and cafes on our street and also on rue oberkamf were quirky and lively and felt very safe with GREAT prices and were just far enough away to have no noise in the hotel. The breakfast isnt included but the bakery just next door had unbelievable croissants and the cafes all around served great coffee. I couldnt recommend this hotel and this area more.

A bargain for Paris @46E/double. Rooms are small, but clean, kept up well. True, toilet is down the hall and only one shower (2nd floor), but it fits the price. The lobby has a bar, serves a good "continental" breakfast (7E), complete with fresh-squeezed orange juice from oranges from the nearby grocery. Bread and croissants come from boulangerie across the street. Unlimited coffee, milk, and granola. Live music on Saturday nights (free). Staff very friendly, speak adequate English. Charming!

Be cautious before you book this hotel. Of course, paying 46 euros per night in Paris will not get you a 4 star hotel, but in my opinion, that's not super cheap either. Here are a few things to keep in mind. The room is super, duper small. You can't open the door without hitting the bed. There's a tiny desk and chair in the room and one of those hospital TVs on the wall (we never turned on the tv). There's also the tiniest sink and bidet in the bedroom separated by a half partition. The bed was incredibly squeaky, which made having sex hilarious because the walls are extremely thin. The bed is barely big enough to fit two people. The floor is also very squeaky and I was woken up many times by people walking in the hallway. I'm not a light sleeper, but since the bed is so close to the door... well.. There's one toilette and one shower on the second floor (where I stayed). These are shared between 20+ people. Somehow it works out though; perhaps the people that were staying at the same time as me didn't shower as frequently. The Internet does NOT work in your room. U have to go downstairs to use it. Their breakfast is terrible (and expensive) and the staff can barely speak English. They only gave us one towel b/t the two of us and they don't offer bath soap or shampoo, so bring your own. Menilmontant, the area where Les Chansonniers is located, is a sad place. The only thing that's interesting is Pere Lachaise b/c Jim Morrison is buried there. It's a 2 min walk from Menilmontant station and a 5 min walk to Pere Lachaise.

Stayed there for 3 nights. The bath was very small, but OK. Have seen worse baths. Free WLAN. You get the key at the reception. But in the second floor the signal was to weak. We had to go downstairs. The Metro (Subway) is 2 minutes away. You could get to the city in 20 minutes. There are also supermarkets around the hotel. We decided to take a parking garage for 66 € (3 nights). The hotel offers you to park the car on the street for 10 € per day. But for us it seemed quiet insecure. It´s just a little bit noisy but thats normal in a big city. On the TV we had only french stations. Reception was friendly and spoke english. I can recommend it to young people who just want to see the city.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel certainly has a family feel to it and we enjoyed our stay there. The room was a little cramped, not what the photo on the website showed, but the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom nice and the cleanliness excellent. The hotel was about 3k distant from the center but the Metro was only a short walk. Marvelous street markets 2 days a week and live music in the hotel on weekends.

The hotel location is ok - it is a few hundred meters from the Metro station. But not two hundred meters to the cemetery :) it should be around 0.5 mile to walk. The street was not noisy, even on friday, when there is a market day! A few nice cafes around to spend evening or have breakfast. Maybe they have a nice room with the bath and nice tiles on the walls, but that was not what we have been placed into :) The shower room was realy small (same for the room!), and the toilet was realy stinky.. and that flush sound - it could easily be heard from the other floors as well! Nobody cared to keep silence at night, we were woken by new guests guided to their rooms several times. Beds were not comfortable, furniture realy old. I've found someones earring in the bedding.. I do not recommend this hotel if You like to spend some romantic time in Paris!

We gave 6 for cleanliness not because it was not clean enough, but during a 4 night stay we had to ask several times for shampoo and only then it was provided. That was the only real minus. Otherwise you can always wish for more but you cannot have luxuries for a budget price. So thank you, it was a nice stay

Our room was small, as expected in a European hotel. The bathroom and shower were down the hall but cleaned frequently. Although the facilities were located down the hall, there was a bidet and a small sink in the room. The room itself had stains in the carpet and the paint was peeling a bit near the ceiling, but it was charming and a good price split between people. The communal area was nice and there was a small performance there one night. There are nice cafes nearby and a good bakery across the street (great for breakfast if you don't want to pay more for the hotel breakfast). We stayed there for 5 nights and were perfectly comfortable.

Everything was just fine and as expected - except for one thing. In the middle of the night we woke up. Strange sound, just like someone knocking on the door. We realized it was the sound of dribbling water from the room above landing right next to my ear on the carpet. Went down to tell the receptionist who responded by telling the person above to turn the tap off and moving our bed a few inches away from the wet spot slowly expanding into a puddle. That was it - not even on the next day further measures were taken. Nevertheless - we'll come again.

They should clearly write that internet is not available in rooms, only at the reception and they close reception at night at 2 AM. This was misleading information. There was incredibly high noise in nights. This is very basic budget hotel. And rooms are on 1st and second floor without any lift! Stairs between each floor are so many as if you would feel you are climbing two floors to reach 1. Doesn't deserve more than €30 per room per night.

We were on a tight budget and didn't have high expectations of this hotel considering the price, but were very pleasantly surprised! The rooms had everything we needed, were bright and sunny and were cleaned everyday, including a new towel. We loved the area in the quirky north east of the city, great markets and cheap eats meant that we came in well under budget on this trip. The metro and buses were very handy to get to the city centre, we even walked on a couple of occations - a beautiful 45 min stroll to Norte Dame! The only draw back is the noisy street the hotel is on, the windows are double glazed but there is no air con so if you are staying in the hotter months you might be in for hot and/or noisy nights.

The rooms were quite small, and extremely dirty and smelly. The carpets were disgusting. It almost spoilt our romantic weekend in paris. There was only one shower and one wc. for a whole plant of the hotel. The rooms were incredibly small.. almost no space left between the bed and the wall. Good things, they cleaned the rooms everyday, and the staff was quite nice and spoke English

We wanted an economical and typical French family run hotel that was not in an English speaking tourist area, where we had easy access to both real French life and the standard tourist attractions. We would recommend eating at the the Aux Jeux De Pom restaurant a few doors down and must visit the Graveyard on Rue de Menilmontant.

The area is in an average neighborhood, however, there are many conveniences nearby; subway, groceries,Internet, phone, cafes, tobacco shop, fast food etc. The hotel is older and charming. The owners are really putting great effort in to fixing it up and they are extremely helpful and polite! The hotel was kept very clean, and it seemed we always came back to a staff that was busy cleaning and caring for the guests and it's surroundings. My mother and I had a wonderful stay in Paris at the Hotel for four days! The price was very fair and it is easy to navigate to various attractions in the city. Located near the metropolitan subway line 2...then take subway line 1 at "Nation" to all the major attractions! Around 25-30 minutes to the "Arc de Triuomph!" Once I reached my next destination, there were other travelers that I highly recommend the hotel to! Enjoy your stay~

Interesting arrondissement, but lots of noise. Decent cheap places to eat/drink nearby. Cimitière Père Lachaise is a great nearby attraction. Hotel staff are polite; room was cleaned every night. In general the hotel was good - the biggest problem was having one toilet and one shower for a floor with around 20 rooms (its possible that some of these rooms had toilets - but certainly there was a very low toilet:people ratio). Otherwise it was clean, friendly staff, great location with markets out front, grungy paris cafes/pubs within metres. Checkout the nearby cemetery with the graves of Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison

We stayed (me and partner) in a room with a bathroom, the room was spacious, with a good bed, a tidy bathroom (bath and shower), a few chairs and a fridge. The room's windows could be opend, so the room was very bright, but thanks to a shutter system the light and sounds could be blocked from the room, so at night the room was silent. Most rooms in the hotel do not have a bathroom, but the toilet and shower in the hallway were very clean. The hotel is very close to two metrostations.

Great location if you want to stay in a non-tourist area. Lots of bars and restaurants, and only 300 m from the Metro. We rented bikes from the public Velo system (1 euro per day + free of charge if you change your bike within 30 minutes). Great!! we biked all the way to the Eiffel tower. I could not get the wifi in the hotel to work, but I was able to log on to another wireless network. The breakfast was not really worth it, but OK.

Myself and 3 friends all aged 21 LOVED this hotel. Was right next to a Metro so really easy to get into the centre of Paris. Even around the hotel there were many lovely restaurants and bars. The hotel itself was clean, the showers were always hot, and the prices in the hotel bar were unbelievably cheap, especially for Paris. On our last night the bar man even gave us all a free glass of wine! So nice would definitely go back. You won't get anything cheaper this good.

The room was so little that we can't go to the toilette and dans sit right, we have to sit beside. When we ant to take a shower we didn't have enough towel, so we had to go down stair and ask for. I was in Paris traveling with daughter for the second time and this was an amazing hotel for being 2 stars. Lugging suitcases up the narrow flight of stairs wasn't fun, but the hotel staff took one of the suitcases to help. The hotel room was small but clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were wonderful!

Quiet nice little hotel in calm quarter, 100m from the Metro station, surrounded by restaurants and various small shops. staff very nice and welcomming, helpful, speaks english. local people come here for breakfast or coffee, little chat with the staff. some days they have live music in the evening. very good chief in the restaurant. we were very satisfied, I recommend it and give my 5/5.

I was worried that the low cost of this hotel would mean that the neighborhood was sketchy or the hotel incredibly basic. Instead we found a modest hotel on a busy but safe street with very friendly owners/employees. The room was small but very clean with an updated bathroom. The downstairs bar/restaurant was very charming with congenial, English speaking staff. Wifi did not work in the rooms but bar was open and welcomed Wifi only hotel patrons. Wifi worked great there. I'd stay here again if i returned to Paris. Wonderful experience and for such a reasonable price.

We arrived to find they only expected to give us one room instead of the pre-booked two. Then a second room was 'found' but without the pre-booked shower, after much huffing and puffing they found another room, which turned out to have a double bed when a twin was booked - on complaining again, I was told I could go and find another hotel!!! I asked to see the manager - he 'wasn't working' - I insisted the girl at least phone him - I got the famous 'continental shrug' from her and a 'what do you want me to do? I have no rooms. Only when I continued to remonstrate with her and show her the booking form that had been confirmed some FIVE MONTHS earlier, did one of her colleagues agree to sort something out, which consisted of moving the double bed out and two single beds into the room previously show to us. There was no apology, no effort to get things sorted. When the manager turned up 2 days later he just asked who we'd booked with and tutted when I showed him my reservation. The rooms were very small, so much so that one of us had to sit on the bed to enable the other one to move around. We didn't try and food or drinks - after that reception I wouldn't give them a penny more of buisness. Instead we had breakfast at a lovely cafe across the road where the contrast in service couldn't have been better - it was the saving grace of our stay!!

This friendly hotel, off the beaten path but near Pere Lachaise, is on a cute, bustling little street in a multi-cultural neighborhood. Very good cafes and grocery stores on the street, and on Tuesdays, a great farmer's market right outside the hotel with fantastic veggies and gourmet fish and meats! The staff was very nice and conversational. The coffee in the cafe on the first floor is excellent and the staff gave me trays to take it up to the room. I didn't get a chance to eat there. Wet bar is stocked with beer, water and soda, with room to put your own bevs in (a refrigerator like this can be hard to come by in a budget hotel in Paris). I loved the big windows and very tall ceilings in our particular room. Don't miss the walk down Rue Oberkampf just around the corner; it is a charming street with lots of food and clothes shopping and cozy little bars that are busy with locals and music on weekends. There is an excellent cafe on the corner near the hotel called Bistro or Cafe Menilmontant. Les Chansonniers is a great place to stay; I was grateful for it. Bike rentals relatively close by (and Velibs right outside), and the Menilmontant metro stop is less than a block from the hotel door. Simple bed with clean linens. Nice curtains. Edith Piaf Museum also nearby (by appointment). Park bikes in the street median, not the sidewalk where the hotel is (busy with deliveries). Note: US credit cards do not work in the Velib machines (Oct 2007). Get a pre-paid credit card valid for the bike deposit and travel fees at a French bank; see if that works.

My worst experience in Paris ever. There's a "lady" in the staff (try to not check-out with her) that couldn't be more unmannered and careless. Almost one whole day without hot water and room heating (I stayed only 2!), staff enters the room while you're in... etc, etc, etc. I thought of asking for a partial refund, but I'd better forget about it. It would be OK for less money. But my single en-suite didn't worth 59€ per night! Please avoid this hotel! You can find cheaper and better ones, and in a better location, closer to the center.

Ideal location with several handy stores and a supermarket nearby (very reasonable Muscadet €1.80 per bottle) as well as a wide array of competitively priced restaurants, cafes and brasseries. The location, character and atmosphere of the hotel would definitely encourage me to stay here again.

This is a somewhat strange hotel being as the public area is really 'public' being a cafe/bar for anyone coming in off the street to use. Nothing actually wrong with this as it does have a certain character but there did not seem to be a private public area either which some might find irritating. One point bearing in mind is that people in the cafe smoke. My main disappointments were: 1) I could not look my room door from the inside and apparently the cleaners could not lock it from the outside as I came back one day and found the door open. 2) The shower head was broken and therefore spurted water all over the bathroom 3) The main receptionist was not particularly friendly and once was quite rude even for a French person. What made this worse was that as soon as one of his acquaintances came in off the street he was very friendly

Staff very friendly amd helpful. Breakfast good value at 6 Euros. Area looked dodgy but was fine with some good restaurants for eating nearby. good position for metro and Pere Lachaise a 10 minute walk. Room was small but good enough for me and the wife.

At first, my friend and I were a bit skeptical about the district as it is quite multi-cultural. Our concern primarily was for our safety since it was just us girls travelling. As it turned out, it added charm to our stay there. People were just friendly (and we don't speak French at all!). The shower is small (we have our own in the room) but it is as expected in a budget accommodation. The employees are really friendly and were nice even if we had to check out at an ungodly hour. If you are a light traveller, then you won't have a problem going up the stairs. Otherwise, it may be a challenge.

One week french course, and wanted hotel close to the school, which it was. Simple but ok. I stayed in single room, bathroom small, and little warderobe facilities, but corresponding to price. Did not like to have breakfast where people from the street came to the bar and were smoking in the same room as breakfast was served. Friendly and helpful staff. Perfect location for my school.

Good location, right near metro in a fun neighborhood, lots of good reasonable food around, nice street. Room window overlooked side alley, so pretty quiet. On arrival, though, they had us booked for one double instead of two twin beds, but were able to get that sorted out. Room only had towels for one and, despite the overall impression of cleanliness in the room, there were some bugs in the bathroom.

Quiet, quaint hotel in a good location. Good value for the money. However, our room was not completely clean- a few bugs (one IN the sheets), stained bedding, "well used" comforter, and dirty carpet. TINY bathroom, and after my shower, there wasn't enough hot water for my boyfriend's. The fridge was well stocked with beer and soda (2 euros each), and the breakfast in the morning looked lovely (but we ate at a cafe instead). We only stayed one night, and slept pretty well, but probably would have switched hotels if we had planned to stay another night. For the price, the hotel is not bad, but you could certainly do better!

Very good hotel. We stayed for 4 nights and the service was in top. The hotel is located among the local people so you will se Paris in another way. Can recomment the hotel, it is very good compared to the price.
