This was my second time in Paris and I have to admit the location is amazing. It's pretty close to Gare de L'est and there's everything there: currency exchange, supermarkets, restaurants, banks, internet cafes. So in case you need any of these, it's a walking distance. The breakfast is 5.50 EUR but I'm not sure if it's totally worth it. It is a piece of bread, a croissant, coffee and juice. I took it every day because it was convenient and quick. The station it is near is connected to a lot of the most touristic spots in Paris. The hotel is quite old and the most inconvenient thing was that it had no elevator and I had heavy luggage which I had to carry upstairs to floor 3.

I knew from the comments that there is no lift but to have to carry a big suitcase up 5 floors on a very narrow staircase is still not all that great... The real problem was the smell of the bathroom though - horrible! And probably to try to quench this the whole room smelled of disinfectant, yuck. Not recommandable

The photos on the web page probably correpond to some rooms in this hotel but not to the one I was given. I spent only one night at this hotel where I found a minimalist welcome. I booked a room with a double bed even if I travelled alone, but I got a small one. The room had not been properly cleaned and the linen had not been changed (I found dust on the floor corners, and hairs on the pillow). It did not smell well. It is almost impossible to move in the tiny bathroom. At breakfast, I had to wait until the server realized that I was there. I should have served myself as a Russian women did for her family. I found disgusting to see an employee sorting out the sale linen beside the bar where breakfasts were being prepared. A rather dissapointing place to stay in Paris.

The hotel was what I expected for the price. Suited our needs, as we were out from early morning till late at night. Best thing was it's location. Only 5 mins from the Gare de l'Est, and Chateau d'Eau metro. Plus a great Monoprix supermarket at the end of the road. The hotel staff were very friendly, and helpful, and we could leave our bags there on the last day until we needed them. The area was a bit rough, which didn't worry me, or my son (17), but my daughter (15) was a bit uncomfortable. Like all hotels of that calibre, there is no lift, and as we were on the 5th floor, it was a bit of a hike! Good exercise though. The cleaning ladies left fresh towels everyday, and the room was fine, although a kettle and small fridge would have been great. I felt safe and it was a great trip, and would definitely stay there again.

Free Tourist maps do not show Rue Jarry (street name). Hotel Jarry is clean and daily change of towel, toiletries are done. Biggest concern is there is no elevator. Using spiral staircase with 18 narrow steps each floor. Customers with heart or breathing conditions be advised. Uses futon beds. Skipped the 5Euro breakfast opted to eat at numerous restaurants, cafes that dot the area. Surrounding area could be intimidating at night but just be careful and keep extra attention to whatever you are doing. Very polite and helpful staff. St Laurent Catholic church is a 3 mins walk and daily mass services are offered. Ok if staying 1 night. More than 2 nights, I will search and read reviews of other hotels more diligently.

Staff is good and willing to help you. Family-room what was booked was not available. Parking for car was public-parking, €31,= per day. You'll have to ask for the free wifi. Breakfast was good and as said small. Surroundings are in a nice neighborhood with overall African-French people. No problems at all. Good restaurants in neighborhood, try Pianobar near Gare Est.

the printing of our boarding-passes that we sent by. mail to the hotel has been done immediately, very good service for such a little hotel. the room was very small but we could find all we needed. the room was very clean, but the bed was very narrow (for us big enough, but we are both slim). also the bathroom with basin, toilett and shower was very small and narrow. unfortunately there was sometimes a very bad smell from the sewerage pipes in the room. the heating worked well.

Right off the top, be aware that there is no lift and access to all rooms is via a narrow and rather steep spiral staircase. That said, the room was small. The bathroom was tiny, but overall cleanliness of the spartan rooms was more than acceptable. Jarry is about a 15 to 20 minute walk from the Seine, which for the price is acceptable. It is close to good inexpensive restaurants, and a short, though confusing walk, from the the Gare du Nord.

This is a very interesting hotel. It is exactly what it is. It is an old Paris * hotel, it is an area of narrow streets and narrow buildings. All the buildings have "spiral" staircases and no elevators. If you know Paris history you will know what to expect. The Jarry is one star (City of Paris rating) but given that category it is one of the best of it's kind. A five star, one star hotel. We were well looked after by the staff, the breakfast was typical "continental breakfast" Juice, croisant, bread, butter, jam and a large cup of coffee. It costs 5.50 euros. In a bar at the Gare De L'Est similar costs 8 euros. Breakfast is served until quite late in the day, 11 a.m. I love this area of the 10th. very lively, cosmopolitan, lots of north African, Pakistani, Muslim, oriental faces. Life here is lived on the street and some might find this intimidating, but we love it, and the variety of produce and the restaurants and cafes that such a population brings. At the Jarry the staff between them speak 5 languages and as such are able to be very helpful The room was small, but big enough, the shower/wc/washbasin room was big enough. I have stayed in more expensive hotels with worse showers. Bed was comfortable and clean. Sheets and towels (plentiful) were changed everyday. Good space to store luggage. When we checked out we were able to use our room up til noon and leave our bags until we needed them at 10p.m.and had access to them through the day. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Jarry and will stay again.

As a whole, my experience with this hotel was great. If all you need is a clean comfortable room for the night, then this is your place. The bathroom in our room looked newly remodeled. Although wi-fi isn't available in the room, they do offer it in the lounge located in the lobby. REMEMBER you're in the heart of the city, so you're going to be able to hear city noises. I'd also recommended mapping out your journey to the hotel. We were arriving later at night and found it difficult to find. Easy once you actually do find it! I would certainly return to this property again.

This was the first time i ever stayed in a hotel. the staff was very welcoming, the room was really very nice. i was travelling with 2 other friends of mine and we were very comfortable. there was hot running water, the toilet and bath were attached, and were well kept. There are lots of halal restaurants near the gare de nord and gare de l'est area. there is one halal restaurant just at the end of the street where the hotel is. The area was a bit rough, but if you mind your own business, no one would even notice you. very very near Gare de l'est and Gare de nord.

HOTEL JARRY IS THE MOST WORST HOTEL THAT I'VE LIVED IN THE EUROPE. I CAN HEAR THE WATER FELLED DOWN TO THE PIPE VERY LOUDLY AND SOUND COMES FROM OTHER ROOMS VERY CLEARLY. I LEFT THE HOTEL IN THE EARLY MORNING BECAUSE MY FLIGHT AT 7AM. THEY GIVE ME THE ROOM IN THE 4TH FLOOR AND NO LIFT. MY LUGGAGE WAS VERY HEAVY. I NEEDED TO SEPARATE MY STUFF 2 TIMES TO TAKE THEM TO THE RECEPTION AND REARRANGE THEM AGAIN. I ASKED THE RECEPTION " could you turn on the light for me because very dark and I need to rearrange my luggage?" THE ANSWER REALLY SURPRISED ME!!!, THE MAN IN THE RECEPTION REPLIED TO ME: " YOU NEED TO ARRANGE YOUR STUFF IN YOUR ROOM..I CAN'T TURN ON THE LIGHT IN THIS TIME." Besides hotel being crappy, with small rooms, no sound isolation, which can be explained by a small price, this hotel has absolutely terrible staff. They were just plainly rude and unwelcoming. Nobody except one person spoke English and made any effort to communicate. They were even as rude as to tell to return them their cups that we took in the room! We had impression that they can very well stay just by themsleves and don't need any tourists. very bad hotel, will never come close to it again!

This is a tough one to rate because it's a budget hotel and you get what you pay for, its not a hidden gem or anything, it's just a grimey little hotel with 6 flights of stairs to walk up with your bags. 43 Euros a night for a private double in central Paris is dirt cheap, so your expectations should be in line. The Pros: Cheap, near metro (a fairly convenient line at that), we were able to drop our bags in their little bar/internet area and leave them there all day since we arrived early and didn't want to break up our one day in Paris with checking in. When we came back at 11 pm, our bags were thankfullly still there, undisturbed, and they gave us the key to our room without any hassles. The room said "shared bathroom" but we actually had a shower and sink in our room which was a good surprise. There was a tiny tv with a couple of staticky channels, nothing in English. The neighborhood seems perfectly decent in the daytime and has lots of stores and cafes and practical stuff you might need. The internet was cheap (free actually the first day since the computer was just on and I used it without paying, the next day I went to the desk and gave them a Euro for my 30 minutes, but there wasn't a need to get a passcode or anything. CONS: So, the neighborhood is a little sketchy at night, and I can't tell if it really is a dangerous neighborhood or if it just *felt* that way to me that night. I was with my boyfriend and he felt the same, but we weren't shaking in our boots or anything. We had to walk up 6 flights of windy stairs with our heavy bags. No offer of help from front desk. So this place only works for young, able-bodied guests I'd say. It was loud, other people were yelling in their rooms and it just felt unsavory...one lady came out of her room and yelled "SILENCE!" and then it got a little quieter. I definitely wanted to stay locked in my room. No AC or fan, not a great choice for hot summer months. The room itself was old and unattractive, the

Since there is no air condition, we had to leave the window open. It is very noisy in this hotel. Garbage truck worked after 10pm. Another hotel is just cross street. We couldn't sleep on first day as four of the employees (I guess) stood in front of their hotel front door talking loudly over mi-night. We could also hear traffic noise. I think the Hotel Jarry is good if you are all day long outside visiting Paris and you have to leave to the Hotel at 7 am or 8 am and back at 10 pm or 11 pm. the room is very small but you don´t need more space if you are not in the hotel. All the guests were very respecful. You can find all kind of turist. The most important is the Metro ITS VERY NEAR Gare Du Nord, Gare de l'Est and Chateau Ou. The only inconvenience are the stairs they were very near of our room and you can listen when all the guests are coming. We liked this Hotel.

Compared to the price the hotel was as expected. The toilet and the shower are shared, the toilet was clean but verry narrow. The next metrostation is near by, it was 4 stops to Notre Dame. Since I traveled by car the parking is a negative point which is not mentioned in the description. There is no parking for hotelguests, you have to use the public parking which is not far away but the costs are 24€ for 24 hours. After all if you look for a cheep room in the midle of Paris Jarry Hotel is a good joice.

Think of this hotel as a hostel where you get a private room. The place was clean enough but there was no elevator to take you up if you are on upper floors. But the exercise is good anyways. Note: Overall we are pretty non-demanding travelers. When we arrived at Hotel Jarry, at 1300, we were given the room at the top of six flights of twisty staircase. It was not clean, hairs in the tub, etc. I went back down to see if another room was available and he hands me the keys and says "look around in this room." The room was adequate. Another problem with the desk clerk is that we had to wait about 10 minutes for him to get off the phone while we were standing right in front of him??? What the heck is that? The people that own this hotel are not about to do anything extra to make your stay more comfortable. This hotel is a minimal solution to staying the night in Paris and is not even "cute" for being small. The location is in an alley with other small hotels and would be bearable if the people/owners were really nice. Go here if you don't like service, have really strong shoulders for carrying your bags up stairs and are desperate for the bare necessities.

After walking through the very dodgy area from the metro to the hotel, lots of groups of ethnic males just hanging around and talking at you. Walking in your way. We were glad to get to the relative safety of the hotel. On check in was simply handed a key. No please thank you etc. Room was tiny and stairs were steep but this is paris. So I didnt mind that. What i did mind though was the our room was filthy. Shared bathroom means sharing 1 shower with the whole hotel! You get one pillow and one towel (not the best in a double room for 2. Disgustingly, the bottom sheets were changed daily but the top sheets not. Not even between visitors!!!!! An assortment os stains. Some of the rooms are big. I can say that because I saw in lots of them. Cleaning staff thing it is ok to leave all the doors wide open whilst the go from room to room and floor to floor. so if someonse is criminally minded or opportunistic, your valuables will be gone. Do yourself a favour, spend an extra 15 euro a night and have an enjoyable stay in paris elsewhere.

We booked at the Hotel Jarry because it was the cheapest hotel option available to us. We booked 2 family rooms, for 4 adults and 3 children under 10. The rooms were clean and fairly basic - absolutely sufficient for our needs. It was quiet and entirely suitable for small children. The hotel is close to the station, and in a busy lively area. The area never made us feel unsafe, but single travellers may find it a little intimidating. The hotel is arranged over several floors, and has no lift - this may be important to you!! We felt the hotel was really good value and enhanced our holiday.

This hotel was ok, but the area surrounding it was the dirtiest I have ever seen Paris. The metro stop entrances were surrounded by people shouting and harrassing everyone coming out of the metro. We just decided to walk up to the train station to catch it most of the timewhich was only a short walk.. There were cheap restaurants and places to eat in the surroundings as well as grocers.

This is my second stay att this hotell. Its good for its price, the rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. Its close to Gare de l'Est and Nord and the suroundings are ok. However a couple things I should mention is that the rooms are not very sound-proof (not a big problem for me though) and if you need an elevator its not the hotel for you. But if you just need a place to stay overnight for a couple of days or a week its perfect.

This hotel was at a higher level than I could expect. It's very quiet, clean, reasonnably welcoming, close to Gare de l'Est station and an excellent ratio price/quality. So I advice you this hotel if you need to spend some time in Paris and don't want to spend 100 euros plus.

We really enjoyed our stay, after reading the negative reviews we didn't know what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised! The 3 guys at the desk were lovely, the area was nice and not expensive at all. The room was tiny, but what would you expect for 42quid a night!

Basic and a bit old, six floors and no lift at all, but very clean for its category. Very kind employee , we booked a room without WC and for the same price we got a room with bathroom. The best budget hotel I've found in Paris up to now.

The location of this hotel was FANTASTIC. close to Gare Est and Nord. Great ethnic food choices as well as cafes etc in the neighborhood. For the price this hotel is an excellent value. I have read many bad reviews regarding this hotel.. I believe that many people are unrealistic. for the price... this hotel is AWESOME. We would stay here in a heartbeat!!!!

I stayed for 5 nights, beginning December 2008. I stayed on top floor. Very tiring with steep stairs. It was quiet as asked, and high as asked. Bed was double, I was a single traveler, although difficult for me not to have a proper pillow, rather a long one along the head of the bed. Could use a refrigerator, if there was one. Room temperature was good, although it was really cold in Paris. The room was really clean, although once I needed to be back at 14:30 in the room... and still they had not done the linen and the cleaning... Common bathroom 2 floors down caused me inconvenience. Common toilet was on each floor, but really narrow, a person a bit more round would find it difficult to get round in it. In the room there was a wash basin and strangely a wash thing that in Greece we use for our foot... but in other countries they use it to keep clean certain other areas! Supermarket round the corner, many shops in the area, Metro and Bus very close. I walked a lot to enjoy the City, and it was 20' from Sacre de Coeur, Notre Dame and many other places. I did not have breakfast at the property so I cannot comment on it. As commented it was excellent as a cheaper accommodation in the centre of the city. I would prefer the same property, only this time I would ask for a close to bathroom room. Yorgos-Nikos

The quality of the hotel is exactly what you could expect from the price. Fair value for money. Our stay inside the hotel was great. However, the location of the hotel is not so good. We didn't feel entirely safe walking around there. Especially around the metro entrances there are always scaly characters hanging around. That being said, the hotel is really close to the metro and therefore you don't need to spend too much time in the area.

Room for 3, hotel probably what we expected. No troubles until hotel said that it was unable to take a credit card when we went to check out. Caused us quite a few hassles and I think it was lousy service. Even if only a temporary thing , they should notify customers before their expected check out. Not happy with this!

Our room was extremely dirty and the stench from the toilet was unbearable, we could not enter the bathroom it was so awful. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and we did not sleep. At about midnight some people began arguing uncontrollably downstairs. Everyone in our hotel and the neighbouring hotels were awake and when I asked the person on reception to please call the police he just shrugged his shoulders as if to say this happens all the time and there's nothing I can do. We moved out the following morning and found a brand new state-of-the art hotel much nearer the station which did not cost much more per night!

First time we stayed there, bit difficult to find, better directions needed. Further from the Gare du Nord than expected especially when carrying suitcases. Four person room a bit small for 4 people. Toilet was tiny. Beds were comfortable and it was ok for one night but no more. There seemed to be better places closer to the Gare du Nord, although it was OK for Gare de l'Est.

Paid 39Euro for a Single Room (w/ Shared Bath) and given the price was satisfied. I was given a room on the 6th floor; which resulted in a tiring climb every day. There is a very small WC (tight squeeze)on each floor but for bathing, you go to the 3rd floor. The Room is basic with TV, Sink and a toilet (only for urine which I did not use as the WC was just outside the room). No fan, but Paris was cold in Sept. The walls were thin which allows to hear the next room and people walking in the hallway. 1 min to Supermarket right of the Hotel or another located on the main street. 1 min to Metro. 5 mins to Train Station. Area mainly populated by Africans. Some of you will not be comfortable but I generally felt safe even if some of them look rough. In summary, low price, many stairs to climb, inconvenient shared bath and paper-thin walls.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that there had been a problem with my credit card and our quad room was no longer available. So 4 of us had to share a triple room on the first night - one of my friends slept on a mattress on the floor. My question is, why was I not notified that there was a problem with my card so we could have avoided this problem?

Good staff, excellent value breakfast. The room i had booked was not available on first night - this was only complaint. Very close to Canal St. Martin and it's bars and restaurants. Rue Jarry and neighbourhood are part of the vibrant Indian/ Pakistani community which surrounds the two stations - Gare du Nord / de L'Est.

The rooms are old and seemed dirty. The bathroom did not seem very clean either. The staff was friendly, except for the night receptionist. There are many restaurants and fast food in the hotel area and the metro/train station is near.
