Nestled in a quiet narrow alley of the arty 14th arrondissement of the French Capital, near the Montparnasse Tower, the Hotel Du Maine is a charming low-cost hotel Paris, out of the city's hustle and bustle, and very well served by public transports, allowing guests an easy access to most Paris tourists sites, museums and romantic Seine banks strolls, while keeping a tight holiday budget.
This convenient Paris hotel with its charming historic façade provides discount accommodation with all the modern comfort and a warm welcome, a rather atypical combination in Paris, which is per se an excellent reason why you should book a room at the Hotel Du Maine when planning your Parisian escapade!

more better than lot of 3 stars hotels in Paris, very clean and comfortable, free WiFi in the lobby that should be amplificated to be connected in room without problems

After reading some of the reviews for this hotel, I must admit I was prepared for the first. However, what I discovered was that the room was clean, the reception was courteous and the bathroom was perfectly functional. Can you ask for anything else in a *budget* accommodation in Paris? My only complaint is that, while they do in theory have a wifi network, it was completely inaccessible from my room. As in, it didn't even show up in the list of networks. I have to admit that was inconvenient. But this is Paris - there are tons of Internet places around! I can't comment on the "staff only speaks French" issue because I spoke French to them. Really, though, even browsing through a phrasebook on the plane should give you enough to check-in to a hotel.

I staied in a triple room with my family; the room was very quite but small and poor of light. The corrispondence between web site and the real appearance was not the same. In general I don't it for a family.

the people in the reception are almost all kind, but the room was really not good. it's kind of old. the hotwater in the bathroom was not hot! we stayed in the triple room which have a small place like a garden, but it was really dirty and no one take care of it...so we had no choice but clean it up ourselvs. it was miserable... moreover the room smell smoking and bad perfume, the two things made the air worse. it's unbelievable in today that it's permitted to smake in the room! we asked the reception for the other room but we are refused. it's really strange because we had already asked them one day before the check-in, and they had said to me that all room is non-smoking room!!! fainally, when i asked for the other room, he said it was just a mistake!!!!! do you think it's possible!?

I was at this hotel for one night only, but it fulfilled my expectations and requirements. Good value for the price.

For the circumstances, it was perfect - near the city and in the middle of a lively quarter. You can even go to town by foot, and this is very useful, when the metro fait la grève, what happens quite regularly...

The most important thing about cheap parisian hotels is adjustment of your expectations: small, but clean, room; small elevator; continental breakfast. Other then that you get a very good deal - proximity to metro and Gare du Montparnasse and overall area is very nice.

Room is clean,I think they had renovated the rooms light interior and room is airy. Staff are friendly and helpful. Nothing is cheap in Paris so its just right for a good night sleep and shower. Breakfast can be taken outside as there are many cafes, supermarket, and about 10 minute walk to Gare Montparnasse.

This is our second time in your hotel. We were pleased with the staff. The carpet in the room was stained but the bathroom was very clean. The air dryer was not working but I understand that a lot of repairs were going to be made right after our departure. We will use your facilities next time we stay in Paris.

Montparnasse is a lovely area to stay in and I would recommend it to anyone. This hotel is basic, the beds were not great, but the location is quite good and it does offer good value for money. We paid 85euro per night.

Tiny rooms. But - very close to Montparnasse railway station, very clean hotel, very cheap. Good for travellers looking for a cheap place to stay for 1 night departing next day from Montparnasse station.

A good location, quiet at night and safe to walk to Gaite metro. Room basic, clean, just right for me but may have been cramped for 2. I loved being able to open the windows onto a view of Paris rooftops complete with moon! Forget the eateries north in Gaite area, especially the Cafe du Maine (eg a dreadful glutinous and sweet tasting beef bourgignon with side of macaroni cheese..urk) Better food and atmosphere if you walk south on avenue du Maine to the Alesia area.

Small nice hotel in quiet area close to Gare de Montparnasse. Cosy restaurant with reasonable prices and very good food and an excellent organic bakery in the same street. Room small but not claustrophobic. Good price performance.

We booked 2 nights for a twin room with a bath room but we got a small double room and the shower room in the room was very narrow. We asked to move to a twin room but the staff said there's no twin room left and we had to wait till next morning to ask a staff again and we finally could move to a twin room next night. The female staff seemed unfriendly and her English was not so good and I dought if she was understanding what I was talking about, she even sometimes answered in French as well although I was speaking in English. It's alright just to sleep in but I advice you to call them and double check if you have a double or twinroom before you go.

The relationship between price/quality is good. The hotel is clean and well located. Metro is only couple minutes walk away and the city centre is not far. The room, shower and elevator are super tiny. The one negative experience was that hotel staff almost don't speak English at all. One of the receptionists literally does not know any English. How was I supposed to communicate with her if I don't know French?! Paying for my stay to her was a big problem. Otherwise hotel's ok.

*ATTENTION! Do not leave any money at the hotel's room! We left some money at locked suitcase...During last day some of the money were over! About 400euros and few thousands in Czech Crowns were stolen. Be careful - not all of our money were over so it seems it can happen rather often. And the lock on suitcase was locked again. This accident really spoiled our stay :-(

Hard to imagine a better deal in Paris for the price. Don't have the breakfast - better value in Montparnasse proper. Near to trains. (15 min walk from Montparnasse) Walk to Catacombs. Convenience store on Ave Du Maine nearby. Night porter (thankfully) waited for me to arrive late. You need to be in by 9pm so if your flight is delayed you'd better call. If you need transport back to early flight at CdG airport, the Noctilien leaves from in front of Gare Montparnasse on Ave du Maine, near the Noctilien office between the station and the Tour Montparnasse building. Look for the N121 sign. Ask at Noctilien office during biz hours re timetable. I would gladly stay there again.

Hotel is located not so far from 2 metro stations (5 -10 min walk). Yes -rooms are small, but it is ok for taking shower and sleeping. If you are in Paris just walk as we did. From this Hotel you can walk to Eiffel Tower. We spent more time for observing Paris, neither then staying in hotel.

I think the only good thing about this place was the location which was very close to Metro and a small shopping centre. The rest was awful! Broken shower so we had to shower by one hand hanging in the air keeping the shower! Very dirty and thorn bed spread and not a very clean and comfortable bed (the sheets were OK!) but no room service during our 3 days stay. Staff were OK but not as polite as you expect them to be, very limited English. The rooms seemed to be separated with cardboard and easy to hear the other rooms conversations! and worst than that you could hear anything that happened in the bathroom, from start to the end!!!! So I suggest if you have to go there for the relatively low price, go and check the room you have been offered and compare it with some other rooms, although staff may not be willing to do so. Choose the 5th floor as you get les noise from toilet flushes! and get a brize from outside. Oh! I was gonna forget... the bed stand was broken and I had to fix it myself. AVOID IF YOU CAN!

Overall good and we would recommend it to others. Convenient location, close to metro and trains. Only criticism is that door to room did not stay locked unless pulled hard. Returned one day to find door of room open and french doors also. Nothing was missing, but security is possibly a little lax.

The hotel is near two metro stations and is easily reachable. It isn't labeled as "hotel Du Maine" but is the only one in the road. The rooms are small but comfortable. The breakfast isn't included but is copious and various.

Although this hotel lists WiFi service on the Venere website, visitors beware -- they charge an extra amount for this and the service reception is very poor.

Great little place at a reasonable price, in a lovely part of Paris. The neighborhood is teeming with great ethnic restaurants, there's a fantastic little bakery right down the street (which is a much better option than overpaying for breakfast at the hotel- c'mon, you're in Paris!!) and the Montparnasse tower and train station are a 5 minute walk away. The staff was super friendly and the rooms were fine by Parisian standards- nothing fancy, just a bed and a clean shower after a long day of exploring the city. Great value and perfect location!

This is a nice little hotel in the Montparnasse region 5 minutes walk from Gaite metro station which is about 15 minutes from most tourist attractions. There were 3 couples in our group. One couple are 60, One couple 35 and the others early 20's. We all enjoyed our stay and found the hotel to be a good standard for the price. We found all the staff welcoming and happy to help.
Turkey, May 2008
The hotel is located in a quite central district, it's only about 5 min walk from Gare de Montparnasse and as 3rd or 4th building on a street opening to the main street. Our room had french windows but I doubt that some of the rooms even have windows because the building is not detached from the neighbouring buildings and there are several rooms on both sides of the corridor. The room is extremely small. Twin beds occupy 60% of the room. The wardrobe is small but has enough space for an average briefcase content. The bathroom is tiny but looked quite clean. The shower cubicle is again microscopic. The TV had very few channels and the main lamp did not work. However, we were very tired and went to sleep immediately. We stayed there for one night (saturday) and I can recommend the place for short stays, especially to have somewhere to sleep. One advantage is that the room has its own toilet, you don't share it. The elevator is again microscopic, it says the capacity is 4 people, but we as 2 people could hardly fit in it. I think the price is high for such a tiny room but comparing the offered rooms, the hotel looks fine among the other alternatives. The staff can speak English (not excellently though), and they can give you hints about where to go in Paris.

Hotel Du Maine is nothing special, but it is ok to stay there if you want to see Paris. You get breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30. It is only a way of 5 minutes to métro station Gaîté which is near Gare Montparnasse, so that it is easy to reach. We had a room for 3 persons, which seemed to be only a double room with a further bed, so that it was a little narrow for us. But if you don't want to stay the whole day in hotel, it is a good alternative for a sightseeing tour in Paris.

good hotel if you want to be out all day. rooms are small but clean, but some items need more basic care, like poor reception quality for some tv-programs, toilet seat half fixed, shower 70x70 obstructed with needless big empty soap dispenser and some other typical french "je m'en foutismes". Overall picture acceptable.

Rooms were great and clean for the price, but make sure you ask for a street facing room as opposed to inner courtyard as there is a grade school sharing the back space and they are very loud at 8:30am...

Room was typically small but bathroom had been renovated - shower good with plenty of hot water. Cubby holes instead of closet were roomy but walls needed repair/paint. Staff at the desk were very helpful except one gentleman who acted quite strangely (other people complained also); good location not far from metro.
