By far the best hotel experience I have had in Paris. Notoriously small rooms in Paris would render this room "spacious." Clean, comfortable, newly renovated, excellent staff, and a view of the Eiffel Tower! What else could you ask for? Except maybe a good restaurant nearby and I would recommend the Che Papa, southeast French cuisine...excellent (and recommended by the staff).

Personnel are kind, a very "pariesien" room, wonderfull location (tube station and train to airports, supermarket, cafes, etc). I was realy tinking if I will write this evaluation because I don´t want the Du Lion became all the time full of people...It´s a very good deal for price (in Paris, of course).

Am very pleased with our stay in Paris, the hotel staff are friendly and helpful. You will feel the comfortable homy atmosphere when you arrive there. It is conveniently located near an RER station that has lift access (helps a lot with that big old luggage). A supermarket is just infront of the hotel, very near to halal food restaurant selling kebabs etc - mcDonalds is just 2 doors away. Got cafe under the hotel and another one accross the street. A lift is available at lobby but you have to climb a 1 storey staircase. Bottom line, this is an excellent value for money hotel and I'm already recommending it to my family and friends.

The room was quite clean and spacious. The hotel isn't too close from Paris' center but it's 5mt far from Denfert Rocherau's Metro. :) Breakfast not included (8€ per person) in the price so i suggest boulangeries (2 very close to the hotel..): cheap and full of delicious!

Hotel du Lion is a fantastic bargain for a stay in Paris. The neighborhood includes a pedestrian street with numerous restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and other neighborhood stores. Two main metro lines and an RER line are right outside the hotel door. We will definitely stay here again.

Service was great and the hotel was right outside the METRO which was very handy if you caaught the train. I would recommend this hotel to anybody. Cheers. Frank

That is a cute 2 star hotel located next to subway, there could not possible be a better place. RER train station is also in 1-minute-walk range (to airport). The only problem seems to be those sheer steps you gotta take to get the reception. It is on the first floor of the building.

Hotel very well located with a Metro station, restaurants, bars, cafes right outside of the Hotel, which makes the surroundings noisy. Small rooms but typical of Paris, didn't hear neighbors. If you get a room in floor 7 or 8 you could see the Eiffel tower. Would stay here again.

Room was larger than I'd have expected for a 2* hotel. WiFi wasn't advertised or mentioned; I had to ask when I noticed a sticker in the lobby -- it was free and worked well. Only 2 disadvantages: no shower curtain, so you have to shower sitting down, and a flight of stairs to reach the lobby, problematic if you have a lot of luggage.

Pleasantly surprised by the location. Very convenient to public transportation. 2 minute walk from Denfert Rochereau stop on the M4 and M6 underground train lines. Suburban train RerB that also stops at both CDG airpot and Gare du Nord stops there as well. Took me 25 minutes to get there on the M4 train from Gare du Nord. My dad arrived at CDG and it took him approximately 45 minutes via the RerB train. 15 to 20 minute bus ride directly to Notre Dame. Located across the street from a long market street full of fresh produce, meat, seafood, flowers and great restaurants. Across the street from the entrance to the Catacombs. Despite being on a busy street, I didn't notice much street noise from our 3rd story room.

If you don't mind to walk, location of hotel is great for the price you pay, although Metro is right outside the door. The room I had was small but adequate and clean and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I will definitely book here if my travels lead to Paris again.

Hotel is well located in desirable area & close to public transport with Metro entrance right outside door. Many cafes in area with one by hotel entrance. Adequate accommodation given rating, although better beakfast options available in local cafes. While staying, I made a booking for a one night return to Paris on 19/9/08 only to find on arrival our booking had been cancelled as credit card details not held which was incorrect. Little effort made at first to book alternative hotel until I insisted and no offer made to meet price difference. Unfortunately this mistake has affected our rating of the hotel.

We had a 'balcony' room on the 6th floor and always took the stairs so we could eat more without guilt. The room was tiny but with a pretty view of the Eiffel Tower. The staff was very friendly and the location super, close to an RER stop on the line from the airport. Pillows are a little wimpy and a couple lights were out. Not a fancy or romantic place but a very good value.

Requested a no smoking room, did not get one. The location is great, however, reception is not at ground level and one must tote all luggage up to the 1st floor with no assistance. The cost of using the wireless was very expensive $30.00 for two hours.

Double Room on Fifth floor. Balcony room This room was amazing! Two doors out to the balcony with a complete view of the tower. The rooms are small but that is expected in Paris. It is clean and was great for my friend and me. The downfall would the winding stairs from the street to the reception area. When you exit the metro station look for the Indiana Bar on the corner. The hotel is above this bar.

We stayed at Hotel Du Lion for 3 nights, not really knowing what to expect but hoping for the best. It is in a convenient location, 1 block from the Denfert-Rochereau Metro station and from the entrance to the Paris Catacombs. The hotel is on the second floor above a bar, but noise was not an issue. From the entrance on the ground level, there is a long, narrow winding staircase to the reception area. The woman at the desk was friendly and checked us in to a room on the 8th floor. There is a very small elevator servicing all floors. Our room was small, and on the corner of the building, so 1/4 of the room was sloped because of the roof, making an already small room even smaller. However, we were only there to sleep, therefore very welcoming at the end of very long sightseeing days. There is a breakfast room serving continental breakfast but it wasn't included in our room rate so we didn't take advantage of it. There are numerous cafes and bakeries in the immediate area that are worth exploring. The bakery just around the corner has the most delicious croissants! I felt safe in the area, coming back later at night wasn't a problem. The receptionist was also very helpful in giving us directions. I would recommend this hotel -- it's a 2 star hotel, but clean, convenient and reasonable for being so close to the city centre.

Nice little hotel, just off Cimetière Montparnasse. Underground Denfert Rochereau station just outside entrance. Orly Bus round the corner. The area is lively during the day, a few bistrot only at night. Basic but quite ok for the money paid.

We stayed 4 nights and everything was more than ok. Yes, the room was rather small, but spacious enough and the bed... for about 3-4 persons. And very clean, with towels changed every day, the room and bathroom cleaned every day etc. We stayed in the past in more expensive hotels but, beside room's dimensions, there were no differences. Also, right there is the tram/bus/RER station Denfert Rochereau, station that can provide you ways to go anywhere in Paris and surroundings. The only hotel that replyed to my e-mails. All of them :) Three advices: 1. Definetely get the park (is at the back of the hotel), it's only 10 euro/day and use RATP. 2. Forget about the breakfast. Downstairs there are quite a few places to eat real food. 3. Ask for a higher floor room as possible (7th, 8th) and as near to the intersection (east) as possible (it will give you quite a view on Tour Eiffel and Montparnase Tower). Definitely would go there again.

We were 2, we had a nice week. Rooms are big enough to live in, but not an inch more. We had a room on the main street, that made difficoult to sleep the first 2 nights, after that we were too tired to worry about traffic. We didn't manage to make the air conditioned work. Not bad, not good, just nice enough to sleep while visiting Paris. Overall vote: 6

For the price a great value. Just steps from a metro line and the RER. Clean and comfortable. The staff people I interacted with were helpful and courteous. There is a steep staircase to the reception floor that might be difficult for someone who was not able to do steps or carry luggage. Internet was not availbale on the floor I was on and the service was quite expensive.

The room and bathroom were small but sufficient to our requirements. Was a shame there wasn't a fitting for the shower head-hand held attachments are a pain! The location was brilliant as it was close to the metro, and there's a nice bakery across the road. Check-in was a non-event, not very welcoming, we were not informed of any services available but we were able to leave our bags there during the day of our departure. A no frills experience but I would recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Hotel du Lion was great. Super location, next to train/metro. We asked and got a balcony room up high and the view had the Eiffel Tower in the distance (floor 6). Staff was helpful and nice. Room was cleaned daily. The train goes right to Charles de Gaulle airport but be sure to buy the extra charge tickets! I will definitely stay at du Lion again - perhaps next year!!

Recomendable.

Quite basic hotel, but very clean generally! Breakfast is "Continental" to the extreme, with only a smallish packet of "Kellogs" to break the monotony of coffee, croissant, cheese & jam!!! Still, you pay for what you get and on that basis , and the mind bogglin' prices in Paris generally, the "Lion" was not too bad. I would suggest that the hotel is not the type of place you would stay in during the day, but as a base for further excursions, - ideal!!! We stayed for seven nights and found we could quite safely wander out in late evening and seek out restaurants nearby. As a really last desperate choice if your late back from the City centre, there is a Mcdonalds' slap bang next to the Hotel.(Unsurpringly the 'burgers taste the same as back home!!) Read all the booklets on Paris and do what they suggest regarding buying "carnets" for your Metro/RER journeys, ask for Senior citizens reductions in Museums, etc. That was our Third and final visit to Paris and this time we made sure we missed nothing!! Good Luck

The staff were great except for one guy who did the night shift on NY eve. I had my wallet stolen (on the metro, not the hotel) and he wasn't so keen to help me when i needed to call and cancel my cards. Also be careful of the wake up call... I asked for one but it never came through. Lucky my wallet was stolen so i was awake all night trying to sort out the mess so lucky i didnt fall asleep. Other than that it was a nice hotel and the other staff were great and really friendly. There is no elevator to the loby on the second floor so it may not be so good if you have a big heavy bag.

Excellent choice if your staying in Paris. I have been to Paris 3 times, and this is by far the best location for the price your paying. You can walk to Notre Dame in 20 minutes, the latin quarter in 15 and the catacombs are across the road. Transport wise, Gare de lyon is 50 metres away and there is a metro stop imediately outside the front of the hotel. Supermarket is across the road, along with an excellent organic bakery! The hotel doesn't look fabulous, but the beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are clean, modern tvs and our room even had a balcony. The only down side of this place is the walls are thin. You can hear everything happening in the next room - I mean everything (note to the couple next door). One word of warning - don't get into the elevator with any more than 2 people otherwise you may find yourself stuck in there (although breifly) like we did! All the staff on reception we very friendly and spoke exceptional english. Particularly the guy during the day who has a wacky personality and great sense of humour. Overall, an excellent choice.

This hotel could not be nearer the metro station. It was just 2 steps away. If you arrive at Gare du Nord you do not have to change anywhere. We were surprised by the good beds the cleanliness of the rooms and public areas. Our room had a tiny balcony facing the boulevard but there was no traffic noise at all because of the double glazing. Nice area too with brasseries and shops nearby. We really enjoyed our stay.

Definitely good value for money. There is a whole floor for non-smokers, clean rooms, although not very spacious, with additional facilities such as hairdryer & trouser press. Very good location: two metro lines, RER line, Orly-Bus to the airport close to the hotel. Abundance of cafes, bakeries, restaurants (check rue Daguerre just in front) in the neighbourhood. Very good French breakfest (buffet). Friendly staff.

A nice week-end in Paris without spend so much. The hotel was great, close to three underground line and just beside the Orly bus stop. You can have breakfast in any bakery nearby but, if you like cappuccino, ask for milk and coffee, otherwise you will have a strange beverage made of milk foam and coffe!!! have a good stay!

Clean and very close to the most important thing of Paris: METRO!! It's also near to the RER station and to Orlybus stop (very comfortable if you come from Orly airport!!). Du Lion is a 2-star hotel, so you get pretty much what you pay for. Be ready to drag your baggage up from the street to the reception (elevator after that), and the rooms are simple, plain and reasonably clean. Although the hotel faces a very busy street, noise isn't as bad as expected because windows on the street side are heavy and shut out most noise. Location is central, right on the RER B line and a metro line; you can enter either right outside the front door. Good spot to stay a last night before departing for CDG airport.

We really enjoyed our stay at Du Lion! Nice, clean, quiet (windows closed!)hotel, good value for money. Friendly and helpful staff. Very good location, especially if you travel via Orly airport; the Orly-bus stops just across the street. Metro right on the doorstep, RER by the bus stop, lots of nice restaurants and shops in the neighbourhood. Hotel not suitable for disabled persons, since you have to walk the steps to the 1. floor/ reception, where the lift takes you further up. Otherwise this hotel should be a good choice for anybody on the outlook for a nice place to stay for less money. We'll check in at Du Lion on our next trip to Paris!

I had the opportunity to travel through a series of hostels and small hotels in Europe during one month vacation, and sincerely, Du Lion is one of the hotels which I strongly recommend to my friends, and where, for sure I will return in my next trip to Paris. Maybe the only things to improve are a bit of training to the guys that stay over night, who are willing to help, but they need a little more expertise in managing international phone numbers, credit cards, etc. Second it would be useful to count with a computer with access to internet at the counter in order to confirm or change trip reservations. Finally, even though I had the chance to stay at hotels of international chains, the sense of home of Hotel Du Lion is very much confortable- her administrator resumes all the hospitality of the french people, with a great smile and friendship to the foreigner.

I got what I expected for the price, the rooms are ok, the personnel very friendly and helpful. One thing I really deplored: the rooms are well soundproof against the street (good windows), but poorly against each other. The phone ringing in the next room at 4:30, 5:00 and 5:30, followed by my neighbor's shower sounding as if he was in *my* bathroom, not his, made the night not quite as reposeful as it could have been.
