We stayed here for 1 week. ~110 Euro a night Pros: Location, Location, Location: It was in a pretty decent location in the area called Les Halles. Walking distance to Notre Dame and the Louvre Museum. It was also a 1 minute walk to the Metro. The area around the hotel is pretty hip and you can find some cool cafés and restaurants right in the area. To give you an idea of the area, there’s a gothic clothing shop just next door. If you’re thinking of bringing kids, this might not be your cup of tea though. The rooms were clean and the staff was helpful. Free Wifi. Walking distance from the RER, which takes you to/from Charles De Gaule airport. Cons: The rooms aren’t air-conditioned. This wasn’t too much of an issue… Paris isn’t as hot as Rome in the Summer. That being said, if the room did have A/C, we would have cooled the room by about 5 degrees. Even though the hotel is on a small, narrow street. Our room’s window opened to the street and we got woken up by trash trucks in the morning (both the diesel engine and the smell of garbage). We also got woken up one night by some of the people walking around drunk and loud at night. If the rooms were air conditioned, this wouldn’t have been as much of an issue because we could have just closed the window. Even though the rooms were clean, they were a bit on the small side and seem like they could stand a renovation in the next year or two. They have free wifi, but it didn’t reach our room. Summary: Pretty good bang for your buck with a decent location. AC would have been nice

It is OK hotel. Only OK. If location is the best thing that is important to you - so go for it - it near everything. BUT - we did not like the street (in a Gothic area, near sex shops), most of the staff were friendly. The rooms were tiny! The bed was really soft and smelly... so what we liked: 1. Still location. 2. Price (109 euro double room).

If you want a pleasant hotel, a bolt hole if you will, for a romantic stay in Paris then this is not it. Sandwiched between being awoken by street cleaners at 7am every morning and Wagneresque late evening snoring from the neighboring room left me a tad jaded. The breakfast was rendered down to a baguette cleft in two and an orange. Bon appetite. In the meantime, during a gentle stroll around the neighbourhood would yield some places of interest. A multifarious number of strip joints and purveyors of rhythm magazines. Thankfully, for those of stouter hoof should be able to locate the Seine and the more pleasing aspects of Paris within some 10 minutes.

Room was very small, just enough room to get out of the bed on each side. Staff were friendly and helpful. Photos of rooms on internet were of bigger and more recently decorated rooms.

When we arrived at the hotel, we didn´t like the "welcoming" part. The employee at the front desk wasn´t really rude, but wasn´t friendly. (We almost decided to find another hotel..) But the hotel had other nice employees. (working at the front desk too) The room was very small. The location is very good. Perfect for single travellers. Terrible for honeymooners. No elevators, very narrow stairs. (the employee won´t help you with your luggage) I would never come back to that hotel again.

Microscopic room with an awful stair case. The hotel is located in a somewhat red part of downtown in a noisy street. The good thing about location is that Metro stations and major attractions are just steps away. Room and bathroom were clean. Eur 120 per night is a little bit expensive for the room but is an OK alternative.

This is not a 5 star hotel, but if all you want is a place to sleep and a clean room, this hotel is for you. The location is excellent, the staff very helpful and the bed comfortable. The only downside was that on Saturday night it was noisy outside and there were only shower facilities, no bath tub. If I ever go to Paris again, I am staying at this hotel. It is a great value for the price!

We thought this was an excellent location, within walking distance of Rue de Rivoli and the river. The area was fine for us. The hotel was very clean and although the room we had was quite small, it was very clean and warm. The staff were very helpful. We will definately go again

The hotel is ideal for RER from Les Halles to CDG, and for all the central attractions Paris has to offer. Admittedly there is a lot of street noise at night and there was a lady of the night pitched up outside and some massage (?) parlours in close proximity, but we felt completely safe as a couple and would stay here again without hesitation.

The employees were very friendly and helpful. Although this hotel is situated in the middle of downtown, it was very quiet. Our room was extremely small. We had to tip-toe to get from one point to another. Bathroom was very clean and tidy.

The hotel was better than expected. The hotel room was not spacious but clean and stylish. Beware of the very steep and narrow stair, a bit hard for those with heavy luggage. Besides, its location was good, just less than 5 minutes walk from Chatelet-Les-Halles station which was convenient to two main airports. There were lots of good shops and restaurants around. Cafes around could provide cheaper breakfast than the 8 Euro one provided by the hotel. As the hotel rooms was facing the street, it could be quite noise at night. But at the winter time, we could shut the window to keep the noise down. There was only 5 mins walk to pompiduo and 15 mins walk to Louvre. Would come back again and recommend to other travellers. Summer is not recommended as they have no air-conditioning.

Very nice hotel. Clean. Old bldg w no elevator, narrow winding stair. We had a room facing the courtyard, which was very quiet, even with the window left wide open -- this is really important on the first night after a red-eye flight. Close to Pompidou Museum. Guests include famous musicians visiting IRCAM.

Excellent central location with easy reach to all main attractions and good transport. Room (for 3 persons) was spacious and very clean. Staff were very welcoming and helpful and spoke good English. The only let down was a noise late at night from the street (even though we wereon the 3rd floor. However if you sleep soundly and are looking for a central 'pad' this is ideal.

Very friendly staff - spoke English very well, which was a big plus. Good location - ten minutes away from the Louvre, five from the Pompidou, lots of shops near by, near a major Metro station; although the road perpendicular with it has quite a few sex shops on it - maybe not suitable for kids. The room was tiny: only room for the bed. It was also not at all like in the photos - nor beams or anything, just a regular room. The bathroom was very nice though. The locks on the doors were confusing, but once you work it out it's fine. Just make sure you shut them firmly. The stairs are incredibly steep and there is no lift. Not great for people with kids and near impossible for the disabled or elderly. Breakfast was €8, which is hardly cheap. It consisted of a hot drink, organge juice, a crossaint, and some bread. There's much cheaper places just round the corner. It could be quite noisy at night. The walls were very thin, so you could hear the people in the surrounding rooms. Also, the windows were single-glazing, and it is in quite a noisy area - lots of busy roads near-by. Even though I've said quite a few negative things I would still recommend this hotel - especially if you're not confident with French. The staff were incredibly friendly. The location was really good for the price. And the rooms, although small, were very clean and fine if you don't plan to spend much time in them. Overall it's a good place if you want a budget hotel that's got friendly staff. But not one for families. Don't be misled by the photos though - most of the rooms do not look nearly as nice.

Very competent and helpfull staff, speaking good english. The only pet peeve was a very narrow spiral traicase - we new about it - but it is a 17th century building after all!!! With the elevetor - they could probably double the room price. On May 1st (Labour Day) it was the only area in Paris with open stores - the rest of Paris was shut down!!!. Excellent location - minutes to Popmpidou Center, Notre Dame, Louvre, etc. A bit noisy, but acceptable - it is Paris after all.

It's a small hotel but comfortable and the location is good. Be ware of the bulky luggages as the hotel has a very narrow and steep stairs. It's very close to the station (RER and Metro). The hotel is surrounding with many restaurants and cafe. It's convenience.

We arrived from London by Eurostar and got the metro from Gare du Nord to Chatelle Les Halles then walked to the hotel. Easy to find. hotel and room exactly as I expected from the website and reviews. Small but clean, confortable and charming. Excellent location, walked to Louvre, Notre Dam, Seine cruise etc and close to at least 2 metro stations. Has a very narrow, windy staircase (like the tower of london one) so be prepared to carry your luggage up and down tiny stairs. Our room had what appeared to be the original ceiling beams (it's a 17th Century building) and very high ceilings which stop the room feeling claustophobic despite it's small size. As other reviewers have noted, it's on a side street which can be a bit seedy and quite noisy at night. We didn't mind that. I liked hearing the street bustle and French converation at night - added to the experience. Didn't interfere with our sleep although we probably still had the after effects of jet lag having endured a 27 hour flight from New Zealand to London a few days before. Staff friendly, helpful and spoke at least some English. Loved it and would highly recommend except to someone looking for more space and luxury in a room in which case you'd have to pay a lot more.

Excellent small hotel. The room (4th floor)was very clean with no noise facing away from street. Staff very friendly and efficient. Downside is that smoking is permitted everywhere including very small breakfast area which was unpleasant, but we found other places to eat after first day. Tight circular staircases, so don't bring your luggage in large containers!

Difficult to find on a map (the street is not listed) but if you find the cross streets rue St. Denis & rue Cygne or by which metro stop is closest, then it narrows it down. This hotel is in the middle of the "Sex Shop" neighborhood, and is quite busy at night.

The staff was terrific. The maid was very loud and there was a lot of second hand cigarette smoke coming into the room at times (hey, it's France. What are you gonna do?).

A lovely quaint place to stay right in the heart of the tourist area, but take ear plugs if you want an early night or don't want to be woken early by the street cleaners.

For the price, I doubt there is a better hotel within five minutes walk of the Pompidou Centre, the Seine, ten minutes from the Louvre etc. The staff were fantastic - very welcoming, always smiling, totally against the Parisien stereotype. The area is bustling with a huge selection of cafes, bars and bistrots on the doorstep - the ones we tried were uniformly excellent. We usually stay in more expensive hotels elsewhere, but Hotel du Cygne is one third of the price of the Novotel (200 metres away) and the difference in price cannot be worth paying. I would recommend this hotel to anyone except those with mobility problems (steep staircases) and those expecting full-on luxury.
