The location of the Hotel is great... just a few minutes away from the RER. As mentioned in the previous reviews, there is a little "rumble" when the RER or Metro passes by below the building, but in our room (Courtyard, 4th floor) it's hardly noticeable. The staff is nice and helpful in a french-kind-of-way... ;-) Overall, I would stay there again.

A modest hotel at the very end of the Boulevard St Michel. Nice staff, clean room, but the overall impression a bit sad. A very small distance from the RER station as well as from the Jardin du Luxembourg is however a big advantage.

Clean, but spartan, basic rooms. Decent location for Monparnasse and Latin Quarter. Some good local non-touristy restauraunts nearby. Only real problem is that the rooms are not really well sound-insulated.

Really small room on the fourth floor, I think maybe even for Paris. It's near the RER stop so I think the rooms in the lower floors will hear the train passing underground. The RER stop nearest to the hotel doesn't accept coins to buy tickets so it might be a better idea to get a pass.

The train of RER run just few meters under your feet: you can easily hear it roaring even in the early hours of the night. If you are so tired and want to sleep it may be very irritating. Walls dividing rooms are too thin so you can clearly listen to speeches coming from next-door room.

I was quite happy after I have booked a hotel on blv. st michel as it is a great area of paris with lot of places to hang out and walking distance to luxembourg gardens, notre dame cathedral etc. When I have been to the hotel I was even more sure that what I have done is right; being in that fancy famous area, hotel des mines is at the same time outside of that crowd. It is one minute walk to the metro station luxembourg. Staff was so nice and helpful. The rooms are cleaned and tide up everyday. There were only two problems; rooms are not quite big though it is enough to get in but this is quite similar in all paris; tiny little tables, chairs etc. The other problem is that; probably the metro line passes below the hotel. It might be a little bit disturbing because of the voice and nearly felt shake but this too is quite similar for all city because paris is surrounded by that great metro line. As a result, i would consider hotel des mines for my next stay in paris and i would reccomend it to venere users. By the way, making use of the promotions on venere i booked the single room which costs 160 euroes normally for only 85 euros!

The staff was delightful and very helpful and were all fluent in English. The hotel was close to the Metro, within walking distance to many points of interest -- it was an ideal location! I'd definitely stay there again and refer it to others because of the price/quality for a stay.

I liked the hotel Des Mines and enjoyed my stay there! Quiet and safe neigbourhood, close to the tube! Minor drawback: the hotel breakfast is rather poor and a bit pricey (9 euros). I suggest visiting the supermarkets and cafes nearby!

The rooms were small. The bathroom had no window or fan, and we were greeted with a strong smell of urine when we first entered our hotel room. The corridors were pitch black and we had to struggle to find the light switch as we tried to make our way to our room. The walls were thin and we could hear every cough that came from the visitors next door to us (and someone playing the piano late into the night, for some reason!). The lift is so small that it can only fit about 3 people at a time. However, you need to bear in mind that it is only a 2 star hotel. Despite all these things, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was excellent... very close to the Notre Dame and Louvre. I would recommend this hotel to younger couples who are on a budget.

The hotel is excellent value for money, considering it is close to the Latin Quarter (not in it actually) and just opposite the Luxembourg garden. One could walk to the Cite or even the Louvre if patient enough. Close to Luxembourg station of ReR. The room was small indeed, not to mention the bathroom, but it was very clean and warm, with nice textiles, and the bed was comfortable. One could feel the vibrations from the underground at night but the windows isolate well enough from the street noise. Wifi signal a bit weak upstairs, OK in the lobby. The staff are kind and speak good English. Overall, a perfect choice for medium budget sightseers who don't intend to spend their time in Paris in bed. There is a nice bakery, by the way, on av St Jaques, perhaps 2 blocks before you reach the Pantheon.

Flew in to Beauvois airport (hour & 1/2 from Paris)late and reserved with "Paris Shuttle" for direct transport to hotel for Euro 56. They never showed. Unreliable outfit (was told also by others). Hotel was fine; Tiny rooms, but great beds and showers. Bit of a hike from the nearest Metro..but bus lines right there and Blvd. St. Michel..central to everything.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel very clean and bed linen and bathroom had a lovely clean fragrance. A few mins walk from RER B from Paris CDG airport. Approx 15 min walk from Seine and Notre Dame cathedral. 2 min walk to pick up point for hop on/off bus. Could hear underground from hutel room in evening but quiet at night. Bathroom very small and bedroom snug but adequate for short stay in Paris.

Hotel des Mines is a great value and I will certainly return. I have lived and vacationed all over Paris--this was my best experience as a tourist. I greatly appreciated the quality of the rooms and service. The breakfast was copious and the staff was pleasant. I loved the location. My only concern for women traveling alone would be the location late at night-it's very quiet after 10pm. This should not be a concern for anyone travelling with company. The neighborhood is great. But for someone like me, who has friends in an area not far from the hotel and therefore can walk back to the hotel, it did seem a bit deserted just at that stretch opposite the Luxembourg Gardens because there are no cafes near the hotel (a great bookshop, though). That said, the quiet nearby means no street noise to contend with while falling asleep. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Paris--on a budget or first class.

Very nice hotel - great location, clean rooms, friendly staff. Conveniently offers shuttle to the airport. Wireless connection is fast enough. We didn't linger in the room (who does when in Paris??) and got breakfast outside of the hotel (there are plenty of places along weavy streets). Lower your expectations regarding a room's size ("large room" has a different meaning in Paris) and enjoy your stay!

Excellent location close to Luxembourg RER with direct connection to Charles de Gaulle airport and links to metro system. Far enough up the Boulevard St. Michel to be quiet in the evenings, but still an easy walk to the Ile de la Cite and "tourist" Paris. We had a quiet room looking on to the inner courtyard (which I would recommend). We hadn't planned to take the beakfast (which seemed a bit pricey at 9 Euros) but, after taking it on the first morning for convenience, we continued to do so as the quantity and quality were both excellent. Staff pleasant and efficient. Would go there again.

The hotel location is amazing, walking distance to Notre Dame, Latin Quarters and Opera, across the street from the Luxemburg Gardens, very close to public transit, RER B takes you to the airport. All the staff was very helpful, they provided a lot of info and tips. They have a convenience store next door, bakery products and fruit stands within 5 minutes. Although you can ask for a wakeup call I wish they had an alarm clock in the room. The TV was old but we did not watch much TV. All in all we had a great stay at The Mines, very good choice.

My wife, 13 year old son, and I stayed here. We were a bit anxious about what to expect with a 2 star hotel, but were pleasantly surprised. The room was relatively spacious with 2 twins and a double bed, though the bath was a bit small. Our room faced a quiet inner court yard. Our only disappointment was breakfast. First, we thought it was included, but we were charged 9 euros each for coffee, three small rolls, and juice. The woman serving was unfriendly and brusque, and her service poor. If you stay here, skip breakfast and wander to a nearby cafe to buy fresh croissants for 1 or 2 euros. Other than the disappointment breakfast, however, we would readily recommend the hotel and would happily return.

The location is excellent. Breakfast was more expensive than advertised on Venere by one euro, but breakfast in bed cost no extra and was delicious. We had a late flight on our departure date and were allowed to leave our bags in a storage room for the day. The bathroom was very large for Paris, with a full size bath tub. All in all a very pleasant place to stay. We would stay again.

The hotel is good. The rooms are small but if you are in Paris , you´ll be in the room only to sleep. The shower is very small; I`m a small person and it wasn´t a problem for me, but I see it can be difficult to take a shower in such a small place. Everything else is ok; the employees are kind people. I chose this hotel because of the relationship between price and location. The location is great.

Staff always friendly; rooms clean and comfortable; location perfect - right on RER and a bus, and right on Blvd. St. Michel, though far enough away from scrum of Sorbonne to be quiet at night. Excellent value for location, comfort - rooms not so msall as to make you wince! It's a 2-start hotel with 5-star staff.

Excellent place for exploring the area. If you like walking it's great, and it's also handy for the metro. If you have lots of luggage do not use the metro from Charles De Gaulle Airport. There are no escalators at Luxembourg RER. Use a shuttle bus instead. Believe me, it's worth the expense. One bad point about the hotel - there was no kettle in the room. They don't cost much and it makes all the difference to your stay if you can just make a cup of tea or coffee when you want one! Other than that, the place was fine.

A perfect location in Paris, in Boulvard St. Michelle, close to the RER B Luxemburg, with nice surroundings. The breakfast merits a special positive mention: excellent coffee and a large variety of food for Continental breakfast. Some rooms are larger, but for me and my wife that just sleep in the room, our small room was very nice with a new and very clean bathroom. An excellent ratio price/quality.

My one-night stay at the Hotel Des Mines was at the end of an 11-day tour of the Provence region. This was the first of 7 hotels/inns on my trip that had an elevator, and it was a welcome feature. Upon arrival, we were immediately and courteously registered and given our room key. The room was small for two people, but manageable. The bathroom was spotless and updated, large compared to other locations, and had a wonderfully deep tub for soaking after a long day of walking around Paris. The following morning the young lady at the reception desk was very helpful with information on the RER that goes directly to Charles DeGaulle airport from the Luxembourg station. The station is within a short walking distance from the hotel. The Hotel Des Mines provided a comfortable, convenient, clean, and quiet room at a reasonable price.

THis was our 6th time in Paris and we finally got it right. The Hotel Des Mines was great! It's location near the RER station makes the need for use of a taxi or bus to get from the airport unnecessary. This will save you 45 euro each way righ off the bat.It was so easy to just hop a train and get off at the station. A short 10 minute walk and you are there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The spoke great English. The rooms are clean and of good size. The bathroom are modern and clean. And the PRICE! You cannot beat it! Everything is within easy walking distance, or you can take the metro. The neighborhood is clean, safe and quiet. This was our first time i the Latin quarter and it is a very nice area. There are a lot of good places to eat nearby that the locals go to.

When folks said the rooms were small they were not joking. We're not sure this hotel is worth the location since it is on the RER line and a little more hassle to get connected to the Metro from the RER. We decided that since we know how to take the Metro, next time we would get a hotel a little farther out with better accommodations for a cheaper price. In our opinion, this hotel was not worth the price for the location. The bathrooms were nice and clean and the staff was very helpful but it did not make up for the size of the room.

This Hotel is just steps from the Luxembourg Metro station which makes it easy access to all areas of Paris. We stayed in Europe for a month in 10 different hotels and by far the Des Mines had the best shower; small but great h20 pressure! Our room (407) was just freshly painted a beautiful Coral. This room was very small but was on the courtyard therefore was quiet. When the housekeeper was servicing some of the other rooms I noticed they seemed to be larger. We felt the Price vs.Quality was a good value and we would stay in this hotel again.

The most remarkable surprize was the bathroom. Quite unusual for a 2 stars hotel in Paris (with under 100 Euros) to get such a spacious nice bathroom! The hotel itself was also quite nice. The only problem is the relative thickness of walls, but nothing dramatic. We will definitely consider this hotel for our future stays in Paris.

This hotel was ideal for our requirements, clean and quiet, although rooms were small as we had been warned. Facilities were excellent, staff friendly and helpful, and location great (Latin Quarter) as we required. We would go again!

Very close to the RER station which was very useful. We were on the first floor, but were very rarely disturbed by noise from the trains. Nice area. Make sure to have lots of change with you if you intend to use the train as the ticket machines don't accept notes or foreign credit cards.

We really enjoyed our stay. A bit out of the way, but easy to hop on the metro or take a nice walk to nearby sights. The room was small as expected, but not uncomfortably so. Very clean and with a large bathroom. Most of the staff were very helpful as well. We definitely recommend it for the price.

We had a good stay there although the room was small but most european rooms are. All the staff spoke fluent english, and were helpful. In particular Mohammed on the front desk was very helpful - he even loaned Peter his suit jacket when we were off to the Moulin Rouge! We enjoyed our stay here and thought it was good value for money. We recommend you ask for a room on the top floor to avoid the sound of the metro.

Consigliato.

We were very pleased with our room, altho I didn't know that "superior" meant 3 beds. I thought it meant a "superior" room. The staff were knowledgeable and very helpful, loved the location, close to the RER. It was a very good introduction to your service. Thank you.

Although only a brief walk from the subway station... it could be rather daunting, especially late at night. We encountered several homeless beggars on the way. The hotel is conveniently located to Notre Dame and other major attractions. The rooms are small and cramped, as expected. The room IS air conditioned! This was the ONLY hotel of the 12 we stayed at throughout Europe with one. 15 Euros for a croissant, juice and coffee; quite the rip off. Extremely small elevator. Quiet, especially if you request a courtyard view room.

This hotel was a good place to stay. The room was a bit small but I believe that is the norm for Paris. It was quiet there. We had a metro station just a few minutes walk from the front door but we tended to walk every where. I would recommend this as a good place to stay if you are looking for a quiet hotel. I would stay here again.

Lo único para decir es que la habitación en la planta baja tenía el ruido permanente del subte y que no tenía frigobar. Todo lo demás, muy bueno. Lo volvería a elegir.

This is a very good hotel for the money. Pretty good location, not so far from Notra Dame and the Latin Quarter. Subway station is about 5 min walking. We were worry about the subway noise reported in other posts. You can definitely hear and feel it, but we didnt find the low rumbling noise a real problem. Over all, we are happy with our stay.

Perfectly decent accommodation for the very reasonable price. Rooms a little small but then you dont do much more than sleep in them (!?). Asked for a room at the back of the hotel which left us well clear of noisy roads and the rumblings of the metro.

I read lots of reviews of similarly priced hotels before settling on Des Mines. It seemed to offer the best value around and we were not disappointed. In fact, I would unhesitatingly recommend it. Friendly helpful staff who spoke many languages, great location, clean room, relatively good value both for the room and for the breakfast. I am an extremely light sleeper and slept well for each of the three nights we were there. What more could you ask?

A fine place, excellently located a short block from the RER B line entrance, so perfect for our one night in Paris between flights out of CDG. Good towels. Breakfast not included in price. If there was one oddity, it was that even on the fourth floor, the rumble of Metro and RER trains could be felt and heard in the building walls.

The area around the hotel was great and it was only 10 minutes' walk from Notre-Dame and just a couple of minutes' from Jardins de Luxembourg, but the room was definitely too small and incredibly noisy, you can hear even the RER going under your bed!!! No problems about cleanliness of rooms, but I don't think I would go there again.

Personnel was friendly, and everything went okay. The room was relatively clean (French standard) but pretty small, so was the bath room. But that is probably normal for Paris as is the quality/price ratio.

Rooms very clean, although not as nice as portrayed in their website photos. A five minute walk to the Pantheon and about a 20 minute walk to Notre Dame. My only complaint was the noise. Because this hotel has no air conditioning, in the hot summer months one has no choice but to leave the windows open at night. Since the windows face a courtyard, you can hear (in great detail) every conversation held in every other room -- and some continued till the early morning hours. If you choose to stay here during the hot summer months, I suggest you bring some ear plugs if you want to get any sleep at all.

A brilliant location! Fantastic for metro access but also for walking to many attractions. Plenty of restaurants, shops and internet cafes nearby. Couldn't find a better hotel for the price. A modest hotel but comfortable and clean with terrific service from English speaking reception staff. Had a very traditional Parisian feel to it. Would definitely stay again and would highly recommend it to others.

The Hotel Des Mines was a lovely hotel to holiday in, especially for Paris. The location is great on a main thoroughfare but suitably quiet and close to the beautiful Jardin du Luxembourg (where we joined the Parisians for a jog most mornings!). There are a small number of problems though: our room did not have air-con, which was made it very difficult to sleep in mid-July! Also, the hotel is built over a metro line and from our first floor room you could hear a distant rumble not unlike thunder for much of the day and into the night - you did start to get used to this after a few days though! Ask for a room on the top floor if staying here. The rooms were otherwise great - very clean and tidy with fresh towels everyday and a great shower!
