Paris accommodation seemed to be very expensive, and Sorbonne Cluny was in an awesome location - we walked just about everywhere! The room was clean, tidy and well appointed, and staff were helpful and friendly, even loaning us cutlery for a picnic lunch.

The area where the hotel is located is nice. The staff were competent and helpful. It was clean and tidy. I encountered two problems though during my stay: from the room I was in I could hear my neighbours using the bathroom, flushing the toilet, showering, talking and coughing. I could have had a conversation with them. Not ideal when you want an early night. Second problem was with the WIFI, which was not working in my room. I had to use my laptop at the hotel's reception. I was travelling on business and these two problems I encountered made my stay not so pleasant.

Very helpful and welcoming staff. Room small but spotless. However, bathroom very small and shower a nightmare. Bring your own hairdryer as ours was too small and prone to overheating. Only major downside was the traffic noise in the morning- it was pretty loud. Overall good value for money in a great location- 5 mins walk to Notre Dame and we also walked to Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Champs Elysees.

Room was tiny. Light in bathroom wouldn't work - even after bulb was changed. Shower so small that water leaked out on floor. No bicycle storage available. Look around for a better deal than this.

I was at this hotel only one night while awaiting a flight out the next day. The hotel was about what I expected for France, and not necessarily disappointing. The hotel staff was kind enough to let me store my cheese in their refrigerator and helpful in calling shuttles and taxis. There was a lot of street noise overnight that didn't allow for good sleeping but it's probably my fault for staying in a 'college area'. I would probably pick a more residential area next time but that is just my choice.

Lovely hotel in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Rooms are small, but perfectly clean. Besides -- it's Paris: don't go expecting to spend much time in the hotel room. Staff was friendly, though the cleaning staff couldn't quite grasp my broken French, the front desk staff was very patient with me. The only negative was that the elevator was broken during my trip. I think they must have been trying to fix it, because some banging woke me up a few mornings. I'm not complaining about the banging, though, because it got me up and out (and didn't start until after 9 a.m. anyway.) My room faced a courtyard, so no street noise. I didn't have the in-hotel breakfast, so I can't comment on that. Based on other reviews, it seems you might be able to find a better deal at a local boulangerie, where the pain au chocolat is to die for. I also didn't have my laptop, though I understand there's wireless Internet available at the hotel. There's an Internet cafe just down the street that's open 24 hours.

We stayed at Cluny Sorbonne for 3 nights for the Valentine's weekend and would happily stay again. Very good value for money, no thrill but no hassle, excellent location, friendly people, rooms cleaned daily. Our double room no. 53 had great rooftop views of the Sorbonne and Panthenon. For cheap drinks and food nearby try student/cinema bar Le reflet opposite to to a cinema at 6, Rue Champollion. If you don't want to have your breakfast at the hotel (served to your room as well!), try the breakfast menu (croissant, fresh orange juice & coffee) for €4.50 at Deli on Rue Soufflot near the Pantheon. For a cheap but filling Parisian lunch try daily menu at La Fresque, 100, Rue Rambuteau near Les Hales/Centre Pompidou.

If a hotel room was like real estate this hotel would be park lane on the monoply board. Fantastic location. However, it is impossible to swing a cat in the room. Even more problematic is the fact that the shower is in fact something that is neither a shower nor a bath. This bizarre hybrid requires you to sit down while holding the shower head in your hand, making washihg your hair a chore and the whole experience less than enjoyable.

I found this hotel very quaint. The location is amazing. It was near all the major places in Paris. It is 15 minutes from the Notre Dame, two seconds from the Université de Paris and 5 minutes from the latin quarter on foot. The staff was very friendly and even booked a tour for us. The rooms are definately small, but it is clean and simple and what you need for a visit in Paris. It is very accessible by train as the train station is approx. 10 minute walk. The breakfast was a typical French mini breakfast. I would definately go there again.

Middle aged female and her mother!
Australia, Apr 2008

I stayed at the Cluny Sorbonne with my 77 year old mother for 4 days in April 08. I had requested a non-smoking, twin room on the first floor as my mother does not like lifts. The hotel had taken this into consideration and our room was ideal. Small, but ideal. We looked onto the street (one way only) so there was some light traffic at night. Initially we had left the window open because the room was warm, but when we turned the heater off we closed the window and this kept out noise. Some noise when neighbours used their shower, but otherwise peaceful. The decor was a little "tired" but clean. The beds were very comfortable and the sheets and towels were changed daily. Plenty of hot water. Only (minor) problem was that one of the bedside lights did not work and this was not fixed during our stay, despite being reported. We had breakfast in the hotel on two mornings: coffee, OJ, croissants, bread and jams. Very good - though not included in room cost as I had thought. Cluny Sorbonne is probably for budget travellers who intend to spend all day seeing Paris and who just need a shower and a comfortable bed at the end of the day. It is perfect for such visitors and its location - just a stroll from Notre Dame, the Museum of the Middle Ages etc was fantastic.

We were in Paris in April 2008. This hotel has small rooms, which I knew and worked just fine. Great location!!!!!! Only complaint, the staff. I would ask for restaurant suggestions, and get very pricy places. I also had a medical emergency and asked for assistance finding a doctor, and they sent me to a clinic without finding out when it was open or if the doctor was even in town, which he wasn't. I ended up having to find a clinic on my own. Otherwise, pretty good value for the location and money.

We stayed at Hotel Cluny Sorbonne for 3 nights in april 2008. We stayed in room 22, which was more spacious than we had expected, with a good size bathroom. I knew that the room would be small but this must be the SMALLEST hotel room I have ever stayed in not to mention the bathroom! I HAD read that in one? room you could not keep the toilet lid open and that was unfortunately the case in our room - or maybe that's the case in all rooms? Fortunately me and my daughter are not too stout but if you have a few extra kilos I would say this is not a hotel suitable for you! We stayed in a twin bed room but it was only 10 centimeters between the two beds. And I also agree with earlier guests that the breakfast room is not very welcoming; it's nicer to have breakfast in one of the cafés on Place de Sorbonne.

Nice! A hotel that offers what hotel´s suppose to offer; a good enough room, a good night´s sleep, clean shower and nice made bed, decent breakfast with a nice lady making it (but the coffee could have been stronger), nice and attentive people working there night and day and very nice surroundings, both for shopping, dining, walking and for to go elsewhere! Very easy to get to from airports, RER and Metro, easy to find and very good correspondence from the excpectations. The price is also very fair.

After having read about the small rooms I expected a tiny room, but was pleasantly surprised when I found myself in a double room (I was travelling alone) with more than enough space. The bathroom was a little on the small side, but I was really pleased to find a bathtub in there. It was a must after all the walking! Despite that the room was next to the lift, I hardly heard a sound. The only thing I would have changed about the stay would have been asking for a room facing the street/Sorbonne rather than the back. The hotel has a great location, and has great bus connections for travelling in Paris, and easy airport connections. I would definitely stay here again!

We were here for the first week in July 2007 for our honeymoon. We found the accomodations, the staff and the location to be excellent. The rooms are a bit small for two people, but considering it was our honeymoon, closeness is exactly what we were looking for! The elevator is very small, as is the bathing facilities in the room, but it was a small price to pay for the very favorable impression we had of our trip overall. Job well done, Cluny Sorbonne!! (We strongly recommend Les Patios restaurant around the corner in the Place de Sorbonne. EVERYTHING we ordered there was delicious!!! And the staff very friendly!!)

Hotel Cluny is a reasonable little, emphasizing the word ‘little’, 2 star hotel in the heart of the Latin Quarter. One can’t ask for a better location, as it is directly before the Sorbonne University, and it is walkable to all major tourist attractions. The rooms are small (the bathroom resembles a telephone cabinet), and the sanitation of the sheets and towels were questionable; however, as we were there for a weekend, we didn’t mind the shabby condition of our room. Worth noting, the receptionists are quite friendly and welcoming, which made the stay exceptionally pleasant.

hotel is only less than 10 minutes walk from the RER B luxembourg train station (direct line to CDG airport for 8.10 Euros) and 10 mins from the nearest metro station (cluny) and RER C line. people with luggage beware, no lifts in stations, just a whole lot of stairs! 1 block from the busy main street yet very quiet and safe to walk back at night. on some days the main door was locked and i had to ring in for the receptionist to open the door. key is given to the receptionist each time you leave the hotel for the day. i had the 6th floor facing the courtyard, it was about 40s-50s and the room's heater provided good heat. overall, clean room and bathroom - limited complimentary shampoo, bath gel etc. basic channels on TV, with 1 CNN channel in English. I agree that walls are thin, can hear my neighbours coming in at night and talking, thankfully they are not that noisy. i am a non smoker and had problems with smoke coming into the room through the door, and i had to open the hallway window. room was without breakfast - not a problem as there are vendors selling fresh crepes (around 2 Euros) and bakeries open. Nearby heart of the latin quartier provided cheap choices for dinner, ie greek gyros and the plat du jour specials. within 5-20 mins walking distance to all the major sights in the 5th and 6th arrondissement and to notre dame.

Ratio location/price is the key factor to describe our stay at Cluny Hotel. Location is excellent, price was unbeatable. Bed was clean and comfortable. We were confused trying to find the hotel because we were not aware that a famous ruin very close to the hotel is called the "Hotel Cluny". We were following the directional signs on the streets to the "Hotel Cluny" and these led us to the ruins, not the hotel, but they were only a few blocks away from each other. Hotel is ok for a place to sleep, but rooms are tiny. Tips. 1. Get two keys, one to keep air conditioning on while gone from room. 2. There is a small kiosk-like shop 1/2 block down the hill from the hotel that sells great coffee and pastries for much less than the hotel or other restaurants nearby.

I was satisfied with the stay. However, two things: first, the photos show the rooms a bit more fancy from what they are in fact and second, the concierge at night sat babbling loudly at the c.desk in the lobby and the noise went directly up by the staircase. I stayed at the second floor and I was disturbed by this. They (the concierge again)smoked a lot in the lobby too (at night). Had I stayed another night I would have made a complaint but now I didn't bother./CL

The Cluny Sorbonne is a nice little hotel - well situated in the Latin Quarter and close to metro lines and the RER with a direct line to Charles de Gaulle airport. The lobby was very clean and fancier than I had expected. Don't take the elevator if you are claustrophobic - it can just barely fit one person + suitcase! Our room (a twin) was small but clean, as was the bathroom. The window faced into an inner courtyard, so was sheltered from any street noise. My only complaint was that someone in an adjacent room was smoking ALL NIGHT LONG. Perhaps because we had the window open (it was hot),the smoke from next door was drawn into our room. The smell was bad enough that I hardly slept at all - not such a nice experience on the night before a long flight home. Overall, this hotel is a very good value for Paris, and is in an excellent location. I would stay again, but would request to stay on a non-smoking floor if possible.

The hotel is very good for staying. The personal es nice, and helpful. They enforce you to learn some words in their language, but always help you in English (and a little bit spanish if they can). The rooms are small, but we didn't need more space. The room we were in only had one electric plug (the one of the TV), so we had to charge our camera on reception. Once again the personal was very helpful on this.

I was highly disappointed in this hotel which I selected based on recommendations on this website. While all rooms in Paris are generally small...this one was extreme. I was a single person travelling with a backpack, and I could barely find the floor space to put down my backpack. And the noise was unbelievable!! Not from the street but from within the hotel itself. The walls were paper thin and not only was I constantly woken by people arriving back to the hotel late at night and talking loudly in the lobby and stairwells but I could hear the man in the next room snoring loudly. I was also woken early in the morning by people talking and clattering plates over breakfast. The cleanliness of the rooms was ok...but not to the standards of other hotels I stayed at in France. And the hideous green colour of my room could be improved upon. The furniture in the room was old and the room had an aged and unkept feel. I was perhaps most disappointed by the location. I thought it would be nice to be so close to the main sights. However, I found the location inconvienent. It was quite a long walk to the Lourve and I had to transfer trains twice to get to the Eiffel tower. (While I was there the RER C stations near this hotel were closed.) Two weeks earlier, upon my arrival in France I stayed at the Petite Palace Hotel near Gare Montparnasse for the same price. This was a much better hotel...larger, spotless, quiet rooms with a very friendly and accommodating couple that own and run the hotel. It is about 600 m from Gare Montparnasse where there are countless meteo connections and it was extremely easy to get around. I never had to change trains and the area is full of many, good uncrowded restaurants. I think you may get more for your money if you avoid the Latin Quarter and use the excellent public transport in Paris.

This hotel was a real highlight. The location and service were second to none. We were made to feel welcome - which is something of a rarity in a big city hotel with this star rating. The staff were among the most friendly we have encountered. All of the comments about the lift are correct - it has to be seen to be believed! The bathrooms are tiny but who cares - you do not go to Paris to spend time in your room. We will return when next in Paris.

Perfect location for Notre dame,Louvre,Musee D'Orsay & the Seine. Room was rather small but as I was out most of the time, this really didn't matter. Staff friendly & helpful. I have already rebooked to stay in this hotel later this summer.

As typical of a budget hotel, rooms (and elevator) were very small. That said, the room was clean and quiet, we had everything we needed, the location was superb, and the price was definitely right. Notre Dame, the quais, the Louvre, the D'Orsay were all in walking distance. Metro and RER were just around the corner. And we loved being close to the Luxembourg Gardens-- and the Rue Moufftard. Great budget choice

It's not the Ritz, but this hotel was a very good value. Clean, small rooms at a good price with a great Left Bank location close to Metro. I'll stay here again.

I was very pleased with my choice of this Hotel. The directions from Luxembourg Metro were very easy to follow. Breakfast @ 6 euro was very good value in my opinion and generally I found almost all the Staff very helpful. If I have one criticism it is a concern about fire escape possibilities in the case of an emergency. Otherwise a very enjoyable experience.

I was upsolutely happy during my stay there. The surrounding area is good and the public transport to airport and exhibition halls is perfect. I am not sure how to manage with 2 people in a double room, but one is just fine.

Very good location in the Latin Quarter, close to shops, restaurants, etc. Just a short 10 minute walk to the river and about 15 minutes walk to Notre Dame. The hotel is very small and is situated on a side street opposite the university. There is no air conditioning so we found it very hot when we went in August. We had lovely huge windows to open however, this made it too noisy to sleep at night. The hotel room was very small, the bathroom door couldn't open fully as it bashed into the bed. Just enough room to walk around the bed to the other side. The room had a traditional wooden wardrobe and table in and that's about it. Not really enough room for suitcases, I kept stubbing my toes on mine. Bathroom very small with just enough room to walk in and stand at the sink (but not bend at the sink, your bum bashes the door), take a step to the right and turn around to use the loo or take a step to the left and back into the shower! Also, the bathroom light kept going off and we had to wiggle the bare wires. Breakfast was not very good, it consisted of a piece of baguette and one croissant each....yes really that was it! Overall, I would rate our stay as satisfactory and the hotel was clean, however I think if I returned I would stay somewhere outside of the centre and perhaps get more for my money.

Between '99 and 03, we had weekended in Paris apx 6 times with friends. Whilst on a week's family hol in Ile de France Oct 04, we spent a day in Paris, which prompted us to spend a week, as a family in Paris in Oct 05. I specifically wanted a hotel in the Sorbonne/Pantheon area, as with children aged 11 and 8, we would be in the triangle of Jardin du Luxembourg/Pantheon/Notre Dame where there are a host of inexpensive restaurants (flexibility for meal times). I chose the Cluny Sorbonne as it had a "quadruple room" (not easy to get!)and the reviews were very favourable, specifically balance of cost/comfort, which were borne out. The fact that it was close to Luxembourg RER meant we would have to make just 1 direct train journey (picking up the train at CDG airport, and go straight through). The Hotel staff were very courteous, approachable and helpfull. We read in the reviews that some rooms were not huge, but our Quad was bigger than expected. The location, as anticipated, was excellent, with short walks to bus/metro stops. Next time we go to Paris, there'll be no wondering where to stay as there's no need to consider anywhere else other than Cluny Sorbonne.

The hotel is in a great location, very close to shops, restaurants, and many attractions. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. They spoke English well enough to get the information we needed. The room however, was small and a little uncomfortable. The bathroom was very very small. I know this is "normal" for big-city Europe but I don't like it at all. Although the hotel is located on a small, little used one-way street (opposite the Sorbonne), night time street noise (cars, people) seemed to penetrate walls and wake you out of a deep sleep...at least for the first 2 nights of our stay.. We spent very little time in the room (as it should be while on vacation) but when we were there we were constantly maneuvering over or around suitcases and bags from shopping. Space was extremely limited. As well, there was only one accessible electrical outlet. It was located in the bathroom light fixture. The room and the hotel were clean. Their staff seem to look after things well. We didn't try the breakfast. We might consider staying there on our next trip...but I would do some research to see what else is in the area.
