Overall this is a quaint little hotel situated directly opposite the Sorbonne in The Latin Quarter so it's location is wonderful. It was out first visit to Paris and we weren't sure what to expect with the hotel but our room, although fairly small by international standards, was serviced every day and was more than adequate for the time we spent there and if we are ever fortunate enough to return to Paris we would be more than happy to stay there again.

We love this hotel (second stay). This time we had a room looking out on to an interior courtyard and it was very quiet. The room was also slightly bigger. The hotel has retained much of its period character and is amazingly good value considering its location in the Latin Quarter close to the Luxembourg Garden. We will definitely stay there next time. Only minus: breakfast choices a bit limited, but excellent friendly staff.

Have just returned from a very enjoyable 4 days in Paris, the Cluny hotel is as described and does the job for a short break in Paris very well, the room was a bit on the small side but we expected that, the staff were helpful and polite, we didn't try the food so cant comment on it, overall a great little place to stay in the centre of everything with some lovely restaurants nearby.

Pretty dissatisfied with this place. It's shabby, my room is on the top floor and at both windows all of the wallpaper is peeling off like there is a leak coming in when it rains. Even though it's one of the bigger rooms it's small and very outdated. Smells like it is or was a smoking room that's never been cleaned, only ONE power outlet in the whole room which is used for the TV, and being on the top floor with the aforementioned leaky windows which are also very drafty it's freezing in my room tonight with the heat on high. Oh and they won't give you extra blankets unless you trek all the way back downstairs to get them. Thankfully my room had a second bed so I just pulled the blankets off of that to keep warm. When checking in and asking the front desk for their internet password I was informed that the internet barely works on the top floor as the signal does not reach that far? To bad I booked here for the area and the free internet access to be able to get some work done at the end of my vacation before flying home in a couple of days. The front desk was very apologetic about it and promised that I would be switched to a first floor room tomorrow afternoon but I've already booked another hotel room for tomorrow night. So when sitting in their lobby where I can connect to the internet it smells as the manager or whoever is cooking fish stinking up the whole area, the gentleman at the front desk is listening to dance music and watching video's at a low volume however still distracting, a lot of people talking, etc. Not a quiet pleasant environment to work in. They also make you leave your room key at the front desk when leaving the hotel then retrieve it upon returning. Very inconvenient waiting for someone to come to the desk as there is no bell to ring at the desk, and since your room key sits just behind the desk in plain view right by the front door for anyone to take it doesn't make me feel very secure about leaving anything in my room. *** Updated *** Che

I used reviews to book this hotel and decided to return the favor. I loved our stay in Paris and was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The room is on the smaller side with small bathroom, but that was not an issue for us (just a note to those who care). Everything was clean, beds were made and clean towels were provided. Breakfast was extra charge but I would say good value. The hotel is easy to find, easy to get to from CDG and is in a fabulous location. We walked everywhere! Very nice area around Jardin du Luxembourg and many restaurants.

The best attributes of the Cluny Sorbonne are its location, and its very welcoming, helpful staff. Although the rooms are small, the beds are comfortable and the tv reception is great. Street noise (late-night revellers, early morning traffic) may affect light sleepers. The breakfast, while handy for those who may be in a hurry, is not the best value. The staff were very helpful in suggesting and reserving private transportation to take our party to the airport on the day of departure from Paris -- a good, dependable alternative to a last minute taxi or the RER.

The room was small, but for the price I paid I was not expecting anything different. Very clean, and daily change of towels which I think is over the standard for a 2 star hotel. It's perfect as a budget hotel in a great location in Paris. Loads of restaurants, bars, bistrot and brasseries in the surrounding area. I would definitely stay there again on a future trip to Paris.

Possibly the smallest room I have ever stayed in but what I expected for a 2 star hotel in such a location. The room itself was clean and who is going to hold a bal masque after a day of foot slogging around the tourist spots of Paris. All you want is a clean bed and conk out. The bathroom was tiny but clean and the shower outstanding. The staff were always helpful and very pleasant, and the location good although being outside the Sorbonne, the students chatter was a bit loud ! However, I have been in worse areas of paris. All in all, just what I would expect for the money I paid.

This is an inexpensive hotel in a great location on the left bank - right next to the Sorbonne and close to Jardins Luxembourg and the Latin Quarter. It is within five minutes walk of Luxembourg RER station which is very helpful for getting around town. The hotel itself is adequate rather than exceptional - rooms are a little on the small side and the decor and fittings a little aged - but that is what you would expect for the money. This is a hotel to sleep in and use as a base for visiting Paris. The staff are helpful and have good English.

A longtime friend and I spent five days in Paris and stayed at the Hotel Cluny Sorbonne. We had a fantastic stay, mainly due to being given the 'penthouse suite'. Hotel staff told us upon checkin that we were getting a quad rather then a twin room we had reserved - twice the room for half the price. The room was on the sixth floor with fabulous views of the Pantheon. Spending time in the room was an absolute pleasure! The other rooms we caught a glimpse of during our stay had double beds and were quite small - such a room would definitely have been much less enjoyable. In general, the hotel is getting a bit shabby, including the awning on the front. The hotel is in a GREAT location. Walk just a hundred yards either way and you'll find restaurants and shops. The Amorino ice cream and coffee shop on Rue Soufflot is a real treat. Luxembourg Garden is two short blocks away, with a stop on the RER that goes to both airports. I would certainly consider the Cluny Sorbonne again, but am afraid we wouldn't luck out a second time in getting what must have been the best room in the hotel...

Great location, on a street with very little traffic. The rooms are a little small, but clean. One issue was the intermittent hotel WIFI. It worked fine initially but by the middle of the trip, I could not log-in during the afternoons (only in wee hours of mornings, late at night). Brought this to hotel staff attention, but the issue was not resolved. Otherwise, price-wise this place is a gem. Can hear some grumbling at night (Metro??) but it did not interefere with sleep. Although the room looked dated, my bathroom had recently been remodeled. Bang for buck, this place is definitely fits the bill.

It's also only a 7-8 minute walk to Rue de Mouffetard where we found some amazing restaurants and bars in the Latin Quarter, as well as some bars. Booked reservation through venere.com and stayed at the Hotel Cluny Sorbonne (room 62) for 10 days in early September 2011. Reservation process was smooth, no issues. Hotel was as advertized: a no frills, clean, maintained, friendly budget hotel in a really great location. Arrived a little early (11:00am)and planned to leave luggage with the hotel and check-in later, but the room was ready. Front desk staff was friendly and spoke English well enough. Elevator was small but adequate for two adults or one adult and stacked luggage. Room was cleaned, towels replaced and bed was made daily. Freestanding closet was about 28” wide with about 8 hangars and space above for a large suite case and space at the bottom for a small suite case to get them out of the way. Room also had a small desk (24”), two small night stands with a phone and a luggage rack. Wake up calls are available. The double bed was comfortable, not too hard but certainly not plush. Weather was warmer than expected (80/65F vs. forecast 70/55F), but it was nice with the window open at night (typical shears, no screen). Would not recommend staying in the heat of the summer months as the room has no air conditioning, ventilation or ceiling fan. With RER B closed for construction at CDG, we took the Air France Bus to Porte Maillot, Neuilly-Porte Maillot RER C to St Michel-Notre Dame and walked through the interconnecting tunnel to Cluny La Sorbonne Metro. This route had escalators each direction most of the way which made travelling with wheeled luggage relatively easy! Was a short walk from the metro to the Air France bus stop and to the hotel. For the price, we liked the Hotel Cluny Sorbonne and wouldn’t hesitate to return. At the airport, I realized that I forgot to return the room key. The key was marked to drop it in a letter box for that contingency. I gave the room key to a Delta agent that agreed to drop it off.

Small hotel, located in a wonderful place in Paris very close to the Sorbonne Square. The staff is kind and the room comfortable and very quiet, which I appreciate so much. On the negative side, I just have to say that the toilet is not so comfortable because of the lack of space (i.e. you can't easily wash your face because of the shelf over the washbasin). We trawled through many websites looking for decent accomodation in a great area of Paris - and this hotel did not disappoint one bit. The location is fabulous for the opportunity of walking everywhere central easily and safely. We didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel - we ate breakfasts out in cafes in Saint Germain - but it suited our needs perfectly. For a sense of comfort, security and value we'd definitely stay here again.

The hotel was very nice for the price. The location is fantastic - close to the RER B (to/from Charles DeGaulle Airport in 25 minutes), near the Luxemborg Gardens, and across the street from the Sorbonne. Room was very small but I was traveling alone; if 2 people had to use the room it would definitely be crowded. The room had the smallest bathroom I have ever seen - almost impossible for anyone tall/large to use comfortably. The bed was very comfortable and breakfast was very adequate. The staff at the front desk were very friendly, helpful and spoke excellent English. Only complaint I had was the room smelled of cigarette smoke. It would be nice if they had non-smoking rooms throughout. I would definitely stay there again.

Very small rooms, rooms are cleaned every day, great location (windows overlooking the Sorbonne). For this price-OK.

Our first stay at the Hotel, but not our last. Small but cozy room. The receptionist was very helpful and gave us good tips what to do and see.

Paris accommodation seemed to be very expensive, and Sorbonne Cluny was in an awesome location - we walked just about everywhere! The room was clean, tidy and well appointed, and staff were helpful and friendly, even loaning us cutlery for a picnic lunch.

The area where the hotel is located is nice. The staff were competent and helpful. It was clean and tidy. I encountered two problems though during my stay: from the room I was in I could hear my neighbours using the bathroom, flushing the toilet, showering, talking and coughing. I could have had a conversation with them. Not ideal when you want an early night. Second problem was with the WIFI, which was not working in my room. I had to use my laptop at the hotel's reception. I was travelling on business and these two problems I encountered made my stay not so pleasant.

Very helpful and welcoming staff. Room small but spotless. However, bathroom very small and shower a nightmare. Bring your own hairdryer as ours was too small and prone to overheating. Only major downside was the traffic noise in the morning- it was pretty loud. Overall good value for money in a great location- 5 mins walk to Notre Dame and we also walked to Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Champs Elysees.

Room was tiny. Light in bathroom wouldn't work - even after bulb was changed. Shower so small that water leaked out on floor. No bicycle storage available. Look around for a better deal than this.

I was at this hotel only one night while awaiting a flight out the next day. The hotel was about what I expected for France, and not necessarily disappointing. The hotel staff was kind enough to let me store my cheese in their refrigerator and helpful in calling shuttles and taxis. There was a lot of street noise overnight that didn't allow for good sleeping but it's probably my fault for staying in a 'college area'. I would probably pick a more residential area next time but that is just my choice.

Lovely hotel in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Rooms are small, but perfectly clean. Besides -- it's Paris: don't go expecting to spend much time in the hotel room. Staff was friendly, though the cleaning staff couldn't quite grasp my broken French, the front desk staff was very patient with me. The only negative was that the elevator was broken during my trip. I think they must have been trying to fix it, because some banging woke me up a few mornings. I'm not complaining about the banging, though, because it got me up and out (and didn't start until after 9 a.m. anyway.) My room faced a courtyard, so no street noise. I didn't have the in-hotel breakfast, so I can't comment on that. Based on other reviews, it seems you might be able to find a better deal at a local boulangerie, where the pain au chocolat is to die for. I also didn't have my laptop, though I understand there's wireless Internet available at the hotel. There's an Internet cafe just down the street that's open 24 hours.

We stayed at Cluny Sorbonne for 3 nights for the Valentine's weekend and would happily stay again. Very good value for money, no thrill but no hassle, excellent location, friendly people, rooms cleaned daily. Our double room no. 53 had great rooftop views of the Sorbonne and Panthenon. For cheap drinks and food nearby try student/cinema bar Le reflet opposite to to a cinema at 6, Rue Champollion. If you don't want to have your breakfast at the hotel (served to your room as well!), try the breakfast menu (croissant, fresh orange juice & coffee) for €4.50 at Deli on Rue Soufflot near the Pantheon. For a cheap but filling Parisian lunch try daily menu at La Fresque, 100, Rue Rambuteau near Les Hales/Centre Pompidou.

If a hotel room was like real estate this hotel would be park lane on the monoply board. Fantastic location. However, it is impossible to swing a cat in the room. Even more problematic is the fact that the shower is in fact something that is neither a shower nor a bath. This bizarre hybrid requires you to sit down while holding the shower head in your hand, making washihg your hair a chore and the whole experience less than enjoyable.
