Good rooms, but a little to the small side - we stayed in nr. 52 on the top floor, and we think the rooms on the lower floors are a little bigger, due to the room taken up by the balcony. The rooms appear larger on the photos on the webpage than in real life. The public areas are very small, and located right next to the street door. This made us choose not to have breakfast at the hotel, but rather find it in nearby cafes. Excellent internetservice, free WiFi! Just remember to bring your own laptop.

We are a young couple who chose Paris for our honeymoon. All we needed a small, clean and comfy 3 star hotel to spend the nights in,for we were planning an active holiday. Though it was quite difficult for us to find the location, for it is situated on a small street which was not indicated on our Paris map. We asked a few locals, but they had never heard of Jules Chaplain street. Finally we found it ourselves,it's a 2 minutes walk across main street Montparnasse. You should first find Rue Brea, then it's all easy. The hotel ended up being the sweetest place in Paris for us. it's like a little doll house, but very neat, clean and cosy. We stayed in a double "club room"(there's also classic room a little cheaper). The bed sheets are how they should be, the towels are stiff from washing and soft at the same time. A very nice bathroom with new appliances and a clean tub. We had our breakfast downstairs at the lounge and it was perfect. There's also a laptop with connection, and fresh newspapers which you can enjoy during breakfast. Finally, the team was great. they were always there and ready to help. I definetely recommend hotel jules chaplain rive gauche! Bon voyage!

The rooms here are tiny, but they're immaculately clean, well-appointed, reasonably priced for Paris, and comfortable. The service is excellent: friendly, helpful, and replete with nice touches: free wi-fi, free minibar (if memory serves), air-con, and so on.

Hotel room was small but htat is common in europe. Great location - quiet area, close to restaurants, metro station and a laundromat. It was a little noisy a couple of nights as patrons left local restaurants/pubs around midnight. Staff were helpful and spoke excellent english.

Nice place not too far from public transport. But if you are in Paris for one of the frequent transportation strikes (like we were) you are very far from tourist sites. The bathroom was a little moldy and we had to stand outside one night for 10 minutes ringing the bell until someone came upstairs and let us in, only to complain about me ringing the bell. Another staff person was very helpful in finding us a shuttle service to the airport.

When we arrived, the hotel had no record of our reservation. I had the papers from Venere and we were put into the family room. This room was spacious for two people, but would have been a squeeze for a family. We were very lucky to have such a good room. The taxi the hotel booked for us at 4.30a.m. arrived on time for which we were grateful.

No hot water on one out of the two mornings we were there. rooms are very small. bathroom was an adequate size considering the size of the bedroom. no ceiling lights in the bedroom, just a little lamp. close to the metro, and lots of restaurants and shops around, a nice area to stay in.

I was looking for an affordable hotel in the 6th arrondissment that was close to a Metro stop. You couldn't do any better than Chaplain Rive Gauche. It's just around the corner from the Vavin Metro station (line 4) that's at the corner of Montparnasse and Raspail. The hotel is on a quiet, little side street just a few yards away. The staff was extremely friendly and the front desk is manned all night. My room was very clean and was quite spacious. I reserved a room for one person but was given a room that could sleep three. The bathroom was also quite spacious. My only complaint would be that the walls must be quite thin. I could plainly hear everything that was going on in the room next door...from conversations to a man snoring in the middle of the night. But even then, it wasn't bad enough to complain about. I was thrilled to find an affordable hotel in my favorite part of Paris that was clean and in a convenient location. I would definately stay here again.

The area in the Latin Quarter could not be better for the price. We walked to the Luxembourg Gardens and 3 different Metro stops within minutes. The first night was noisy but after we were moved it was just fine. I didn't like the black grout in the bathroom and my husband prefers a shower to a bath. The beds were soft but the room was not very clean. I guess our North Amercian standards are a bit high for Paris. However, I would recommend this hotel for families on a budget and appreciated Venere's further discount.

This hotel was well located in Saint Germain des Pres - near two metro stops and countless bistros. The room was clean and small, but large enough for two people and two large suitcases (the elevator was a tremendous help). Our only complaint was the bathroom could not be closed, but I believe that was only a problem with our room.

Overall evaluation is very good. Very close to the Metro station Vavin, located in a very quite and calm little street. Most of the attractive zone of Paris can also be reached by feet if you like walking and the day is good. Room was clean and the space in was enought. We didn't try the breakfast so i cannot judge it.

The brochure in my room mentioned that the hotel was "newly renovated". I am not sure how long they can keep saying that ... Although the hotel is kept very clean, it is starting to look a bit worn (stains on the carpet in hall, paint peeling, etc.). The staff is friendly and willing to help and the location is good. The hotel is located in a relatively quiet area of Paris with very good public transportion connections. On the whole, for a hotel in/near the center of Paris, the quality is good.

Good value for money, staff very helpful however we did have problems with night staff making too much noise on two ocassions so stay away from the room next to reception - otherwise this Hotel is certainly worth considering and very close to train subway - I would stay here again. We stayed for 2 nights at this hotel. The location is very good, public transportation net is close to the hotel. The room was on the ground floor, so we had to close the window because of the gusets sitting and talking in the little patio. The room was simple but tidy, and cosy. The breakfast and service was OK, I can recomend it, but be aware of the room on the ground floor.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff was very friendly and helpful expecially with help/questions concerning the baby. The only thing we would suggest to buy is a high chair, which would make the breakfast with small children a bit more relaxed. The room was very clean and even with a baby bed still big enough. There are many shops, restaurants around and Jardin du Luxembourg is also just around the corner.

My daughter and I were very happy at this hotel. The front desk people were beyond helpful and all spoke good English, a big plus for us. The location was excellent, the room/area quiet at night, close to restaurants, stores and necessities. Central area for getting around. This is the second time I have stayed at Chaplain Rive Gauche, and I would more than likely a third time when next in Paris. Staff are very friendly, helpful (fluent in English). The hotel is cosy, clean, and serves your needs if you need a nice play to rest while out exploring the city. The location is excellent (Metro Vavin is on line 4 which serves the train stations very well), and is in good walking distance for cafes, shops, parks, restaurants. Only gripe is with the night-time noise - be prepared to here some night late revellers, but nothing that really spoils your stay. Safe place for women travelling on their own.

Picked this Hotel because of the price for a Triple room and past reviews. Room was on 4th floor and had 2 Full sized beds. The room was large enough to accomodate 3 people and 3 large suitcases. Bathroom had a tight corner shower with a shower head that would not stay up high but could be hand held to rinse the shampoo out of your hair. Hotel is next door to a Pub so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. The Hotel is located near Montparnasse and is within a few blocks of 2 Metro stops so it is easy to get out to other parts of Paris. The area around the hotel is a nice combination of residential and retail with plenty of places to eat and shop. The neighborhood was nice but seemed slightly more modern compared to other areas of Paris.

Chaplain Rive Gauche is in a great location, so close to the Vavin metro station, various restaurants, a tiny grocery store, a pharmacy, a laundromat and a beautiful little bakery. The reception was very nice and professional (everyone we dealt with spoke very good English) and there was a tiny elevator but it wasn't bad to squish and much better than walking up to our floor as we had been in other countries. Our room had a bathroom which was of adequate size (both of us could fit in there easily at the same time), very clean and looked into the courtyard which made the room very quiet. In fact, it was so quiet we couldn't tell if there were any other guests in the hotel at all. The room was a little small, compared to American hotels, but we were expecting that from the pictures. For the good price in a city as expensive as Paris, I would definitely stay here again!

I would absolutely recommend Hotel Chaplain for those staying for a short break in Paris. The staff were very helpful and friendly, accommodating us when we changed our minds and requested two rooms not one. If you are triple sharing as we were, you should investigate getting two rooms, as the beds are double-sized, not queen. Perfect location, handy to metro, restaurants, parks, cafes. There's a homely feel to the hotel, and I intend on staying there again.

For me, reletively familar with Paris and a printmaker, I liked the location, Jules Chaplain was a printmaker. Man Ray, Jean-Paul Satre and Simon de Beauvoire rest peacefully in Montparness cemitery. Just around the corner in rue de la Grande Chaumiere is the wonderful Sennelier art shop and for more serious supplies Joop Stoop not too far away in rue de Brun (Metro Gobelin). Still in the 6th arr. but away from the general tourist crowd of St Germain. The Jardin du Luxembourg are always plesent with dialy French activities from concerts to reading Le Monde in the sun. The devine Deparment store Bon Marche and the true feel of Paris along Bould. Montparnass and Raspail. The staff's suggestion of local restaurants was excellent. My room with it's shutters and quite street view was perfect with it's modern, tasteful decore. DG Paterson

We stayed at hotel Chaplain Rive Gauche in Sept.2005. a great location in the Latin quarter, close to cafes, a laundra-mat and the train station. The room was clean, comfortable but we were aware of noises from the other rooms. Staff were friendly and assisted our limited French by speaking English. The hotel is situated in a narrow street which could make parking difficult (we did not have a car). A good choice.

Our quad room was very clean, with new linens and pillows. We had a problem with the thick bedspreads for the two double beds. The room size was adequate, but with four of us and our luggage, we could not find anywhere to put the bedspreads. Air conditioning would have been nice. It was August, very hot, and we couldn't leave our window open because of the restaurant next door. The breakfast was lovely, but not included in the room price. The staff was excellent.

Although the room and bathroom were of a good size, this hotel is small. The hallways and stairway are very small and narrow and our room was extremely close to the elevator. It was very noisy, especially in the mornings. The walls are so paper thin that it seemed like other people are in the room with you. The internet was out of service for our whole stay, and no one seemed to know or care when it would be fixed. There was no air conditioning so it was unpleasantly hot at times. Also don't like having to hand in my room key everytime I leave the building. Don't know that I'd stay here again.

I had a room facing the street. At night you need to leave your window open or the room gets to stuffy and hot because no Air conditioning or fans. From 3:00 AM on it is extremely loud outside with drunk kids coming out of Shannon pub and other loud distractions. I did not get any sleep at Hotel Chaplain. If you shut your window it block almost all of the noise. IF you need sleep try to reserve a room facing the courtyard in the heart of the hotel. The internal doors to the stairwell slam everytime guests use the stairs and that is very disturbing when trying to sleep. I heard loud noises in the morning upstairs when I went to investigate it was the maids making all the noise. It was as if they were constantly moving the furniture or dropping things. If you don't need to sleep this is the hotel for you it is conviently located near nice restaurants, movies, a nice park, and the metro. IF you are a woman you will enjoy the adjacent street next to the hotel it has clothing stores, a salon, and shoes. There also a wine store, a deli with great salmi and laundry matt, and an inexpensive cafe with good pastries right around the corner from Shannon Pub. The hotel staff were very nice and did their best to give tourists directions in Paris.

Very well located in a quiet street closed to Bd du Montparnasse and les Jardins du Luxembourg. Nice rooms. The night employee failed to wake me up at 5.15 and forgot to give me the invoice (I had paid the day before) despite the insurance I was given.

We were a family from Sweden with 2 kids in the age of 10 and 12 and we are so very pleased with the family room. Nice and quiet and big enough for the whole family. Really close to a metro as well.

Good accomodation, short walk to Luxumburg Garden. Close to many restaurants in Montparnasse. Staff friendly, laundromat across the road. Room basic but very clean.

Lovely small hotel in a great location with lots of nice cafes and bars in the vicinity, staff were professional and very courteous, even in the small hours! Would highly recommend this place to anyone going to Paris who wants a relatively quiet hotel in a good spot, just around the corner from a Metro station, with a bit of a nice vibe in the evenings... ***** !

I thought it was a great property, although the room was small for 4 people. Very friendly and helpfull staff. Good location to metro stop. Self service laundry, internet and supermarket within walking distance. I would definetly come back, just not stick four people in a room.

We are Singaporean Family of 4, looking for reasonable price hotel. Chaplain is consierably good. Family has no complain. Front desk speaks good english and hv no problem in communication. One night we came in late at past midnight and reception is there. I heard other hotel shut their doors past 11pm. This one didn't. Easy access to the sub-ways and there is a breakfast outlet near the hotel. Cheers, Anthony Teo.

Very satisfied with this hotel. Very clean. Lift is quiet. Excellent location. Located in high end neighborhood located near Pl. Pablo Picasso. At least 30 resturants/cafes within 300 meters. Most excellent. Three different metro routes serve this neighborhood and it is also walking distance to train serving CDG airport(Port Royal stop). All members of our group would stay again at Hotel Chaplain Riva Gauche. One word of caution: Light sleepers should not stay in rooms facing the street as there is an Austrailian bar 50 meters down the street that generates noise at closing time (1:30AM) as drunks stagger out and wonder what to do next. Insist on inside rooms and this won't be a problem.

Great location. But it is 1 1/2 star hotel so do not expect too much from the hotel. Besides that, you can not beat the price and location they offered. Before you book this hotel, set your expectation at the correct level, you should have a good time there.

We (2 adults & one child) enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The Area was brilliant and the staff were very pleasant, the room was clean and perfectly adequate. The only down-side to our stay was that on the saturday night, after arriveing back from a trip to the Eiffel tower - we were chatting in our room (about 12am) and recieved a call from reception asking us to keep the noise down! We quitened to a very low whisper and even still got another call to ask us to keep the noise down. I found this a bit annoying.

Good sized family room for 2 adults and 2 teenagers on the ground floor. Wardrobe space was under the staircase and though basic it provided sufficient storage for the 4 of us. Some noise last thing at night and at breakfast time from people using the staircase but other than that it was a quiet room. Good sized bathroom and benefited from a shower with screen as well as the bath. Quiet courtyard area to sit in outside the room, reception sells competitively priced alcoholic/non alcohlic cans of drinks. Hotel is on a quiet street, just a short walk from lots of restaurants, bars and boulangerie.Good access to Metro. The hotel met our expectations and we would be happy to stay again.

Very nice little hotel, with breakfast, you pay for but you had it right at the hotel. No email service, but phone worked fine. Hotel staff were very helpful. I will recommend that hotel for any one who wishes to be near restaurants, and cinemas, very lively area.

Here is splendid!! The staff are quite friendly esp one guy; his English is pretty good and he is very friendly. Place is quiet clean and correct as show on the internet. Moreover I think they are fairly flexible since they let 9 of us stay in 2 quadable rooms.(extra pay for sure but you know some dont even allow) Price is relatively high I reckon but it's ok for our great jouney in Paris.

I stayed in the hotel four nights with my elderly aunt, we were both really satisfied. The hotel was excellently situated near Jardin de Luxemburg, easy to reach with RER from the airport of Charles DeGaulle, really quiet and comfortable. We recommend Chaplain rive Gauche to all visitors who love Paris, especially the latin quarters!

We stayed at the Chaplain Rive Gauche for 2 nights and thought it was in a great location (2 blocks from the Luxemburg gardens) to explore the 6th. With one of Paris' small independent cinemas and a great chinese restaurant on the same street, you don't have to travel far for entertainment. The room was clean and well thought out, the staff perfectly friendly and helpful- a great hotel at a great price - we will definitely return!

We reserved for 4, and we arrived with 5 people, and they were very accommodating. The room was small for the 5 of us, but it was comfortable. Personnel were helpful, and didn't seem to mind being awakened at 2:00 a.m. to let us in when we were out late. The price was higher than on the web site because of "high season." We were well situated in relation to the major sights, and to the metro.

This is a great little hotel located near the Vavin metro stop, restaurants, laundromat, and many other shops. With children, the close proximity to Lumemburg Garden was a big plus. We were able to park (store) our car less than a mile away at a public garage for 20 euro/night. The hotel seemed more "worn" than the web photos showed, but the room was clean. A reasonably priced tourist hotel with friendly and helpful staff.

The room was real too small for 4 people. 2 teen and 2 adults. There was no place to set bags. The room was not practivular clean, but not bad enough to bother a geologist. We moved out to a nearby hotel the next morning. The staff did not know how to get to Odeon which turned out be to a direct METRO line. The desk closed at 1 AM which does not help if one wants to see Paris at night. The owner, however, was helpful when we moved out the next day.
