This is a fairly small Parisian hotel in which we have stayed several times before; even having the same room. It represents fairly good value for money and is very handy for Gare Nord and a couple of metro stops. A minor niggle was the broken toilet seat, which remained broken throughout our stay. Will certainly consider staying again.

This was our second stay at Hotel Cambrai. We stayed here primarily because of the hotel's proximity to Gare du Nord. Our first stay was fine, but this time round we didn't have as good an experience. Our room was incredibly hot. It overlooked a major boulevard which meant when the windows were open, it was so noisy we couldn't sleep. There was a problem with the hot water tap in the bathroom, as well as a problem with the light bulb in the room. In spite of the above, I would return to the hotel if I need to be at Gare du Nord early in the morning, but would request a room not facing the boulevard. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

My friend and I went for a week away, and this was perfect. not too pricey and yet in a very convenient location for the metro. the rooms were a little smaller than expected, but nice and the maid came every day to make the beds and clean. the staff at reception were always friendly. the security was good, as when we were arriving home late the doors were locked but there was obviously still staff on hand to let you in. it was near lots of restaurants, but there were also a lot of beggars on the main street. it was on a main road, and the room we stayed in looked out on to it however it was not even that noisy, we did not have any problems with the noise of other customers but you could hear them when the walked past in the hall. The room was a little dark, and a bit shabby but i think it is definitely worth what you pay. the people we met said it was not in a nice part of Paris but we didn't have any problems. i would stay there again.

I have stayed at this hotel several times before, it is my usual hotel when visiting Paris. I find the location very convenient as it is just a few steps from the Gare du Nord where I arrive and it is easy to go everywhere else on the metro. I think the furniture in the rooms is rather ugly, but I don't go to look at that and the rooms are very clean. I think it is good value for Paris. The rooms at the front face onto a busy street so they can be a bit noisy if you have the window open, this time I was at the back which was quiet. The breakfast costs extra and I do not take that.

I had stayed at the Cambrai last year and found it very satisfactory and convenient. It is close to the station, many varied eating places and the open top bus stop. I booked online and got the room for a very good price. It is not in the best area of Paris but we had no problems walking late at night.

I've got the first bad feeling looking at the one star sign. Room is very old, goods are in nearly poor conditions. Bad had cigarette smell. Shower was dirty with signs of washing of previous visitors. Only one lamp was working. In general rate of quality to price is not good. The only pos thing about this hotel is that it's very close to train stating. If you have a lot of suitcases you won't need to walk much. consider this hotel only if you have limited budget and need a room for 1-2 nights.

We have stayed in Hotel Cambrai for the second time. The location is great, only 5-minute walk from Gare du Nord, on the main street Magenta Road, cafes and restaurants can be easily found nearby, a convenient shop is just 2 minutes away. Price is very reasonable for a budget stay if you are on a budget trip in the expensive city of Paris.

I was really satisfied with the conditions of the Hotel Cambrai. As this was my second visit to the hotel, I came across with kind people considering the staff and also the visitors. The Hotel is located in a very centeric place, in the means of metro,RER and bus. The location of the hotel in Gard Du Nord is very easy to go everywhere in Paris in a a couple of 10 min. The only bothering thing was the quietness because the romms are so close to each other.

This is definitely a budget hotel. It is clean, located right next to Gare de Nord train/metro station, which is convenient, but not the nicest part of town, though I wouldn't say dangerous. Good for those on a budget, as affordable hotels in Paris are hard to come by. a little noisy if facing the street. free wifi is a bonus. A little older/dingier (but not dirty) than the pictures.

The hotel was extremely dirty!!! Not only the public areas but the rooms as well. The cleaning lady didn't bother to clean the floor and we even found bags and papers on the floor from the previous people that stayed in our room. We even found toothpaste in the sink, while the toilet was dirty. On the second room the light wasn't working and we had to ask twice to come and fix it. The breakfast was poor (and it costs 6 euros). The only good thing was its location (near Gare du Nord) but still not a very nice district.

Stayed there for 3 nights. Our first impression of the hotel was, 'cute' room. Less than 10 mins walk from the Gare du Nord, we found it strategically-positioned. This is probably their biggest sell. Although we probably wouldn't recommend the location for a female travelling alone. For a 1-star hotel, we think it's too expensive (we paid 65 Euro a night). Good: Location. Room was adequate, clean, served its purpose. Free wi-fi. Heater & hot water. Some people have commented about noise. We found where our room was located saved us from street noise, but 'hallway-noise' is a different matter. Bad: Price. Room is tiny & a tad old. Very basic - suitable if you only need a place to sleep & not expect much.

Stayed 3 nights in the 2nd week of October. The most positive aspect of this place is its great location. Otherwise we had a comfortable stay with a room on the 6th floor. We had to extend our stay by a day because of unrest and the staff was quite helpful - they even booked a taxi to make sure we catch the morning flight. The locality may not be posh but its not seedy either, and seemed quite safe even late at night. There are plenty of eateries around for budget travellers like us. Gare du Nord station is just a few minutes walk away so getting around in Paris is not a problem.

Cambrai is a great place for what you are paying, period. This is your typical 'next door to a station budget hotel'. And it delivers exactly that. If you want closer, then be willing to pay a bit more (10-20/day). I routinely go to Paris and I just need something to stay the night and close to a station (Gare du Nord is a very convenient one). For all the ones who complain about the small room, noisy, etc: this is Paris, if you want something equivalent to a Holiday Inn stateside then be ready to pay 200 euros at least. If you complain about staff not speaking English: learn some basic French and as before, if you want concierge attention then head to the hotels by Champs Elisees and be ready to drop 500-600 euros a night.

I thought it was a bit dirty, in the surroundings walked all sorts of addicts and thieves, seemed rather the kind of establishment that rents rooms by the hour. The rooms are very small, as expected, and every noise on the hallway can wake you up in the middle of the night.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel, it is basic but clean and we did just use it as a place to sleep. We thought that it was good value for the location, even though small it is typical of what you will find in Paris. We have paid more in the past for a similar place to stay in Paris. There are plenty of cafe bars to eat in very close by and Gare du Nord is just 3 minutes walk away and from there you can get anywhere. We were in Paris for 5 days and bought a 5 day, 6 zone PARIS VISITE pass for €50 each, sounds expensive but it was brilliant value for money and you can have unlimited travel on bus, metro and RER networks

This hotel served it's purpose. An inexpensive stay in Paris. Close to train station so it was easy to catch metro but I would not venture out at night. Nice hotel, bit noisy, other guest that slam doors or talk loudly kan be a bit annoying. Also sound from water in the bathroom when a shower is taken in above rooms. No sound from the street though (room was not located near the street). Breakfast ok, not too much but sufficiant (not included, 6€ per person). Location hotel is very good, next to the north station, so one doesn't have to cary his luggage very far, and only ten minutes walk from Montmartre, you can visit it without having to use the subway at night. We stayed for two nights, and the hotel served well for this duration.

The hotel did exactly what we wanted. It wasn't fancy, large or upmarket, but it was clean, friendly and well located. The staff didn't impose unwanted attention on us, just let us get on with our Paris stay. Extra marks go to the guy at check-in that spotted from my passport that it was my birthday the following day - he passed on his best wishes despite not being able to speak any English. A stone's throw from the Gare du Nord and walking distance from all the main sights, assuming you like walking. The surrounding area is bustling but not at all dodgy, despite having that 'a bit too close to the station' feel to it. Our main concern was street noise due to being located on a busy street, but the surprisingly effective double-glazing worked well. Highly recommended, particularly for budget travellers who are happy with no frills accommodation. I would go there again without hesitation.

This hotel was simply AMAZING for the price. I wouldn't expect service like what my girlfriend and I received from a 4 star hotel, let alone a 1 star. The owner/receptionist was extremely friendly and funny, spoke both English and French, and had no problem speaking either depending on what you wanted. He went out of his way to make sure everything was taken care of during our stay and that we were as comfy as possible. It was impossible to stop by the front desk without seeing a huge smile and during our stay I couldn't be happier. Simply stated, Hotel Cambrai MADE PARIS WHAT IT WAS... the highlight of my trip. The hotel is situated very close to the gare du nord with easy access to the city centre. the rooms are basic but you only get what you pay for. the prices are reasonable, however to class a room with a piece of the floor missing from under the table and a view of a horrible courtyard/alley as superiour is a little ambitious. we did try to move and the staff were quite helpful in this matter, but we decided to stick with the bath instead rather than the view. a couple of bulbs where missing from lamps, there was no shower curtain and there was evidence of a little water damage on the windows above the bath/shower. the room was, despite the little niggles, reasonably clean and well presented. it could have done with a lick of paint though. for all the time we spent in the room, we didn't really mind. staff were sufficiently helpful according to the rating of the hotel and no more, although when you needed a bottle opener for you wine they were more than willing to assist! if you are a young couple on holiday to get out and about see the sights and just looking for a cheap hotel with easy access to cafes restuarants and transport then the hotel is ideally situated the train station is no more than 2 metro stops from the sights and 2 from paris cdg airport on the RER. it wouldnt be somewhere to bring the kids and although there is a lift, facilaties for the eldery or disabled are limited, the tight spiral staircase would definately cause problems there.

For a hotel in Paris, this place was a deal. It was only a three minute walk to the Gare du Nord and to the blue line in the other direction. Most of the staff spoke enough English to make transactions simple. The room was clean and big enough for our needs, which were sleeping and showering. We got clean towels every day, and the bed was made daily. We requested a room with a private bathroom, so make sure you do that if that's what you are looking for. A very handy hotel for Gare de Nord. The rooms are a fair size for Paris and my bathroom was very spacious with a large tub. The one draw back are the thin walls between rooms. You can hear the person next door whisper so if you have noisy people, like I did the first night it is hard to sleep. I did not take the breakfast as so many good places around the hotel. Our first trip overseas and a visit to Paris was included. The room was adequate with an 'ensuite' - cramped toilet was an add-on from the bedroom!! Once the window/door was closed all noise was blocked out which was a good point. The place lacked good front staff who could understand English, or were willing to advise on things to do. Was handy to cafes and bars. No tea/coffee facilities in rooms. For a place handy to Gare North and within walking distance to good shops, this place would be okay to stay in.

I think that breakfast must be included in the price. I prefer to pay a little more and not to pay it apart. May be i'm not familiar with the relaionship between price and hotel in europe, but i was in an hotel room in bacerlona and madrid for 10 euros plus i get a much better room, in a place much better located (in the middle of everything), maybe Cambrai could invest a little bit more to make a better stay. If you ask me, would you stay in this hotel again?, my answer will be, "Maybe, maybe not"

The Cambrai was charming and much nicer than similar priced hotels in this part of Paris. The room was smallish and the decor a little tired, but it was clean and comfortable. Best suited to couples.

we were in Cambrai Hotel for 4 nights, have booked standard double rooms. the receptionist was very friendly and speaks english very well. the toilet in our room was opposite the bed, the folding door was broken alraedy. thats why we have used the toilet outside our room on the floor. this toilet room is bigger. the rooms are not quiet, you can hear every noise outside your room, but if you really tired it is not important anymore. the noises are from neighbour rooms and the elevator. anyway, the Cambrai is a few minutes from Gare du Nord station, the price/quality is okay for Paris, next time I will go there again.

The hotel is located near to Gare du Nord. But as is situated in a very busy boulevard it is not quiet. So you can't open the window for the night. But it is a place start your visit to Paris for a nice price. So, if you don't want to pay a lot of money for sleeping you are at the right place.

It's very close to the train station and there is no parking available at all, not even to check in, most of their customers are coming with the train and the train station is in walking distance. But once we got there they helped us get a parking space in a garage where we got a discount rate as hotel customer.

The room was fine, very clean and bedding all good. It was not necessarily representative of the standard as shown on the website but nonetheless I do think it was value for money. Breakfast was an extra 6 euros but this was good and value for money.

Arrived very early in the morning but were allowed access to the room at no extra cost, which was very kind. Rooms facing Rue Magenta will be louder than others. Overall pretty good experience.

We chose this hotel because we wanted something close to transport, and not too expensive. Hotel Cambrai met these requirements absolutely. It was easy to find, close to main train stations as well as buses. It had it's eccentricities, as one would expect, but it was exactly what we needed.

We stayed here in order to be in town to catch the early morning train to the airport. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Gare du Nord, which made it perfect for that purpose. The room was not very big, but had the bare essentials. The shower was clogged which made showering a bit of a task, but doable. All in all, it was what we paid for seeing as it was very cheap. Our room faced the main Blvd Magenta and the hotel is in front of a bus stop, which meant we heard the bus stopping all night long. If using it for the proximity of the Gare to catch your early morning train and avoid any hassles the morning of your travel, this is ideal.

The room are not that spacious and the bathroom is rather small. However the price was not to bad and the hotel is located right next to Gare Du Nord. Very handy.

Room was veeeery dirty, i had to use my own towel as the one provided by hotel was already used. There are no walls i assume so i heard everything, it was hard to sleep. The only positive thing was the view from the window. Ah yes, wifi was almost dead.

Ideal location for visitors and those who need to transit Paris, just a walking distance from main railroad station -- Gare de Nord (great especially when traveling with a lot of luggage, just like us :D ). Easy access to Metro/Subway and Buses. 25 mins away (by walking) from Sacre Coeur and its superb panorama over the city. Plenty of mini-markets and cafe's around. Extra careful staff & very clean rooms. You could even get a delicious continental breakfast for only 6 €/person. Great value for the money - I would probably check in again here, for the travel convenience and excelent rates.

good location near the gare du nord, good price/quality relationship. Unfortunately, the bed was very short, not really suited for tall people. But all in all good for a short stay in Paris.

The walls of the rooms are very very thin - so much so that you can actually hear the conversations of people in neighbouring rooms. Although this isn't a major issue during the day, it is very disruptive at night. Even my girlfriend, who is a heavy sleeper, was regularly woken in the middle of the night by people coming to their rooms late and watching their televisions. The area of Paris this hotel is situated is not safe. The convenience of being located a few hundred metres away from Gare du Nord is greatly outweighed by how rough the neighbourhood is. Tramps line the street at night to sleep, meaning you have to pass them all on the way from the station to the hotel. There are several adult shops and bars nearby, attracting the sort of people that most people would want to avoid. We didn't ever feel safe at night here. I know some people had difficulties with hot water but ours was fine. However, there was so much hair (not ours!) in the shower plug that the water takes a long time to drain, meaning that you have to take a shower in two parts in order to stop the water overflowing out of the shower cubicle. I wish I'd listened to the other negative reviews of this hotel as they were all correct. Pay a little bit more and stay in a safer part of the city.

we stayed 2 nights seperately for the Thalys. The 1st night (superior double EUR65) was fine, good large bathroom with clean and new facilies whereas the room rather not enough ligtening, a bit dark. But overall it is ok. The 2nd night we booked superior TWIN room (EUR75). Unfortunately, the staff made a mistake and provided a triple room at G/f for us, with one queen size double bed and one supplementary bed. Finally, we just slept on the double bed as that single bed look scary. And it is not a bath but just a semi-working shower without seperate area so after taking shower, the whole toilet got wet. That's not preferable. And the wooden furnitures are so old that look like nobody using for 30yrs. So scary that we must turn on the TV and all lighting to sleep. Since they can't provide the correct room to us, the staff is smart and professional enough to provide us free breakfast and claimed will refund the price difference to us (but as claimed by the staff the room price are the same), hence wondering whether they will at least refund EUR10 to us. A little bit doublt for that. The fotos shown on the web are much better than the real one for the bed. Only suggested travllers stayed 1 night for TGV, Thalys. Just opposite to Gare du Nord. And must not choose the triple room. Superior double is with reasonable price and quality.

The room was really in disrepair. It was an end room facing the rear, overlooking a messy courtyard. It was supposed to be a triple for three women. It ended being two double beds. It had two rooms which made it spacious, but the rear room had no hardware (doorknob) on the door. There was only one outlet in the entire room. The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows were lumpy and hard. The only thing that is provided is a bar of soap and very small bath towels and hand towels. No tissue, shampoo or lotion is provided. We stayed at the hotel previously in December in two twin rooms which faced the street and were nicer. The only reason we stayed was because of the price and it's location close to Gard du Nord. Luckily all we did was sleep there. We paid extra to have breakfast there one day in December, but decided to spend the money on all other mornings on nearby cafes. Paris is very pricey. It seemed that we paid a lot for what we got.

Overall I did not expect too much because it's a hotel with 1 star but it totally matched with my ideas. We are young couple, price was good, service also nice (I suggest tipping the guy at the reception by the arrival) and we had exciting 5 days, location is excellent, close to metro station. Overall very positive!

We stayed there for 2 nights. The room we got was very nice with new furniture. Everything was clean and overcame our expectations. Also the breakfast was not only a "crossiant" but also some "petit pains". This hotel is good for everyone who wants to be close to the "gare du nord" (only 4 minutes to walk) and does not expect a luxury hotel but a clean and nice place to sleep after a long day
