Although I travel to Europe 1 or 2 times per year I am always amazed at how tiny a room or a shower can be.....but it is what it is compared to American hotel rooms. Breakfast was great and worth the price, everything was very clean and staff very friendly. Great location.

Good hotel, rooms are quite clean and spacious. Bathroom is big and very clean. The room is quiet considering the hotel is located close to a big road. Elevator is a little bit small, but no problems at all. Very nice receptionists who permitted to store luggage in locker room once checked out. Great location if you are searching for typical Paris landscapes and restaurants. Very close to Notre-Dame. Would recommend to all.

The hotel rooms are small but very clean which is a big pro for me. The neighbourhood is great: in the Latin quarter next to delicious restaurants and wine bars. We had some issues about the room and the heat but I have to say that Sophie at the reception managed it quite well and we were happy in the end. Again it depends of what you do expect from a hotel, for us more than space we look for cleanness, position and a helpful kind staff, which is exactly what we got from the Hotel California Saint Germaine. Thus if you are looking for the same things, I would strongly recommend you to book a room!

The room was small, but comfortable, with a nice new TV on the wall. I'd only complain about minimal storage space, we had to live out of suitcases, and that the wireless, though free, was quite unreliable

room was more a single than a double, very small, very small was also the bathroom with no ventilation. THe room has no refrigerator too, which we expected. Reception people were a bit nasty. HAving said that, the local was superb, the area is beautiful and lively and we could see Sorbonne from our balcony. Few metro stops are only few metres away and it's plenty of brasserie in the area. Excellent as a starting point for exploring the city. For these reasons we would come back.

the room was very basic for the high price. There was no full-length mirror, no drawers, only open shelves. Walls were very thin; when someone inserted key in the hall it sounded as though they were entering your room. It was very clean, a good room safe, good tv, but no comfortable chair. Definitely not worth 150 E. I noticed the price through Venere was the same posted on the wall, no discount.

Pretty good location and staff very helpful. The rooms are really small though and i had a triple for my kids which was really small. They have a computer in the lobby with free internet which we can use. Management can do well to replace the key board since some keys missing and some keys does not match the letter. It will upgrade the image of the hotel for sure as it shows you care for your guest to use the computer even if it is for free.

The location is perfect but the pitcures I sow on the WEB site were very far from reality. The rooms were showed as large modern, but I found low level equipemt and very small room, furthermore I asked for a double room and I get a room with two separate bed...

Very well located, as we arrived in a very hot day, the must was the AC, and it worked properly during all our stay! Also Internet was available at no cost, and they offer a quite cheap shuttle service to De Gaulle. As the rooms are very small I would recommend it to young couples, special for tourists as it is in the heart of the Quartier Latin

Excellent location. If you want great choices in restaurants in the latin quarter, this place is excellent. Easy walking distance to Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Pantheon, Jardin du Luxemborg and much more. Close to metro and the RER. Plus, this has to be one of the only hotels in Europe to offer FREE wireless internet access. I hate to admit how much I paid in Denmark and Germany just to check my email.

location perfect.hotel clean and satisfactory but price slightly up on what we got probably due to good location.According to web page got the impression that gym was on the premises when it was in fact at sister hotel, few buildings away. Otherwise a good very pleasant stay.

Our main concern was with venere.com as we modified our reservation (I called Italy and spoke with a gentleman who indicated that he would take care of the reservation change for us). Unfortunately when we arrived at the hotel on the new date, they had been expecting us two nights before and were ready to charge us for those nights. It appears that venere.com did not inform the hotel of the change. This made it very awkward for us and did not start our stay off on a 'good' note. They did accommodate us and all worked out in the end, but it was very upsetting until it was straightened out. Our only concern with the hotel itself (excellent location, satisfactory room, etc)was the 'lift' which seemed a little unreliable.

We stayed in a superior room at the back of the hotel, just off a small courtyard. The room was first class. The location is great. Metro just round the corner, short walk to restaurants and the buzzing latin quarter. Short walk to the river. All in all, I would definately stay here again.

Very good price for money. Position is great: in an elegant quarter, at only 5 min walk to the RER station (that takes you directly to Charles DeGaulle airport!) and the metro station Saint Michel-Notredame; 10 min walk to Notredame and to dozens of restaurants. Room (with bathroom) was at the 7th floor, spacious enough, quite and with a beautiful sight over the city. Breakfast is very expensive (12 Euros), it's better to have it in one of the nice cafès nearby. The elevator is very small and only carries one person (and luggage) per time. We stayed there 2 night and sheets were not changed! Finally I think it's a very good choice for a short stay in Paris as budget turists.

We were in Paris on our anniversary at christmas. This hotel was situated in a great location. It was near everything. 10minute walk from the latin quarter. Very good price when booked online. The only bad thing about it was the TV was broken in the room but we didnt need it much since there is so much to do in Paris. The staff were helpful when we asked for anything. WE LOVE PARIS!!!!

L'ascensore è "antico", rumoroso e scomodo (capienza minima). Il personale professionale e disonibile. In complesso ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo.

Lucio. Nov-2006.

I paid 65 Euros for a single room in Nov 2005. It was a fantastic value. I would stay there again. The employees were very competent and reserved in their demeanor, which is different from the welcome usually encountered in the US, but they were very accommodating for special requests, such as borrowing glassware for drinking wine in the room....so don't be put off if they seem quiet. The walls were thin and I heard noise in the hallway but it was only one or two nights.

I suggest to invest in bathroon curtains, this will avoid inundate the bathroom floor after you take a shower. Put some extra furniture in the room to locate bags. Location, the best thing that this hotel has.

The room was very small and the bath room tiny. The overall impression was very tired. Staff were ok. We left our key in the door on the inside and closed it by mistake this caused all sorts of problems as they could not get in. My husband had to climb out another window and get in. The house maid then nick named him superman! Would not stay there again from choice.

We stayed in ths hotel for 6nights at a cost of €489. The lift in the hotel is tiny, can only take 2 people, its like a small coffin. You can hear the lift going up and down from inside of the bedrooms. The room size isnt too bad for paris, we had a double wardrobe and a small balcony to stand out on. The rooms are always clean adn we got fresh towels everyday. However, the reception staff are rude and unhelful. One night we returned to the reception desk to find it empty and the man running the desk was accross the road in a different hotel. Anybody could have come in and taken any room key and entered any room! This happened on 3 of the 6 nights we stayed there. Its location is 15mins from notre dame so is perfect for getting to see the best of Paris.

The hotel appeared to be clean. Bathroom, sheets, etc. were clean. The room was very tiny, only 1 of us could stand at a time. The shower was very tiny. The elevator can only hold 2 people at a time, very slow. The room we were given was nowhere as nice as those pictured on the website. This was definitely not what we were expecting. Checked out the next day and found a very nice, comfortable hotel with cleaner, larger, brighter rooms for not much more w/breakfast included. Would definitely not recommend this hotel.

This place is a dump. Bags of dirty laundry are ALWAYS in the hallway. You have to step over them to navigate the narrow hallway. Rooms are incredibly small and the carpets are filty and stink of smoke. Understand its in Paris, but its a dump. However, the location is great as its by Notre dame and the METRO is 2 blocks away. Also, there were loud and strange noises all night long from the plumbing. Never had a good night's sleep there. We stayed in Paris, Luzerne, Venie and Rome and this place was the absolute worst of our entire trip. I would look elsewhere. By the way, if you use the phone to attempt to make a calling card call and it doesnpt work, you still pay 12 Euros!!!

The hotel was easy to find, and location very central to main attractions. Lovley are of Paris. Room very small and bathroom even smaller! Shower tiny and could hardly turn around without switching the taps off! Room was clean, though. Lift not working so we had to carry our bags up to the 3rd floor, in summer! Hotel Receptionist VERY friendly and helpful, and assisted with Moulin Rouge tour as well as directions to various sites. If not for the dissappointing room size, we would stay there again.

- The program of the cable TV was limited to few chanels, and just news in english; - Minibar was not available in the room. This was the worst point observed; - Space in the shower was not enough. Taking a shower became a challenge; - The photographs showed in the site gives a diferent idea about the room. It is disappointing when you get into the room; - Bed, air cond., cleaneness, were OK;

This review is from a young 20-something Australian couple who travelled around Europe in July 2006. We stayed in a wide variety of hotels in various cities across Europe, all for the same average price per-room per-night (90-95EUR). In comparison, this hotel was excellent. The rooms, although a little small, were clean and quiet. The hotel staff were friendly and extremely helpful, and the free internet in the lobby was also a bonus. The hotel was well situated in the Latin Quarter, only minutes from the Metro and RER. Everything was easily accessible from this location. I would stay here again.

A CONFIRMED ROOM RESERVATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE A ROOM HERE. The hotel intentionally overbooks to secure full occupancy. Travelers may be sent to affiliated, lesser quality, hotels without when the hotel overbooks compensation(example: Hotel Modern). When I arrived, the hotel sent ten or more guests to lesser-quality hotel accomidations.

Lovely little place to stay. We had a balcony room which looked out over the street so you could watch Paris being Paris. Room was not huge but that is what you get for Paris, bathroom was excellent but had to watch out for the shower curtain to ensure no flooding when showering! Small lift but the stairs are also fine. Fresh croissants at the little place across the road are highly recommended for petit dejeuner. Location is simply excellent for access to shops, restaurants, crepes (!) and the metro. And we got it for a good price too. I would definitely stay there again.

Consigliato.

This is a great location within easy walking distance of some great places - Notre Dame, Pantheon etc and good Metro routes. The hotel is very friendly and the rooms are well furnished and very clean. They are very small but I have certainly stayed in smaller ones in Paris, I think its par for the course unless you're prepared to shell out quite a bit more. I reserved at the California but was given a room at the Sully hotel. It happens to be that they are three hotels close by that are from the same owner. My rating is about the Sully, but I think the California has the same level of service. The hotel is very good, clean and the rooms are comfortable. The bathroom, if not new, is in good condiions. The elevator or lift is just the size for one person and its luggage, but works perfectlly which is very good if you are in the higher floors. In general I'll stay at the same hotel in a future opportunity.

Overall the hotel is quite nice and the location great. The room (no. 318) was very small even for us two rather small and slim women. No room for suitcases. The bathroom was nice, but again the shower was tiny! If we stay here again, we will ask for a bigger room. - Regarding the facilities, we needed to send a few messages by E-mail, but could not get the key-board to write f. instance: @ and _ - and no help at the reception desk! - When we were going to the airport, we were running a little late to go by train, and decided to take a taxi. The information by the receptionist in charge was a katastrophe, and we almost missed our flight: He told us, that we could get to The Charles de Gaulle in 20 minutes and it would cost 40 €. It took 1 hour and 35 minutes as the traffic was bad; and the price was 68 €. The taxi-driver said that normally with no bad traffic the drive would take at least 40 minutes.

The hotel is in an excellent location. There are 3 subway stops within a 4-minute walk and one, St. Michel, has the RER line that takes you to Charles de Gaulle and to Versailles. Don't bother with the continental breakfast -- choose a different brasserie to go to every morning to experience the city. I had a single room facing Rue des ecoles. It was tiny but also sufficient for one person. The bathroom was really small and the stand-up shower leaked on the floor, but towels mopped it up and the cleaning staff was very efficient. Watch out for a slimy night watchman who may try to pick up single ladies -- gross and awkwardly persistent. Besides him, the hotel is great, the price through venere was fabulous and the location is superb (a 5-minute walk to Notre Dame! the Panthenon around a corner!).

Excellent value for the price. Small (typical European size) but very nice room with nicely remodeled bath. Our room was in the back of the hotel and very quiet. Fantastic location in the middle of the Latin Quarter, close to good restaurants, and 10 minutes walk to Notre Dame. Also very convenient location if you take the RER-B train from Charles de Gaule Airport, get off at St. Michael stop and it's a short 5 minute walk. Only one block from a metro stop (not St. Michael). Staff speaks excellent English, and helped us make a dinner reservation. We would return and will recommend to friends who have stayed in overpriced dirty hotels.

Found hotel quite easily. Arrived quite late and found reception rather gloomy. Disapointed to find that we had a twin room instead of double ordered but have found this to be quite common in Europe. The bedroom was very small but adequate and the bathroom was fine although no proper shower or a plug for the bath. I believe ( WITHOUT ANY EVIDENCE ) that people who book through budget hotel websites are often fobbed off with inferior accomodation. However, first impressions can be misleading and overall the hotel was ideal for our requirements, ie, somewhere to rest our weary bones after hard days sight seeing. The room was very clean and was kept that way during our stay. Our un-romantic single beds were clean and very comfortable with extra pillows which we like. The continental breakfast in the very nice basement restaurant was good value compared to what could be bought outside. ( it was not included in the room rate which we didn't realise ). The location of the hotel is excellent for the city centre if you like walking and the metro is close if you don't. The great Latin Quarter restaurants are only a stones throw away. Overall verdict, if you are in Paris to site see on a medium budget I would recomend this hotel.

My daughter and I had a wonderful stay at this charming hotel, although we did ask to change rooms after the first night as we found the room claustrophic. We also found that the electric plugs did not work and we could not budge the bath plug and so could not empty the bath. We asked for a room facing the street and swopped rooms without any problems. The staff were very helpful and were happy to speak English. The highlight though was the location which was fantastic with the Seine in easy walking distance and many restaurants to choose from. The metro was literally around the corner and we got around Paris quickly. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

I would give this hotel higher marks but the weekend hotel clerk was unfriendly at the times when he wasn't being outright rude. Then, on Monday, a lovely young woman took over the front desk duties and my stay at this hotel improved considerably. I think the 12 Euro price for the breakfast buffet, which was not included in my room rate, was extremely overpriced, given the buffet selection. Of all the hotels I stayed in on my six city five country tour, the bed at the California St. Germain was the most comfortable.

Fantastic hotel. I would recommend it to anyone. sheets were white and clean, bathrooms were spotless, and just an all around great place to stay. I'm very phobic of gross hotels too and this one went way above and beyond what i thought i would get for the price we were paying....

While Paris is expensive, we found Hotel California to be reasonable and close to everything we wanted to see. The room was clean and well kept. We chose not to have breakfast and instead stop by a pastry shop just down the street. I would definitely stay there again on a visit to Paris.

The shower was really, really small making bathing an ordeal. We needed a taxi to get to the train station. They were unable to get it, sent us to a taxi stand and no taxis were there. Lots of anxiety over getting to station. On the bright side I forgot my shoes and they had them there when I return to Paris 6 days later. The staff was kind of unconcerned; not rude, just ambivalent.

I think I must have been given the worst room in the hotel. There was mold in the bathroom and in the room. The ceiling was coming away from the wall and had a 2" gap in some places. There was a small desk, but no chair as in other rooms. The closet didn't even have shelves on which to place your clothes, let alone a drawer or two. This hotel seems to be rated wrong at the 3 star level; I have stayed in nicer 2 star places. That being said, the reseption desk people were very nice and the location is great.

Very small room -- the smallest I have ever had to share with another person! However, the place was very clean and in a great location. Would highly recommend the place and would stay there again.

For my first visit to Europe, the room was acceptable for the price since I as informed that they can be very small. But the carpet was disgusting and there were ants, which made us feel uncomfortable. The pictures online seem deceiving in size and I guess I didn't get the nice rooms shown since I paid below the minimum rate. In the end it served it's purpose...a place to sleep.

I wouldn't stay here again. Staff is friendly and location is great for going out to bars and restaurants and walking all around Paris. However, our room smelled like an ashtray which was really gross. Breakfast is not included, and they charge you a lot more than it is worth, even though it tasted pretty good. Rooms are VERY SMALL, even for Europe hotel rooms.

Camera molto piccola (rispetto alla foto vista su Venere), parcheggio caro (26 € al giorno). Ok il resto, sopratutto la posizione eccezionale.

The rooms were very small, however this may be typical for this area of Paris. Convenient location, very close to metro, Latin Quarter, Notre Dame and other desirable sites to see. They had a breakfast in the basement that we were not aware of.

Our room was very tiny. In our opinion it's a two-star hotel instead of three-star.

We come from Sweden and in Sweden you can easily get a non smoking room. As far as we are concerned it`s not that easy in Paris, at least not in this hotel. We had to sleep with a window open. The rooms are extremely small compare with the rooms you get in Sweden under the same circumstances. There must be a better room than this for the same price. But I must say that the room was clean and okej and we didn´t spend so much time at the hotel anyway.

Great location, Room tiny but very clean. Bathroom was new and excellent. Sheets pressed and comforting. Only problem was that the television didn't work (important to my daughter) and the staff was not willing to repair it.

Fantastic location, close to a vibrant area with lots of bars and restaurants. Nearby metro made it easy to get around the city and to the airport.5 minutes walk to the Seine and Notre Dame. Room was fine, clean and well maintained. Really good value for money, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. This was the second hotel booked through venere and both have been so good we have already booked another hotel in Rome.

Soundproofing not very good, so quietness depends on who happens to be staying there. In every other respect (especially location) it was excellent.

Everything was great at this hotel. Staff is real pleasant and helpful. Rooms are really clean and the cleaningn staff does a magnificant job. The only disappointment is that there really is no "outside" breakfast area as indicated on the web site; the also is no indoor gym as stated on the site. I would recommend if you're travellin to Paris on a budget, but want to be in an area that is very accesible to all major restaurants, taxi stands and metro areas...
