We stayed in Paris 3 days. All parties from cab drivers to hotel personnel were helpful, cordial, and very nice. Advice to travelers, stay at the Hotel California. It is reasonably close to everything and not pricy. You will get more than your money's worth.

Hotel California was more than I expected.My room was huge.Very nice, large bathroom with heater,lots of toiletries,and thick,plush towels.The room had a foyer with a small closet, two large closets,two telephones,a mini bar,and plenty of space.The breakfast buffet was 25 euros,but well worth it.They served French breads,cheeses,eggs,bacon,sausages,fruit/salad bar,fresh juice,coffee and tea (all you can eat).The hallways are filled with beautiful art.The staff was efficient,helpful,friendly and spoke fluent English.My only complaint is my room was not cleaned as late as 14:00 one day.I called the desk and they sent the maid to clean my room almost immediately.The location is convenient to the Champs Elysees,the American Embassy,Arch de Triumph,rue Faubourg de St Honore,the Impala restaurant,cafe George V,and many fine restaurants and shops.I'm returning to Paris in December 2006.I will spend two nights at Hotel George V and three nights at Hotel California.

This 4-star hotel was a 'treat' for New Year's Eve, having stayed in a more modest 2-star hotel for the previous 3 nights. The hotel was very comfortable and the service was impeccable. But this could have been any hotel in any city - it lost something in its 'international' feel. The description says that every room is soundproofed, but I could clearly hear the TV from the room next door, so I'm not sure that this is true. Also, the price of the breakfast was not made clear anywhere (in the restaurant, or the room service menu) - so much so that we assumed that it was included in the room price. It was actually 25 euros per person (with no reduction for a child) which I think was incredibly expensive, despite the good quality and choice.

The first room we had was nothing like the picture or what was described. Or neither was it up 4 Star. It was very small and made us feel claustrophobic. There was a double bed. We had requested a kingsize and would like to have been told in advance that one wasn't available. The bathrooms also need updating. We complained and were moved the next day. But why wasn't the room up to the 2nd rooms standard in the beginning. 4 star.No. It is a good 3 star. Overall I enjoyed my stay in Paris due to going out everyday, Eiffel Tower, Moulin Rouge,Arc de Triomphe,The Louvre,etc and River Sienne. The staff looked down their noses at us when we arrived as my husband was carrying our luggage over his shoulder. Also on our request we had also asked the price of champagne and chocolates as we would have liked these in the room on arrival. We didn't want a surprise bill of £200 for these. This I don't think they liked. I must say on leaving the young male receptionist was very pleasant. Our time in Paris was very enjoyable but unfortunately I would liked to have stayed at the California again but am sceptical of receiving the wrong room.

From the A1 highway, exit at Porte de la Chapelle, then get on the west ring road (Périphérique Ouest) and exit at Porte Maillot. Keep on Avenue de la Grande Armée until Place de l'Étoile (Arc de Triomphe) and head down Champs Élysées. Turn left into Rue de Berri. The hotel will be at number 16.

By train
From the Gare du Nord (Eurostar/Thalys trains): 30 minutes. Take underground line 4, direction Porte d'Orléans and get off at Châtelet-Les Halles stop. Then take RER A, direction Cergy, Poissy, Saint Germain en Laye, and get of at Charles de Gaulle Etoile.
From the Gare de l'Est: 20 minutes. Take underground line 4, direction Porte d'Orléans and get off at Châtelet-Les Halles stop. Then take RER A, direction Cergy, Poissy, Saint Germain en Laye, and get off at Charles de Gaulle Etoile.
From the Gare de Lyon: 15 minutes. Take RER-A line direction Cergy, Poissy or St. Germain en Laye. Get off at Charles de Gaulle Etoile station.

By airplane
