The hotel does exactly what you would expect from a Paris Hotel in the Latin Quarter - an excellent location for you to base for a few days exploring the heart of Paris. Right next to the metro and walking distance to Notre Dame etc etc......magic!! The price paid for two rooms in this area was fantastic, and we have stayed in a number of Paris hotels and knew what to expect by way of space in the rooms and tiny lifts....but hey, that is all part of the experience and love of Paris!! The staff were biligual (though we did of course always try and use our French whenever possible) and very helpful. Our only slight issue was the fact that the hotel was being refurbished during our stay, which limited the available rooms....we had booked a double (for my wife and I ) and a triple (for our 3 children all under 11). We had hoped for these to be adjoining or next to each other...they were actually on different floors - though only one floor apart. Luckily our kids are pretty well behaved, so it was not really a problem in the end. All in all if you are looking for a budget hotel, close to everything (2 mins to the metro and 10 mins walk to Notre Dame) with cafe's, patisseries & bars etc all on your doorstep and you know you won't be spending much time in the hotel room (why would you, it's Paris) then this hotel is just right. If you want a few extra comforts, like a room fridge, coffee facilities, internet and so on, then perhaps not. However, if you just need bed, bathroom, shower and TV (which was a real surpise as it had multi-country TV options to choose from so you could get CNN, BBC etc - for the kids to chill out whilst going to sleep or for us to check the news & weather in the morning) then this is right on the money!!

The hotel was ok for the price. Very close to the Seine and Notre Dame. The quadruple room was spacious, but the double room was small, but hotel rooms in Paris are small. The bathroom in our room had a leakage from one of the pipes, so the last morning the bathroom floor was wet. The beds were very comfortable. There is some noise from the streets when you have the windows open, so at night it is best to keep them shut. We would probably come back if we need to stay in a hotel that has quadruple rooms.

The Hotel rooms were clean. The lobby is very very small, and if you want breakfast there (which I don't recommend, you eat it in your room. We stayed in the hotel with another couple whose room was not small, it was miniature. It had a one bed big enough for two small people, and a single bed. Since there were just two of them, the single bed occupied space that could have been used to walk around the room, or put the suitcases away for easy access (room 420). My room was much more spacious, very nice (room 421). The rooms were too warm but it is a busy street outside with both human and car traffic and was too noisy to keep the windows open. Also only about half of the staff speak good English (and no Italian) so it was hard to get some information. Overall though, great location, and good price. This is Paris after all!

Great hotel, friendly and helpful staff. Our double room was large by Paris standards. We had a bathtub and free wifi that worked great. The hotel is very close to two metro stops. Ate almost every night at Le Petit Cardinal around the corner, a very good, reasonably priced Parisian restaurant. BIA (Breakfast in America) was a good breakfast place 1/2 bock away. A couple of blocks to the Seine. We'll stay here again.

This best thing about this hotel is the location for the price you pay. Its a short, enjoyable, stroll to St Germain. Also close to the Marais. Its a no frills hotel, just some where to stay although for the price you would expect breakfast, even a continental one. Two metro lines are close by.

The size of the room depends on luck. We had a corner unit which was very small but we saw other rooms as they were being cleaned which looked spacious. We inquired and were told that these rooms were the same price. The washroom in our room had a smell on some days. The minor flaws of the room were made up for by the great location and the very friendly and helpful staff.

Terrific location! It is very easy to walk or use the Metro from here without getting lost. Our room was large by European standards. Everything worked and was very clean. Compared to other Paris hotels, there is good value for the money. Construction across the street was loud. This is not the fault of the hotel! Staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.

English-speaking staff was very helpful. The room was clean and small but entirely adequate. Unfortunately, the room at night was too warm with the window closed and too noisy with the window open. We have stayed at a hotel in the Latin Quarter that we like better, but would probably stay here again if the other were not available. Next time we would ask about rooms that were not right over the street, though.

Staff were friendly and spoke English. There are many good local restaurants in the surroundings. The hotel is well located if you want to go running in the morning along the banks of the Seine. I had a negative experience when paying the bill. The owner tried to force me to pay by debit, although I made it clear I wanted to use the credit card. The lady in the reception only reluctantly accepted the credit card after I made it clear she is obliged to do so.

Room was small as is normal in Paris and bathroom could be a tight fit for anyone heavy. The step up into the shower of about 9-12 inches was difficult for my elderly mother. There was both an overhead and a hand held shower. The control to turn on both was so stiff that you could easily think that only the handheld shower was working. All very clean. Staff spoke very good English and were pleasant, helpful and well informed. Breakfast in your room at €6 same price as in all local cafes. Lots of good places to eat nearby. Outside noise is not a problem with windows shut but you really can hear your neighbours especially at night. Jussieu metro provides a good connection to the Vedettes du Pont Neuf, for the Louvre/Palais Royal or to the Opera stop which is where you can get the Roissy CDG bus. Taxi organised via hotel cheaper than through airline.

Great position within walking distance of lots of attractions. Easy to get to by metro. Lots of good priced restaurants nearby and crepe and Panini bar opposite for late night or early morning snacks. Brand new bathroom. Small rooms but no worse than other Paris hotel rooms for a similar price. Despite being on a busy road road noises were minimal some noise from surrounding rooms. When we were there it was bitterly cold but the heating in the hotel was excellent.

Great location, very welcoming staff. They upgraded our triple room to a quadruple room as they realised that we were 3 guys as the triple only had 2 beds, without extra charge. Don't bother with the breakfast as there are plenty of nice cafes around the hotel. The only negative was the dirty and uncomfortable pillow, but other than that very good value for money.

This hotel was located in a good area of Paris--close to restaurants and easy to get around. However, I would not stay there again because it was so noisy both from outside traffic and the walls were so thin that we could hear someone snoring in the next room. The staff were nice and helpful, especially one woman.

Hotel is in need of a makeover, but the central location makes up for that (in 5th arrondisement). Double room was small and very warm. Breakfast served in room, consisted of french bread stick and croissant and pot of coffee/milk, was fresh and excellent quality. Remember to put your breakfast order in each day. Short walk to the Seine and Notredame. For foodies, hotel is near Rue Mouffetard. Great cafe/bistro next door. Unfortunately had building across the road being dimolished during our stay, but in normal circumstances shouldn't be a noisy location.

I do not recommend ordering breakfast at the hotel, because there are lots of cafes nearby, for the same price you can get more. Staff was very nice and helpful. I do really recommend this hotel for poeople who want to visit Paris, reasonable price.

Location FANTASTIC for 3 night stay. Beautiful buildings. Walking distance to so many sights. Underground only around the corner. Lots of places to eat. Staff very helpful. Room had balcony overlooking street. No air-con so had to leave windows open. VERY noisy - people at night and traffic in the morning. not much soundproofing in hotel either. Would being ear plugs next time!!

We just spent 1 night in Paris but would have happily stayed longer in this hotel. The location is great, easily accessible by public transport and just short walk away from the Latin Quarter where you can find a range of good restaurants and bars. The staff in the hotel were great- polite, friendly and very knowledgeable and helpful. Our room was clean and quiet - it was quite small and the bathroom was tiny but both were perfectly adequate, after all we were out sight-seeing all day and only went back to the hotel to sleep!! We didn't have breakfast in the hotel because 6 euros seemed rather expensive, but there are plenty of kiosks on the streets where you can buy croissants etc. Overall we were impressed with this hotel and will definitly stay there again next time we are in Paris.

Hotel was fairly nice and clean, would be lovely in Winter as it has central heating and double glazed windows. Unfortunately in summer it's like an oven if you close the windows and extremely noisy if you open them. So noisy that you really can't sleep. Shame though as otherwise the hotel is very nice

The staff were extremely professional & helpful. The room we stayed in was clean, and had a great view off the balcony. Being that it is in an old building that has been turned into a hotel, there are obvious problems that come along with that.. The room was very small, almost having to move the bed out of the way to open the door to the bathroom. You could hear the people in the room next to you VERY clearly, and almost able to hear people a few rooms away it seemed. Other than those complaints, it is in a nice location and there are plenty of restaurants/cafe's nearby to eat at.

Very pleasant. This busy hotel has guests from many countries. The location is ideal. The rooms are just as expected - small but cozy. My only surprise was the bathroom - not at all as pictured (smaller and still awaiting a creative plumber).

For the price you pay for a hotel in the Latin Quarter of Paris, this hotel was really a bargain. The hotel is in a nice and convenient part of town, only 100m from a metro station and walking distance to just about everything. Our room was nice and big with heaps of space. There was, however, an unpleasant mouldy smell that permeated the bathroom all the time. And the walls are thin so you are the mercy of your neighbours, especially if they enjoy singing in the shower! Apart from that though, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We had one hurried night in Paris and picked this hotel because of the location within a few blocks of Notre Dame. The rooms were extremely small, noisy and shabby, with truly inadequate pillows (really bolsters with the sheet tucked over, something we hadn't seen since visiting France in the 1970s. The breakfast, while delicious, was not worth the price charged and eating it in the small room was uncomfortable. The whole hotel is in an old building with a wooden staircase that is possibly a fire hazard. This is vintage Paris and maybe something you don't want to miss experiencing. Also, the helpfulness of all the employees (certainly not vintage Paris!) and the location more than made up for the small inconveniences. Not only could we walk to Notre Dame, we could have walked to many other historical sites if we had only had time. We will stay at this hotel again but have breakfast at one of the numerous cafes in the area rather than in the hotel. If you require luxury, don't go here. If you location combined with a good price is the important thing for you, you won't be disappointed.

An excellent location in the Latin Quarter with quite a few major attractions within walking distance. Stayed a total of 5 nights and the price was exactly that which was reserved on Venere. Very nice restaurant attached to the Hotel with a variety of café’s, restaurant’s grocery stores, sandwich shops, bakeries etc… scattered throughout the area. A large variety of food categories with very reasonable prices. Passed on the in-room breakfast since food was a plenty all around. Great area to walk around regardless of the hour. There are two Metro stops minutes away with one being only a block away making it easy to see any point in the city. Stayed in a room on the second floor with a nice balcony. Convenient in the fall weather since there is no in room refrigerator, we were able to store perishables and soft drinks on the balcony. Room was adequate size, a bit dated but no complaints especially when the main purpose is to sleep and shower. Staff was friendly, but find out when they lock up at night if you stay out late. Would stay here again with the exception of the warm months due to the fact of no room refrigerator and no air conditioning. Even with the doors to balcony open, street noise may be an issue.

The hotel is in a very convenient location to see sites by rapid transit or by foot if you are a little more adventurous. Boulangeries and restaurants are plentiful in the neighbouring blocks around the hotel. The room smelled a bit smoky when I first checked in. I inquired about switching to a non smoking room and was told that they don't differentiate between the two. I left the window open a fair bit and it seemed to make a big difference. The sound of closing doors and people stomping up the stairs was quite noticeable at all hours of the day.

Convenient location, near to Mouffetard, Pantheon, Notre-Dame etc. On a busy road so quite noisy but not a big problem. We stayed a couple of nights and met at least 5 different people on reception, which kind of backs up the feeling that the hotel is a stop-over place rather than somewhere you'd stay for longer. But no complaints - room clean, not too tiny - apart from the bathroom suite which was that pink colour that I thought I had seen the last of. Reasonably priced for Paris and perfectly acceptable standard.

The room we had had a balcony which was great for watching the world go by. No aircon was the only down side as the street was very noisy if you opened the windows.

This is a basic hotel in the most interesting part of Paris - exactly what we were looking for. Excellent value for money. Our room was small and clean - unfortunately quite stuffy and, with the window open, very noisy. However, if you're spending too much time in your hotel room in Paris, you're not trying hard enough! The hotel is situated close to public transport and the area is abundant in inexpensive bars, cafes, brasseries and creperies. Many major sights are within easy walking distance, and others easily reached by Metro. The staff members at the hotel were helpful and friendly, their English impeccable, and nothing was too much trouble. I highly recommend this hotel for a short stay in Paris (bring earplugs). For anything longer than 3 nights, an apartment is more appropriate.

We stayed here for one night on our last night in Paris and were a little disappointed with the hotel (cleanliness was an issue(stains on towels)- It is an old, no frills hotel-the location is great, the hotel is not. This was the first 2 star hotel we stayed at while travelling in Europe so perhaps it was in line with 2 star standards, but overall we would not stay here again.

A fantastic location for any person visiting Paris. Close to all forms of transport and within walking distance to many of the great areas of Paris. I will stay here again on my next trip. We enjoyed the selection of bars and cafes that surround the hotel. Again well recommended

Carino, silenzioso, senza troppe pretese.

The day staff was very nice and welcoming. The night staff was not attentive at all. There are many types of rooms within this hotel with the same price. We booked 2 double-room with the price of $98. One has no A/C and has very old carpet while the other one has A/C with laminated floor. Room is small but clean. The hotel is very close to metro station (only 1 block of walking) and in walking distance with Notre Damme Catherdal. There is an open-air market on Sunday near by the hotel. On our second night, there were a group of young men stayed on the same floor, and they were drunk and made so much noise throughout the night, but the night staff did not do anything.

This hotel was in an excellent location. Rooms were small as expected, but even the beds were small too. Woke up with back ache every day! Also, it was quite cold, and the heating in the hotel didn't come on until the evening. Also charged tax on top of quoted price.

Was not sure what to expect from reviews, but decided to risk it. Room ok, slightly cramped as there were 3 of us. Big dark headboard and wardrobe did not help impression.Double glazing excellent, but had to open it first night as we were hot (in February!)Beds comfortable, TV high up on bracket was a bit of a neck strainer. Bathroom clean and refurbished, but not much room on the loo for those with ample backsides! We took breakfast at the cafe on the corner (Royal Jussieu) slightly cheaper, and more spacious surroundings than would have been in our room and a choice of menu if required. Crepe shop opposite was open all hours for late night snacks. A very good area for access to sights - we were on a church organ crawl- and restaurants. My son had a run-in with one member of staff who demanded the room key from him when he went out alone, leaving us in the room. The lift is very small, and there was a stool in it in the mornings, which did not help.As we were out and about we did not spend that much time in the room, so it was adequate.

The hotel was actually in a great location. Close to the metro and right by the Notre Dame. The street leads onto the Isle St Louis. The room was small, but we are in Paris, i have yet to see a spacious room. THe bathroom as okay, but the beds were not too comfy. The only real problem we had was the noise. Someone either next to us or under us were talking very loud. It felt like they were in our room. We had to get up early in the morning to get to the airport and this went on until about 2am. I think the sound traveled through the heater. I would have to say that i probably will not stay here again, but the stay was not disappointing. It was mostly pleasant. The employees were very helpful and spoke English very well.

The place is near a metro, too bad that during our first two days there was a strike that we took a long walk before finding the hotel. The rooms have dark interiors which made it look small. Our room was located at the top floor and had a lot of windows - we had a good view. The hotel is nearby eating areas and metro which is a plus.

Lovely location in the university precint, a few blocks from cafes but plenty of services nearby and easy access to the underground rail. Not too far a walk to Notre Dame but everything else is a day trip if walking. Room well kept and surprisingly quiet, but a very cramped bathroom. Few hotel services otherwise. I think we even developed some warmh with the reception staff by our second day :-)

We decided to stay in the Quartier Latin for this trip, and found the Cardinal hotel to be fine for our needs. It's in a great location (very close to St Michel, which has a number of Metro and RER trains). The rooms are nice -- small, but that's typical for Paris. Reception/concierge are fluent in English and friendly. Breakfast is optional and served in our room (we never went for it). Bathrooms are a little dingy, but nothing to worry about. In sum, a classic Parisien 2* hotel, at a good rate and in a good location.

We had a great stay at the Hotel Au Royal-Cardinal. I marked them down for noice, but that was only because we were there in Oct. 07 during the rugby world cup. Everywhere in Paris was loud the night France won. I would recommend this to others. Good value for the price.

10/22-11/3/07 We had a great stay at Royal Cardinal. It is 1 block from the Cardinal Lemoine metro station and a quick walk to Place Maubert, Blvd St Germaine, and Notre Dame. If you're planning to stay more than a couple of nights, you may want to take soap and a wash cloth or mitt--the former supplied is inadequate for bathing and the latter not provided. The lift is small, but quick and effective to move heavy luggage. The cleaning people can be noisy in the mornings and there are no "Do not disturb" signs to hang outside one's door. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. We found the beds a little too firm and the pillow roll uncomfortably small. Through Venere, we paid 95 euros/night + 1 euro tax. Overall, it was a safe, clean, well-located place to stay at a reasonable price. Thank you!

The hotel was in the Latin Quarter, and excellent location, within easy walking distance of Notre Dame, The Louvre. The staff in the hotel were expecting us and our room was immediately available. When we checked out the staff got a shuttle bus, which was on time. We were very pleased with the room,it had a very large balcony looking out over a major intersection. The room was serviced daily. The staff was always friendly and helpful. I certainly would stay at this hotel again.

The room was really really small and I guess noisy at summer when you must keep the window open (no air conditioning); in October it was cold outside so it as not been an issue. Breakfast is not included and there is no common room, so they will serve it in your room: do not like it! Free Wi-Fi was really "Wow!", although you must re-connect every 1/2 hour. People are nice, the location is really ok, quality vs. price more than acceptable.

Our first trip to Paris and we elected to stay in the Latin Quarter. The hotel is on a busy 5 road intersection and is very noisy. Double glazing on the windows, but no air conditioning. Windows need to be open for fresh air, but traffic noise is loud. The hotel is close to 2 metro lines, lots of cafes and eateries and within walking distance of river and Notre Dame, Pantheon etc.

We were three adults (father/mother/29 yr old daughter) in small room with a double and a single bed. 5th floor room with balcony and view of roof tops of 5th Arr. Location excellent with 5 minute walks to two diff. metro lines and Musee de Cluny. This traditional Paris pension is good value for seasoned tourists for whom lodging is primarily for washing and sleeping.

Location was very good - less than 10 mins walk to Notre Dame and very close to the Metro. The rooms were clean and basic but the towels were extremely worn. There was some noise from the street outside.
