This is a small hotel located near the Luxembourg Gardens and very close to two metro lines. The staff was just wonderful. Friendly and helpful. The hotel was extremely clean. The breakfast was typical (included cereal) but good. I would highly recommend this hotel for its price. We were a group of 6 and enjoyed it immensely. There is a wonderful Italian restaurant in the neighborhood.

Our initial room was in the front of the hotel and it turned out to be very noisy during the night from people hanging out outside. We asked for a quieter room in the back and the hotel accommodated us; our new room was very quiet. Staff were nice enough to provide breakfast for us even though we came down too late; it was good. The hotel is in a good neighborhood with lots of restaurants. Staff spoke enough English to communicate. Worth staying here.

We had a great experience at our stay. The staff was really friendly and helpful and spoke english well. Of course the rooms were small, typical for Paris, but they were clean and comfortable. It is in a great location as the metro stop is right out the door. Close to a great bakery and many other great cafes. A little noisy at night, but with earplugs I didn't notice a thing. Close to lots of great attractions.

The hotel staff were extremely nice and welcoming, always smiling and helpful. The room westayed in wasa family-room and it was too narrow. We thought it would have been more spacious, and we were a bit disappointed when we saw how small it was. But the bathroom wasnice and clean, aswell as the bedroom. Very nice Cuban pub/restaurant next door, as well as Le Select and La Coupole...

We spent a great time in Paris. The hotel is very good located. It is a typical Paris one. With very small rooms but very good services and excellent the personnel disposition we could enjoy very much our week in Paris. Breakfast is acceptable taking in consideration price/quality relation.

My 13 year old grandson and I arrived as scheduled on April 22, 2009 via the Chunnel, and were welcomed by reception. I was expecting the typical small room at the L'Atelier Montparnasse as I had stayed there two years earlier, but instead we were put in the top floor large twin room. It was gigantic, even by American standards, and I believe the largest one in the hotel. It should be noted that in the ratings above, I was rating the room we stayed in which is very large. All the other rooms, however, are quite small--Parisian small. Very clean room, comfortable beds and spacious bathroom. The reception varied somewhat in language and competence. One woman in particular was very helpful, spoke English much better than my French, called the airlines for my confirmation and even remembered me from two years earlier. The receiving woman must have been new on the job for just a little while as she didn't have us sign in, and knew a bit of the procedure but not a lot. The night person was friendly, spoke mostly French (naturally), and was very helpful as well. Spoke slow enough French so we could have a conversation. The cost was a bit more than two years ago, but I believe their rates changed to the summer months the week we arrived. Finally, the location of the hotel is superb with the Vavin stop on Montparnasse Boulevard on line #4 about two hundred feet away, plenty of cafes nearby and the Jardin Luxembourg a short walk away. I would stay there again in a hearbeat.

It's a nice surprise to have a bath with enough hot water in the room. Howevr, the bed mat is worn out and the pillow is small, which reminds me a cheaper hotel in countryside. The location is convenient to use Paris Metro but a little walking to go to SNCF Montparnasse, which was the main reason for me to chose the hotel. There is nothing fancy the name implies in the hotel.

Our family of two adults and two young teenagers enjoyed our stay here. The staff was pleasant and courteous, the room relatively spacious and modern, the location good. We were on the 6th floor facing the street and you had to close the windows to much reduce the noise factor of street work and the trash removal truck. The only noise then was the low groan of the elevator from time to time, which was tolerable. My only complaint was that when the website listed that breakfast was served every day, and wireless internet was provided, I assumed that it was included in the room rate displayed. I booked on that basis and faced with the bill later, I felt this was misleading, something they could have simply corrected by a paranthesized explanation before you book ("extra charge"). The breakfast was convenient but not worth it for a family of four light eaters. Other than this I think it was a good deal.

Everyone working at this hotel was very friendly and helpful. One receptionist gave us great tips on restaurants in the immediate area. L'Atelier Montparnasse is located steps away from the Vavin Metro stop, line 4. It's also just down the street from the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens, which has plenty of chairs and lots of stuff for kids to do. Everyone stops at Amorino for gelato on the way to the Gardens. We skipped breakfast at the hotel because there is a nice cafe around the corner which sells huge omelettes, croissants, juice and coffee for only a little more money. I definitely would stay here again.

The room was small, a little shabby and in need of some touch-up painting, but otherwise clean. It suited me fine as a single traveller. It was on the 1st floor overlooking the street and was a little noisy at night. The staff were very welcoming and appreciated my brave efforts at speaking French. The breakfast was standard continental, and I always felt like a decent coffee at a nearby cafe afterwards. The location was superb, being close to The Luxumberg Gardens-one of my most favorite places in all of Paris. I thought it was good value for money. I would happily return again

We were travelling with our two children aged 8 and 9. The hotel is in a good location. Less than a minute to the Metro, shops, restaurants and the Luxembourg Gardens are a 5 minute walk away. The staff were polite and friendly. Our children shared a sofabed which was fine for them. Our bathroom looked new and was spotless and sparkling. I'd happily stay in this area and use this hotel again.

Criticism of the stairs & lift on other websites is overdone - there is no problem. Room small - but that's Paris. Other couple had electric failure one night, but did not want to change room - given unexpected reduction on bill. Some noise in our room at night from next-door bar, though not bad. Very convenient for numerous restaurants, metro, chemist and bank. All staff pleasant and obliging, ready to speak English or encourage a French learner! When the receptionist runs after you in the rain to offer the loan of the hotel umbrella, you know you've come to the right place.

The room had a medium sized brand new T.V. The rooms were very tastefully decorated, and very clean. It was very close to the Pantheon, Luxembourg Park, the Montparnasse Tower, and a subway connection. It only takes 20 minutes to walk to the River Seine areas, so although not super close to the museums--- it wasn't too far either. I thought for the amount that was charged per day, it was a good value for the friendly staff and cute room. --Ms. S. Brown, USA

The hotel had the basics i.e Bed, bathrooms etc. but it was very small. The decor was outdated and the rooms were smaller than they looked on the website. The location was good as there is a metro right around the corner thankfully as there is not a lot to do in that specific area.

From the maps I thought this hotel was a little closer to the Luxembourg gardens and the sights of paris, although there were very convenient metro atations nearby. The room was nicely furnished, but very small, as is the case in Paris, and expensive for what is offered. Lots of eateries nearby.

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are small, but adequate. (We don't require much, but would prefer to have a shower curtain - a tad strange to soak an entire bathroom unnecessarily.) The halls and elevator are tiny. If you are looking for a resort hotel, this is not it. But, the location is perfect for walking to Notre Dame, the bookstalls along the Seine, the old shopping area of Montparnasse, and several parks. The Metro is nearby for further adventures.

Great location at 4 metro stops and the RER, 2 at the door and 2 within 2 blocks. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would stay here again. Staff reccomended great restaurants all within 5 minutes. Montparnasse is the best location in Paris for a real feel of the city without all the tourist! Vist bistro Chez Marcel (since 1919)for a great 100 euro dinner you will remember. Seats only 20.

The location is perfect for good eating (La Coupole and Le Dome were particularly fantastic)and for walking the city, but for those who find a twenty minute walk to the very centre of Paris too far (!) there's the metro right on your doorstep too. We weren't intending to spend much time in the rooms so the size was adequate, and bathroom facilities and decor were very good. Luxembourg Gardens were well placed for a morning stroll, but there were also some reasonably priced boutiques nearby. We had a great time and the hotel staff investigated excursions, train times and availability of restaurants for us. They could not have been more helpful and we'd definitely go back. This was excellent value for money.

Lovely small hotel in the heart of Paris. Really close to the line 4 of the Metro and in front of a restaurant serving a good pizza, the hotel has few rooms, a little bit too small (but in Paris is usual) but very clean and confortable, and a confortable bathroom with a nice mosaic on the wall (the hotel was an atelier, and every room has the name of the artist under the number). The personnel at the reception was very very kind and always at disposal (Air France left my luggage in Italy and the receptionist called the company on behalf of me to know where it was). If I'll travel again to Paris I think I'll book again at Atelier Montparnasse.

The staff at L'Atelier Montparnasse were wonderful. They were extremely helpful and provided great food/sightseeting reccomendations. However, the rooms are farely small. Staff were outstanding especially the manager Bineta Fall who could not do enough for us. The photograph on the web is misleading and gives the impression of much larger rooms. Our friends from Los Angeles who chose this hotel because we were staying there, thought the same about room size. Location excellent, right beside metro. Despite the small rooms and size of hotel, we enjoyed the intimacy and friendly staff who made us feel like family. Will definitely stay there again.

Rooms were very small and noisy. The hotel is situated close to a busy street with shops and resturants. Little in terms of visitors sites locally but very close to Metro. Staff really friendly. In our room light fitting was hanging out of a low ceiling right above the bath. Extremely dangerous. All in all despite the really great staff the place was really pricey, out of the way with really old small rooms.Wouldnt go back.

Pictures re rooms very misleading - very very tired and needed complete redecoration. Would hate to get trapped in a fire as no fireescape and advice on door was to hang out of window and attract attention. Sheets and bathroom very clean. Staff very friendly and welcoming which made up for shabbiness of rooms. In very nice area of Montparnasse area. We had inward facing room which was very dark and dismal but quiet whilst our friends had better room on the outside but very noisy all night.

The room wasn't big but big enough as we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. We could move easily around the bed. The walls could have done with a coat of paint but otherwise very clean. The staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel was very quiet even with the work being done inside the hotel to install air conditioning. I can not say enough about the welcome we got when we reached the hotel. By far the best reception and information came from the male day clerk. The hotel is in a quiet area within walking distance of all the attractions. The bathrooms are just like the pictures on the website but the rooms are small and in need of updating but VERY CLEAN. They are in the process of installing air conditioning which will be a plus. The accomadations were fine for our short stay in Paris. Overall everything was clean, in a good location, with EXCELLENT staff, and with the new renovations it will definately be a place to stay again .

Overall we had a nice experience, but the photos are a little deceiving. The rooms were very small and, although it is stated in the description, there is NO air conditioning! Also, in the pamphlet in our room, it was stated that the hotel had a bathroom kit in case you forgot something. Well, when I asked for toothpaste, the guy at the counter had no idea what I was talking about.

This listing says the entire property is air conditioned. It is not. No part of this hotel is air conditioned -- not the lobby, not the breakfast room, none of the guest rooms. The best you'll get is a rickety old fan that barely makes a breeze. And, you'll have to sleep with the windows wide open to avoid suffocation from the Summer heat. Unfortunately, this creates a very loud, traffic-laden night's sleep.

Were do I start....We went to a few cities while in Europe: Rome, Venice, Paris, Barcelona and London. This hotel was by far one of the best places I have stayed to date, anywhere. When we first got to Paris the cab drivers were very rude and did not want to drive us to the hotel becasue we could not speak french. So my first impression of Paris was not that great. When we got to the hotel however, Kim was very nice to us. Kim is the night time desk man. He is from Vietnam originally and has lived in Paris for 40 years now. He is by far the nicest, most wordly person I have ever met. When we arrived Kim took care of everything for us. The elevator was small, so we went first and then Kim brought the bags up for us. When we tried to tip him he refused...very very nice. When we left he wanted to have coffe for us at 5am. Then he called us a cabe as wished us good luck on the rest of our trip. The hotel is in a great location. There were 3 of us in one room so we had 3 twin beds ready when we arrived. The room also had a very nice sized private bathroom with great water pressure and hot water. The night was not too loud even though it is in a very active part of the city for nightlife. We slept very well with an open window. The metro is about 20 yards from the hotel and the Paris Metero can take you anywhere you want to go so transportation is super easy. There is also breakfast avaliable at the hotel but there are tons of places to visit right around the hotel as well. If you take the metro in get off at the Vivan stop. The hotel is right around the corner. If I ever return to Paris I will stay there again. I would give the hotel a 10 out of 10.... thanks for everything Kim. you and the hotel made our trip so much more than we thought.
