The hotel advertised free internet in the rooms, but the Wi-Fi did not work in our room. In addition the toilets in the two bedrooms we booked broke, and the carpet was dirty. The wallpaper was falling off, and the room was much smaller than advertised. The trash bag in the kitchen was right below the croissants we were supposed to take for breakfast, and the kitchen seemed so dirty that we decided to skip breakfast. Although the staff was very friendly, this hotel was well below our expectations.

-it is very difficult to find the hotel -simple breakfast, but with fresh bread and drink, overall, it is ok -the lift is always out of order, but the staff can bring our luggage to bedroom, when lift is down, it is very helpful for me

We booked 2 twin rooms and on arrival was given one room with 4 beds and one double! a second room with twin beds could not be sourced so we shared the larger room for a small discount on price. Room was cleaned daily, towels not great and breakfast very basic but for a short stay location was ideal.

Altona is simple, cheap but run-down. My single room was extremely small and neither the phone nor bed-side light worked. There was also a step-ladder sitting outside my door for my whole stay! However, if you want, basic low-priced acomodation in a quiet street near the Gare du Nord, it's OK.

we stayed for 3 nights but it was a really nice stay. the staff was very very friendly and gentle, the room was clean and they changed the towels everyday. I used wireless internet and it worked very well. the breakfast wasn't perfect but anyway plentiful and good. i red a lot of bad comments about this hotel instead i would advice it to my friends and to all of you.

Its a bad experience with no services for the cost of rooms. No hospitality, whatsoever. Very lousy and scanty breakfast. we were made to change our rooms after two days and had to wait more than 2 hours to get checked in on first day as, despite of prior booking, rooms were not available.

Very dingy depressing hotel, probably one of the worst conditions in this locality and I have stayed in this area for many years as transport links are so handy. However, I will say that the bathroom and the beds were clean which would be my main concern, I can put up with the rest being sub standard but I would not return and I would suggest it is not suitable for children, older people, anyone with allergies or sensitive to grubbyness!

The hotel was indicated on venere.com as being located at Republique station, however, when we got there and asked for directions to the hotel we were told that it was near to Gare Du Nord, where we had just travelled from. The closest station to the hotel is in fact, Barbes Rochechouart, which is one stop away from Gare Du Nord in the opposite direction of where we were informed the location was. This was very annoying as we had to transport our luggage on the metro and were going the opposite way of where we were told the hotel was situated.

I had a terrible 3 nights stay at HOTEL ALTONA! I was booked for Dec 3-7 at this hotel. I got there at 1 pm but it took my 30 minutes to get the attention of the most weird owners of the hotel (the twins!) that I was there to check in! They were quarreling on the phone and with each other with so loud voices that even people walking outside the hotel was staring inside to see what was going on. After 30 minutes of waiting them to calm down, they told me to go and come back at 3 pm! I refused by saying that Venere confirmed that the rooms would be available at any time from 1 p.m. They rudely said NO and asked me to leave and come back at 3 pm, if I wanted to stay there! If I did not reserve the first night by Venere, I'd never come back after such a bad wellcome treatment, but I did! At 3 pm, I was given the most terrible room possible ever, room number 20. The walls were rotten, you could see the rotten material (wood, wall paper etc) coming out of the walls. There was a heavy layer of dust all over the place and the room had a heavy stinking smell! The towels had a weird smell as if they were already used by the last guest! Since I waited such a long time to check in and was already tired to look for a new hotel with my heavy luggage, I decided to stay there. On the second day, they told me they would change my room to another one. I refused by saying, for such a thing they should have warned me at check-in time and I would never change the room if the new room was even dirtier than the one I was staying at! They said, either take it or leave the hotel! I mean it! Since I wasn't willing to change my room, they literally kicked me out of the hotel! I felt so humiliated by these twins! They are only a very bad reference for your agency so please remove them from your hotel list!

I would like to warn the future guest of the hotel that when we came to Altona to check in we were told that there no rooms available in this hotel and the receptionist began to search any available rooms in the nearest places. As a result we lived in the hotel of the lowest category in the next street! To say that it was horrible - just say nothing! Only negative emotions about the whole situation. So please be ready for such situation when you will order this hote.

When I arrived at this hotel, even with a confirmed reservation, the owner mentioned the paper was for nothing. My friends stayed there, the reason for choosing this hotel. My friends had a room with no electricity (but there was much more…); they had to change to a new one (which was not cleaned from prior using). My friends have even a pretty much longer disaster story to tell on this as long as a book. The room they stayed before was occupied same night later also without cleaning. The bath was pretty much dirty as well and a 5 minutes shower would cause a flooding. The owner is weird. I would not recommend this hotel even if they paid me to stay in. I pretty much recommend venere to take this hotel out of the list. As I will give a second try on venere.com if the next time I get such experience again I will start a campaign to stop to use this site as well. Thanks.

The hotel is very close to Barbe Rochechouart metro (not Republique, as it says on the website!), close to Montmartre for an evening out and only a 10-minute walk from Gare du Nord. Our triple room was OK - clean but rather small. The ensuite shower/loo had been recently re-furbished. The staff were helpful, letting us use the Internet to confirm our flights back to the UK. Breakfast was OK but the coffee could have been much better. We had a room at the back, which was noisy in the morning. Good value in a convenient location.

OK for the price, and convenient for the Metro, but rather inefficient. They had lost our booking for the first night. However, they squeezed us into a very small room for that night. On the departure day, someone had dropped the visa card machine and broken it, so they wanted us to go and get cash. When we said we couldn't, they accepted our card number and signature.

We arrived at Hotel Altona in late afternoon and found that they had sold out all rooms. We had walked 20 blocks from the Metro station and were exhausted from traveling all day. The desk clerk did call another hotel about 5 blocks away and arranged for a room for us there at Hotel Champagne. It was a RATHOLE! The maid picked up towells on the hall floor and gave them to as when we found that there were none in the room, there was unidentified streams of dried gunk on the walls and the room had no place to set luggage down. It overlooked nearby roofs with garbage on them and it smelled like an ashtray. We were so tired, we spent the night there anyway, but what a disappointment for our last night on a great trip. I would like to think that the original hotel we booked would have been better than the one we ended up in. Since we did not stay there, we filled in the above questionaire to the best of our ability without seeing a room. Regards, Bob & Gini Read
