Excellent value for money - we could not believe our luck in getting such an impressive room for so little money. The hotel is ideally situated for seeing the old quarter which we would thoroughly recomend . The only downside was that the cathedral was closed when we got there at 3.00pm on a saturday afternoon. We did experience some noise around 2.00am when the owners of the property next door decided to have a " domestic" but this only lasted a few minutes and we went back to sleep. We will certainly go to this hotel again unlike the time share we spent the previous week in which delivered little of the alleged qualities that Club la Costa claimed for it.

We stayed in a double room at the back of the hotel overlooking a rather scruffy backyard. The room was a little "tired" in its decoration but perfectly clean. A problem with the shower was dealt with immediately. It was our second stay, Born caters for all ages and types of clientèle.

We have been to Palma de Mallorca four times before and found the Hotel Born by far the best hotel we have stayed in. Location was excellent, the room was clean and spacious, good breakfast. The hotel is very much "old Spain", very attractive with a lovely courtyard filled with palm trees. The hotel cost 100 euros per night which I feel is expensive for a two star hotel, however I realise this was due to the low value of the pound. I would recommend this hotel if you want a basic, clean attractive hotel with a good breakfast and in a great location.

Historical building wonderfully situated in the heart of Palma. The staff are friendly and welcoming with excellent language skills. Nothing was a problem for them. There are plenty of tapas bars around the area of the hotel - my tip would be to go in and around the small lanes in the centre to be where the locals choose to send their evenings.

Good value, excellent breakfast which can be taken in an open courtyard under palm trees. Not to everyone's taste; no lift & stair carpets are a bit threadbear, but loads of atmosphere; a grand marble entrance area.Staff are friendly & helpful

The relationship between price and quality is extremely good for Hotel Born in Palma. I paid a very competitive price for a very confortable stay just in the centre of the city. I will suggest of course.

Everything was fine: the room, the wonderful patio, the flair, the location. Only one thing: the cockroach in the bathroom, welcoming us did not belong to this wonderful place!

No elevator, four floors. Ask for a room at the first floor, otherwise you will be tired immediately at the beginning of your stay... Apart form this problem the hotel is very good, even though the price is quite high when considering that is is a two star hotel.

The hotel accomodated our need for a larger room when our children joined us at short notice. The square within the hotel where we ate breakfast was lovely and our room overlooked it.The only thing i would say is if you have heavy cases and you are infirm or have a buggy with young children you would struggle with the stairs as there is no lift. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay, we stayed 3 nights which was perfect for our needs before travelling to other parts of the island.Bottled water in the room would have been great there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room which i missed.

This hotel is a great one, especially in the heart of the city. Easy access to almost everywhere. It was nice staying here. The breakfast in the yard is one of the most fantastic piece of our stay. It may be difficult to find it when you arrive by car, it would be better if more guidance for first time guests is provided.

An utterly charming hotel in a quiet traffic free street in the centre of the town. OK it only has 2 stars, there's no lift,no room service and the stair carpet is a bit frayed but as a place to stay it is brilliant. The entrance hall and central courtyard (where you eat breakfast) is simply beautiful. You can almost imagine you are the duke whose palace it was in the 16th century. We would certainly stay there again.

Positive: Plush décor decorates the reception area and the halls giving a palatial impression. A nice courtyard complements the interior. The bathroom was spacious and clean and had plenty of hot water. The location is good. Negative: The single room I ended up in was small with a prison-like window which I needed a chair to stand on in order to look out. Also, this room had no number on it so I’m presuming it’s a converted storeroom of some sorts. There were no tea & coffee making facilities in the room.

The hotel was great for one or two nights stay, centrally located and fantastic surroundings. Lovely courtyard for breakfast in the mornings and very grand staircase in entrance. The oly let down for us was the noise of sleeping in a room overlooking the alleyway, luckily I had read previous reviews so had taken earplugs along but I don't think that I would have slept if I hadn't. Other than that a great hotel!

We have stayed at the Born four times in the last three years and we keep returning because we find the hotel welcoming, comfortable and idealy situated for a visit to Palma. It is not luxurious but that is its charm it has an historic feel which in our opinion fit exactly with the atmosphere of Palma itself. Practically the rooms are good, clean and the common areas are spectacular and atmospheric and breakfast in the courtyard is worth the cost alone. We always book a room overlooking the courtyard and the beautiful palm trees there. Don't expect 4 star luxury for instance the Born does not have a lift but for convenience of location friendly atmosphere and overall value the Born does take some beating ....we will return.

Although this hotel has an unpretentious facade in a narrow alley/street, it is a lovely hotel with a beautiful marble columned reception area with sweeping staircase & a lovely inner courtyard. The fact it was a palace originally stands out a great deal. Great location for Palma Old Town & city sightseeing and shopping. Very quiet at night -at least in April. The hotel is only 2 seconds walk from a main square/boulevard with cafes and bars serving good food and drink until late. 7/10 minutes walk to Cathedral and sea front. 10/15 minutes from Railway Stations - take the Soller train through the mountains for a day out - fantastic! Very helpful staff, particularly in sorting out our return pick up for airport; continental breakfast great with plenty of variety. Stayed for 4 nights with friends in 2 junior suites - amazing. Our suite (Room 104) had TWO fourposter/canopy beds and room for 2 more! We had an ante room with settee, coffee table and wide screen TV and bathroom off. Lots of storage for clothes etc. Other suite (Room 308) very good but not quite as big. Only downside would be for anyone with mobility problems as there is no lift but it certainly didn't trouble us. We now want to go back it was so good! Highly recommended.

Great location; a little tricky to find, but well worth the price. Rooms are sparse, but remember it was a convent, and little time is actually spent there. Bus #1 from the airport at Palma is the way to go rather than spending a fortune in a taxi. Very good full breakfast, but no elevator.

Great location, on a quiet road but just round the corner from the main shopping area and only about 10min walk from the buses and trains. Although a bit thread-bare the hotel had a very homely feel. Generous breakfast with great coffee. Hotel has a lot of steps and no lift. Would happily stay there again.

Beautiful old stone building near the centre of town with a huge stone staircase and spacious airy rooms. Excellent reception staff. Breakfast was extensive and very well presented and unlike many places served a decent cup of tea. It had a large courtyard for sitting around tables and good Wifi reception there and in the reception area. The best single room I have stayed in, excellent value for money, would definitely stay there again.

We only stayed one night before joining our cruise ship but the hotel is a wonderful place to stay and we will return for a long weekend break soon. Its situation is a little hard to find but it is well placed to enjoy the old part of the city. As there is no lift some people may find some access difficulties. Don't let the two stars put you off - this is definitely NOT one of those crummy two-star hotels from decades past where you'd get a dose of Spanish tummy and no hot water. The reason it only receives an official two-star rating is because it doesn't offer certain facilities required to attain the higher ratings: There's no lift to service its three floors; It doesn't have a restaurant (yet still does a wonderful breakfast buffet with PROPER coffee); And there is no swimming pool. If it had those the hotel would get a higher star rating - but we'd also be paying much more, especially because of its unbeatable 'heart of the action yet still an oasis of peace and quiet' location. As the photos show, the traditional Mallorcan lobby is stunning and passing tourists continually step inside for a look. While the rooms are somewhat less plush they are still adequately furnished.

Lovely hotel in a 16th century mansion, and ideally situated at the top of the Passeig (up the side of C&A). Stayed in room 302 overlooking courtyard - good size and lots of light which rooms at front wouldn't have because of narrowness of street. Surprising amount of choice at breakfast and really excellent coffee! Beautiful hotel - loved it and will certainly stay again.

A lovely hotel. Lovely atmosphere and peaceful surroundings.Absolutely fantastic location, literally 5 mins from the old town, seafront/marina and great reastaurants. We stayed 1 night at the beginning of our hol's and returned for our last night. Both nights were rooms overlooking the courtyard which was lovely. Be prepared to to climb several flights of stairs if you are on the upper floors as there is no lift and also, most rooms are twin bedded, not doubles. I was told after our first night that there are only 2 doubles in the hotel.I couldn't find any tea/coffee facilities in the room, which is the only thing I would have added. Staff are really helpful and friendly, and bucks fizz at breakfast was a really lovely touch. Will definately go back at some point. Excellent.

Lovely building though in a great location in the heart of Palma a stone's throw from the Cathedral. A very good introduction to my first stay in Palma. The hotel location could not be faulted. The only slight fauls were that the heating in the room and public areas was not warm enough and requests had to be made to check the heating systems which seemed a bit erractic. Secondly, the hot water in the bathroom was tepid at most times to the wash basin and erractic to the shower, sometimes the hot water supply was tepid, and occasionally very hot. Very hit and miss!!

Do not go here if you cannot carry suitcase upstairs as there is no lift. We were on the 3rd floor so it was quite a hike with the case. If you do not want to spend money on services such as gyms etc this is a good place to stay. It has no frills but we found the room with a view of the courtyard quite pleasant. If you just want a place to rest your head it is ideal. Breakfast in the Born is adequate. Good food in (1)Tast, just round the corner on C. Unio. (2) El Pilon, C. Cifre, off Passeig des Born. (3) La Boveda, Passeig Sagrera AND C. Boteria.

I booked this short break as a surprise birthday present for my husband. We had talked of staying here for some time and had looked the hotel up when we were in Majorca in the summer. We were looking forward to our stay, however we were disappointed. The room we had overlooked the street. The street reminded me of the Shambles, in York in that the buildings were very close together across the street at roof level, which meant the light was almost completely cut out. The room was very very dark. There were two lovely lounges on the first floor but there was not enough light to read a book either in the room , or the lounges , neither natural nor artificial. The room was very cold. The heating was only turned on for an hour or so each day from about 6pm to 7pm. Even then it was on so low the radiator was barely warm. The water in the shower was never quite warm enough either. Admittedly we were there during a cold spell in Novemmber but the hotel was certainly not a welcoming haven after a day out.The courtyard dining room looked lovely but was never in use while we were there as it was too cold to eat outside. Breakfast was in a small dining room. We had to queue for a table each morning and had to clear our own table before we could sit down to eat, the staff seemed run off their feet. Freshly made coffee at breakfast was a plus though. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room either so no way of warming up at all. No room service available. Marvellous location right in the middle of Palma made up for a lot of the inconvenience but the cold dark room made it a place to avoid in the future on balance.Presumably the courtyard rooms would have been lighter but still, I suspect, cold.

A very pleasant and traditional Spanish hotel with a beautiful courtyard for breakfast and tasteful decor in the public areas. Our room could best be described as 'spartan', however, and not somewhere you would choose to spend much time - no window to see out of and facing the lane to the front of the hotel where late-night revelers passed...but it was very clean and functional. The hotel staff were excellent - efficient and friendly - and the hotel is ideally placed to explore Palma. All in all we recommend it - but worth paying extra for one of the higher-graded rooms as the 'basic' ones are very basic!

A delightful and exceptional hotel! We absolutely fell in love with Hotel Born. It is in a very charming area of the city - very safe - and strategically located. The cathedral was only a 5 minute walk - a host of restaurants were as close - and our favorite evening gelato stop was also only a short stroll away. We found the room to be very captivating and the front desk personnel helpful. Breakfast was a feast with so much to choose from! The only negative whatsoever was mediocre maid service and a lack of replenished toiletries. Overall, a gem of a spot and a tremendous value as well.

excellent value for money. Good location next to old town, bus stops across road for city sightseeing tour, location relatively quiet (on passaeway), most rooms open onto central courtyard (traditional spanish style also seen in colonial houses in south & central america). Breakfast is excellent buffet can be taken into courtyard (sun, palm trees, cacti, good food & drink mmmmmm). we asked for a typical mallorquin restaurant - Hotel recommended Sa Premsa (plaza obispo berenguer about 10 mins walk north) excellent food, few tourists, very good prices - 'starter' pa amb oli - bread, garlic, olive oil, olives, ham & cheese - was bigger than most main courses and only about 6 euro

Palma seemes to be a city of pensioners, most of the people there are elder so that the night life is perhaps not so inviting. Hotel Born is wonderful! Although up a side street, the hotel reception area was amazing, like stepping back in time. The inner courtyard was beautiful, a tranquil place to rest in the shade. The room was massive, and spotless, with enormous doors, and alarge lounge area immediately outside the room. The ceiling above the bed was a handpainted scene, very inspiring!! We cannot wait to go back there again, it was worth the money. Enjoyed the breakfast too, a good buffet selection, with excellent coffee, which could be eaten and drank in the inner courtyard.

I stayed in hotel Born off-season for a 3 day business trip in December. I booked 3 single rooms for myself and my colleagues and requested room upgrades in the comments box. When we arrived we were each given junior-suites for the same price as single rooms! We were delighted with our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is truly excellent. It is in the centre of the town and many shopping and eating places are a very short walk away. I gave less than a perfect "noise" rating because on the last morning of our stay a gardener started trimming the Palm trees in the courtyard at 7am. But I guess this operation only happens once a year, so I was just unlucky...

A superb old hotel in the heart of Palma old town. Eating breakfast in the courtyard, under the palm trees , was majical.

Very nice hotel. Lovely old building sympathetically modernised in an excellent location. Only slight problem was some noise from air con, but overall very good. Tip for anyone looking for a swim: get the bus to Illetes - it stops almost right ouside the hotel and costs next to nothing - the beach is lovely and great for swimming; much better than you'd expect for this end of Mallorca.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Born Hotel. It was very central, especially for the shopping!! The staff were very helpful and courteous. One of our party had a heart problem in the middle of the night and the night porter was very concerned and helpful, it was just a shame that the ambulance took such a long time to arrive. We would certainly return to the Born next time we visit Palma.

When I made the reservation I asked for and got an upgrade to a junior suite. Which was utterly fabulous and good value for the money. We are not talking new and modern here. I have stayed in plenty of modern hotels with little character to distinguish one from another. So Hotel Born was a breath of fresh air. Our suite was furnished with old furniture in character with the building - including a very nice four poster bed and wooden shutters for all the windows. Service was low key - which is the way we like it. But when we needed help (instructions and local advice) reception staff were happy to oblige. The hotel is in a good location just tucked off Passeig Born - close to the shopping areas and close to the sea. Breakfast is a buffet - no bacon and eggs here - get a coffee or tea from the bar then help yourself to fruit juices, various breads (which you can toast yourself), croissants, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, and a Mallorcan speciality peppers and onions on a dough base (think pizza without the cheese). If you want a taste of old Palma (we did)- forget the 2 star rating and choose this hotel. If you want to be waited on hand and foot in another air conditioned cloned hotel go somewhere else. For us - next time we visit Palma we will return to Hotel Born.

The hotel building was beautiful and the location was very central. We had a room overlooking the courtyard and there was little noise from outside. The only slight problem was the internal soundproofing of the room. You could hear the slightest sound from the next door rooms. The staff were efficient but not very welcoming.
