This Hotel is a disaster -very beautiful entrance foyer but that is the extent of it - We arrived and found we had to carry our cases up three steep flights of steps and they did not offer to assist us. The air-conditioning when turned on made a terrible noise which kept us awake all the 1st night and did not cool the room at all. When we complained they said they would fix it but the next night it started to scream so loudly it woke up all the people on the floor at 2.30 a.m. We had to move (without help) all our luggage at 2.30 a.m. up a further three flights of stairs. The next room was tiny and the air conditioner was not cooling that room either- so a second night without sleep. The rooms are situated around a court yard where breakfast is served so noise starts at 7.00 a.m. in the morning. The buffet breakfast is not replenished so you miss out if you are one of the last there. The staff were not apologetic nor helpful about the air conditioning or our having to move at 2.30 in the morning although they admitted that they had been unable to fix the air-con as they promised and that they had expected it to break again- they simply let us stay in the room the second night until it started to scream again. The rooms are not tenantable due to the heat and lack of air-con. I would not recommend this Hotel to anyone....They did not offer to lower the cost of our accommodation although we were extremely inconvenienced for 2 out of our 4 nights stay there...

Rooms fairly basic and those at lower end of price quite dingy. Recommend you ask for at least a junior suite. Breakfast adequate with same selection every day and more variation would be welcome. Situation great and there is a lovely bakery as you turn left out of the hotel at the top of the street.

The hotel is in an excellent location, within easy walking distance of all the city's attractions. The staff were extremely friendly. The breakfast was more than adequate and the courtyard area is delightful. The main drawback is the lack of a lift in this historic building but the staff are very ready to haul suitcases up and down stairs. Good value for money.

My wife and I stopped here for 7 nights in August 2013. Although we feel we have stopped at hotels which have provided more/better for the same money we still feel this is a hotel worth stopping at if you want an alternative to the sterile modern hotels which are so common today. The young male staff member who worked on breakfasts needs particular mention as his courteous, hardworking and helpful manner stood out among the other staff members we encountered. Overall Hotel Born provided us a good basic base with more positives than negatives. Positives: authentic architecture and atmosphere near to sea-front, shops, main sights and buses bathroom always had plenty of hot water excellent continental breakfast English news channel on TV Negatives: no tea/coffee facilities in room damp on side of shower-wall (bedroom side)

Has kept the character of a Mallorcan Palace. One room has a wonderful original mural on the ceiling but unfortunately is one of the very few rooms on to the street and is noisy. The hotel is in a great location in the heart of Palma and the old town. The down side is, there is no lift. Apart from that, an enjoyable hotel to stay in, and will be back next time in Palma.

Location of hotel is excellent, right in the center of Palma and shopping, restaurants, buses within 100m. Cathedral is right down the street. However, the doors to the room are very thin, and there is a gap underneath which allows all kind of noise from corridor right into the room. Stone or marble floor amplifies the sound, and the cleaning staff are pulling and slamming furninture around in other room nearby makes sleeping in morning impossible. Small feltpieces under furniture legs is strongly recommended to the manager. And solid doors pleaase. Also info to cleaners that people might try to sleep when banging the interior around. Except that, very nice and excellent located charming hotel in a comfortable price range. Try it!

Charming hotel is great location staffed by friendly and helpful people. My only complaint is about the acoustics. They are dreadful. In spite of the walls appearing to be made of solid stone I could hear the couple in the room next to me clearly (they are boring conversationalists and he snores). If you a light sleeper bring ear plugs.

Lovely little hotel, the room was really small with poor lighting but I was only staying for one night. I don't think I would like to stay there at a busy time as the noise can so easily be heard from next door rooms. Nice friendly guy at check in, even though it says that check in is from 2pm, my room was ready when I arrived at midday which I appreciated.

Excellent location near the Passeig des Born, the central boulevard where animated cafés spread out their tables in the shadow of magnificent plane trees. A former hôtel particulier, the hotel interior is on a grand scale, with a lobby worthy of a palace. In the patio, with two palm trees stretching to the sky, a full breakfast is served, and your café con leche is prepared to order by a barista. It’s a beautiful building with spacious, but less than soundproof rooms, which is however no major disadvantage. I would definitely return to this hotel, should I go back to Palma. For Swedes visiting Mallorca, the Svenska Konsulatet is just nearby, located in another impressive building.

Perfect location for all the sights of this lovely city. You need to be reasonably fit to stay here tho - no lift so a long haul with luggage up stairs and down corridors with no help from staff! However it was originally a 16c palace converted to a hotel and looking out of the window onto the palm tree court yard was worth the stair climb. Staff very helpful with info, printed bus time tables and made a phone call on my behalf.Do go on the mountain train single track to Soller and then take the tram to Port Soller - fantastic experience.

Perfect location, can't beat it. Great breakfast with fresh food and excellent coffee, lots of choice although no hot food. Breakfast can be taken in the wonderful patio. Great! Nice room even if it was a single room. Quiet as the room was on an inside court but I think it would have been quiet on the other side as it's a tiny pedestrian road and there are no bars etc around. All the fun starts 300m further. Perfect!

Good breakfasts with plenty of choice, taken in the splendid courtyard. The style of the hotel suggests that it is more appropriate for the middle aged and elderly, but the absence of a lift suggests otherwise. It was hard work for two 69 year-olds to carry their suitcases to the fourth floor up the stairs. It would have been better had there had been staff to carry them, but I got the impression that the hotel was run with the bare minimum of staff. That said, given the location and the not excessive prices, I would go there again but only if there was a room on the first or second floor.

The hotel is centrally located but down a small sidestreet without obvious signs. The room was spacious and adequately furnished but we requested a double room on the ground or first floor when we booked as we had mobility problems and their are no lifts available. We were given a twin room on the top floor as far away as possible from the top of the stairs. Also, noise from other rooms can be loud and sound seems to carry a long way internally. Breakfasts were adequate with no hot food available. Staff were generally helpful. There was free internet access available. This is good value if travelling on a budget but not for those with mobility or health problems.

The little negatives (lack of lift and absence of "luxury" features such as a bar, or any mini-bar in the room) were entirely outweighed by the charming old-Mallorcan ambience (large and gracefully high-vaulted entrance hall; adjoining open-air courtyard, impressive palm-tree at its centre). Our room, with courtyard view, was tastefully furnished, its modern bathroom bright and spotless. Attractive breakfast. Free internet access. Central location. The hotel was exactly what we were looking for, authentic and perfectly situated in Palma, near to the old town, very friendly staff, great room, basic but perfect, we had a courtyard room which was quiet - just a perfect Spanish feeling - much better than taking one of the standard modern box shaped hotels, would highly recommend to everyone. The location is in the center of the old town and easily accessible by taxi or by the excellent local bus system (with, literally, about 8-10 bus lines stopping within 100 meters of the hotel). The hotel is about 40-50 feet up a narrow street directly above Passieg Born, one of the principle streets of the old town. (It you did not know where you were going it could be difficult to find. But all the taxi drivers and everyone in the neighborhood knows it, and once you find it the first time, you can easily find your way back.) If you have a rental car, parking might be very difficult, but there is no reason at all to have a car in Palma - the city buses and even the intra-island bus system are very cheap, easy to use, and offer frequent buses. The cathedral and may other attractions are close by and easy to walk to. Many nice restaurants close by (try "Tast" tapas bar/restaurant only about 2 minutes away, about 50 feet east of Bar Bosch). The hotel breakfast (included), was very nice and the courtyard was a lovely place to start the day. Most of the staff spoke at least some English and were very courteous and helpful. The rooms are very large by European standards. We had windows that opened, including one with a view of the interior courtyard. Previous reviews describe the hotel pretty well. The building itself is beautiful and perfectly located to explore the town. Some of the public areas are a bit worn (like the red carpet that runs down the center of the stair and hallways), but still very nice and acceptable. Frankly, I think it is better to have a bit of wear but preserve the character of the place. Other than a bit of wear, the only negatives are as mentioned in prior reviews: 1) there is no elevator, and the stairs between the floors are not next to each other - you go from the first floor to the second, then have to go about half way around the second floor to get to the stairs to the third floor. Not really a big deal. 2) the beds

Hotel was lovely, perfect location, beautiful setting, clean and spacious rooms overlooking a beautiful courtyard. Only criticism is that most of the staff didnt seem friendly at all - the older lady looking after breakfast never said good morning to us the whole 5 days we were there, was generally surly and seemed only interested in chatting to her collegues. The older gentleman on reception took an age to hand write our bill (surely a computer print out in this day and age !)and there was no WI FI(broken)during our whole stay. The breakfasts definatly need more variety, theyre ok for a night or 2 but after a couple of days we were fed up with finding the same buffet when we came down to eat. This hotel also needs a manager to oversee the staff and check that guests are ok. Having said all of this we would absolutley stay there again! The hotel is really beautiful and positioned exactly where you need to be to take advantage of Palma.

The rooms are too small and the furniture is old. The hotel has 4 floors, but no elevator. They give me two single beds, and had no flexibility to change to a couple.

Centrally located on a small street off Avenue St Jaume. Rooms are simply furnished, but clean and serviceable. Nice buffet breakfast, and options to have drinks in courtyard from 5pm onwards. Staff are very helpful with any enquiry you may have.Rooms overlooking street can be noisy with passersby, and there is no lift in the hotel.

Hotel was beautiful. Had a very authentic feel. Loved the rooms. Recommend spending a few extra bucks for a room with a window/balcony that opens up to the courtyard.

The Hotel Born has the best location in Palma -- in the very center of the city, near the Passeig de Born. It also has character -- the authenticity I need to make a stay memorable. Eating your breakfast out in the courtyard, under the palm trees, is a distinctly pleasurable experience. And the building itself -- a former palace -- still retains a remnant of history, both in its public rooms and the general aura of the place. The staff treats you well, too. Stay there!

This was the first time we visited hotel Born. We were amazed that everything was as shown in the pictures. We were not disappointed about anything. The breakfast contained yoghurt, cereals, dark bread, white bread, different kinds of cheese, sausages, ham, cakes, coffees, tea and lots of other things. We were very satisfied with it. The surroundings were also great. I would definitely go back if I visit Palma again.

The hotel is certainly picturesque ( an old House from the XVIth Century if i am not mistaken ) and its location as central as you can ever wish . You can get on foot throughout the City center and that is an advantage . The minus could be the following ones : not very friendly people attending customers ; no elevator (!!) in a four-floors hotel , which is funny when you get a room at the last floors and you have a heavy luggage .. ; single rooms are ... holes (!) , still quite clean , this must be said , although in case you stay there more than one night you can expect to have your room done by ... 15:00 o'clock in the afternoon ; the price is fantastic on the other hand , if you consider the location. I would not suggest this hotel for people travelling for business reasons , as I was.

I can highly recommend a visit to Palma de Mallorca. However the Hotel Born was disappointing. The best thing that can be said about the Hotel is its location which is excellent for the city centre and buses etc. However, our room was small, dark and noisy and the bed was akin to a camping bed! The woman serving coffee at breakfast needs customer care training. If you are staying in this hotal take care to check room size and location within hotel- I suspect courtyard facing rooms are better.

We stayed three nights altogether, two of them in a room facing the back-yard. This room was much more quiet than the other. The room-standard was quite O.K. It was well kept and clean. The hotel is right in the middle of the city. It could not be better! Also, the people working at the reception desk are very kind and helpful. If you are looking for a mid-class hotel; this is it!

Really enjoyable stay. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is centrey located - within easy wlaking distance of the main sites, yet in a quiet street so you're not distrubed at night. It's clean & beautiful - would be especially great in the summer when you could eat breakfast outside in the courtyard (we went in March). The breakfast was brilliant - such a wide choice, plenty available even at the end of the session. And late breakfast finish time, 10.30, which is always a bonus when on holiday! All in all a great place to stay when in Palma.

Suite is not really offering remarkable extras. Don´t know if standard rooms are even smaller etc. Bath etc. needs renovation as well as all the hotel. Breakfast is good, also when served inside. Patio is nice. All in all ok, but the perfect location is included in the price..

This was our third visit to the Hotel Born, and we love to return. Its Mallorquin style and the grandeur of the public areas, combined with the clean simplicity of the rooms and its position in the very centre of Palma make it the perfect place to stay.

Excellent value for money - we could not believe our luck in getting such an impressive room for so little money. The hotel is ideally situated for seeing the old quarter which we would thoroughly recomend . The only downside was that the cathedral was closed when we got there at 3.00pm on a saturday afternoon. We did experience some noise around 2.00am when the owners of the property next door decided to have a " domestic" but this only lasted a few minutes and we went back to sleep. We will certainly go to this hotel again unlike the time share we spent the previous week in which delivered little of the alleged qualities that Club la Costa claimed for it.

We stayed in a double room at the back of the hotel overlooking a rather scruffy backyard. The room was a little "tired" in its decoration but perfectly clean. A problem with the shower was dealt with immediately. It was our second stay, Born caters for all ages and types of clientèle.

We have been to Palma de Mallorca four times before and found the Hotel Born by far the best hotel we have stayed in. Location was excellent, the room was clean and spacious, good breakfast. The hotel is very much "old Spain", very attractive with a lovely courtyard filled with palm trees. The hotel cost 100 euros per night which I feel is expensive for a two star hotel, however I realise this was due to the low value of the pound. I would recommend this hotel if you want a basic, clean attractive hotel with a good breakfast and in a great location.

Historical building wonderfully situated in the heart of Palma. The staff are friendly and welcoming with excellent language skills. Nothing was a problem for them. There are plenty of tapas bars around the area of the hotel - my tip would be to go in and around the small lanes in the centre to be where the locals choose to send their evenings.

Good value, excellent breakfast which can be taken in an open courtyard under palm trees. Not to everyone's taste; no lift & stair carpets are a bit threadbear, but loads of atmosphere; a grand marble entrance area.Staff are friendly & helpful

No elevator, four floors. Ask for a room at the first floor, otherwise you will be tired immediately at the beginning of your stay... Apart form this problem the hotel is very good, even though the price is quite high when considering that is is a two star hotel.

The hotel accomodated our need for a larger room when our children joined us at short notice. The square within the hotel where we ate breakfast was lovely and our room overlooked it.The only thing i would say is if you have heavy cases and you are infirm or have a buggy with young children you would struggle with the stairs as there is no lift. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay, we stayed 3 nights which was perfect for our needs before travelling to other parts of the island.Bottled water in the room would have been great there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room which i missed.

This hotel is a great one, especially in the heart of the city. Easy access to almost everywhere. It was nice staying here. The breakfast in the yard is one of the most fantastic piece of our stay. It may be difficult to find it when you arrive by car, it would be better if more guidance for first time guests is provided.
