Hotel Moderno - Palermo

Very basic breakfast - same each day. There is an air conditioning masterswitch for each room at reception. Can understand that they want it off when the room is empty but it was off two mornings when I woke and two moe after breakfast. They turn it back on request but why not just turn it off when the key is at reception? Poor shower and thin towels. In summary, it was ok for the half price deal I had but would have been very unhappy if I'd paid the full price.

The Moderno is very conveniently located with sights, restaurants and markets within easy walking distance. There is an elevator. The price was very reasonable for the location. We would stay there again.

A single smile would very pleasant at the reception desk. Good location.

Good quality/price hotel. Central situation, and quiet back yard room. Maybe light could be improved. Small window and economic lamp don't permit to read at ease on evening. In all a good choice in Palermo.

Too many stairs INSIDE the hotel, though I had choosen it because of elevator too Bathroom full of water when you take a bath. Humidity

The hotel was very handily located and good value for the price. I was disappointed that the room was very dark but that's typical of many older hotels in Italy. The breakfast wasn't up to the standard of others throughout Italy and more of an afternoon tea. Also a 2 chairs in the room were disintegarting and the shower curtain covered in mildew at the bottom. Overall the bathroom was clean though. Reasonable value for the price paid.

This hotel is a very good value and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Palermo. It is very near the train station and in a well-policed area.

I stayed here four nights and had a ball. The breakfasts were the normal sweet rolls, buy you could have as much fresh espresso/cappucino as you wanted. The staff all spoke great English and had maps, etc., of the area. My room was clean and had a beautiful tile floor. The bed was a little prehistoric, but I was so tired from walking, I slept anyway. A bit of a walk from the train station, but very centrally located for everything else. The had a nice lobby and dinning room -- for a couple, it would be very romantic.

A budget hotel, perfectly matching it's classification & ranking. Very convenient location. The rooms are basic & clean. Relatively spacious compared to many equivalent hotels I stayed in Europe and even Palermo in particular. The staff's English language skills were way above any others I encountered in other parts of Sicily and southern Italy, which was an unexpected bonus. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone interested in clean, affordable, conveniently located accommodations in central Palermo. Great value for money.

Arredamento vecchio, anni '60 un pò retrò! Letti scomodi. Ho visitato venere.com venerdi e il costo della camera era di 60 euro invece sabato notte (18 luglio) abbiamo pagato 80 euro, nonostante gli avessi prenotato in anticipo la camera di persona!

This was the first time i had been to palermo and stayed at Hotel Moderno and i have to say everything about the place and hotel was nigh on perfect. The staff were amazingly friendly, the rooms were cleaned every day and the location was perfect.

A good address but the rooms are noisy, especially in the morning.

This is a 2 star hotel the rooms were clean but very basic probably too basic for a holiday

I would definitely stay at the Moderno again. Though Palermo is noisy and chaotic, once we got into our rooms we enjoyed perfect tranquility, plenty of hot water, and the included breakfast was pretty good, with hot coffee, tea, milk, bread, nutella, etc. My room had a terrace where I was able to string a little clothesline to dry all my rinsed-out clothes. Very convenient. Consult the "Rough Guide to Sicily" for restaurant recommendations--several places in Palermo make arguably the best pizza you will ever eat, and pair it with a range of Sicilian wines. Ask the desk clerk for the free Palermo map--it was better than the map I had bought on Amazon. In general, we found that all our hotels in Italy would give out free maps that were as good as or better than what you could buy.

Handy for the city centre and for seeing Palermo, although I would say that it is more than 300m from the station! Despite the experience of some reviewers, I wouldn't have said that the area the hotel is in was any more risky than the centre of most Italian cities, so long as you are sensible. Breakfast was fine, but very little choice. The single room I had was adequate and served its purpose, but was a good example of the fact that single rooms are generally not the best ones available... The staff were frendly and helpful.

Was worried when I booked this budget hotel as it was such good value for money, I expected something to be wrong. The place was sparkling clean, the floor was shining every day, towels were changed every day (as requested) and even the sheets were changed after a few days. Asked for extra pillows and were given them too. After reading the reviews I expected to have to go out for breakfast but it was fine. Fresh baked rolls and a sweet pastry every day and then toast with butter, jam, honey and nutella- I don't know what the complaints were for. Even a pack of biscuits which we had later in the day with our coffee. Everything was individually wrapped too so no worries about who had touched it. Was worried about where to park the hire car as the hotel was very central, turns out you can park in any blue bay and just feed the meter! The meter automatically does not charge for eveings after 8pm and siesta time-smart! Only 75 cents an hour so not exactly expensive either. Tendacy to double park so you can be blocked in though. Hotel staff were great at giving advice especially which restaurants to eat in, we were there for 5 days and ate in a different place every night- each one gave a discount if you mentioned the hotel, all were fantastic.

The room, on the back side, was quiet except for some noisy late clientele. Old fashioned plumbery needed some mending to work properly! Very friendly and reliable employees. Convenient for my very short stay (one night with late arrival and early departure), not for a longer stay.

The hotel staff were very pleasant and offered us breakfast when we were leaving (even though it was past the normal time), so that made us leave on a high note. The room did smell smoky though, so was a bit uncomfortable to sleep. Very good location on Via Roma. Practically everything is within 10 - 20 mins walk.

I had a pleasant stay at the Moderno Hotel. Very easy access, all the shops and restaurants within walking distance as well as from Central Station. Hotel Staff absolutely delightful and helpful.

Good location, nice staff. 20 minute walk straight out the front door of railroad station.

Great value! Very good location. Parking is a joke. Found an illegal spot after 1 hour of looking and didn't get a ticket, that's Palermo.

The Moderno was convenient for seeing the sights of Palermo, but was located in a sparse stretch of the main street. The restaurants were 5 blocks toward the train station or 8 blocks the other direction. The lobby is on the third floor with a small elevator. It is a budget hotel without much charm.

Very nice hotel, well situated, on the main street of Palermo, a little bit noisy though but it was still ok, as we had rooms on the side of the courtyard.
