The rooms were small and missing fixtures. The shower was too small to turn around in. The two rooms we stayed in were actually horrible.

We loved our stay here - the room and balcony are huge! Close and walking distance to all the historic sites. I read alot about Palermo noise - our room was very quiet - we were on the 7th floor with soundproof windows. Palermo itself is great too - reminds me of Manhatten back home but obviously with Italian culture and history! Definitely would stay here again!

You have to check in at another hotel.. a fact that would have been useful to know in advance as it was not at all clear on arrival.. couldn't even find an entrance. Had a bad plumbing experience.. spent 20 mins trying to prevent flooding from an overflowing toilet cistern. When a guy finally showed up to fix it he was obviously no plumber and took all afternoon, during which time I was unable to shower. No apologies or apparent concern. Small and charmless room quiet from outside but right next to noisy lift. Hotel conveniently situated in a street with several porn cinemas. Plusses..the best gelateria in Sicily just round the corner. And it's not far from much nicer areas of town.

I had a single room (no 101). I must say that I was disappointed, a very bad smell in the room that made in a bad mood. Sorry, I will avoid this hotel next time visiting Palermo.

Our room was tiny - couldn't walk around the hard as a concrete slab bed without bruising your knees. The "balcony" is a closed in room - not a garden terrace and ours smelled like a cross between rotten meat and blocked drains .... as we couldn't work out where the smell was coming from, we couldn't even use that.... Location wise it's really good. Central to the good shopping, bar and cafe areas. Highly recommend the bar Tribeca next door!

The Star of this hotel is without doubt, the Cat whose purring on being fussed over can be likened to a machine gun. The room I was given had a large balcony. The room was fine, but the plumbing of the building was such that you could hear taps, showers and toliets being used in the other rooms sometimes. Internet access is available but it is in another hotel in the building which, I'm told you have to pay for. Breakfast is not provided, but the Via Roma has loads of small bars that sell food at reasonable prices. As for location, it all depends on what you want. The hotel is 20 minute walk from the main railway station or 5 minutes by bus depending on the traffic. You can see the port that takes you to other parts of Italy, Europe and Africa which is of a reasonable walking distance without loads of luggage. There are a series on internet cafes along the Via Roma, but they open only in the morning and late afternoo/evening. If you want to go to a more touristy area they are renovating the area around the Villa a Mare. But the area around the hotel, is where I observed the Sicilians go to socialise and you can meet some really interesting people. There is also the main police station nearby, so the area is relatively safe. Additionally, the main post ofice and many clothes shops are on the Via Roma.

It woould be a good hotel if the price has been a bit low. I have been in other hotles with the same price but with better service than Gardenia. The best of Gardenia is their situation, near the center, monumental zone and comercial zone.

the service was pleasant, the rooms clean and the location central but the rooms were really quite basic and very small, therefore i do think we were overcharged paying 90 euro a night in the off peak season with no breakfast etc. i wouldn't stay there again.

Really nice hotel, very helpful and friendly staff. Single room is a bit pokey (but that's usually the case). Doubles have nice terraces, which really adds to their value. There is a gorgeous old cat wandering around who seems to think he runs the place and makes sure you are behaving properly. Ideally situated. Would definitely visit this hotel again.

90 EUR for a double bed room without breakfast... Only a solution for an overnight stay. The balcony offered a great view at the wall of the opposite building. At least it was quiet, because it was situated on the 7th floor - far away from people and traffic. In the morning, on the other hand, other guests and the cleaning staff were very noisy and stopped us sleeping. Not a charming place - we would not return!

The access, security, position and service were all good. One drawback was the plumbing. The U bends on the sink and shower were not deep enough and necesitated keeping the plugs in and bathroom door firmly closed as the waters seals were not good enough and allowed sometimes allowed the smell of drains to pervade at night. Have met the same problem elsewhere.

we liked the hotel because of the really friendly welcoming, the big terrasse on the 7th floor and its situation close to the center. what we didn't appreciate very much was the smelly air in the room which may have come from the toilet or even from the air condition. after opening the big windows you can wait on the terrasse enjoying the unique sound of palermo until the air bettered. we'd go there again anyway.

Although the concierge on duty when we arrived was most helpful, I was disappointed with the room. The hot water tap did not work - no hot water. No internet point was available and the picture of the panoramic balcony is completely deceptive advertising because we were told guests are not allowed to use it. The garage charge is 5 Euros more than other hotels in the area. Also, I assumed there would be breakfast included, since it has been included in every hotel I've stayed at in Italy. The Gardenia does not offer breakfast. I asked to cancel my reservation for July 30 and 31 because we wanted to extend our stay in Sciacca and we definitely didn't want to stay at the Gardenia HJotel again. The concierge said he would allow it but Venere Internet booking service wouldn't without penalty. I emailed your customer service and was told it was entirely at the hotel's discretion. When I got back to the Gardenia Hotel, they refused to cancel my reservation without charging me the total rate. We did not return to the Gardenia. I will fight the charge on my credit card bill and I will not use Venere again for booking hotels. This was a most unpleasant experience with the Gardenia Hotel and with Venere. Stephanie Trudeau

The staff were great-really helpful. Couldn't be better. The room was fine, quiet and having a balcony was a real bonus-it was great to sit there and look over to the mountain and over the roof-tops of Palermo. The Hotel itself needs some upgrading, and looks a little drab inside. I feel we paid a little too much considering no breakfast was included.

This was our second stay at Gardenia which speaks for itself. The best things about the hotel are the terrace, its location and it's very secure. Other than that the rooms are fairly cramped and quite ordinary but the terrace makes all the difference. Good value for money, friendly staff and excellent location. We'll be back !

Excellent position for seeing Palermo. Very helpful about garaging our car.Staff very welcoming. Rooms very small and dark but we didn't spend much time in them. Noisy from airconditioner on roof clacking all night. Problems with our party being split between two floors with locked doors between, eventually overcome by internal telephone communication. Overall a good choice if you can tolerate the noise!

Perhaps you should warn guests that to access the hotel Gardenia you have to use a small lift or climb 7 flights of stairs! It is a well situated hotel close to everything, we had a twin room so there was no balcony and it would appear that the patio shown is only for one room. The room was clean with a large wardrobe, the bathroom although clean was slightly shabby and had a small shower cabinet. There is a very nice cafe over the street for breakfast the pastries are feather light!

Nice small hotel, on the top floor of a not so nice building. Location is ok, 30 minutes from the central station by foot, 10 minutes by bus. We were there in winter but the balconies must be very pleasant in summer.

I actuallyt thought my room had adequate space. In France, Spain and Italy one often gets a small "twin" bed in a single room - at gardenia it was a larger, almost double size. And there were two large, locking closets and a separate space to store a suitcase. The bathroom was not cramped at all, but the shower leaked badly - it was obvious that the slatted door could not close completely. This was an annoyance: the floor mat immediately soaked up the water and got drenched. But at least the staff ackowledged it and gave me a second mat. They also knew their way around town well, gave helpful hints and were verycompetent. They helped me make long distance calls through their system using a prepaid card, so I saved a lot of money. There are no public spaces to speak of, and the internet terminal is the reception desk's computer, at a desk just behind them. Since access was free and the connection fast, no complaints. It is a short walk from the front door to the Vucciria and other ancient parts of town.

Staff were welcoming and hotel was in a very good location. Rooms were not particularly spacious - I have the bruises from the end of the bed to prove it !! But were clean and comfortable - I'd describe them as functional rather than quaint! Best thing about the hotel room was the terrace which made a huge difference and justified the price. We plan to visit Palermo in the spring again and would book Gardinia again !

Many serious problems: - Garage is available but the owner parks your car and you must leave the keys. The price is 15 euros per days, to be paid only by cash with no receipt. The check out time is not 12am but 10:30am. Even if you came late in the night you must leave the garage at 10:30 and pay a whole day. Having left my car until 12 am, and having refused to pay one additional day, I discovered one week after having left sicily that the owner had abusively charged on my credit card 15 euros. This is not acceptable but there is nothing to do, he has the credit card number and can do whatever he wants..

We spent five good days at the Gardenia. It is in a good location in Palermo and is generally comfortable. The biggest draw is the lovely terraces which give you lots more space. There is a slight issue with noise, which carries from room to room, and the plumbing could do with an overhaul but all in all recommended.

Gardenia is a lower level hotel and if you are expecting that, your stay will be much more enjoyable. The location is really its only strong point, otherwise, you can hear everything that goes on in the entire hotel all day and all night. We were even asked to lower the volume on our television b/c everyone in the hotel could hear it. The plumbing makes a strange and very loud sound and made it impossible to sleep past 7 am. I recomend looking elsewhere for a place to stay.
