Grand Hotel et Des Palmes - Palermo

We especially liked the very good bed. Also the quietness of the room we could appreciate. Breakfast and breakfast staff was something to look forward to every day. We can definitely recommend the hotel. Palermo, the city, maybe not so. It was the dirtiest city we ever visited.

I stayed only one night in transit in the winter but I found the hotel very comfortable and spacious. I thought the Internet charges were high.

This is a charming "old world" hotel that delivers that extra touch of luxury. Its central location adds interest but means that parking is valet/off-site. The included breakfast is superior in quality, we enjoyed our 2 nights immensely.

Superb hotel, friendly staff , close to the port. I only regret the unavailability of the beautiful last floor terrace

Everything was perfect.

We got a great 'special' at the Grande Albergo e delle palme: € 76.50 per night for a double room including ample breakfast buffet, thus there is hardly reason to complain - except that a rack to set suitcases on would have been helpful in the room. And the internet point of the hotel might not have cost a minimum of € 10.- (granted, for up to sixty minutes). Parking facilities, even at €21.- per day, were extremely welcome.

This hotel has a Story; and when you arrive and are welcomed you understand why. everithing was perfect for us (my wife and I) during the 4 days we had in The Grand Hotel et Des Palmes in Palermo during august 2009; The room was nice, the bathroom too; the place where you take the petit dejeuner is full of historic ambiance; the ghost of Wagner and many other great guys are watching you and take care of your good stay

An old palace very beautiful and charming, a little bit outdated. The hall of the hotel is splendid. Spacious rooms but becareful when you do your booking, some of them are dark because they look onto the back yard (like ours).

Front desk staff dressed very well but not very helpful - thought they were a bit above everyone else. If you have a question for them be careful as you might be interfering with their time. Rooms very nice but can be noisy.

Our hotel room was HUGE--the largest I've had in Europe. The rooms were very clean, though a little worn. Best of all was a wonderful bar, with a little private room in the back of it. We were a group of four couples and, believe me, we used the bar a lot and appreciated the privacy we had with the back room. It was a lovely hotel, although frequent internet users will be disappointed.

Nice very clean rooms, noisy part of town, nice surrondings, good reception, but very, very poor breakfast with dirty do it yourself coffeemashines.

A famous and traditional hotel in the centre of Palermo and with a good atmosphere that I can recommend it to all fans of Sicily

Don't try to have your car parked in the garage before 8:00 PM on weekends. The quoted price was 15 euro, yet we were charged 18 euro. Actually they wanted us to find a parking space somewhere else even though I had requested the garage. It is a beautiful hotel.

This was once a very grand hotel that is now a bit run down. However the friendliness and efficiency of the staff more than made up for this. Our room was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was huge. The carpets on the corridors needed to be replaced. Breakfast was ok but not what you would expect in a 4 star hotel. If I was staying in Palermo again I would stay here. The valet parking was a lovely surprise and we were more than happy to be rid of the car after driving through Palermo!

A good hotel that is a bit long in the tooth and needs an overhaul. Public spaces are huge and the hoel must have been magnificent in its day. Breakfast room is quite large and choices more tham ample to vary breakfasts every day. Bar is a real gem...intimate and cosy even though it was invariably empty. The whole property seems a bit like a ghost property and there doesn't seem to be much activity. We never could figure out their restaurant schedule so we ate in other nearby restaurants which were all very good. We had a junior suite with a living room and bedroom. It overlooked the main street and there was street noise evident. That aside the rooms were quite large and a good value for money. Front desk staff was helpful though English was challenging for many of them. Fiorella was a real help. If you need anything find her. I also suggest booking side trips to visit other parts of Sicily before you travel. The hotel works with an agency that sometimes doesn't go to the sites you may wish to see when you want to go or in the event there are not enough participants. The ruins at Agrigento and Segeste are truly breath taking. The views from these sites are unbelievable as well. The medieval city of Erice is not to be missed. Our advice overall is to get out of Palermo and see the country side which is beautiful.

The first room given to us was horrible - although facing the street but it was dark in the room with old/damaged furniture. The shower was just a curtain over the floor. There was loud banging noise due to renovation. We asked to move room and the second room was quiter and a little larger, but it still has very old/damgaed furniture - the beds were nice and firm, also the sheets and towels were clean. The air-condition did not work, even though the hotel claimed that it was working. - Baking hot in the room. We stayed for 2 nights. We did asked about the newly renovated rooms and the young woman who checked us in told us that they were at a different price and they had none available! We paid for whatever rate Venere has quoted us, but were never offered a choice of new or old room rate? The rest of the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful for directions,restaurant reservation and arranging a limo for us, etc. We had another reservation by Venere for a second stay for 1 night after our visit to Lampedusa. Upon checking in this time, we insisted on having a newer room and we want air-conditioning. The male staff at the reception was very helpful and he put us in a much better appointed and newer furnished room. Still, the air-condition was making a lot of "working" sound, but no cool air has actually come out from the vent. The room was baking hot and we were hot through the night. The hotel surounding is safe and it is very centrally located for most things. It is a good hotel with good breakfast and good service, but it is a gamble for the quality of room.

Improve the service and train the employees

We enjoyed our stay. The hotel is grand and historic, and blends well with old Palermo. I would highly recommend this hotel. We did stay in the newly refurbished rooms...some are still not finished. Los Angeles, Ca

Excellent central location but tiny room with a loo that didn't flush properly and a cramped shower. Three star hotel masquerading as a four star. A much needed restoration is about to commence.

Excellent however we pay an expensive amount to park our car and they did not mentioned before that the park service is at payment

Centralissimo e accoglientissimo. costosetto ma una volta ogni tanto si può fare. nella hall si sente tutta la storia dell'hotel...colazione scarsetta. meglio un buon caffè nei bar del centro. prezzo giusto per il lusso (tramite venere crediamo scontato...noi avevamo una bella camera dal costo di 260 euro a notte e l'abbiamo pagata 109!!!!). consigliato a coppie romantiche che vogliono girare la bellissima palermo tutta a piedi (è vicino a tutto)

Precioso Hotel en el centro de la ciudad, muy cerca del Teatro Politeama Garibaldi. En general muy bueno, aunque por indicar algo que debería mejorar, el desayuno era algo escaso aunque de calidad.

An excellent old-style hotel. Often with 4 star hotels you pay higher prices to walk through a large lobby, while your room is the same as you'd get in a 2 star. Not so with this hotel -- 3 star prices for a 5 star room. We got a very large and comfortable room is very plush old-style surroundings. Excellent buffet breakfast too. Although, we had been travelling all day and when we arrived early evening with backpacks on - the receptionist was a little frosty with us, to say the least, and was giving us snooty looks afterwards. Not that we cared!

The hotel is situated in one of the main roads in palermo. The hotel was marvellous, it is a little aged, but this only adds to the wonderful, charming atmosphere for a weekend away. We love Palermo so much we've booked to go again in a few months time.

A great place to be, extreme friendly staff, nice furnished room and a good location. Real value for our money. We had a wonderful time and will surely come back to this hotel.

Das Hotel liegt sehr zentral. Ideal zur Erkundung der Stadt und der Gastronomie. Unser Zimmer war gemütlich und groß, der Service äußerst freundlich. Das Frühstücksbuffet war hervorragend. Der Shuttle vom/zum Airport kostet 30 Euro für 2 Personen (einfache Fahrt), funktioniert perfekt und man muss sich selbst um nichts kümmern. Ich würde das Hotel immer wieder buchen.

The hotel was close to perfect: Very pleasant common areas, friendly and extremely helpful staff, great breakfast buffet, excellent location close to all the sights and to the public transportation hubs. The only (small) minus was that some of the rooms were a bit noisy and some have still to be renovated. However, excellent value for money and highly recommended.

The hotel is truly grand and is well located in the centre of Palermo. The room was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. A small mix up with bags left with the consierge was quickly resolved. The low price we got through Venere made this excellent value and we would certainly return.

"This was my Second visit and I must say that I was not wrong on my first Impression.. The Service, The Staff, The Pillows were just as lovely as the first visit, should I have the opportunity I shall visit again before my job transfers. All Hotels should make their Guests feel as welcome as the Grand Hotel et Des Palmes.

Excellent hotel and very good price!

Very good hotel, elegant, well kept construction, conveniently located. Excellent price/quality ratio. Only remark is that, if you are travelling by car, the parking is about 5 blocks away, and will cost you 15 euro per day. Anyway we would definitely stay again in this hotel.

Bit noisy because of central location. Public space such as lobby,hall,bar and restaurant are very chic and gorgeous. Concierge staffs are very friendly and cooperative.

This was a good hotel overall. The highlights were: - great location - friendly staff - buffet breakfast was good Some disappointing factors were: - the whole place felt like it needed a facelift - there was a lot of maintenance going on, so it was quite noisy - the bathroom had a shower above the bath, but no shower curtain or divider, so when you had a shower, the whole bathroom would get wet But overall, it was a nice hotel at a good price

Beautiful old fashioned hotel, friendly professional staff.

They were very kind with us, giving all information we need about the city. Despite arriving very early in the morning (8 am) they let us do the check in at that moment. The best breakfast we had in Italy. Perfect.

The general rate is excellent, the welcoming as well. The location is at walk distance to the city center and this allow you to avoid the traffic noise. The noise insulation in ok with double windows but if you want to avoid the air conditioning, with the windows opened the noise is included in the offer! The rating was surely very competitive for such an hotel. Surely if we're back to Palermo we will keep this hotel in mind. During our stay we've browsed the whole city but we agree that this hotel is the best "compromise" - an excellent compromise we mean - we've found.

My stay was short however I must say from the moment I stepped through the door my cares drifted away I felt as though I had stepped back in time . I would say for me without a doubt it was the best hotel experience I have had to date. Reception was warm , inviting and very helpful.

EXCELLENT WELCOME, BEAUTIFUL AND VERY WELL SITUATED HOTEL. ANYWAY, WE HAD TO CHANGE TO ANOTHER ROOM (WHICH WAS NOT AS FINE THAN THE FIRST ONE) because the air-conditionned was not ok.
