We had a lovely night in Palermo and a great breakfast on the roof terrace, which is beautiful and the breakfast was delicious with juicy local oranges ! The hotel is in a great location, right in the centre of town, very convinient. We would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone, we slept very well and it was a lovely stay for our last night on sicily.

Good location in Palermo, close to some historic monuments and commercial activities. Good hotel and good breakfast. There is a bar on the top of the building with view on Palermo. The hotel can recommend you a parking not far to the hotel.

we had a wonderful stay at ambasciatori: the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms (we stayed several nights so ended up staying in 4 different rooms for noise reasons - more about this later)are spotless and modern, the terrace and the view from it are incredible, and the breakfast, though not perfect, is one of the best we've had in italy. the only downside is that the hotel has most of its rooms onto one of the main streets in palermo, so the noise from traffic can be really unbearable. we changed several times until we got the perfect room, which had no view at all, but at least was completely silent. this is definitely something you should be aware of if you need a minimum of quiet to sleep properly. on the plus side, the staff really accommodated our needs by changing our room several times and never made us feel like we were a nuisance.

The hotel was lovely and the staff very helpful and gracious. The view from the patio was spectacular!!! The room was comfortable and nicely furnished. Our first room was a very large remodeled room at the front of the hotel which was too noisy for us. Once we changed rooms to the rear,a smaller room but still very spacious, it was very quiet. We highly recommend this hotel in this neighborhood. Cocoa Restaurant was delicious and nearby, a recommendation from the staff. Our stay was only two nights, just enough for the city of Palermo. The hotel exceeded our expectation and was a fair price.

enjoyed my stay at this hotel. the room was OK, the breakfast on the terrace was absolutely lovely meaning both the food and the view. within working distance to most places of interest. my only problem was that my room faced some side street which was very noisy at night. if you have sleeping problems, ask for a quieter room.

The Ambasciatori was one of the best hotels in our two week stay in Sicily. It is a great value and I would most certainly stay there again. It was about a four block walk from the central train station. The room was clean and spacious with a nice bathroom & shower. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. The coup de grâce was the fantastic rooftop terrace with a panoramic view of the Palermo skyline. Breakfast was served there, and the Ambasciatori also had a cocktail hour there starting at around 18:00. We would occasionally wonder up to the terrace in mid-day just to soak in the view and ambiance.

Two nights at this hotel. Rooftop breakfast room, sun terrace and bar are terrific with wonderful views. Rooms are on 1st, 3rd and 5th floor (main reception and stairs to terrace). Very small lift. Nice room, but had to ask on two occasions for the loud piped pop music from speakers in the hallway to be turned down, which they did. Breakfasts good. Very central, especially for railway station and buses. Friendly staff.

Our first time at the Hotel Ambasciatori and would definitely recommend it. Reception desks were well staffed and extremely helpful, with excellent English. Our room, a twin, was large and comfortable with a great bathroom/shower. The most unique feature was the large roof terraces from which we could see (and photograph) the whole city. Lovely for breakfast (which was good) and wonderful for hanging out to recover from jetlag.

This hotel was awesome. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They all spoke very good English. The door man were very helpfully and spoke to us about places to go, travelling arrangments etc etc. The rooms are very big (so is the bathroom). There are members of staff around 24/7. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choices which did vary from day to day. They have internet facilities that you can pay for (however they let me on for a fair while for free as long as nobody else needed it) I cant say anything remotely bad about the hotel except for the fact that one time using the safe the door jammed on me which a member of staff fixed immediately. The air conditioning was maybe a little weak too. The best thing about this place was its roof terrace with a 360 degree panaramic view of Palermo. It included a bar (open from 7pm-1 am). This is also where breakfast is served (although you can have it delivered to you on room service on request). One night we were they even had a jazz concert for free. The surrounding area was very good. The main train station is ten minutes walk (you can also get a coach to the airport from here) and there are plenty of resturants (try and find il proverbio) and shops nearby. The hotel is deffinatley value for money!!

Thanks to the extraordinary friendly staff we 3 had a great time in Palermo - the roof garden and our room Nr. 501 is wonderful, the hotel is located in a 5 minutes walking distance to the station, the transfer busses to the airport and the next stop of the "hop on -hop off-city sightseeing tourbus" (Viator). I can recommend this hotel to everybody! Visit Mondello, Cefalu ans the Etna!

We stayed at this hotel for five days in June 2010. This is a great hotel, with very clean, well appointed rooms, very clean, albeith small bathrooms, wonderful reception and extraordinary rooftop terrase. We were very pleased with our atay at this hotel. The only thing I didn't like was the small, cagelike elevator. I was scared to use it. Palermo is OK for very few days,( may be 2)I didn't like it that much. The dirt, neglect, stray animals, begging of pregnant women, kids , little old ladies was jut too much to bear. Also we felt the horses used in the carts are abused as they are not given water all day ,standing there in the blazing heat; we saw foam coming from their mouths due to thirst. Of course, this not the hotel's fault, but dampened our overall impression of the city. We liked Catania much better.

The Ambasciatori was wonderful and convenient, within walking distance of the train station and located on the Via Roma, one of the main shopping streets. The room was lovely and had a great view of the Palermo skyline, since the hotel itself is on the fifth and sixth floors of what seemed to be an office building. What I really loved was the rooftop garden and patio, where there was a bar open in the evening and where a fantastic breakfast was served in the morning. You had a panoramic view of the city from here. The staff was as nice as could be and made Palermo a most enjoyable stay for us.

Wow, just the most terrific value and experience. Stunning spired panorama from room and rooftop breakfast area. Staff all go beyond the call of duty. Huge bed, and could pick up (non hotel?) wifi near the window. Location is handy to train station and the various markets. On a busy road, but walk the alleys such as the one directly across the street for colorful and relaxed sightseeing.

This is a really excellent little hotel. Easy to find on one of Palermo's most exclusive shopping streets and within five minutes walk from the railway station (longer from the ferry port - say 25 mins - but there is a bus), the hotel is spread across several floors of a mixed use building (but do not let that put you off). Rooms are clean, tastefully decorated, well equiped and generally quiet despite the constant hustle and bustle from the busy streets outside. The highlight is, of course, the roof-top terrace and breakfast bar with it's view of Palermo's skyline but all the public areas are of a high standard (including a well stocked bar). Importantly, the welcome from the staff matches the quality of the hotel. It is a real pleasure to be greeted by someone who a) knows your name and b) knows that you are expected. Service at breakfast was equally impressive and the continental breakfast much more substantial than you find in many hotels. Overall, a real gem of a small hotel and one I would definitely stay at again if I ever return to Sicily.

We stayed six days at the Ambasciatori and were quite satisfied. Rooms are quite big and clean, location is excellent and staff very polite and helpful. Minus: some rooms are quite noisy. Plus: the bill was less than we expected! We'll stay at the Ambasciatori again if we go back to Palermo (a very nice city, by the way).

Excellent service, breakfast quite good (although the beverage limit seemed oddly stingy). We were given a very spacious room. The internet didn't work on our floor, so we had to take the laptop to the reception area in order to get wireless. This was somewhat inconvenient. Terrace was amazingly beautiful, and functional even in the rainy weather due to a glass enclosure. Staff was knowledgable and very accommodating.

I usually like the simple but pleasant decor of rooms and good location of Ambasciatori hotels. Most of the hotels in Sicily had a small shower space with a plastic curtain, but Hotel Ambasciatori had a big space and glass doors. The breakfast room on the top offers a great view of the city, but the breakfast choices were fewer than I had expected. As I had to leave the hotel early, I missed the breakfast on the last day of my stay. Liberty Hotel in Catania delivered coffee, fruit and yogurt, to our room when we had to leave very early in the morning without charging extra. All hotels where my daughter and I stayed in Sicily including four star hotels did not have an automatic kettle or a thermos in the room. It would be nice to have one for tea drinkers.

The hotel was really well located for the train station (10 minute walk maximum). It was located on a busy main thoroughfare which was good for shops less so for restaurants. Our's was an overnight stop-over with not a lot of time to explore Palermo, so we stayed within walking distance of the hotel. Off the beaten track isn't recommended after dark so suggest you have a destination and map in hand or stay on the main streets. The lonely planet recommended restaurant which is 2 minutes from the hotel was closed on a Saturday evening which required a hasty plan B. The roof top terrace of the hotel is magical. Pre-dinner drinks and breakfast out there is a must. Overall it was a really good hotel with well appointed rooms.

Hotel Ambasciatori, situated on the popular street of Via Roma a few blocks away from the main street of Via Vittorio Emanuele, is an easy, less-than-10-min walk from the main train station, Quattro Canti, Cattedrale, and Museo Archeologico (all from which you can catch local transportation and/or sightseeing buses to other major landmarks). The hotel is new and elegantly decorated. Like most European boutique hotels, the bathrooms are smaller and the rooms dimmer than American and/or chain hotels; however, the room itself was enormous, and both the room and bathroom were very clean. Two things that made me fall absolutely in love with the hotel were 1) the beautiful terrace overlooking the city and 2) the bountiful complimentary breakfast. I was in Palermo for only one night (the first destination of my trip through Italy) but wished I had stayed 2-3 days longer. Hotel Ambasciatori was a luxurious, 5-star hotel experience at an unbelievably low 3-star hotel price, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling to Palermo.

We were given the room with the view on the WALL on the first floor instead of a triple room with the nice view on the top floors, despite of the fact that we made a reservation 3 months before and asked for this in the letter. The room was nicely decorated, but very dark and it was not in fact a triple room, what we booked, but double with additional bed, being "sticked" directly to the king size bed, limiting the space in the room. The reception told me that they do not pay attention to the requests from the booking time, but gives the rooms by chance!!! The more so, the man at the downstairs reception (main reception is situated on5th floor), in fact being person welcoming guests is not the right person on this place. He is rude and gives a bad first impression on the hotel. Persons working at the 5th floor reception are nice and seems competent, however the change of the room was not possible. A big strength of this hotel is a roof terrace - really splendid with amazing panorama of Palermo. For this terrace it is worth to stay there, however you should make sure that the right room will be provided, may be calling the hotel additionally on this purpose.

First of all let me say yhat this is an excellent value for what we paid which was 105 euro/night. The hotel is well located, very clean and well maintained. It's roof top terrace is a beautiful place to have breakfast or to have a cocktail and relax. The downside: The Ac was not working yet which made sleeping a bit sticky with the windows open. There was much traffic noise and loud voices well into the night which could plainly be heard coming up the interior courtyard. Breakfast was marginal and understaffed for the number of people. This made for a rather sour waitstaff who were unable to keep the buffet replenished, clear tables and serve coffee adequate to the need. An oddity; signs clearly posted only one coffee per person without extra charge. This was actually OK because the coffee was only marginal at best. We would go out after breakfast to have an excellent coffee nearby. Although I don't recommend Palermo as a great destination, the hotel was a very good value at this bargain price.

There is no parking on Via Roma where the hotel is located and nearby parking is difficult, though possible, to find. And remember, there are no washclothes provided in the bathrooms in most italian hotels. And there were no bath towels available on our arrival...just smaller towels. A very good breakfast buffet on the terrace or in a room just off the terrace.

Frühstück italienisch, also gut.

We enjoyed staying at the Ambassadors. We spent New Years Eve 2009 there and were able to view a beautiful display of fireworks from the roof/terrace of the hotel. The view of Palermo from the rooftop was spectacular since the building is one of the tallest ones in that area. The staff was also very helpful with useful suggestions.

Nice hotel within easy walking distance of main bus station. Very creaky old lift to get to the hotel as it sits above shops. Good location and helpful staff. Recommended.

The roof-top terrace for breakfast was a treat; the views were truly spectacular. The hotel itself is located on the upper floors and a small old lift has to be taken from the downstairs lobby to access the hotel itself. A previous correspondent noted that he asked the hotel to book a one-way taxi to Palermo airport, was quoted 50 Euros and then charged more. We did the same thing, asked the hotel to confirm the price (three times), the hotel assured us that this was the guaranteed price, and then the cab driver tried to charge more saying he had made a single trip! We only paid the agreed 50 Euros (we only had this cash visibile out of the wallet)and he backed down. On the final morning of our stay the hotel was preparing to be used as a wedding venue. This meant that staff were unable to cope during breakfast (drink orders failed to arrive) etc...

We were delighted with the hotel. It was classy, quiet and clean. Staff were very helpful. The roof garden is great. The location near the train station on a major street was very safe and though not central, it allowed us to easily get into and out of Palermo without using taxis. My only caution is that stall shower is quite small and large people might have difficulty using it.

The summer breakfast terrace on the roof is the best place in the hotel - the view from it onto the city is marvellous. The staff is friendly. Reception is on the 5th floor - unusual. The location is pretty convenient for sightseeing. The room was spacious however very plain and not very cozy. In the corridors there was a specific smell of an old building. Via Roma is a wide street, quite dirty (however it seemed typical for Palermo) with heavy traffic. But on the whole the stay was nice. The view from the roof is worth staying here!

Hotel is in a fantastic location - walking distance to all markets, most of the sites you'd want to visit and on a very good, easily accessible shopping street. The rooftop terrace is unbelievable for breakfast or for just sitting around (but who has time?). Most of the staff was courteous and helpful enough, although breakfast service was a bit frosty. Would absolutely return if ever in Palermo again.

We had a room on 5th floor which had a very nice view and was reasonably quiet, given that the hotel is in the middle of the city. The location is very central and walking distance to the major sights. Breakfast is nothing special (the usual Italian standard), but the rroftop terrace is a real treat. There's free parking in a side treet around the corner.

Our room was spacious and comfortable, and we loved the roof-top terrace. Breakfast and late afternoon drinks on the terrace were a highlight of our stay in Palermo. All of the staff were exceptionally helpful with information and tips on dining and sights and travel. If I ever make it back to Sicily I will stay here, and have already recommended the Ambasciatori to other friends.

We were very pleased with the location of the hotel on Via Roma among all the best shopping. It was also convenient for the 'sights' and for restaurants. The roof terrace was a terrific bonus as it was a really pleasant place for breakfast and operated as a bar at night. Service was very good and the room comfortable. It was surprisingly quiet given the central location of the hotel. Parking was not provided, but we were directed to a nearby 'garage' where the rates were reasonable.

Stunning roof terrace for breakfast(excellent!) , sunbathing and relaxing is the outstanding feature of this htoel, setting it way above its surroundings. The quiet and lovely views combined with the hotel's central location are a real bonus in this noisy busy city.

Very pleasant hotel for a short stop in Palermo. Near station (300yds) and harbour 5-6 mins walk. On 5th & 6th floor so lift is a must! but the rooftop terrace, used for drinks & breakfast is beautiful with stunning panoramic views. One attached was not in best weather.

We had a two night stay in the Ambasciatori in June, the room was large, slightly sparce, and had no view, having said that it was clean, very functional, and typically Italian. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. (these maybe the only people you hear with such a command of English here )The hotel is in an excellent position to visit the sights of Palermo, we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. I must of course mention the roof terrace, which is possibly the most stunning breakfast setting, certainly in a city that we have ever had, and reason alone to stay at this hotel. there is also a second roof terrace with very comfortable sunbeds, which we were glad of after walking around Palermo for seven hours! It's a lovely place to relax after a long day. If we re-visit Palermo I would definitely stay again. I notice several people have commented on feeling nervous or slightly threatened in Palermo, but we didn't, maybe its because we are from a large city ourselves. We loved it here, it doesn't have any airs or graces, and neither do its people, it is dirty in parts, but the architecture and the feel of hundreds of years of history more than make up for the litter.

We have just spent 4 nights at the Ambasciatori in June 08. Had a great time. The upstairs terrace completely lived up to it's reputation - perfect start to each day before hitting the streets of Palermo. Our room was on the 5th floor at the back, well insulated from most noise others spoke of. Room was charming and light with good rooftop views. Bathroom small but spotless. Our compliments to the staff - they booked restaurants for us even in Rome (at no charge!) as our Italian is very limited. Wait staff at breakfast were terrific too. At night you will need to buzz from the street to be let in. This was never a problem even though we tended to arrive back after midnight. We found the city felt safe and loved the architecture, the markets, the food and the locals' sense of fun. Our favourite restaurant was Nabucco - very close. The appertiser of black olives, broccoli, lobster and tomato jelly had us back for seconds! Something to note - the Capella Palatina is currently closed for renovations. Don't be deterred though, the rest of the Palazzo dei Normanni is still open and is fabulous.

We arrived at this hotel having been in the air for 23 hours to a warm welcome from the reception staff. The hotel was within walking distance of the train station and in a central location for sight seeing. The breakfast on the roof top terrace was "second to none" and staff recommendation for eating at San Andrea(a bit tricky to find at first) was excellent. Our only disappointment was we failed to book an extra night for our return to Palermo but the staff managed to get us an alternative at Hotel Moderno which wasn't nearly as good.

I've been to Palermo twice now, and I've enjoyed it very much. This hotel was great value, and the rooms are much larger than expected. The hotel is conveniently situated very close to the train station. The staff are very helpful, and there is a beautiful rooftop terrace, which is a nice place to sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy the view of the city. I would highly recommend that anyone visiting Palermo consider this hotel.

Third time at this hotel and the standards are as high as ever. Very professional staff, lovely room overlooking Via Roma and the old town. Big bonus is the roof terrace where you have breakfast and can relax in the evening with magnificent views of the city one way and the sea the other. Breakfast is varied and fresh and even the coffee is proper coffee. Excellent location, near the station and the historic centre.

This hotel has several great strengths, and a few weaknesses. The strengths include an excellent location on one of the main streets of Palermo--Via Roma--surrounded by attractive clothing shops and fairly close to several tourist destinations. The 16 rooms, most on the fifth floor of a large building, are fairly new, very clean and attractive, and medium in size. The hotel's roof garden, where breakfast is served, is stunning--a real winner! The staff is friendly, speaks English, and is moderately helpful with sightseeing advice. There are a few factors which will be negatives for some. First, this is more like a B&B than a hotel--no large public spaces except for the roof garden. Second, a negative for the not-too-mobile, breakfast is 32 steps up from the fifth floor to the 7th floor roof garden. Third, access to the 5th floor B&B depends on one rather old-fashioned elevator, which works fine but sometimes gets held up on other floors. Late one evening, returning to the hotel after dinner, I waited and waited on the elevator, which never came. That's how I can tell you that there are exactly 125 marble steps from the ground floor up to the 5th floor lobby and rooms! (The elevator didn't work because someone had neglected to firmly close the door.) The hotel has a good price-value ratio, clean attractive rooms, and a good location, and will be appreciated by most guests. However, those with mobility issues or those wanting more in the way of public rooms and service may want to splurge on one of the outlying luxury hotels.
