The first impression of the place wasn't good, and it didn't help we were given a tour from the so-called car park (beware of the HUGE potholes that could easily ruin the underside of your car) into the premises through a foul-smelling kitchen/back office and then out of the front door into the property next door (this guest house is actually two properties, next to each other). The whole place smelled of damp (and worse...). The room decoration and furnishing were old and old fashioned. Not very good mattress in the bed (if you care for your sleep). Bearable for a night, but not really good value for money, and definitely would not recommend it. For a bit more you can stay in a nice 4* hotel and not this smelly place.

No recommended, it is not a hotel. It could be select as the last alternative. Beds are OK for sleep one ninght, however bathroom and towels …. (better no describe them) Best: It is very close to the center of Oxford; and there is not carpet and the floor was clean In breakfast you can find some actors for Almodovar films…

Even other people told us the quality of b&b in Oxford isn't high, this one is really ugly. Dirty rooms, dirty kitchen (with about 5 cats around - and I love cats). No one of us dared to take a shower (sorry for whom we met!!). The worst way for us to end our wonderful English holidays...

If you just want to stay somewhere with a roof over your head than the nanford guest house is an excellent choice. The staff did not welcome us or not even tried to talk to us (there where two maybe one had a bad day). The bathroom was way to small to even change clothes in it but was clean though. We could not open any windows and the view out of the window was on a backyard filled with rubbish, overfilled wastebins and broken stuff and the whole house smelled after what was in there. Conclusion: Although everything seems broken and old, it was clean and staff seems very flexible and tolerant .

Lots of people reviewed about the smell of rooms and cleanliness - this wasn't a problem for us at all. Room smelled fine and was well cleaned. The location is on the far side of town from the train station, but it's not that far from the center of town - maybe a 15 minute walk so pretty convenient. The breakfast was superb and filling for quite awhile. All considered, it seems to deliver pretty good value.

I have been there for one night and it has been enough, I hope never coming back. It seems we were hosted by Thénardier family like in the "Miserables" novel(Victor Hugo)

You get what you pay for - a cheap and ok room with a good location + an EXCELLENT breakfast! Parking workes as well. WLAN didn't, but we didn't make any attempts to get it fixed either... If you're not too picky and looking for a place to stay in Oxford, this is it :D

I choose this place because of its cheap price and location. It's within 10 minutes walk of city center. The breakfast is quite good, I was surprised! Now the bad things... When I read the reviews, I said to myself it can't be that bad... When I enter my room, the smell was awful and the cleanness is ok. The most annoying thing is the smell. Fortunately, I get used to it after a while so I can sleep! For 1 night maybe 2 max it's ok. But I can't imagine myself staying more than that. As the owner says, you get what you paid for.

No fire escape although several people staying in house. Very shabby surroundings with brown patches on ceilings/pictures on walls stuck with cellotape. Shower plug blocked (we think with old hair.)Back garden full of rubbish.Walls very thin so occupants next door chatting kept us awake until 4am. Location excellent. Good breakfast.

This hotel gets terrible feedback, but it is VERY cheap. I think a lot depends on what you are used to and what you're expecting. The breakfast was great - full english breakfast, plus juice, fresh fruit, cereal, pastries etc. Room was clean and functional (ensuite with tv). Staff were very helpful - my car battery went flat and they charged it for me during the day! But the place is very run down. The corridors do smell - damp rather than pee. The bed was old and matteress saggy. Because of the low price it does attract poorer people, but i found them 'colourful' rather than a problem. Overall if you want fantastic value for money and a great breakfast to set you up for the day, i'd recommend this. If you want the Ritz add a zero to the cost and go somewhere else...

What a dump! More like a hostel for the homeless than a hotel. Grubby, smelt of urine and wet dogs. I felt dirty by just being there and this feeling did not leave me for hours after I had left the place. Never again!

The room I was given was spacious, but very disgusting. There was mold on the ceilings, there were stains on the carpets, and the linens and towels looked 30 years old. The staff was not particularly friendly. When I arrived, there were crumbs on the table, and the glassware was not clean. The cleaning staff did not replace the dirty glasses with new and clean ones (after 6 nights!), and didn't seem to understand me when I asked specifically that they replace the glasses after I had already been in the room for several nights.

Definitely an A+ for ambiance. The rooms are cozy and clean, if a bit shabby. The hot-water pot with tea and coffee selection in the room is a welcoming touch, and the breakfast provided is substantial and served in a charming dining room with fellow travellers. We were given new towels every day. The walk into town takes about ten minutes (for us, no big deal). My one big complaint was the shower; there is no water pressure, and the shower is too small to turn around in without being sprayed in the eye. Definitely don't plan on taking "a quick shower" before heading out; plan on it taking a significant amount of time. Also, the mattresses were in pretty rough shape - I'm normally not picky at all, but the springs poking me in the back were very uncomfortable. Luckily there were extra beds in the room, so I was able to put another layer of blankets between myself and the springs.

Old building and old rooms, have charm, though mattress felt old too! Glad to have some free parking- choice of street (not always available though we got out space) and back (more spaces, but can be parked in, not good if leaving early in morning).
