Spent 3 days here, great base for touring if you want to be away from the beaten track. A little out of the way, but you can take the bus to Orvieto nearby. Helpful and friendly staff and superb value for money if you want to see this place on a budget.

This hotel is too far away from the town of Orvieto to walk and there are not too many restaurants nearby. Therefore you either drive and park in the city (difficult) or take a taxi (expensive). We used the hotel restaurant on one night and had a very average meal with overpriced wine. Overall not a good place for a tourist to Orvieto.

Very quiet hotel very close to Orvieto (5mins by car), the room was large, quiet and clean, breakfast was also very good. We had a room with a wonderfull from bottom on Orvieto. Very good value for money, I would go back again.

Everything was OK (location, splendid view on the village of Orvieto), except the welcoming & the employee at the reception desk

My husband and I enjoyed our stay. We were impressed by the size of the room/bath and that it had two balconies that overlooked the city. I will say that the shower was very small, so if you have a bigger figure, you may find showering difficult. We enjoyed being off the road, the hotel was very quiet (off-season). Our room was the first near the stairs, so that could get a bit noisy - being a very light sleeper, I always travel with earplugs. The restaurant was decent. You have to try the lard spread - yum! My husband ordered a steak - DELICIOUS - and I decided to try truffles for the first time. My pasta was very salty and tasted very earthy. I think it was the truffle paste. (I had again in town, and it was much better.) Service was great, and there were a few people who spoke English. Overall, good stay and a good price!

If you don't have a car, don't stay here. There are a very surprisingly punctual buses to Orvieto from the bus stop nearby, but not so frequent and they stop running after 9pm. A taxi to or from Orvieto to the hotel costs 15-20 euros! Nice place, friendly staff, but not so convenient.

An excellent hotel - I enjoyed my stay here. Not in as good a position as some, being in a lower area of Orvieto,so not enjoying the panoramic views of those on the top of the cliff, but then their prices reflect this. Nevertheless it is very pleasantly situated, quiet, and I still had nice views of hillsides & vineyards from my bedroom balcony. Large car-parking area. Huge comfortable lobby.Very helpful and friendly staff. A large well-appointed bedroom with a good-sized en-suite. Arguably this hotel should be designated 4star rather than 3(it was certainly more worthy of being 4star than one actual 4star I stayed in). Brilliant value for money - I'd certainly stay here again.

Spookey hotel, very empty in the middle of June. No nice surroundings, not walking distance to Orvieto, you need a car (large parking). Poor breakfast. I will not be back.

We had a good stay and the dinner in the restaurant was good. The one downside is that there were some ants in the room in the morning feasting on a candy wrapper one of my kids left on the floor. This surprised because the room was generally clean.

Upon entering the city, there were signs guiding us to the hotel. The rooms were excellent and very clean. The hotel was very close to the top of Orvieto. Everyone was very friendly and the Foor in the Dining Room was very good.

Hotel was immaculate. Very nice entrance with marble and circular staircase. Appeared to be some sort of retreat used by an organization, but not sure. Hotel was almost empty for some reason. We were there in August. Very friendly staff. Our room had a balcony. I think most or all do. The surrounding area is a little odd with a ruined building at the front drive, but it appeared to be a safe area.

The hotel was difficult to find - perhaps they should offer more help when a booking is made. Even with helpfrom locals it took some time to find them. The restaurant served good, tasty food but the choice was very limited. Having ordered from the menu we were then told what was available - and that was not much! The only vegetables were tomatoes. Breakfast was very poor indeed.

Very difficult to find, especially at night. We finally had to stop some caribinieri and ask for help, and it took someone's leading us there to find the place. We had asked for twin rooms but received doubles. After a good deal of discussion, we were moved to "twins," which translated into a double bed plus a cot. Tough when two adults are sharing a room but don't want to share a bed.

Spacious and quiet hotel (far away from the railroad noise, what you have absolutly to take care in this area), pleasant staff, good rooms for this price. Windows and blinds need some maintenance. Breakfast included and sufficient. Pleasant diner and cheaper than in Orvieto, some kilometers away. Good idea for a stop ...

The room was good and Filippo at breakfast was a star, cheerful and friendly. Unfortunately we discovered that both nights we were there, the Michelin Guide restaurant was shut and we were given no explanation as to why, just told 'chiuso'. As Sferracavallo is quite small and Orvieto a steep climb uphill (we were not in a car) finding food was difficult.

Located in a semi-industrial area but within easy access to Orvieto. We must have arrived at the end of the season (3rd weekSept) because the hotel was virtually empty and the restaurant was closed except for breakfast.

Room was nice. Bathroom was large and it was nice to have a triple with a separate room for the second bed. However, the restaurant was closed and since the hotel is outside of the city and there aren't nice restaurants within walking distance, it would have been nice to know ahead of time. It appears that the hotel is really meant for conventions or large groups so maybe they only use the restaurant for special occasions. I would recommend the hotel as a good budget option for people with a car and are comfortable driving into Orvieto for dinner. If you are relying on public transportation I would contact the hotel ahead of time to find out about your options.

This is a lovely hotel. It is a bit difficult to find, as it is in a residential neigborhood off the central road. When we first arrived, I was concerned that there were no other cars in the parking lot, but the room was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated, and the hotel staff were very nice. The following morning, I noted two large bus loads of hotel guests had arrived after us. It is a good hotel for tour groups as they have good parking. The English of desk staff was generally modest, although one young lady at the desk was very good. Although not far beyond Orvieto, it is important to get the hotel to fax directions to the hotel as they are in a suburb slightly beyond Orvieto and the road was somewhat difficult to find. I had to call for direction as their web site lacks direction to the hotel. They faxed direction immediately on request, which was very helpful.

This is a modern hotel in a quiet setting. We were surprised to be almost the only guests staying there. The rooms have complicated electronic sensors and even though we finally figured out how to adjust the room temperature, the AC never worked. The manager was very friendly.

This hotel exceeded our expectations on all counts. Located in the valley about 2 KM's below the hill-town of Orvieto but with easy access. The hotel did not serve lunch or dinner but the morning breakfast of rolls, ceral, meats and coffee was excellent. The staff was particularily helpful especially the daytime desk manager, Dunato. Ample auto parking in an urban setting made for a quiet restful stop while being close to important tourist attractions. Public transportation wasn't close-by, so personal transportation or being part of a tour group was essential. Otherwise a great place at a reasonable price.

We had booked for 3 but we were only 2 so the desk employee gave us a twin, without telling us!We refused it because the price was the same! Then he gave us a room for 4... but the blinds didn't work: one was down and could go up, the other one was up and couldn't go down. So we woke up with the sun and had no privacy because the curtains didn't work either! As for the desk employee, his English was worse than our Italian... We even had to help German tourists because the employee was not able to understand their questions! We won't go back to this hotel, that's for sure!

We liked this so well we made reservations a week later for friends. Pictures on web site not as pretty as the hotel actually is. Directions could be clearer (or map showing Sferrocavallo/exact locatio). Outstanding value.
