An amazingly beautiful hotel, it felt like we were staying in a palace. We found champagne and chocolates in our room on arrival and the room was luxuriously decorated, with lots of 'extras' such as slippers and dressing gowns, and a choice of beautiful smelling soaps. Our stay was expensive but worth it if you need a treat. The staff were all, without exception, quietly attentive and very helpful - the waiters patiently took the time to explain every inch of the dinner menu to my partner, who has a restricted diet, and the receptionist even let us use her computer to check in our flight home. Dinner was very expensive, with tiny portions of perfectly presented, tasty food. The only thing that was slightly disgruntling was the length of time it took room service to bring us some food one evening - an hour. We were starving by the time it arrived. I wish I had had time to try some of the spa treatments. The hotel is a short walk from Orta San Giulio town, and there seems to be a little road train that runs up and down regularly if you don't want to walk. Orta San Giulio itself is small and a little touristy, but quiet, pretty and definitely worth a short visit of a day or so.
