For a short culture-trip this hotel is nice. Unfortunatly the traffic noise is quite loud. The hotel is clean and neat. Better take breakfast in a cafe nearby.

Great location and great front desk personnel. However, the bed felt like you were sleeping on cardboard and the bathroom was wayyyy to small. Showering was an ordeal because the shower was so small

The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. They always put themselves out to speak to us and informed us of attractions in the city. The room was 'ok' although basic. The bed was small and the pillows (1 each) poor quality. The bathroom facilities were also fairly basic. We felt that 8euros for continental breakfast was expensive. The location for the centre of Nimes is good. Overall, an enjoyable stay.

We passed through Nimes on our way through France and stayed at Acanthe du Temple for only one night but found the staff very friendly and enjoyed the hotel's central location. Eric, a staff member, deserves a 10+ when it comes to customer service. After checking out of the hotel and leaving Nimes, I realized that I had left my mobile phone behind. I emailed the hotel and Eric was extremely helpful in finding my phone and shipping it to me. What the hotel may lack in luxury and room spaciousness it more than makes up for in customer service. Highly recommended.

Reception staff were excellent and helpful. Hotel is on edge of the old town, so really good location. Slightly difficult to drive to because of the one way system, but there are signs - so follow them! Didn't have breakfast, so can't comment on common rooms.

Felt strange to eat near to reception in full view of any one who might come in. I think that a breakfast room would have been appropriate. Unfortunately I did not enjoy Nimes. Very expensive indeed, but I thank Eric for trying to give us a nice stay.

The hotel was very welcoming, all the staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was pleasant, though it had no view as we looked over the side street to the wall of an old building, and was a bit noisy in the early morning with road cleaning etc. However you could shut the double glazed window, which was effective, and have the fan on to keep cool. We had breakfast every day, which was plentiful-toast,croissants,bread,yogurt,preserves,a selection of cheeses, fruit juice, tea and coffee. We could have had more if we wanted. At 8 euros not the cheapest, but very convenient, and always served with a smile. Monsieur spoke good English,Madame not as good, but she appreciated us trying out our basic French, and we got by.She told us about some restaurants,as we arrived on a Sunday and a lot were shut in the evening. The hotel is in a convenient location for the old town and we walked everywhere. We enjoyed our stay there very much,we would stay there again, and thought our room at 60 euros per night was good value.

We were wary of this hotel when we realized that it was listed in the "budget" section of our guidebook. But, it was great. The room was comfortable, staff were friendly and breakfast affordable. That said, there is no elevator. Ample storage space made up for the small room.

We chose to stay in this hotel based on the customer reviews on this site, and I'm glad we did! It's a lovely hotel, in a great location (close to the town centre and the main sites!) Many of the previous guests had mentioned how friendly the staff are, and they really are very welcoming and helpful! Probably the friendliest staff I've come across in a hotel. We had a double room which was spacious and had every thing we could need. The breakfast was good too. A great hotel for a 2 star! Would definitely stay there again.

Nice typical older style French family run hotel. Good room and friendly service. Helpful. Good location in city. Excellent value. Would stay again. Visited in mid-September 2009. Recommend Nimes as a good city visit plus pleasant surrounding countryside and places to visit. Good train and bus services. Also easy to get to coast. Ryanair fly in locally with good airport bus link. No need to hire a car.

The only really negative thing we have to say about this hotel is that the Madame is EXTREMELY opinionated. We had arrived on our bikes and had left our luggage outside, in plain sight. Before we were permitted to have our room key we were ordered by Madame to go and get our luggage because there were thieves everywhere! Also, she made a rather derogatory remark about our way of packing and looking after our stuff in general, in French, hoping that we wouldn't understand. Much to her chagrin I did. Wont be going back. Otherwise if you can deal with Madame, the room was lovely, the husband enjoys telling confusing French jokes - so be prepared to act amused - and the situation is ideal. Across the street however is a place called the 'Cat Hotel' which is cheaper and you don't get advice that you don't need!

This typically family run hotel was very clean and tidy - we had no problems with noise etc. excellent glazing and shutters. Fan was excellent-low noise and cool in the night after the very hot days. All bathing facilities were top class - T.V. if reqd. Only slight downside in some peoples eyes may be - no tea / coffee making facilities - but lots of French residences do not offer this as there are so many cafe / bars around. Ideally situated for all of the local tourist attractions and shops/bars. The route to the Hotel from the airport is straightforward enough if driving , although we were happy to use the airport shuttle ,located to the right of the airport exit doors and which we found to be very reasonable and reliable ( the most local stop for the Hotel is just 3 -4 mins walk away on Gambetta. ) Eric (the owner ) is excellent - nothing is too much trouble and his wife although non English speaking is a very lovely lady- we had some fun attempting to recall G.C.E "O"level French to chat to her about breakfast etc. We would definitely recommend this Hotel to anybody who visits Nimes.

It's very difficult to park. We spent about an hour trying to find a space, there is a garage but it's ~10 euros per night. Also we waited a little for the receptionist to pay the bill in the morning (having rung the bell), no problem but he finally arrived and complained to us that he hadn't been called. Night watchman was however very friendly & helpful.

We would like to mention that we chose this hotel based on the rate/ rank given by the reviewers at venere and so it was really helpful, and we did the right choice. So thanks for you all and for Venere. We stayed at Acanthe temple hotel in Nimes in the end of February for a night. The hotel is 5-10 mintues walking distance from the train station, and it is very easy to find. We were received by Eric and he was extremely helpful, polite and nice and provided us with all the instructions and tips needed. The surrounding of the hotel is OK, bars and some restaurants and it is quite during the night (also February not very touristic). The breakfast was OK, standard, yet served with some elegance, and included all whats in needed. Yet, if there are few guests having breakfast on the same time, then you need to wait a bit. We were also asked whether we need a refill of coffee, juice or any other thing. To summarize, it was nice, good, pleasant, and the review on Venere was extermly helpful.

We are a family with two kids and stayed at this hotel for a week. We were very much satisfied with the stay and the staff was very kind and friendly. There is a nice local restaurant nearby. The station is within 10-15 min walking distance, and the location of hotel is quite convenient to reach any sightseeing places easily. We will definitely come back to this hotel, when we next go to Niems.

We sed this hotel for a one night stop over on a motorcycle tour, although we arrived early staff went out of their way to let us put the bikes in a lock up garage while we went for lunch nearby. We had a 'rustic' style room while our friend had a more 'elegant' style both were great. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Good central location only slight reservation was the breakfast which was adequate and with good cafes round the corner felt we could have done better, if we'd been staying longer. Would definitely go back, recommended.

Booked for 3 nights and when we arrived the person on reception didn't have any details of our reservation. Luckily I had taken our internet confirmation so it was not a problem and swiftly sorted. Reception were really helpful and parked our car in the lock up garage. Our room was kept clean each day. Only problem -the carpet was very poor quality, worn and stained in comparison to the public areas. i think this was making the room smell a bit stale. Other rooms seemed to have better decor than ours. Excellent location for exploring Nimes. Only had breakfast for one morning - very expensive for what it entailed. We preferred to grab a coffee and croissant elswhere

From the outside, the hotel looks a little tired and down market. But the owner is the friendliest, most helpful hotelier I've ever met. And the inside of the hotel is excellent quality for the price (incredibly good value). It's not the Four Seasons, mind - but you're paying less-than-budget prices. Great location for anyone travelling by train. Parking space in the vicinity is limited, but there usually are open spaces to the North East of the hotel (at 5-10 min walking). The only disadvantage we experienced is evening noise from the city (nearby pubs and restaurants). Overall great value for money!

The Maison Carree and les Arenes are each within 15 mn walking, and the Porte Auguste (part of the Roman wall that surrounded the Roman city of Nemausus) is 50m from the front door. The SNCF railway station can be reached in 20mn walking. The staff was friendly and helpful and provided space to store our luggage while we were sightseeing after we had already checked out. I would recommend l'Acanthe du Temple without reservation.

You couldn't wish to find more helpful, welcoming and generally pleasant people than the owners and staff. The hotel is quite hard to find by car (as is everywhere in Nimes) due to the rigorous one way system and the narrowness of the roads but the situation is first class being very centrally located and perfect for arrival and departure either by car or by bus and plane. First class value.

Acanthe du Temple is an ideal location for travelers wishing to visit the old city's many wonderful sites, from Roman wonders that are in such incredible states of preservation to the medieval streets with their wonderful medieval churches, contemporary shops, and fine restaurants. It is possible to walk to these locations in the course of a day and without hurry or fuss with transportation. Parking is provided (at extra charge) by the hotel staff, and this makes it quite convenient for the traveler who would otherwise find it difficult to locate parking within this area of the city. The hotel staff is competent, friendly, and helpful. Rooms are clean, bright and open. Noise within the hotel is scant, but can be a bit louder outside at night (but not to the detriment of sleep by any means). Wireless connection is available in-room. And the prices are very reasonable for a city center.

After checking other feedback, this hotel came well recommended by other guests. We were asked on arrival if we wanted a smoking or non-smoking room. Our room was not large and a bit dark, and basic, but it was clean and comfortable & perfectly adequate for our 3 night stay. The room and the hotel could do with updating and refurbishing, but still represented good value for money.

The hotel was in a good central location with easy access to transport. The staff were really helpful and the reception that we received was 1st class. The room was cleaned daily and the only complaint around the accommodation was the noise outside where street cleaners and weekend revellers ensured that a good nights sleep was a little difficult. Will return in the spring.

We thought this hotel was great value for money. The decor in the room was a little tired looking, however it is in a good location, walking distance to all the landmarks in Nimes and they also had a free wireless network in the hotel which was not advertised.

We really loved this hotel. The room had been redone recently, was sparkling clean and well-designed, but still charming. The staff was also charming for that matter. A good-quality continental breakfast was provided. There was sometimes traffic noise from the ring road, but it was not a major concern. Very convenient to the sights and the train station as it is in the old town. We will stay here again (we hope!).

Our opinion about quietness (6) refers to the very morning noises from the street (cleaning cars as early as 5.30 a.m.!). Generally, we were glad that the hotel was within old district of the town and very close to the sights. However, we expected the room in the hotel to be more spacious.

Old facilities. Room small, but well placed in the center of the town. We can recommed it for short stays (couple with 2 children) due to room sizes. In the oder side, reception guy was very friendly and he helped us with all doubts.

Wonderful hospitality, extremely friendly and helpful staff! Really welcoming, helpful and supportive. I can definetly recommend a stay here - amazing price/service/quality ratio. Nicely decorated rooms, rather romantic, good central location, parking available (!!!), tasty and wholesome breakfast - all a heart desires. Thank you for making my stay so special!

A lovely hotel in the historic centre of Nimes, surrounded by bars, shops and restaurants. A short walk (5 min)to the Arena, Maison Carree, station and airport shuttle bus stop. We had a really nice room with a balcony, very clean, nicely decorated, our only complaint would be the shower, which was terrible! It was a little noisy at night with the balcony doors open (mainly though from the numerous church bells which rang every 15 min from about 6am!) but there was a large fan in the room which kept it cool. The owner was very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. They are happy to look after bags after you check out etc. Most of the restaurants are found around a lovely square near the Arena. Arena does an excellent tour with audio guides for about 7 euros. Overall the hotel was excellent value for money and in a great location.

Excellent position... loved Nimes... staff spoke excellent english... though hotel was hard to find in a car due to the narrow one way streets or Nimes.

The owners went way out of their way to introduce me to people for my research and even saved a newspaper article for me. They were extremely helpful. This is also the best quality for the price that we've had on our entire trip.

Eric could not have been more welcoming or helpful. Surprised to recieve an email from him prior to arrival asking whehter we wanted smoking or non-smoking. The Hotel had many delightful antique furnishings and the attention to detail flowed through to matching towels sets. In spite of the wet weather we struck, Eric made sure our short stay was memorable for all the right reasons and we would stay there again our next visit to Nimes. Our first visit to Nimes - hopefully not our last. Hotel Acanthe du Temple exceeded our expectations brilliantly.

Nicely sized room but the shower set-up left a little to be desired. No shower curtain and an incredibely high lip would be almost unmanageable for someone with limited mobility. We did not take the hote loffer for a 7€ breakfast and instead used a small space in their fridge to store some of our own yogurt to further increase the affordability of the room. Great location, really nice staff, cute town to visit. Would strongly recommend!

A family-run hotel offering really good value for money. We received a very hearty welcome from Eric and his wife (sorry for having forgotten her name). Each room is individually decorated and different (at least the two rooms we had) Stayed four nights, Excellent location in central old Nimes with walking distance to the arena and plenty af nice restaurants. Breakfast is French, but with cheese and youghurt offered. The friendly atmosphere really makes you feel like home.

A very pleasant 2 star hotel well located with helpful english speaking staff. We chose a quiet room with a view on the top (fourth) floor. No lift so don't do this if you have trouble with stairs.

We booked this hotel for our first visit to Nimes based on the other good reviews. It is in an excellent location, and offered tremendous value at the 50 euros per night we paid. When we arrived, the chap on reception spoke excellent English and explained in great detail the main tourist sites, and gave us a map. The room was comfortable, clean, and quiet, though the decoration was a little old-fashioned. There is an Irish bar literally just round the corner, and another British style pub "Au Bureau" across the road. Just down the road were a Mexican restaurant and a Pizzeria. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, as at 7.50 euros (I think), it seemed a bit pricey. We found a bakery nearby where you could get coffee & croissants for 2.50 euro. The amphitheatre is excellent, and although it is smaller than the rome colisseum, I found the visitor experience actually better, with more time to look around on your own, and more access available. One tip - pretty much everything closes on a Sunday. Recommend a walk up to the tower in the park, followed by lunch "al fresco" at the restaurant in the park. With cheap flights by Ryanair, Nimes offers a good, less obvious, weekend break destination, and the Acanthe du Temple is an excellent place to stay while visiting.
